‘I dropped a tear in the ocean. The day you find it is the day I will stop missing you.’

I dedicate the final recap and review of 2013 for Beauty and the Beast to all my lovely Beasties who have turned out every week to read my words. Thank you for reading, commenting and supporting me. Thanks for pushing and helping me to become a better writer. The title of this recap and review sums up not only how I feel about the show but you all as well.

Beasties, I’m going to miss you and the show so much. I want you to have a safe and happy holiday season. Don’t forget to keep on voting for Kristin and the show for the PCA’s. Please remember to be kind, polite and civil, to the crew, cast, guest stars and especially each other when interacting on any social media platform. True Beasties never give up, stick together and believe in each other and our show. Don’t be that fandom. The BatB Fandom is generally regarded as warm, welcoming, understanding and passionate lot. Let’s try and keep it that way. Together we Beasties can overcome almost anything. OK? OKAY!

I’ll be posting something new and fun at least twice per week, for every week we’re on hiatus over on my blog. Expect meta-analysis articles, ratings news, renewal prospects, fan campaigns, polls, challenges, updates on the Beastie December Challenge and a whole lot more, so check it out and check often.

The hosts of the DVMPE’s Beauty and the Beast Podcast cordially invites you live tweet with us over the hiatus, every Monday from 8 pm – 10 pm EST. I will be posting a schedule of the episodes and hash tags we’ll be using on Twitter, the Facebook page and my blog. Hope to see a lot of familiar screen names.

Now on to your regularly scheduled recap and review…

This week’s episode was written by John A. Norris. The last episode he wrote was 2x03: Liar, Liar. I think this is my favorite between the two. We have also had a returning director, Stuart Gillard. The last episode he directed was 2x01: Who Am I. The combination provided a stellar mid-season finale.

Since so many people seemed to love last week’s format, I think this is the one I will adopt for good.

Synopsis: A DIFFICULT DECISION ALTERS CAT AND VINCENT'S RELATIONSHIP FOR GOOD --- Vincent and Cat find themselves at odds on how to deal with Agent Reynolds, which forces Vincent to wonder if he is more beast than man. Cat makes a drastic move that will forever change her relationship with Vincent.

Cat

We got strong Cat, soft Cat and vulnerable Cat. More importantly we got cunning Cat who tricked and manipulated Agent Reynolds like a boss. Cat went through such a diverse of emotions in this episode. She's on the verge on a breakdown which I think will be cathartic. She needs to slow her roll way down and really digest and process everything that has happened to her. She doesn't need a man in her life right now, so I really hope they don't shove her into a romantic relationship with Gabe. The only relationship I want to see her in is one with Tess filled with drinking, shopping and open honest discussion. I love that Cat drew a line in the sand about her conviction on what is right and what is wrong. I love it even more that she put her money where her mouth was and defended her beliefs. When it rains, it pours and Cat is drenched. I'm curious to find out who her umbrella and port in the storm will be when we return.

Vincent

I finally saw what I needed from Vincent. I was tired of tunnel vision. I was tired of him just accepting his circumstances and not trying to change them. Vincent finally got angry about what was taken from him. I saw a glimmer of hope that he has more than just a physical attraction to Cat, a felt a little sliver of some emotional connection. What I didn't see however was a man who wanted to safeguard his humanity. If the question is if Vincent is more man or beast, I'd have to say he's more beast at this point. Even without Tori around getting in his head and/or beastly emotions. Vincent was just as shocked as Cat that she shot him. I hope he can understand that she did it for his own good as well as her own good. Cat simply would not have been the same person had she let Vincent go through with it. I guess we now know why, TPTB decided to take away Vincent's self-healing abilities. Looks like things are coming together and the bigger picture is becoming clearer.

Tess

Tess is getting back to being that friend we all came to know and love back in season 1. She was there for Cat. She only one dig in on Vincent. She managed to brighten up a very dark episode. Now, if only she'd stop playing games with JT's heart I'd have absolutely no beefs with her. I'm happy to see them correcting the character of Tess and getting back to the character's roots of being funny, relatable and Cat's best friend on whom she can rely.

