Bones - Episode 9.07 - The Nazi on the Honeymoon - Review

Booth and Brennan's honeymoon was just as adventuresome as we'd expect of the crime-solving duo!  Their supposed relaxation time in Buenos Aires led to a fascinating murder mystery, with plenty of time for romance along the way.

Brennan can't relax and lie back on her poolside chair sipping a beer with as much ease and enjoyment as Booth.  Just as she was unable to stop working right up until she walked down the aisle, Brennan feels a constant need to stay busy even on vacation.  With her knowledge of the forensic anthropological studies of the area, Brennan quickly and efficiently finds herself a brain-teasing challenge: the bones of a recently-murdered man buried beneath the remains of victims who had been dead much longer.  This cleverly concealed corpse carried a heavy mystery that started back in Nazi Germany.  While there were fairly overt clues as to the killer's identity throughout the episode, it was an intriguing case - not least of all because the murderer is much to be pitied.

It was also cool to see Brennan challenge herself willfully by solving a case mostly outside of her comfort zone, in the Argentinian lab without the technological amenities of the Jeffersonian.  Sure, the team back home chimed in every now and then with some help, but Brennan did plenty of work the old-fashioned way.

Booth enjoyed himself drinking many a tiny and doubtless delicious cup of coffee with Inspector Valenza, a guest character who provided an enjoyable counterpart to the real life "Agent Andy."  Similarly, Brennan had an interesting partner this week in Dr. Perez, who raised some questions as to the overall nobility of Brennan's intentions, trying (in an often humorously unsuccessful manner) to check Bones' ego.  Events came full circle as the investigation led B&B to Perez as the perpetrator, leading to an emotionally powerful denouement.

Between the constant references to Agent Andy and the adorable flirtations (Brennan's remarks about missing the hotel room), Booth and Brennan's honeymoon was filled with as much convivial romance and fun as it was excitement and suspense.

Angela and Hodgins had a trying experience in babysitting Christine along with caring for their own toddler Michael Vincent.  It was funny to see Hodgela question the wisdom of having a second child in light of how hard it was to stay on top of two hyper kids.  However, the simple fact of the beauty and wonder of parenthood leads the couple to conclude that logic aside, they totally "want another one."  Aw!
