Chicago Fire - Episode 2.06 - Joyriding - Review

We’re back after the three weeks hiatus to witness one firefighter’s finest hour. Severide finds a boy named Nathan operating a tractor on a deserted field as it topples over and caused a rebar to pierce through the kid’s arm. Severide is left to save Nathan from a tractor unable to get outside help.

I don’t really know how to start. I should’ve enjoyed the episode more than I actually did, but honestly it wasn’t that amazing as I thought it would be.

OK, I know most of you must be really happy with how the episode turned out to be. I mean yes, Severide saved Nathan and it was great. But he took one whole night to try to reach for the screwdriver(although it only showed him doing it a few times), only to realize he could’ve improvised and find another way to make the tractor operable again in order to make sounds to attract attention. It wasn’t until Shay showed up while trying to track Severide’s whereabouts that they finally got help.

I just couldn’t stop being cynical about the whole process, like for the scene when Severide told Nathan that he’s going to pull the rebar out, I knew immediately it was going to be a bad decision. And I was right, Nathan started to bleed out once the rebar’s out. I have to give Nathan credits though, he was unbelievably brave. It I were him I would've fainted at the sight of my wound.

Many of you must be thinking I’m insane or something for questioning Severide’s heroic ways, and that you’d ask me to be in his position and see if I could’ve saved Nathan. I probably couldn’t.

Moving on. I was surprised that Mouch didn’t get elected as union president. I also liked that they finally gave us some information on Benny, about his family looking for him. I wonder why he’s hiding from them. I’m still looking forward to seeing how 51 would react once they finds out Benny will be taking over as chief.

The scene where Casey brought Darden’s son to see his badge on the wall was heartbreaking as the kid bursts into tears. He’s finally getting some closure, I hope.

Please leave your comments and let me know if I’m the only crazy one that did not enjoy the episode as much as the rest of you do, just don’t kill me in the process.

The promo for next week’s episode looks amazing, hopefully I won't be disappointed.

  1. I agree! This episode was not up to par. Why on earth would S have pulled anything out of a wound? Talk about nuts.

  2. I thought I was the only one who felt this way! Glad that I'm not alone. Maybe the promo and the 3 week break made me super pumped and excited and then be disappointed with the ep

  3. I liked the episode. One highlight was Dawson getting Arthur to reveal that he had set the other bar on fire, which finally led to his takedown. I didn't have a problem with the tractor scene. And I liked how he managed to flip the tractor so that they could get out,

  4. Rewatch the beginning and the end... Is Nathan's mom Beth? Bennys wife? Which would possibly make Nathan severides brother!

  5. Hmm I don't think so unless Benny is the step father as Nathan stated that his father works in the construction industry and would teach him how to operate a tractor... We'll see

  7. This show has the best production crew of any series. The whole scene with the boy and Severide was phenomenal