JT

JT didn't get nearly enough screen time but at least he was in the episode and got to spend a little time with his lady crush, Tess. Austin manages to make the most of what he's given and managed to make me smile and go, 'Awww', in the short time he did have. Can't wait until he and Vincent get to spend more time to bond.

Gabe

Well, kids, we got out official confirmation, that Gabe is indeed a good guy with pure and true intentions. I found myself once again falling back in love with the character. This episode reminded me of why I gushed so hard about him at the beginning of the season. The hug he got from Cat was earned and I have no problem with it. But I will have a problem with them getting romantically and/or sexually involved. Gatherine, is a brotp not an otp that I can get behind. Gabe handled the Agent Reynolds situation like a boss. His poker face is an epic myth in the making. Can you believe that Agent Reynolds knew the whole time that he was a beast/former beast? Do you think Agent Reynolds knew there was a cure for beasts? The interactions that I would to see more of is Tori and Gabe. I think that might be the better protege/mentor relationship I'd prefer and also gets her out of the awkward position of being perceived as getting in the way of VinCat.

Agent Reynolds

He got his in the end. I was happy he didn't manage to weasel his way out the predicatment. But then again, I wasn't quite ready to say goodbye to Ted Whittall. But he does have another show that provides higher billing so I understand. But more importantly, this leaves Cat as an official orphan once more. I truly do believe that Bob started off with the best of intentions but somewhere along way got corrupted and twisted. I know he loves Cat but the damage is done and Cat is going to have to write him off completely.

Tori

That little she-beast is out of control and in desperate need of spanking. I just hope Vincent is not the one to give it to her, at least not in the literal sense at any rate. Her beast senses have awakened. She has her first kill under her belt. She has an odd sway over Vincent on top of being a beast power amplifier. I don't like it. Tori went from being sympathetic in her introduction, to plot device in the next episode, to sultry vixen who wants to woo Vincent to the Beast side permanently. I love the idea of a female beast but I don't like bratty, ungrateful, sheltered little twits who know nothing of the world. PS: could she have picked anything more gouche from Cat's closet (fishnet shirt and a black leather jacket, what was she trying out for an updated version of Grease?)

VinCat

Underneath it all, there's still hope for VinCat. Cat wants it. Vincent wants it. But the writers feel like they need a break to learn to appreciate each other. I agree they fell for each other much too fast last season and was hoping them falling in love all over again would be a slow, beautiful courtship that captured and reflected the beginnings of their epic love story but made it feel more mature and earned. I also think that they both need time apart to digest all the events that have happened and piled up in such a short amount of time. I trust the writers and more importantly, I trust Sherri and Jenny's vision, they are after all the biggest VinCat shippers around. Have hope, faith, trust and most importantly patience and things will turn around.

Grade: A-

Reason: I felt the hope and frustration from the characters finally. So many of my concerns were addressed and I think on the way to being fixed. What I wanted to see from Vincent, frustration, anger and despair that he should have been feeling this whole time about what was done to him has finally come to fruition. Cat drew a line in the sand and was firm in her convictions, with no waffling finally.

Tess was a supportive friend, an ear for listening and a shoulder to cry on. Gabe is confirmed to be tried and true in his motives. The Tori/Vincent conundrum is shaping up to be the mentor/protege relationship that I hoped for. Bonus: We got to see and have it semi explained to us just how those nifty beast powers work. Agent Reynolds got what he deserved enabling Cat to actually keep a promise for the first time ever, it feels like. I didn't grade this episode as a mid-season finale because I'm firmly convinced that 'Don't Die on Me' was suppose to be it and nothing can really top 'Bridesmaid Up' as far as I'm concerned so it wouldn't be a fair comparison. I like shows that are well-balanced between mythology and character exploration.

But if I had to choose, I'd go with character development and that's just what we got for better or for worse. The material gave every single character a moment to shine. I'm back on Vincent's side. I'm back to rooting for VinCat. Cat is my favorite character once more. It was a great episode to keep my mind churning for the next six weeks to be sure.

