Bones - Episode 9.10 - The Mystery in the Meat - Review

In this week's Bones episode, Brennan finally got a bachelorette party, Booth and Angela reconciled, and the most disgusting portrayal of processed foods ever had its day.

The ewww in the mystery: This week's case saw the show once again up the ante on how gross it can get, and so soon after Hodgins became an insect incubator!  Actually, it's quite impressive that in its ninth season, the show is still so ambitious and creative in its repulsiveness.  "Hot bacon" aside, the best part of the mystery was when it came to a head (teehee) with Brennan shining a light on the blood still present in the killer's hair.  This makes two weeks in a row of excellent take-down scenes, after "The Fury in the Jury" saw B&B catch a similarly nervy culprit in a clever and badass manner.  It's always awesome to see a self-satisfied murderer so smoothly outsmarted by our heroes.

Daisy and Oliver Season 9 has somehow softened me, gradually, towards squinterns I previously disliked, such as these two.  Perhaps Daisy is just more likable outside of her relationship with Sweets.  She certainly has a new edge since the break-up and is less over-the-top with her goody-two-shoes show-off routine.  Daisy has grown quite a lot.  Her antagonism with Oliver showed this because she handled it so well.  Additionally, were those sparks of potential romance, or just friendship, between the two squinterns this week?  Could we see "Daisiver" in the future?

The cowgirls at the bar: The fun setting and uproarious events of Brennan's bachelorette party were fantastic.  The ladies looked fabulous in their outfits, and the drunken hijinks rang all too true of how these shindigs often play out.  It's a good thing Cam, Caroline, and Angela were there to keep the not-often-drunk Brennan and Daisy out of serious danger...though they still couldn't stop Brennan from inadvertently starting a biker brawl!

It's nice that Booth encouraged Brennan to let Angela throw her this party, despite his still feeling unresolved about her negative attitude towards him during the Pelant saga.  Booth valued Brennan's friendship with Angela, and the happiness it brings her, above his own feelings of awkwardness in the matter.

The make-up scene between Booth and Angela was sweet, if still showing (inevitably) some leftover awkwardness in what was a strange falling out during a crazy series of events.

Additionally, how adorable were Booth and Brennan when she came home slurring and stumbling from the bachelorette party?  This was a lovely and amusing scene between the two of them.  The ending scene, with their discussion of best friendship versus romantic relationships was interesting and poignant too because it showed that to Brennan, Booth is in a completely different stratosphere of emotional importance.

What did you think of Brennan's retroactive last night of single-dom?  Are you glad that Booth and Angela made up?  Share your opinions in the comments!

  2. It was an adorable episode. The girls night out was hilarious and the hijinks to die for! Loved Brennan drunk--she never loses it, so it was funny to see her unglued! And her sweet hubby Booth taking care of her afterward was so typical of Booth. That man wins the prize for a lovable, kindly spouse! Their love is getting sweeter even with marriage. I think she would see the value in it now, for sure!

Thought the sparks with Oliver and Daisy were actually rather cute--I have not liked either character in the past, but they just might change my feelings if we see a relationship start there--prickly pears/pairs unite! LOL! Talk about an odd couple...
