Grey's Anatomy - 10x09 "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" - Sympathy for The Devil? Review & Discussion

Often times I find that when a series opts to a focus an entire episode on one character it’s either an epic failure or a resounding success - last nights Grey’s Anatomy, which featured Dr Callie Torres in every scene, was thankfully a triumph. Easily my favorite episode so far this season, “Sorry Seems To be The Hardest Word” definitely benefited from having a cohesive and emotional story to follow, because much of this year up until now has been dampened by too many characters and not enough focus on any single storyline. Episodes lately have felt all over the place with stories picking up and being dropped and scenes jumping from A story, to B story, to C story, to D story (and sometimes so on…) without any real connective line. Last night had none of that. Expertly written by Grey’s veteran Stacy McKee, the episode saw Callie hit with an unexpected malpractice suit and used flashbacks to shed light on a series of major events in her marriage to Arizona that viewers were not made privy to last season. That’s where I’m a little split...

If you’ve seen the episode you know now that sometime after the couple regained their footing after the amputation (no pun intended there) Arizona decided that she wanted to have a baby with Callie. Not only that, but she wanted the chance to carry the child herself. It’s a huge step for Arizona, who at one point lost Callie due to her unwillingness to start a family. She had already accepted Sophia as her own daughter, but choosing to carry a child is a whole different experience and undertaking. Oddly enough that part didn’t feel forced to me - if we had seen this story play out over time last season I really would have dug it. I believe that Arizona truly wanted to get back to her old self and to be happy again with Callie. I’ll definitely argue that she should have been in therapy, but we saw her stubbornness over such things last season and it rings true to me that she would want to start fresh and create a new life with her partner. Still, nearly every scene in the flashbacks caught me off guard a bit - first that decision to have a baby at all. I really didn’t think that was where they were going to go with this story. Second, the fantastic (but brief) scene where Arizona discovers she's pregnant. We’ve seen some bubbly and funny Arizona in season 10 but not with Callie, so that was great. The scenes were even more powerful and upsetting contrasted with the current reality of Callie waiting for Arizona to drop Sophia off as they trade between visitation. Soon, though, the past was catching up with the present - we saw Arizona come to Callie after her first ultrasound (one which Callie missed due to surgery) where she discovered that she had lost the baby. Another flashback to presumably not long before Dr Boswell showed up revealed that after the loss Arizona was unwilling to try again. Clearly it brought up hurt and the tragic sense of loss from the amputation which was exactly what Arizona had been trying to get past (one might argue she was initially trying to conceive for the wrong reasons anyway, but it’s mostly a plot device so I won’t even go there).

Dr Torres apologizes to her patient after complications lead to a double-amputation

Anyway, as much as I enjoyed the scenes and the episode as a whole, if the writers were hoping in some way that they’d make us more likely to get past what Arizona did, it ain’t gonna happen. Callie has been one of my favorite characters since she joined the show in season 2 and while I salute that Shonda and the writers refuse to restrict their gay couples to being happy all the time, I wouldn’t want Callie in this situation with a partner of any gender. Maybe if we’d seen Arizona try to make some sort of growth after the split I’d be more inclined to be excited about a reunion, but while Callie was struggling to keep it together Arizona was hopping in bed with an intern and still wearing her wedding ring like it was nothing. Has she gone to therapy at all? If McDreamy cheated on Meredith after the crash (or shooting, even) I really doubt that the audience would be rooting for her to forgive him. Arizona still has not displayed any acknowledgment of being sorry for what she did to Callie, and now knowing that they lost a child just prior, doesn’t the “You didn’t lose anything!” line from the season 9 finale just seem even more insulting and ridiculous?

