Bones - Episode 9.07 - The Nazi on the Honeymoon - Review
5 Nov 2013
Bones ReviewsBooth and Brennan's honeymoon was just as adventuresome as we'd expect of the crime-solving duo! Their supposed relaxation time in Buenos Aires led to a fascinating murder mystery, with plenty of time for romance along the way.
Brennan can't relax and lie back on her poolside chair sipping a beer with as much ease and enjoyment as Booth. Just as she was unable to stop working right up until she walked down the aisle, Brennan feels a constant need to stay busy even on vacation. With her knowledge of the forensic anthropological studies of the area, Brennan quickly and efficiently finds herself a brain-teasing challenge: the bones of a recently-murdered man buried beneath the remains of victims who had been dead much longer. This cleverly concealed corpse carried a heavy mystery that started back in Nazi Germany. While there were fairly overt clues as to the killer's identity throughout the episode, it was an intriguing case - not least of all because the murderer is much to be pitied.
It was also cool to see Brennan challenge herself willfully by solving a case mostly outside of her comfort zone, in the Argentinian lab without the technological amenities of the Jeffersonian. Sure, the team back home chimed in every now and then with some help, but Brennan did plenty of work the old-fashioned way.
Booth enjoyed himself drinking many a tiny and doubtless delicious cup of coffee with Inspector Valenza, a guest character who provided an enjoyable counterpart to the real life "Agent Andy." Similarly, Brennan had an interesting partner this week in Dr. Perez, who raised some questions as to the overall nobility of Brennan's intentions, trying (in an often humorously unsuccessful manner) to check Bones' ego. Events came full circle as the investigation led B&B to Perez as the perpetrator, leading to an emotionally powerful denouement.
Between the constant references to Agent Andy and the adorable flirtations (Brennan's remarks about missing the hotel room), Booth and Brennan's honeymoon was filled with as much convivial romance and fun as it was excitement and suspense.
Angela and Hodgins had a trying experience in babysitting Christine along with caring for their own toddler Michael Vincent. It was funny to see Hodgela question the wisdom of having a second child in light of how hard it was to stay on top of two hyper kids. However, the simple fact of the beauty and wonder of parenthood leads the couple to conclude that logic aside, they totally "want another one." Aw!

Thanks Virginia, not my favourite episode this season. I guess I expected a little more from the Honeymoon episode.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a totally cute--typical Bones way of "taking a vacation" situation. It would have been nice to see more romance-true. But there were also many sweet moments between B&B also. Hodgela and Cam were funny in their harried pursuit of Christine and Michael Vincent back home. Cute to see them putting on their best faces to keep Bones and Booth from worrying about Christine.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I really enjoyed it and was shocked that so many people didn't. I thought B&B were adorable and so obviously in love during their scenes together. And both looked gorgeous I might add. Nice review :)
ReplyDeleteI loved the episode! I thought it was typical Bones! And David & Emily 's performances make it seem so real! I love this show!
ReplyDeleteThe episode was nice and funny and we could see Christine for the first time this season. Which was great but I did miss a bit more erotic between them. I mean we have lots of it in many other episodes why not in the honeymoon episode. They just talked about it - a little glimpse would have been nice. Anyway the rest was good.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like it very much because I used love it for being a crime drama with serious things, right now I'm not sure what bones is about... it was so predictable that doctor being the killer when she dropped the skull accidentally
ReplyDeleteamazing everybody talks about the couplings and romance forgetting this is "supposed" to be a crime science series
