Yay for more Renard. To me he's the most interesting character on the show.

ReplyDeleteI love Renard but I don't see how in this little sentence we'll see more of him than usual. Him dealing with family issues is pretty much the story of every single episode for him since episode 2 or so this season. Hoping we'll get more than 2 phone calls in his ally in Europe this time

ReplyDeleteHis French is very good (French canadian myself), very easy to understand every single word, very fluent too. Is it possible that french isn't your first language and he's speaking too fast or something for you to understand without the subtitle in english?

ReplyDeleteI speak some French too and I think Sasha Roiz his French is just great, I could never speak French like that... Altough his French and German kinda sound the same to me, probably because of the (French?) accent of his.
ReplyDeleteDidn't even noticed. Are you from Europe? I know I've heard it couple of time the Tu and Vous used for the same person in real life. Maybe it's just the difference of the way of using the language between North America and Europe.
ReplyDeleteI am from France and while I don't know if there is a difference between France French and Canadian French technically Renard and his spy are supposed to speak French from France since all the Royal families are from Europe.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing that really made me laugh was them calling Nick "Jacques Chirac" because that was the name of our president before Sarkozy. It's a bit like calling an American character George Bush.
Also I'm an English teacher which is why I thought of Google translate because that is how my students sound when they make their homework using it.
Yeah that makes sense given the writers presumably don't speak French.
ReplyDeleteThere's always small difference between same language and different part of the world like US english v.s english in GB v.s English in Australia. Some different expressions, little different in a way to say some stuff, turn some sentences around. It's still small and it won't stop from understanding or being understand, but there's always a couple of them. When i'm watching TV serie that were translated in France, I always caught some sentences here and there that caught my hear and make me say them twice in my head. It's a cultural thing I guess. Like, when you're talking very casual in Quebec, some people use 2 time ''tu'' back to back, like ''Tu viens tu?'' for exemple.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that people who write those sentences are probably French Canadian (since they're in Canada and Sasha was born and raised in Quebec). I don't understand why you're making such a big deal about it. I'm happy they're making an effort to actually speak other language and not just speak english all the time (''Cause the whole world/univers only speak English'' in TV logic). Not sure why you're being angry they didn't search for a real person from France and every other country their characters has contacts in
If they didn't know any French (and were using some basic translator) it wouldn't make any sense. It just sound more like Canada French than France French

I'm not taking offense, don't worry ;) Just stating there's differences and just trying to understand why you're thinking it's ''bad french'' just because it's not your french. I'm way too used to seeing the comments on forum and youtube and so many place about how ''France's french is the only real French'' it's doesn't do anything to me anymore. I was just wondering if maybe that's was your POV's too