Awards

Character of the Night

Finally! I felt utterly compelled to make Cat the character of the night. Kristin gave us one hell of a performance. The writer gave her some really meaty material to sink her teeth into.

Best Character Interactions

It was a three way tie for me this week.

I loved the return of the friendship between Cat Tess, finally.

Cat and Bob in all their scenes were just really amazing together.

Cat and Vincent broke my heart in every scene they were in together. The wanting, the longing, the trying to overcome despite all odds. I love they gave us an emotional roller coaster when it came to those two. They gave us hope and glimpses while still staying true to the story they think is best to tell.

Favorite Moments

1. JT smiles when he finds out Tess will be accompanying him on the body snatch mission.
2. Cat smirks on her way out of Bob's office after successfully setting the trap in motion.
3. Vincent rolls his eyes when Gabe begins to explain his plan.
4. Cat and Vincent hug.
5. Cat and Gabe hug.

Favorite Lines

1. Tess: Let's deal with one beast at time. First we'll deal with your father and then we'll deal with little miss glowy eyes.
2. JT: Perfect.
3. Cat: So no kicking him in the face?

Favorite Scenes

1. Vincent and Tori team up to save themselves from the explosion
2. Cat confides in Tess about her feelings toward Vincent.
3. JTnT go to pick up Zack's corspe
4. Cat and Gabe go to Agent Reynolds office to rattle him
5. Cat and Agent Reynolds say their "goodbyes" and Cat assures him she will find the person responsible for Vincent's death.
6. Cat pleads with Vincent not to kill Agent Reynolds and ends up shooting him.
7. Cat drawing her line in the sand with Vincent and pleads with him to keep his humanity intact.

WTF Moments

1. Vincent causing the car wreck.
2. Vincent not taking one single second to check on Cat.
3. Vincent not being able to be soothed by Cat causing Cat to shoot him.
4. Tori killing the guy with glasses
5. Tori sassing Team Beastie

Burning Questions

1. How long until VinCat is back on track?
2. Is Vincent going to get back all of his memories?
3. If Vincent does get back all of his memories, does that mean he'll be the old Vincent most Beasties love?

Theory

The theory I'm holding out hope for is that the Vincent we've seen walking around is a clone and the real Vincent is somewhere in a Muirfield freezer waiting to be rescued.

Repeated Element

Last week, was the phrase alternate universe. This week it was: beast can only get worse, not better and revenge vs. justice.

The Theme

This week's episode theme was a little different. It didn't relate to more than one character. This episode was for all intent and purposes a Vincent centric episode and so the title reflected that fact. I didn't mind it but I prefer when the theme of the week connects to more than one or two characters. I just like that feeling of things being interlocked and interwoven.

Good News

Sherri and Jenny confirmed via Twitter that there will be no more kisses shared between Vincent and Tori. Although, sex can occur without kisses, especially if one is channeling their beastie side.

It has also been confirmed that the character of Tori will not be sticking around for the rest of the season. It has been speculated that she has 3 more episode at most.

Polls

  1. What a great review and agree with it all...If the dreaded Gabe/Cat rebound romance happens when she eventually rejects him for Vincent will he seek revenge and team up with Bob Reynolds.....wish people would stop hatin Vincent remember this guy is the victim here.Imagine having your humanity ripped from you and then finally after 10 years falling in love just to be abducted and memories erased.Little point Catherine didnt mind Vincent killing someone to save Evan last season,Bob maybe her dad but they only just forged a slight relationship,They both need some time apart but really hope we see them back together for a few episodes before the season ends,I am sure all will be fine #Beasties #BatB

  2. Lilith, Thank you for all you do for the Beastie faithful your hard work and dedication, is very much appreciated, I know for me you've always been that beacon of hope, your review was right on point, I know the tear in the ocean is only a metaphor, not Tru I cried like a baby, when Catherine was doing her thing, she was amazing she did every emotion humanly possible, I'm glad they restored our faith in a strong woman, she obviously did what she had to do, I want ramble in cause you covered everything I wanted to say, Thank you for your hard work again