Did I go on a bit of a rant there, people? Sorry about that… aside from my conflict over the retconning of the whole Callie / Arizona post-amputation saga, I thought the episode as a whole was fantastic. Sara Ramiez never disappoints in my eyes and given the right material she’s downright incredible. She can pull off gut-busting funny or heartbreakingly broken (the “I’m pathetic” exchange with Hector Alonzo was particularly rattling). As we watched Callie stand trial accused of botching the surgery of an Olympic gold-medalist snowboarder, I was genuinely concerned for much of the episode that she’d be found guilty. McKee did a phenomenal job of writing an episode based mostly around a court case and still keeping an authentically Grey’s feeling intact, complete with humor and emotional punch. It was great seeing the doctors of Grey + Sloane rally around Torres - she’s certainly been there for many of them time and time again. When the not-guilty verdict was read I breathed a sigh of relief, but the twists kept coming right up until the end. While he had stuck around to support his daughter through her trial, Callie’s dad revealed a secret to her after discovering that she had ended her marriage with Arizona due to infidelity. He told his daughter that he had once made a mistake and cheated on Callie’s mom (who, by the way, still isn’t speaking to her daughter because of her ‘lifestyle’). He urges her to at least try with Arizona because she’ll never know what they have if they don’t at least test it. His indiscretion, he continued to tell her, happened before Callie was born, so had her mother not forgiven him Callie would have never been born. Food for thought? Maybe. It still doesn’t sit right with me, though, that Callie then went to Arizona’s hotel room door and invited her to consider coming back home. I am interested in seeing them take steps to work through this, and I hope Arizona really makes some progress before they do. I'm also wondering how they'll handle Callie's inevitable discovery that Arizona has been sleeping with Leah (who, you guessed it, was in Arizona’s room unbeknownst to Dr Torres when she showed up).

My worry is that next week we’ll jump right back into the now-crowded universe of Grey+Sloane and continue to only get bits and pieces of this and every other exciting story each week. If the writers sidelined the interns and beefed up the writing for Callie / Arizona, Meredith / Cristina, Alex / Jo + his father and reworked whatever the hell is supposed to be happening with Bailey a bit, I think we’d have an incredibly strong season. I don’t even really despise the interns as much as I did when they started out, but April and Jackson already feel far enough removed from our original group to me that the interns sometimes just seem like they’re part of a completely different show.

I’m hoping that in the upcoming episodes the writers are able to find a tighter focus than what we’ve seen so far this season. Last night at least renewed my interest in the possibility of Callie and Arizona and the new dimension to their story, while a bit forced, should provide some great material. Aside from that I’m excited to see how the Meredith / Cristina rift continues to unfold. Promos are sure trying to make us believe that Cristina will be looking to Dr Ross to scratch an itch, and I wouldn’t put it past the writers to try to integrate yet another intern by having him sleep with one of our established doctors, but I do think it’d be a cheap tactic. But my thoughts aside, what did you guys think of "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word"? Are you feeling sympathy for Arizona? Were you as impressed by both the writing team & top-notch acting by Sara as I still am? And what are you looking forward to most in the next 3 episodes before our winter break? 2. I loved last night's episode. Easily best of the season. Nothing excuses cheating. I do however feel that we got a glimpse of what was going on in Arizona's mind. No matter if your on Callie's or Arizona's side, it was made apparent last night that Callie was not great at being there for Arizona in yet another period of loss for her, so when Arizona told Callie she was missing the point, she really was. The decision to have a baby was definitely them trying to cover up problems with something positive and when it didn't work out, they were at a loss.

I am just so glad that it seems like finally we are on the road of Calzona working together to try and get back to each other. The Leah thing though, I really want Leah to just be able to take it for what it was and that was just sex as a distraction for Arizona but we saw how she pined last season for Alex and how she was when her and Arizona had only kissed so I'm not holding out much hope. We know Callie will find out but in honestly I don't think she has too much of a right to get too pissed off about it, she did initiate the split, she didn't want to talk to Arizona and then she told people her wife was dead, satire or not, she said it, so as far as Arizona and I as a fan was concerned this wasn't Arizona cheating, although I hated the whole thing.

I just want Callie and Arizona to take it slow now, I adore them and think they are MFEO, but they need to do it right this time and that means no rushing.

