THE CW ANNOUNCES FULL SEASON ORDERS FOR ALL THREE FRESHMEN SERIES: “THE ORIGINALS,” “THE TOMORROW PEOPLE” AND “REIGN”
November 11, 2013 (Burbank, CA) – The CW has ordered full season pickups for all three of its freshmen series, THE ORIGINALS, THE TOMORROW PEOPLE and REIGN, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.
“In just a few seasons, we have built a much stronger primetime schedule. Our on-air ratings are up year to year, and our digital viewing continues to grow exponentially,” said Pedowitz. “We're excited about the creative momentum the producers have established for all three of our new series, and now our fans will have the chance to see the full stories unfold for them this season. With the additional episodes ordered, plus two new dramas and new reality for midseason, we’ll be able to continue our commitment to adding more original programming all year long.”
Season to date on-air, The CW is up 9% year to year in total viewers, up 10% among adults 18-49, and is flat year to year in both adults and women 18-34. With DVR usage and digital viewing continuing to rise, 31% of The CW’s total broadcast audience now comes from time-shifted viewing after the original airdate. 40% of The CW's total overall audience for its season premieres this fall came from digital viewing. The CW's digital streaming of full episodes is up 50% season to date versus last season, and the three new series picked up today see 84% more digital viewing than The CW's new series last fall.

FINALLY for The Originals! And yay for The Tomorrow People!
ReplyDeleteSo glad for all the shows. I really hope this isn't bad news of the 100.
ReplyDeleteYES YES YES YES for them all, i have been waiting for this !!! So i guess from January CW will have 10 shows :D
ReplyDeleteYay for TTP.
ReplyDeleteOh god, I hope not. I also really want that one to succeed.
ReplyDeleteLove all three shows, great news.
ReplyDeleteyeah Reign!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou should check it out, biggest positive surprise of the season for me
ReplyDeleteYay for The Tomorrow People! SO happy about this!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to say that I am not so glad about Reign getting a full season order. I would have really wanted The 100 to get the post TVD-slot. Let's hope it will find another good slot and succeed anyway.
It will be interesting to see where they give new shows, but i guess that Hod+BATB will air on Fridays, and they could split The Originals and Supernatural and air Supernatural + 1 new show on Monday and TO + the other new show on Tuesday. Because they both have ratings around 1.0 and i think it wont hurt them if they separate them. Will watch both new shows, but i hope that The 100 will be more successful, it looks much better
ReplyDeleteFINALLY! I've been waiting for this news since all of the pilots! Honestly love all three of these shows.
ReplyDeleteDon't know where they're going to put the other two pilot shows this winter...
i doubt they will put supernatural on monday at 9 against the following.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, Batb like I suspected was going to Fridays mid season and HoD might too because of syndication.
ReplyDeleteGood good. TTP is one of my four shows that I watch as the most important, so this is good. Not at all interested in the other two, but heard good things (which is surprising considering what I originally thought Reign might be like), so good for them.
ReplyDeleteYaaaay! I am sooo hooked by The Originals :)
ReplyDeleteI watched Reign today and I love it, didn't expect that :D So happy for all 3 shows right now :)
Thank god! Especially Reign! Don't know what I would do if it canceled!!
ReplyDeleteYay TTP and The Originals!
ReplyDeleteAlso congrats to Reign. I don't watch the show, but I've heard some good things about it :)
At least 1 of them might replace Batb unless these shows will switch time slots next season.
ReplyDeleteAwesome News TO & TTP
ReplyDeleteWell...I'm surprised to say the least
ReplyDeleteNo surprise, obviously, but I'm glad we have at least one full season of TTP to enjoy. What happens after that depends on so many things that it's best not to ponder it right now, but sit back and enjoy the show.
ReplyDeleteI love to hear how well these shows are doing!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's bad news for The 100. If the CW have faith in this show, they will do what they can to give it a chance, which would probably mean moving either Reign or TTP elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteThey usually make minimal changes during the season. Heck, last season they preferred to give Cult the most incompatible lead-in imaginable (Hart of Dixie) than to shuffle the schedule around a bit and find it an appropriate slot. So I think Tuesdays and Wednesdays won't change, unless TTP crashes and burns completely.
ReplyDeleteAs for the other nights: BatB will almost certainly go to Friday. The question is, which other show will? The 100 and Star-Crossed obviously won't, as they're new, and the network isn't going to ship Reign there unless it collapses. So I think the possible scenarios are:
- Reign crashes and moves to Friday with BatB; T100 premiers after TVD and S-C after HoD
- HoD moves to Friday with BatB; the two new shows premiere together on Monday, and Reign stays put
- HoD moves to Friday with BatB; T100 premieres after TVD and Reign moves to Monday as a launching pad for S-C (or the other way around, but this seems more likely to me).