  3. Oh dear, that was LONG. I'm sorry, Lilith! I didn't even realise when that happened! And I didn't even mention JT, Tess and Bob. Though about Bob, I would like to say that while he genuinely seems to care for his daughter (and that made me sympathise with the father in him), but there no excuse for what he did =|

  4. I totally get where you are coming from too. I host a podcast with two other lovely ladies who help me see the other side of my arguments and alsoI understand that you can't please all of the people all of the time. The writers have to contend with network execs trying to put their input in, trying to appeal to a broader demo and pull in some guys, all while trying to keep the Beasties that have been here since the beginning happy and finding a fresh approach for season 2. A tough job.

Since Vincent isn't getting his memories back, I'm clinging harder than ever to fact that this Vincent is a clone, lol and that while no one should ever try to change someone, they can help them become a better person and I feel like that's what Cat is trying to do.

... and it's totes cool that this post was so long. I love when passionate Beasties stop by and write their hearts out.

  5. Thanks. BTW, I recognize your icon from twitter! I hope a lot Beasties will find me over the hiatus, I have a lot of fun planned as well as some ambitious ideas on how to save the show that will need one hell of signal boost.

  7. Nice review Lilith. Glad you are back to having hope for V. Shoutout to KK in this ep, everything they gave her she did amazingly. Both KK and JR were really phenomenal in this ep, he did do a vengeful V well, but essentially the entire cast killed it in this ep so kudos to them.

The approach they took of stripping V done to his core was a risky one but I see that now it will be quite a journey for him going forward, to reclaim his humanity. This will be exciting to watch.

Can't blame Cat really, the writing was on the wall but I do hope that they can both finally deal with their issues and heal and grow as they move forward. This separation will hopefully help them with that.

I totally agree, brotp for Cat/Gabe and mentor/mentee for Tori and V. I truly can't see it any other way.

Lastly, thanks for all you do for the beasties, even through these times of change. I appreciate that even when you did not like something, you at least expressed your frustration in a good clean way. I appreciate what you do for beasties and we are all in this together during this HIATUS ;)

  8. Another great review Lillith - thank you for taking the time to post these! I absolutely loved this episode and I now think this was probably the best episode of the season! It gave me so many feelings, and left me holding on for dear life! For me, the MVP of this episode was KK. Her character went through the proverbial emotional ringer in this episode and she laid it all on the line, her performance was just outstanding! Well, I think it's safe to say that our favorite couple has finally hit rock bottom. If Catherine shooting Vincent does not qualify, then I don't know what does! I hope in the 2nd half of the season, we will see them begin to put the pieces of their relationship back together, as I think Vincent is still worth saving. The fact that he was struggling between killing Reynolds and letting Catherine put him in jail tells me that there is definitely some of the old Vincent still within him - he is not completely lost to us. Loved JT & Tess! Their scene in the morgue were hilarious and provided some humour to what was a very intense episode. I even enjoyed Gabe....and I haven't liked him since the end of last season! His scene with Reynolds was great - he handled him like a Boss! Overall - an incredibly dramatic and entertaining finale! Now....waiting 7 weeks to see what happens next is going to be torture!! Hope you have a happy holiday, and I look forward to reading more of your reviews in the new year!

  10. Yes, the wait begins and I'm in overdrive thinking about all the ways we can save this show, so I hope you remember to stop by my blog over the break as well as participate the fandom events. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  11. Yes, I try really hard but last week had me at the breaking point, I thought Brad Kern would be amazing addition to the crew and writing staff (I LOVED Charmed). But every single time he opens his big fat mouth in an interview my blood boils and a new BatB ficlet is born, lol. There is no way around it the Vincent we knew is gone. Even if he does get his memories back he's been deeply and permanently changed by killing so many beasts and now having Cat shoot him. There's no turning back but that doesn't mean he can't learn to balance the new inner beast. It also doesn't mean that VinCat can't build a brand new relationship from scratch if they so choose. I'll just be chanting over here in my corner chanting "I trust the writers" for the next few weeks and pray my faith pays off. Thanks for reading and commenting.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lolol!!! I TOTALLY understand. They shouldn't have him do interviews any more. It never ends up well. But yes. I will chant that along with you!