  3. A passionate vote for either side of the debate indeed just goes to show that Shonda & co. are doing their job of keeping viewers invested. I'm also hopeful that while they move forward we get to see them really working together and actually tackling what the issues are that got them to where they are. I really wanna see Arizona face her PTSD, I thought they'd kept hinting at that going into this season

  4. Being a huge Calzona shipper, I really enjoyed last nights episode. I love Callie, I love Arizona, and who doesn't love a visit from Callie's dad? Does the miscarriage justify the cheating? To me, no, but it makes Arizona's character a hell of a lot more interesting/complex and I love it.
I sometimes fear character-centric episodes as they can be a huge disappointment in terms of storyline for other characters (example: little MerDer screen time), and in a universe with a large cast like Grey's I find a "A-story, B-story, C-story, D-story" more satisfying as we get character development out of more characters out of a common theme (even if it is just a mug). On the flip side, 42 minutes dedicated to Callie/Arizona character development isn't anything to scold at given what has happened to them and what had to happen in order for them to get to the place where they are now in a way the audience understands.
I would still love an Arizona-Centric episode. We had a peds/Arizona episode back in season 6 when she first became a regular but it's been almost four seasons and now a mom, married, and an amputee. Would love to have some Arizona-inner dialogue to REALLY understand her. Maybe a visit from her dad Con. Daniel Robbins who raised her to be a "good man in a storm"?

  5. My only problem with the typical A/B/C story format this year has been the complete lack of connection between stories. It feels like we're just randomly jumping around the whole hospital a lot of times now whereas it used to be a series with focus on a specific group of doctors' lives.

  6. I feel like last night gave a bit more of a reason for the way Arizona has been acting, and I do feel like I'm a bit less angry with her. But that last moment was a good way to remind me why I still don't want Arizona to get back together with Callie. I get that Arizona's been through so much, but so has Callie, and Arizona is just so bad for Callie right now. To be fair, Callie has also been one of my favorite characters ever since she got on the show, and to watch her get cheated on again, to watch her try to make up with her estranged wife while her estranged wife's lover is on the other side of the door wrapped in a sheet, to see that lover then dismissed like she's nothing and to know that's who Callie would be with, someone who can treat people like that ... I can't get behind that relationship anymore. I'm sorry for all the bad things that happened to Arizona, but that is just not who I want Callie with. There's no way this doesn't end with lots more hurt for Callie, and if I've got to choose who gets hurt, it's the person who didn't do any cheating. Let alone lots of cheating. Just saying.

    Thanks for a great review!

  7. Agree with you,why Arizona was so cold with Leah?????where is that Arizona said to April:"sex with Leah was awesone" i don't want Callie bring back Arizona, for me she became in a evil character, cheating is unforgivable and they have a lot thing that they have not overcome, sorry my english is not my first language

  8. Until there's a divorce or stated intent to get a divorce, or at least some sort of official separation, it's cheating in my book. And if she keeps it from Callie when they're trying to fix their relationship (which, given Leah's hiding behind the door antics, seems very possible), then cheating or not, she still would have all the right in the world to get upset, especially when their time apart was initiated because of Arizona sleeping with someone else, something she kept doing after she and Callie had their fight. And the way Arizona was able to just dismiss Leah like that, like she was nothing, was just cold.

I'm not denying that the problems in the relationship were on both Callie and Arizona in some part, but there is never an excuse for cheating (and for argument's sake, we'll just call the first time cheating). You talk to your spouse, go to counseling, ask for a separation or even a divorce, and after everything Arizona went through, I would have been fine with her going for any of these options. But the cheating, then more sleeping around, then lying, and the way she dispassionately cut Leah loose, and the simple fact she won't take any real responsibility for any of it, just no. Sorry. I'm not saying that I'm never going to be on Arizona's side again. I'm saying that I think this is a relationship I don't want either one of them to be in anymore, because it's hurting Callie and bringing out bad sides of Arizona, and I'm not exactly having fun watching it these days. Just my opinion, but I'm pretty much done with these two as a couple.

