In the biggest news about the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special since David Tennant's appearance was announced last spring, actor Tom Baker revealed in a recent interview that he would be in this Saturday's 75-minute special.
"I am in the special," said Baker. "I'm not supposed to tell you that, but I tell you that very willingly and specifically; the BBC told me not to tell anybody but I'm telling you straightaway."
Baker's confirmation also prompts the question of whether other former living Doctors Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann or Eccleston might also make appearances. This has been roundly denied by the BBC previously. However, McGann, who played the Eighth Doctor, did appear in the Doctor Who minisode "Night of the Doctor," which debuted online last week.
As far as how the Baker will figure into the story, the actor didn't say but did call the circumstances of his character's appearance in the special "extraordinary."
"It worked out very well, I think, judging by the reactions of the technicians," he added.

If its for real and not just old footage like we have seen in recent Who episodes of the old Doctors then it will be amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat's great news!
ReplyDeleteI can only hope the rest of the Doctors will be back as well. :)
Don't know how I feel about this. If he was told not to tell by the BBC and sochose to leak it it might make them decide against anything similar in future, or at least including him again.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet my pinkies that it is a voice over using lookalikes perfected with CGI or something like that. As much as they look pretty much the same, they are friggin old. In the Buckingham reception you could clearly see that...
ReplyDeleteThe best news this Century. It wouldnt be a 50th without the 4th Doctor on hand.
ReplyDeleteSighs yeah makes me sad they look so old but your idea seems like the most logical.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! For us, fans, I mean, because it seems weird that he would reveal sth this big, when they directly told him not to.
ReplyDeleteUnless that part was just made up, and he was /supposed/ to leak this to build up even more anticipation and speculation! Wouldn't put it past him, OR that sneaky Mr. Moffat... ("Rule 1: the Doctor(s) lie"?)
ReplyDeleteI'm just massively excited, though, either way!
I think it was meant to be revealed today... but then again, Tom Baker does whatever Tom Baker wants, and the BBC knows it.