  13. Great review for a great episode!

I have to say, Episode 2.08 "Man or Beast" is now my favorite episode! First it was "Hothead" and I was a little worried for the show b/c the episodes between 2.04 and 2.08 were good but not great. Last season, I remembered EVERY episode being my new favorite (yes, even the Alex saga). This season, however, did not have the same effect.

Despite my slight disappointment with the episodes of 2.05-2.07, I really love the show and I will support it always! I understand there will be scenes / episodes that I won't like (it's like that with every show, isn't it?) but, in the end, I believe Vincent & Catherine will come back together full force! I'm anxious to see what the writers have in store for us and even if Vincent & Catherine separate for a few episodes, I won't mind. I seriously think they need some time apart to figure out who they are without the other. Until this episode, the show hasn't really explored that side of the series.

Vincent (without Tori!) needs to figure out who he is and whether or not he is man or beast. I think the midseason finale has opened up that saga. The next few episodes, in my opinion, will explore the separation of VinCat which is exactly what I think the show needs right now. (who'd ever thunk it that i'd be rooting for Vincent & Catherine to take a break?!)

Catherine, on the other hand, needs some girl time with Tess! With Heather being gone, Catherine needs Tess more than ever. I really hope Gabe doesn't try anything with Catherine because, even for him, that would be low. Catherine just went through a series of traumatic events and I agree, the LAST thing she needs is a guy in her life (except for JT...JT has been a great friend when he has had his screen time).

I'm glad to read that Tori will not be showing up anymore. I don't believe it is the last we've seen of her though. I think she might be playing a part in future seasons (and yes, I have faith in the show and that it will be renewed. Stop looking at those darned ratings). Tori was definitely a great plot device and her character truly challenged Vincent's beast side.

However, I don't believe Vincent will ever have more than a beastly attraction to her. He loves Catherine (even if he doesn't remember). And the look he gave her when she shot him?! He was heartbroken and I think it really showed him what Cat's willing to do if he ever does try to cross that line again. In ways, in the first part of the season, V really screwed up. I loved his character but as far as his relationship with Cat, he better bet his ass that he's going to have to work his butt off to win Cat's heart again.

I read somewhere that we will soon find out that there is more than just fate going on between Vincent & Catherine--that there is some mythological reason to why Vincent & Catherine are destined. I love that approach and I'm curious to learn more! Is Cat some sort of beast too? or something else?

So many questions!! :D (which, for me, is a good thing!!!)

Oh and one more burning question: if Tori is not going to be in any more episodes, than is she just going to up and leave Vincent to die on his own? Also, where was she when Vincent was attacking Reynolds? After all, SHE was the one who wanted to kill him in the first place...so where did she go? (I'm not mad but I want to know where she was...was she booking a flight to some remote island so she can get in touch with her inner Beast?) Hmmmmm.... I think I might have to theorize a bit on my own!

Again! Great review!!! sorry for reading my babble! :)

  17. No, this is the place to share your thoughts, please do babble. It gives me somethings to think about over this long and dreadful hiatus. don't know how I'm going to make it through, lol. I think we both follow each other on Twitter so let's collaborate on some theories in the coming weeks. Sound good? Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Hope you join me and some other Beasties in some fandom antics over the break,

As usual a great review :)

Catherine had to shoot Vincent. She had to stop him from killing Bob in cold blood. He did give him a really good beating though:) and Bob deserved every punch and kick he got. I also think that it was good for VIncent that he got to do that. He got revenge, without killing him.

Why did she shoot him? Because otherwise Vincent would have become what Evan predicted. He would have succombed to his animal nature, and lost his humanity. Because Vincent is mostly human, deep inside. Tori is affecting him badly, with her desire to go with the beast. The difference is that she was born that way.