  9. Evil? Really? She is far from evil and Callie is not perfect. Callie pushed Arizona to get better when she shouldn't have and she dismissed how she felt about losing her leg, about her prosthesis and now we find out about Callie pushing her away again after losing a child? Sorry, Callie isn't the victim. She made Arizona's losses all about Callie and it is easy to see that maybe Arizona felt dismissed or unimportant to the one who is supposed to be there for her. Arizona was there time after time for Callie and Callie can't be there to emotionally support her through one of the most devastating times of their life as a couple? Take off the Callie blinders people!

Arizona is cheating with Leah as much as Callie was cheating with Mark when Arizona went to Africa. Callie wants her to come "home" after she called it "her apartment?" Callie publicly humiliated Arizona several times because she was so angry. If I were Arizona, I would have second, third and fourth thoughts about going back to Callie's apartment. That place is not a level playing field.

Arizona has been shut down emotionally all season and now we know why. I think they both still love each other and when Arizona realized that she can rebuild her relationship with her wife, out went Leah...which was the right decision. I think the Arizona hate is short sided, especially now that there were missing pieces finally put back in the puzzle. Neither of them are saints, they both tend to bail when the going gets tough, whether it is emotionally (Callie) or physically (Arizona), and I hope they learn to communicate finally.

By the way, this entire show was built on infidelity and yet Arizona gets castigated? Why? Even Callie has cheated. She was still married to George when she slept with Mark and she was dating Erica when she, again, slept with Mark. She isn't a saint.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I agree that Callie is imperfect, everyone on this show is and I love that they're portrayed that way. I hope I didn't come off in my review in indicating that Callie was fully without blame, but my biggest problem with the relationship is Arizona just has not dealt with any of her issues. She wanted the baby to make things magically better and when they didn't she just shut Callie out again and then slept with someone else. I just hope the writers do justice to both of them owning up to their mistakes- here, at least, we saw Callie acknowledging her tendency to let things build up and then explode or act out. I really enjoyed that first scene where she was buying pantyhose & we saw quick flashbacks to moments where she'd lost her cool with Arizona.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I have to mention though, totally disagree with Arizona / Leah being the same as Mark / Callie when AZ went to Africa. They're married now, with a child, and broken up because of infidelity. Arizona tried to fix it and when Callie said she needed time, she jumped into bed with Leah. The Africa situation was totally different, Arizona left Callie at the airport with no hope of her coming back for, what, 3 years? They had been a couple for just over a year at that point, far, FAR off from Arizona cheating on Callie after a child, marriage, and everything they went through before & after.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think Arizona went through more on her own than any person could take in less than a year. She not only lost her leg but also her best friend. Than when she finally got happy again she miscarriages. The big problem is Arizona never really got into therapy for all this. Something that she should have.

This episode we also saw Callie as being not such a good wife to Arizona. When Arizona miscarriaged she needed to talk. She wanted to tell Arizona how she felt but Callie disregarded it. Her lack of empathy for Arizona in that situation really bothered me. I thought it was very insensitive to say: we'll just try again. I get that she's a surgeon and should be focused on her work but at that moment her wife needed her more than anything and she should have known that. I don't excuse the cheating with this but I do think that it puts things in perspectiv, because the lack of empathy Callie sometimes has for Arizona's needs/Feelings is something I have alsways find bothersome in their relationship.

Now I don't want them to get back together right away. I want them to learn to communicate first and take it slow. Callie should realize her shortcomings in the marriage and Arizona hers. Because I think it's the only way to fix what's broken, honest communication and some therapy for Arizona on her own first and than Calzona later on.

I do want them to get back together at some point because this episode restored my believe that they could make each other happy if they work on their shortcomings. Some of the pregnancy flashbacks were really cute and reminded me of why I like them so much.