I can't see them splitting The Originals and SPN. The Originals is a spin-off but it's still a new show, and I can't see them doing anything that could hurt it.
ReplyDeleteWhat I can see them do is moving the show that does the worst out of Reign\TTP by that time to Monday or Friday and giving that slot to The 100. As for Star-Crossed, I think it'll most likely premiere on Monday.
Option no. 2 doesn't seem likely to me. I can't see the CW premiering two new shows on Monday. I think they will be more willing to make changes this year than last year because they're doing better this year and are probably more confident, but I guess we'll find out..
ReplyDeleteGood for them. Very well deserved I think.
ReplyDeleteHell yeah for The Tomorrow People! I love the show and I find it to be the perfect companion for Arrow! I always watch one right after the other, they just fit together very well, I love it! I am also super happy about the originals but that was more of a sure thing, so it's just less exciting because of that! The only problem I have with these news is that I have been looking forward for The 100 for months and I don't know what will become of it now. Will the CW really send both Hart of Dixie and The 100 to Fridays come midseason? I would be surprised.
ReplyDeleteEven reign? Have the cw learned nothing from batb
ReplyDeleteI do agree that #2 is the least likely. If TTP and Reign both hold up decently (as in: not doing badly enough to give up on and send to Friday), The CW might encounter what they call a "good problem", wherein they have more well or at least okay-performing shows than Mon-Thur slots, and have to decide which to send to Friday. I think they'd rather not move HoD to Friday just yet, but it's probably going to be necessary if TTP and Reign keep their heads above water. They sure won't premiere either of the midseason shows on Friday.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
ReplyDeleteI think that BATB being sent to friday is sure thing + I can see them pairing it with HOD, or TTP or Reign. But i hope that both TTP and Reign will keep 0.5-0.6 ratings so they wont be sent to Friday. + HoD should be renewed anyway as syndication is big factor so i would probably want hoD on Fridays
ReplyDeleteNeither TTP or Reign are doing better than the other, if they had to cancell one of both they couldn't have justified why the other still stands. I'm surprised as well tough...personally I would've cancelled both
ReplyDeleteRight now I think there are more chances they'll move Reign than TTP come spring (due to Reign maintaining less than half of TVD's 18-49 lead-in) but it's too early to tell which of them they will move. We probably won't find out until sometime in January, unless one of Reign\TTP falls lower than the other.
ReplyDeleteIf I was them I would move Reign after Hart of Dixie, Beauty and the Beast on Fridays leading in to Star-Crossed and premiering The 100 after TVD.
ReplyDeleteHmm.. Carrie, BATB and Reign are doing very poorly but it makes sense they picked up Reign for a few more episodes.. even tho I absoluely detest the show itself the CW is kind of out of options. I would have thought they might pull Carrie and/or Beauty and air the 100 & Star Crossed in January.
ReplyDeleteEven if their ratings are identical, the CW have more infiormation than we have about their cost, how many other countries purchased these shows and for what price, how many people view live along with the lead-in and how many watch it separately on another time.. and also, the numbers that we get here are rounded. One 0.6 could be 0.56 and the other could be 0.64. To the CW, such difference is probably significant.
ReplyDeleteThe bottom line is that even if we see both shows getting identical ratings, the CW still have more data on them than we could have to decide which one(s) to renew and which one(s) to cancel.
Whats Carrie?
ReplyDeleteIt would probably kill Reign. This is probably the problem for Reign, they dont have good lead for it, TVD has many viewers, but its vampire show so they dont have good show to pair Rign with
ReplyDeleteThe Carrie Diaries. It airs on Friday at 8pm.
ReplyDeleteI hope every CW show gets renewed this year (even though it wont)
ReplyDeleteThe only shows im worried about is BatB, Reign, Carrie Diaries.(not counting 100 and Star crossed)
If they keep BatB vs HoD, Hart of Dixie will be renewed over BatB since its still in good shape. (fingers crossed both get renewed love BatB)
Reign vs Carrie Diaries: probably Reign, the reason im saying probably is because its getting okay/slightly towards poor for Fridays (I dont watch reign but do watch Carrie Diaries. I hope Reign gets renewed so I can watch it)
so to round it all up: Star crossed might get cancelled cause people hype more about 100. I hope they both get renewed which isnt gonna happen. I might watch 100 though but not Star crossed unless it turns out star crossed gets good number of ratings
PS: Liked the name OXYGEN better than STAR-CROSSED
Yea i watch it. My mind totally flipped and I forgot it was on the cw :)
ReplyDeleteBecause Emily Owens, cult, and batb did so good after hart of dixie
ReplyDeleteMaybe care/ Don't care/ YES!