And yes Vincent has killed before. But only once that was truly in cold blood. And that was killing Zhao. All other killings have been to protect someone. Even if they were a part of his missions, the actual killing has been preceeded by protection. Gina in ep 2, Catherine in ep 3, Aaron in ep 4, Catherine in ep 5 and Tori in ep 6. And still they had affected his humanity. I think he was right when he said that the assasinations had done that.

I'm really looking forward to how they will handle what has happened. How it will affect Vincent, that Catherine took that step. Will he see that it was for his own best interest? My guess is that Tori will do her best to convince him about the opposite. But I hope that Vincent finally can see through her. And the fact that she will only be in a few more episodes speaks in favour of that thought.

I wish I could go into hibernation, and wake up on january 13. It's too far away....

  20. Great review Lilian. But I am so wondering what you guys have against love at first sight. Isn´t that the most beautiful and heartwarming thing in the world. Why is everyone repeating one phrase that some writers have said a long time ago? "They fell for each other much too fast last season" . Would you say the same of e.g. Romeo and Juliet? Too fast and too much!
And you write "I was hoping them falling in love all over again would be a slow, beautiful courtship", yes that would be a brilliant development but where is it? Instead they are falling out of love, slowly and painfully in every sense of the word.
And one thing is a mystery to me. Here they have practically discovered an new actor that is brilliant, charismatic and has chemistry that pierces right through the screen. Gorgeous too. And they cut down his screen time with 25% in the 8th crucial episode before the hiatus. Why? Are they jealous of him? Who is that Kiwi guy that is catching everyone´s interest?

  21. I hope this does not post twice and please accept my apologies if it does. I liked your review. I choose not to watch this episode as I am saturated with the darkness and despair so far. I choose not to watch so I am able to continue watching. Which may sound weird to some poeple, but I have not been feeling the feeling I had last year with this show and the reason I fell in love with it.
I like the idea of testing their love, I like the idea of challenges; I like that the Muirfield arc has been played out; and I like the idea of a she beast as a challenge though not with the physical part. I really like the idea of them being strong characters individually though I thought they really showed that in Season 1 with their love story.
I feel however, that all of what we are feeling after each episode could have been done with less annhilation of all the characters. It is too extreme from season 1, which happened, not matter how much some think it happened in the wrong way. I don't personally think it was too soon in season 1, it is an epic love story after all and the epicness is fighting those forces against it-you need to be together for that.
I agree that insulting the writers, actors, etc is not the way to do things. Constructive criticism is the way and though there many people clearly who are loving this season there are just as many who are not and those people need some satisfaction too. We all love this show and want it to continue but the ratingss are saying otherwise. There needs to be some meeting in the middle.
For me personally and I respect everyone elses opinions, the really sad thing right now is that we are on our way to cancellation. I know we have many episodes left but for those who are hating this season, we need to get our faith back in the writers from last year. They know what we are like; they knkow what made us love the show last year and it was Vincent, Cat, Tess and Jt. I think Brad Kearns is probably a very talented man, but I think he has made some wrong decisions for this year, and the cast and crew from last year are letting that happen. We have such amazing actors. The characters they play and the emotions they instill in us is better than any other show in my book. It will be a travesty if this show get cancelled and we miss that amazing talent.
I am going to spend the next 7 weeks re-watching season 1. I cannot re-watch season 2. For me, this season begins after Christmas with episode 9 and I am going to have faith as well that we see this love story again VERY soon after Christmas. It cannot be episode 16 or beyond; it needs to be around the same time as last year and if that wasn't the plan then I think the writers need to re-think that. The success of the show forALL the fans depends on that.

  22. Brilliant Review! Love the format as I tend to stay away from reviews if they look like work to read ;)
    Break it down:
Opening = Beasties Rule - The fandom is the main reason I keep signing into twitter daily!! ;)

Cat analysis - Agree Completely - Hopefully writers are on the same wavelength!

Your thoughts, hopes & fears for remaining Characters = Hell Yes!!