Though my favourite scene is the butterfly rhinestone scene. Even though Callie/Arizona at this point are not ok Arizona could still calm Callie down and make her laugh in a bad situation. :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think you are missing the scene where she tried to open up to Callie about show she was feeling after the miscarriage and was shut down, again. Callie shut her down continuously when she tried to express her feelings. Callie would say "it's all about the leg" and shut her down. How many times do you get shut down when you're trying to express yourself, especially when you hate doing so (like Arizona) and finally give up?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I have to disagree. Callie told people her wife was dead and then kicked her out of "her apartment" and she even said she wasn't ready to date. In Callie's mind, subsequently in Arizona's, their relationship was over. They had already settled on a schedule for their daughter and were leading separate lives.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Like I said, I think Callie is also to blame for their problems. Still, Arizona put Callie through absolute hell after the amputation for a decision to SAVE Arizona's life. That in itself always upset me. I understand Arizona lost a lot, but SHE totally disregarded everything Callie lost literally by telling her that she lost nothing. Callie lost Mark, their unborn child, and eventually her wife. The bottom line for me is that Arizona needs to address her issues before they can ever work anything out. I don't like the way she's been written lately and it just doesn't lead me to wanting to see them together.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Fair enough. I do see where you're coming from. As I said to another reader, all the opposing views on this issue just goes to show that Shonda is doing her job in still keeping people invested.

    ReplyDelete
  17. hmm I think that part of the problem is Arizona is the one that lost her leg. Something she has to deal with everyday. She is reminded of the trauma she went through everyday. Yeah she put Callie through hell but I think it's not fair to blame that on Arizona. What Arizona went through is horrible and people after this kind of trauma's react and sometimes they act out and get depressed. Arizona as a surgeon probably knew that Callie had to cut of her leg to save her life . Just like we as viewers now that , but Arizona probably didn't look at it that way at that point. She looked at it as the person who lost her leg and she needed to blame someone for it. It's a natural reaction.

Do agree Arizona needs to adress her issues. She needs therapy. But Callie needs to recognize to that she has not been perfect. And that starts I think with realizing she needed to empathize better with Arizona's feelings.

  18. You're right! TOO MANY CHARACTERS. I don't find the interns charming, mainly because they are not very interesting and likable bunch; it was bound to happen- since all the other attractive character prototypes are taken- the sassy one, the sarcastic one, the gentlemen, the bad boy...(Not that I'm claiming the pre-existing characters on Grey's are cliche, but I mean the quota for a popular character category are already filled up; hell, nowadays April's snagged the 'adorkable' category!). That said, another reason I don't care for the interns is that they take away other characters' screen time and even those times, divided into bits and parts, end up not being enough to truly win us over!!
So yeah, I realised after I read your review, that aside from 'legal dramas'being my favourite genre, this episode had more focus on a few characters. THAT's why I had liked it so much.
For me, Grey's has never been a fully packed plot, story centred, fast-spinning show like Law & Order. In the end, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CHARACTERS. Viewers might not care if ADA Connie and Mike Cutter became a couple or not; as long as Dick wolf delivered each week despicable criminals and justice on them. In Grey's, I think finally upon reading your review, that most viewers are complaining this season because they don't see more of their favourite characters' life, love interest, emotional ups & downs, and personal growth- the whole journey of character development.
    So great review!!

  19. My worry is that we'll lose a few of these characters at the end of the season too, so now more than ever I'd like some actual attention paid to all of the originals stories. Sara Ramirez's contract also expires, she says as long as negotiations go well she'll return & I think that ABC knows she's an asset and I think they'd like to maintain as many originals as possible. I also think that Ellen and Patrick will return, because if their answer was a flat-out no I think we'd have gotten an announcement already like Sandra Oh's. Hopefully ABC continues to treat them well, and if we need to cut excess this season it should be the characters that least gel with the full cast, and clearly that is the interns... I don't mind Jo though, her and Alex at least are getting a decent storyline. They'll just always feel like an added-on after-thought to me even if I laugh at some of their scenes or don't mind some of the stuff the storylines they're shoved into.