ReplyDeleteNow I can watch Reign in peace.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, it makes more sense to move the Monday shows to Fridays than dumping the mid season shows there.
ReplyDeleteUntil the renewal/cancellation decisions for next season. ;).
ReplyDeleteAnd under the circumstances this might be beneficial for them.
ReplyDeleteThey need room for the mid season shows.
ReplyDeleteI Hope Beauty and the Beast is on there list...... This is such a great show! #BATB!
ReplyDeleteyes :D
ReplyDeleteReign is doing better than Carrie, BATB and Hart of Dixie. Also it's doing better than Tomorrow People with W18-34.
ReplyDeleteReign is doing better with women between 18-34 so I think it stands a better chance. Still if the ratings drop it wil get canceled in May. I love the show but I'm realistic.
ReplyDeleteHoD will get renewed but maybe it won't be a full season. It will probably depend with the syndication/international deals they can get.
ReplyDeleteOption #3 actually seems the least likely to me. I doubt the CW will go through the trouble of moving TTP or Reign to Mondays. If either show is doing poorly by January, send it to Friday with BATB. The CW didn't move anything around for Cult last year, so I suspect option #1 is what happens:
ReplyDeleteMonday: Star-Crossed, Hart of Dixie (or the other way, doesn't matter)
Tuesday: The Originals, Supernatural
Wednesday: Arrow, The Tomorrow People OR The 100
Thursday: The Vampire Diaries, Reign OR The 100
Friday: The Tomorrow People OR Reign (whichever is worse), BATB
I'm hoping The 100 takes Reign's slot while Reign slides to Friday, but we'll see. It's also worth noting that Reign would probably be compatible with The Carrie Diaries on Fridays next season if both are somehow renewed
YAY for all of them! Specially for Reign that had me a little bit worried.
ReplyDeleteYay for all the shows.
ReplyDeleteYES, great news, can't wait for The Originals :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
ReplyDeleteCult was a weird pairing with Hart of Dixie, I still don't understand why they did that unless they already made up their minds it wasn't getting renewed anyways. Shame, cuz I liked the weirdness of Cult. The finale was crazy.
ReplyDeleteYay 4 The Originals! Unfortunately, I growing quickly bored of TVD, lol.
ReplyDeleteJust because the CW used to care about W18-34 ratings during Dawn's days doesn't mean Mark P does.
ReplyDeleteSWEET!!! The Originals, and The Tomorrow People have a full season!! Such good news!!!
ReplyDeleteI think this would be a good solution. I would also prefer Reign to go to Friday and The 100 to take its time slot. I could also see them moving Reign to Mondays and pairing it with Star-Crossed as these shows are somewhat compatible (both are, as far as I've understood, more or less love stories). But then again, there would be two freshman shows on Monday, which probably wouldn't be a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI miss Cult :(
ReplyDeleteI still think in a weird way Cult could have worked well with Supernatural (probably just because I loved cult and I love Supernatural lol), but I can't deny that Arrow and Supernatural made a great team last year.
ReplyDeleteI hate to be that guy, but the name star-crossed does put me off of the show.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't twitter. Your hashtags have no power here.
ReplyDeleteBeauty and the Beast is not a freshman show and it already has a 22 episode order, so they could not possibly order a full season of it, since it already has one.
ReplyDeleteIt is virtually impossible that all shows are renewed. Where would they premiere their new shows?
ReplyDeleteI also think Oxygen was much better than Star Crossed, but I felt the same with First Cut and Emily Owens M.D. last year too.
ReplyDeleteThe CW certainly is not out of options this year. They've spent the last 2 years without any options at all, but they are certainly not out of options this year. If anything, it appears that for the first time in ages they will actually have trouble fitting everything they can air in their schedule. That's a very good improvement.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it was HoD's fault but I agree that it should not be a lead-in show. It should go to 9pm regardless of what it is paired up with. Except if it goes to Fridays with Beauty and the Beast, in which case I think they are better of protecting it rather than protecting Beauty since Beauty will be cancelled and Hart will be renewed.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Well said.
ReplyDeleteEvery network cares about 18-34s. Advertisers pay more for those people than they pay for people 35-49, so all networks care about it. Whether networks bother to spin it in their PRs or not it is a different story, but all networks care about them.