Tori is one of those annoying & demeaning BRATZ dolls (grr)! Writers intent for us to despise her?? Or somewhat instinctive female reaction to stink eye her every move since we are all fiercely protective of Cat & she got smoochie with V O.O

Did not expect to feel genuine warmth towards Gabe (Team VinCat ;) but after this episode, Sendil's brilliant acting & the hug.... I have jumped on board -temporarily- with those sailing in the inflatable ;)

Vincent clone theory = I hope not! It doesn't sit well with me nor my hopes for the arc's that await us!

Love that each Beastie knows the Promo Jig & continually reiterates the need to participate, stream etc! <3 :DD

  24. Thank you for a great review and detailed insight of the whole episode. I absolutely loved the episode although it left me emotional wreck. JR & KK were outstanding, they way they portray the characters is just mind blowing. Explains why fans like myself are absolutely in love with the show & cast. The ending was heartbreaking to say the least....poor Vincent, it worries me that he may never forgive her for it, but I am hopeful that he will and they will overcome all these bad phases in their relationship. Tori is going to be troublesome by the looks of it, and I hope she really doesn't do a lot of damage to VinCat. Agent Reynolds as much as I disliked his character, I was thoroughly impressed with his performance. At least he did the right thing by Cat in the end... well I hope. All in all, I loved it, and its going to be absolute agony to wait for their on 13-Jan!!! 7 weeks of waiting impatiently and anxiously.

  25. Well said and you took my feelings right out of me on this..................."Beasties, I’m going to miss you and the show so much. OK? OKAY!"..................................I really, truly feel this same way.We are an amazing 1 of a kind Fandom!

  27. Oh, I could make the clone theory work but it's not worth effort and I would honestly be ticked off if that happened, really it's just a running gag from the podcast. Yep,.totally bummed about Vincent not being able to remember all that JT has done for him. Their friendship really was one of the high points in season 1. I really feel like the writers, especially Sherri and Jenny love Sendhil so I'm not worried about him being bad. I love Amber but the pacing of Tori's turn for the worse was too rushed and just made her look like a whiny little brat throwing a temper tantrum unfortunately. I get her side of it but the way it was written rubbed me the wrong way. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  28. Yep, Beasties are awesome and it's why I work so hard on my reviews, the podcasts and ideas to get the show another season.

  29. Vincent will forgive Cat just not forget. I love the cast and crew they do amazing things with what they're given. I love that we are spending more time on Vincent because Jay shouldn't just be around for his good looks, he can act too and I'm glad they remembered that. The wait wouldn't hurt so much if we Beasties didn't care, lol. Thanks for your comments.

  31. I'm going down with the ship. I like the new elements for the most part but what I don't like is it wreaking havoc in the fandom. So many depressed Beasties makes me upset. Not respecting what makes our show great riles me up. Misogynistic undertones creeping into a show that was once a focus on girl power, love and friendship slowly being wiped away, causes my eyebrows to be raised. Short changing the importance of both JT and Tess to our heroes, now that's where I start to get worried. But I have faith and patience so I'm willing to let it play out with a smile (some red wine, maybe a mind eraser or two) for as long as it takes. Stay strong, stay united and believe. Thanks as always for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

  32. Hi Irene, great comment and it is good to see another Swede loving this show. I am absolutely obsessed with this show. It is unexpectedly good mainly because of Jay Ryan´s fabulous acting. I live in Stockholm.
I love you Lilith, your website and fun reviews are excellent. To have something to do until January 2014 I am posting and reading on the IMBd website board for Beauty and the Beast. I recommend it. It would be fun to see you there, Irene. Here is the adress: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2193041/board/threads/?licb=0.9661055032227352&licb=0.514443947365292

I love this review and I loved this last episode although I had a lot of mixed feelings. I want Vincat to be back together again but I believe that this breakup is much needed. I do not like the idea of Cat with Gabe but maybe it is a good thing that she is going to focus a little bit on herself for a change and maybe Gabe can help her do that. I hate the idea of Vincent with Tori ...I do not know exactly why ....I think Tori is bad news not only for Vincat but especially for Vincent himself. I had a few WTF moments and you described them well if I might say so...The hiatus of 7 weeks is too long but we will survive. I hope we will get some photos, press releases and sneak peaks to keep us going to 13th January