  20. The next episode you are going to love the evil Arizona she gonna reject the offer from callie and back to Leah, maybe you haven't realized that Arizona not love more to callie, when they had several breaking up before the cheating Nazizona sorry Arizona, persecuted to Callie for get forgiveness and her not involved with another woman, now her fuck with Leah 2 minutes after break up and not asking for forgiveness, maybe Arizona love Callie because she is the sofia's mom and shared her life for several years, whatever for me this is the end of game and i'm not shipped anymore with ths couple,I hope Callie will be happy with woman, man or chimera.. Again sorry for my english

  21. Excellent review. If I can quote you, "episodes lately have felt all over the place," bravo for saying that. So many times I have wondered, where the heck did that storyline come from since episode one of this season. IMO, episode 9, so far has been the only episode that has had my complete attention. SaRa truly is one amazing actress. Fans witnessed an actress who showed several aspects of her acting skill; she was comical, she was serious, she laughed she cried, she delivered lines with such emotions that one felt the pain and or sorrow when she spoked. However, as a devout fan of the show, I do not buy into the "miscarriage" storyline. Where the heck did that "conception" come from? Saying that, the one negative thing about episode 9 that absolutely had me screaming with anger was when Callie went to Arizona's hotel room to ask her to think about coming home. This couple is in no way ready for a reconciliation. And even though Callie told her dad that Arizona apologized, as a fan, I want to see and hear that apology. And it really, really stinks to the high heavens that Arizona, after Callie's victory in court, had Leah in her room.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "Even Callie has cheated. She was still married to George when she slept with Mark." I do believe Callie and George were just starting to date when she and Mark slept together, they were not married. You also stated: "Arizona is cheating with Leah as much as Callie was cheating with Mark when Arizona went o Africa.". In the airport, when Arizona and Callie were shouting at each other, Callie said something like, if you get on that airplane and go to Africa for three years without me we are through. And Arizona responded by saying something like we are standing in the middle of an airport screaming at each other, we are already over. Paraphrasing here. Then Arizona went on to say, you stay here and be happy and I will go to Africa and be happy, paraphrasing again. So to me, Arizona and Callie as a couple after that scene cease to exist. Callie was a single woman as was Arizona, free to be with anyone. As much as I love the couple together, Calzona, I feel like Callie and Arizona are not ready to be a couple together again. The writers and Shonda are really killing what was once a beautiful concept, a lesbian couple on Primetime television.

    ReplyDelete
  23. "Shonda is doing her job in still keeping people invested." Shonda under estimate the fans logic and thinking AND INTELLIGENCE.

    ReplyDelete
  24. "to watch her (Callie) get cheated on again" just breaks my heart especially after she told Arizona that she was 100% sure that if she let Arizona back in her life that she would only end up hurting her again, back when Arizona returned from Africa. I was elated when they worked things out and reunited but now, I am not sure how I would/will feel IF Calzon get back together. Of course Arizona had no idea that Callie was going to knock on her hotel door, and based upon how Callie was acting like she did not know where the room was, it was tacky just tacky to have Leah in the room. For goodness sake, your estranged wife just won an important case and you celebrate by having your "lover, sex partner" in your room . Where is the moral support?
You said: "I can't get behind that relationship anymore". I understand how you can say that. I think in trying to create some sort of friction between the happy couple someone has seriously stepped in some crap and is now trying to hang on to fans by coming up with some crappy storylines.

    ReplyDelete
  25. That's my point exactly: "until there's a divorce or stated intent to get a divorce or at least some sort of official separation, it's cheating.". Amen, amen, amen.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You need to go back to the episode when Callie introduced Arizona to her dad. Callie admitted to him that she had slept with Mark while still married to George and that's why Papa Torres slammed Mark up against the wall.

I don't want Arizona to go right home. I want her to recognize they need help, otherwise it is going to be the same routine, rinse and repeat. They need to learn to communicate and stop running from their problems. Arizona runs physically and Callie does emotionally.

Why do you assume that Arizona wasn't hurt and only Callie is the victim? Arizona compromised on almost everything to be with Callie. She stood by her side through so much, but Callie couldn't do that for her when she miscarried their baby?!? Callie has been cruel in her own way with her emotional detachment. I just don't get why everyone wants to blame it only on Arizona. Yes, she cheated, but they both drove down the path that lead to it.