ReplyDeleteOh for sure, I wasn't suggesting otherwise. But I think it's a bit too aggressive to put the two midseason shows together on Mondays like that. I would do:
ReplyDeleteMonday:
Star Crossed
Hart of Dixie
Thursday
The Vampire Diaries
The 100
Friday
Reign
Beauty and the Beast
Fingers crossed that the tomorrow people can be back next year. But I agree with you, for now I will just appreciate that we have at least one full season to enjoy. I really like the show!
ReplyDeleteIt's not that surprising.
ReplyDeleteTTP is definitely awesome, I love it. But I would recommend you to give a try to The Originals as well. It is way better than I ever thought it would be.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this. But I think it's a better idea to move Reign than The Tomorrow People. I may be a bit biased there though. But I have three points: 1) Arrow-TTP fits that "good, not great" pairing that should be left alone instead of moved around. I think even Arrow benefits from stability from its lead-out | 2) The 100 looks male skewing for the cw standards and I think Thursdays at 9 is wide open for a male skewing show ever since POI left. Grey's, Glee and Crazy Ones all skew heavily female I would imagine, so it would be good counter programming. 3) I don't see any chance of them not premiering another show after TVD next fall, so Reign would have to be moved anyway. Better do it now than next year when they are stuck with a second season already.
ReplyDeleteI only watched the first 2 episodes and didn't continue because I wasn't really into it, but I do think The CW pretty much set up that show to fail. With little promotion and the most ridiculous, ill-fitting timeslot imaginable, Cult never stood a chance. It's a shame because I think the premise could have spawned a brilliant mind-game/mystery thriller with a touch of meta.
ReplyDeleteGood summary. I would do the first scenario there, except that I would put Hart at 9 and Star Crossed at 8. And they might actually do that as well seeing as how last year they moved 90210 to 9 at midseason to give TCD the 8pm slot.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's inconceivable and I wouldn't be against the idea if the shows even looked compatible but as it stands I don't think it's a good idea. It would probably harm both shows with a mismatched marketing campaign etc.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this schedule. On your last point though, I note that Hart is all but assured a Friday slot next season so I don't see how the Reign/TCD pairing could happen.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Especially because I don't see Reign on Mondays doing anything better than the 0.4s that Hart is pulling, so it would be kind of pointless I think.
ReplyDeleteThe thing with moving HoD is that even though they may not want to do it just yet, a case could be made for it, if only because the show is certain to end up there next fall, so it would add a bit more of long term stability to their schedule. I still prefer that they move Beauty and simply slide Hart to 9pm Mondays but I could see the logic of doing Star-Crossed/Beauty and the Beast and Reign/Hart of Dixie on Mondays and Fridays, respectively, not only because it would be more of a long term plan but also because these pairings are way more compatible than the ones we are wanting them to do (Star-Crossed/HoD and Reign/Beauty)
ReplyDeleteI think it will come down to the wire and probably depends a bit on the subsets of the audience (as you've mentioned in an earlier post). But I still hope they move Reign, if only because the slot is better to launch The 100 than Wednesdays at 9 is.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it doesn't get a full season. Yes, there is the Nikita precedent, but I think that is more the exception than it is the rule.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they should move Supernatural this season. The show is a hero for surviving everything but there is a certain limit to what they should expose it to I think. If the 100 happens to work, then I would be all for a The 100/Supernatural pairing next season though
ReplyDeleteI think they should do a joint "superhero night" promo for Arrow/TTP. Since they go to all the trouble of pairing similar shows together, they would be wise to do more to capitalize on it. There's probably a massive audience overlap between the shows (in theory), so this strategy could give TTP the boost it needs to stay afloat. And while Arrow is guaranteed a renewal, it might benefit somewhat as well.
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same way as you do lol. I really don't like to root against a show, but sometimes I feel like I have to because it means rooting for my own shows. Hopefully Reign is moved and The 100 gets the Thursday slot.
ReplyDeleteSame here. I am really rooting for the 100, let's hope!
ReplyDeleteIf The CW programmed 10pm, Cult/SPN could have been the bomb, especially since SPN fans are familiar with Alona Tal. Unfortunately, it was never possible since neither Cult nor SPN are shows that can be placed at 8pm.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that 100%. Even promote the common Amell factor might help. I find the shows the perfect pairing. I always watch one right after the other and always make sure to watch one when I know I will have the time to watch both. They really fit together.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Even in terms of marketing, Oxygen makes more sense, especially considering The CW's new direction - more sci-fi/fantasy/action, less teen drama and romance. Oxygen sounds like a cool sci-fi show, whereas S-C clearly spells "cheesy romance". The title change won't help the show any, methinks.