As for Leah, Callie said her wife was dead and then tossed her out of her home, claiming it was "her apartment." She took something that should have been private between them and kept humiliating her wife publicly. No, sorry, Callie needs to bare her fare share of the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I often think of that line from after the Africa fiasco too. 'If I let you back in, you'll hurt me again'... indeed, Callie.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think the problem is that this 'miscarriage' came out of nowhere and seemed like nothing more than a way for Arizona fans to say, 'see what she was going through!'. Callie's reaction in that scene didn't strike me as unsympathetic but she lost something there, too. Arizona shouldn't have gone through with getting inseminated because I don't think she was anywhere near emotionally ready.

    ReplyDelete
  29. at times, I totally agree with you

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL damn Calzona fans are vocal - thank you guys so much for all the comments!

    ReplyDelete
  31. True dat, thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The cheating storyline came out of nowhere too. Calzona was getting along and then bam, she cheats? There had to be a reason behind the cheating because had everything been like it was, there is no way Arizona would have cheated on Callie. I don't care how much people don't like her, she just wouldn't.

Callie lost her child too, but try and put yourself into Arizona's shoes. Callie forgot about the ultrasound, which is ordinarily no big deal, but Arizona is lying there waiting to hear her baby's heartbeat only to learn she miscarried their child. She was alone when she heard that, can you imagine how devastating that would be? So, yeah Callie lost the child too, but she handled it very poorly. Y'all act like, oh poor Callie, but Arizona is the one who lost the child and her body was a hormonal mess. SMH.

Callie was dumped on a lot by an angry hurting Arizona when she lost her leg, but they were getting better. However, Callie wasn't perfect. She was complaining about not having sex five months after her wife almost died twice and lost her leg? Really? Callie shoved her into a shower when she fell and had an accident. Had a guy done either of those things, people would tell Arizona to get the hell out of that relationship.

I don't get why Callie is a saint when she has made mistakes in the relationship too. Arizona put up with a lot of crap with Callie, especially over Mark. I love Callie, but there is NO WAY she gets a free pass.

  33. Your time line is incorrect Duncan. They were broke up for about 2 months before Leah and Arizona hooked up. It was after Callie went around telling people Arizona was dead and after she kicked Arizona out of "her" apartment. They were calling each other exes, so no, it wasn't cheating.

  34. In the episode where Callie was going to fight Merr because Callie thought that Merr had told George she slept with Mark aka McSteamy, Callie says something like-George thinks I betrayed him, we were broken up, I would never betray him. So when Callie told Papa Torres about sleeping with Mark, I assumed she and George were no longer together. Would have to see prior episodes again for clarity.
Callie is no saint. As much as I loved Mark, I was sick of the two of them and their sexual behavior. The only time I can recall Callie being a cheater is when she and Erica were trying to figure things out and she turned to Mark to "see if there was a difference" between being with a man versus a woman.
The awful cruel things Arizona told Callie in that epic scene of season 9 combined with how god ugly horrible Arizona acted towards Callie when she, Az, was in that wheel chair makes me want to reach through my television screen and choke the living crap out of her each time they show Az and Leah together.
Az needs therapy. Callie needs therapy. Then once each one has gone to sessions, then they go as a couple. IMHO. This past episode, 9, was not the time for Callie to be asking Az to think about "coming home." And yes, Callie needs to stop kicking Az out enough with that madness.

  35. Callie only told the rich folks at the fund raising that her spouse died, I thought so she could get their sympathy and get big bucks. Was it right? Maybe not. But was it right for Arizona to meet a total stranger and immediately sleep with her? No!! Heck no it was not right.
There's no doubt that Az has been hurt by Callie, I clearly understand that. But is it right for Az to continue a relationship, or whatever it is, with Leah instead of getting some kind of mental help? IMO, no it is not. I can beat this subject to death I suppose but in the end, only the writers know where its headed.
Yes Az has been there for Callie in so many different ways but here is where we disagree, so has Callie for Az. Callie was willing to leave the country so that they could be together.
Now this relationship or sex thing Az has with Leah, I don't understand. When Callie first asked Az out on a date Az said no because Callie was not experienced enough. So is Leah suppose to be experienced?