ReplyDeleteIf BatB fans didn't comment on articles that have nohing to do with their show just to say how awesome it is, and use their annoying hashtags all the time, that fandom wouldn't take so much abuse.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if The CW will get tired of moving SPN before its fans get tired of following it to new slots. All available evidence would suggest so. :)
ReplyDeleteIndeed it does!
ReplyDeleteI dont see it doing any worse on a Friday than it does on Monday now so maybe that will be a blessing for the show in that at the very least it doesnt get the chop before the season is over. I still dont see it coming back for another season unless its ratings improve somewhat.
ReplyDeleteI saw the issues with the show from the start it just wasnt appealing to most tv viewers, the premise didnt exactly scream watch me (more like WTF?) not too mantion the preveiws did little to entice people to watch. Other than maybe on this sire there was very little interest in the show to begin with and I think the CW knew it.
ReplyDeleteI assumed this would be the case for mid season, with Beauty going to Friday and The 100 replacing Reign when it finished its run in January. Reign getting a back order has left CW with a bit of an issue schedule wise.
ReplyDeletewhy would then give Reign a back roder only to dump it on Friday?
ReplyDeleteI think Reign is actually doing slighly better that TTP in the young demos plus it aparenlt had better international sales (or so I was told before the season started).
ReplyDeleteThey are both underperforming and both currenly would be considered bubble shows.
More of Klaus?! More of Rebekah and Elijah?! Awesome news!!!!! I´m loving The Originals!!
ReplyDeleteI gave up on The Tomorrow People after the first 3 episodes. Maybe I should give Reign a try.
The spring numbers for TTP and Reign are going to be interesting, I'm leaning towards both hitting 0.5's before mid season so that could creat an interesting battle with the tho new shows (depending on where they land on the schedule) when it comes to renewals in May.
ReplyDeleteI fully expect SPN, TVD, Arrow, TO to be renewed, HOD to be given a final season order of some kind and moved to Friday, 3 new shows to be added in the fall, 2 at mid season. Leaving around 2/3 hours left on the schedule with Beauty, Carrie, T100, TTP, Reign, SC all fighting it ourt for those spots. Carrie and Beauty look like they'll be cancelled unless one or both moves to the summer.
If they did move it this will be the last time since season 10 will be its last.
ReplyDeleteSame reason why they renewed The Carrie Diaries and put it on Fridays?
ReplyDeleteThank god!! So SO thrilled that Reign got a full season pickup! That news made my day. SUCH a good show, everyone should check it out!
ReplyDeletei agree about supernatural i was saying they should not move it.
ReplyDeletehowever i do think they should move the originals to thursday at 9. Everyone seems to think thats such a great spot but historically shows haven't done great there because most of TVD fans seem to change the channel. However the originals and TVD have most of the same fans and the shows are crossing over characters. I never understood why it wasn't placed there to begin with.
Yeah for the 3 shows, especially The Originals! I already watch the 3 shows but I think that maybe more people will check them out.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for Regin. I hope it stays on Thursdays. 100 looks lame I hope it doesn't make it on that slot line.
ReplyDeleteIt would have done great with Supernatural but it was already paired with Arrow and that combo seemed to be working for them, so I understand why they wouldn't want to split it midseason. If Arrow had done horrible, I am sure Cult would have had Arrow's spot. Shame, cuz I don't watch Arrow, lol. I don't like the actor that plays him, he's so stiff. If that makes any sense, lol.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I suppose I never thought of it like that. Good point! I definitely wouldn't want either show to have been watered down any in order to be aired earlier.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural and Arrow definitely made a formiddable team. I have to be honest, I actually agree with you with regards to Amells acting, at least during the first few episodes anyway. He has definitely improved and isn't close to being as wooden as he was at the start.
ReplyDeleteI know its impossible which sucks. But i said i wish it happened so that shows fans dont get sad when its cancelled. Im still not over secret circle getting cancelled :(
ReplyDeleteomg me too, I just didnt want anyone to know cause i thought i was the only one but its gonna have some pretty cool people star in it so i might watch it when season 1 ends if it does not get cancelled
ReplyDeleteReign and The Originals <3
ReplyDeleteTotally agree :)
ReplyDeleteVery excited for this! Tomorrow People and Originals are both very enjoyable! Reign is good but I think it is best binge watched...
ReplyDelete