  34. Good review and I am with you on lot of the characters and even the state of VinCat (what???!!)! I know I was really glad to see “the VinCat saga” over considering how much they have exhausted me and that a lot of the sentiments of VinCat were kind of tarnished. But after our discussion while
taping the podcast you got me thinking and went and watched Man or Beast again couple of times and I must say I do see the hope you were talking about. So I am just temporarily discouraged but full of hope.
NOW with that being said I think you were too generous to the least likable character on BATB right now: my beloved Vincent. He is a beast in true sense of the word and by that I mean with no human ability to think – now is that harsh? - yes, well deserved – heck yes! They really need to revamp the character that stood for something. I don’t care if they have a new direction, I don’t want my show to
have a lead character that is weak! Physical strength is nothing if you do not have some kind of convections. I would have been happy if he stood up to either Cat or Tori. Yes am glad he finally got mad but he joined a hate party. He needs to stand for something and have some honor in his choice whether he chooses Cat or not. How can he be excited at the prospect of having a second chance with Catherine one second and cause a car crash and not take a second to check on her the next? Too much time wasted on him!

Cat shooting Vincent – mad respect for you girl you are my hero. Doing the right thing is always easier said than done…how many of us could have taken that shot or live regretting not taking the shot?

Gabe has redeemed himself for all shitty things in season 1. Now who knows how I feel by the end of season two. But the mid-season finale was his coming out as a hero party! I had fun watching it!

Tess- glad you are back girl!! Now JT they really need to give him better storyline than Tess’s geeky sidekick. He deserves better and Austin deserves better!

Tori is fun to watch and crazy as hell but I am loving her!!! With that said I will not miss her when she’s gone.

I love your message about kindly disagreeing because:
    1. The show is not real but we are
    2. We all love the show, writers, cast, crew and fans so let’s not bring hate talking about something we love.
Now vote as you listen to our podcast, rate it and let us know what you think!

  35. there's my girl! Thanks @Luli M. for joining the party. To be honest here, every time I rewatch this episode, I feel a different way. Agreed as always about JT/Austin. Gabe got a redemption arc or so it seems so Vincent is obviously going to have one. Or at least he better.

  37. There's something badly wrong when fans stop rooting for the Beauty & the Beast on a show called Beauty & the Beast .

  38. At closer look Lilith, I liked your earlier reviews better. You gave an insightful summary of the epiosode which was useful as the episodes are sometimes alike and tended to get mixed up. Describing as you d here what happens to each character makes for more repetition since they often work together. So please go back to what you used to do, in 201 - 206, describing the events in more or less chronological order AND with your sometimes scathing and always clearheaded comments.

  39. I like the idea of the She Beast sticking around but Vincent will have to tame her. The show needs to be more than just VinCat getting back together again, which they will eventually do. I'd like to see some well written crime fighting, not in a procedural or freak of the week way but more like "Persons of Interest". I'm still holding out for the clone theory, I've never heard the missing scar explained. By the way, what's wrong with Fishnet? :) Thanks for the review.

BECAUSE IF IT WAS TWITTER BY THEM IT DEFINITELY WAS NOT GOOD NEWS, THEY PRACTICALLY WOULD BE SAYING THAT THEY MAYBE WOULD HAVE SEX WITHOUT KISSES.THANKS FOR SOME ANSWER

  41. Lilith, your words of wisdom are always appreciated. I agree and agree to disagree with all comments from everyone. I have been a Beauty and the Beast diehard fan since the original series and am in this journey to the end. In the interviews given by Jay and Kristin this year, the main theme was how excited they were to take the show into a new direction, having Vin/Cat earn their love. I've often wondered if they knew what a 360 the show would take by the end of ep 8 and if so, then I will bow to their excitement as well. I agree that the Amber/Tori hate is hurtful and uncalled for by anyone in this fandom. We just need to send her #Beastie hugs for doing her job so well! We've been assured that there will not be a love triangle with them, but a lust triangle? I think it's a hero-worship complex and am curious how it will be played to bid her farewell! About Cat/Gabe, I think she is not in a place for a romantic connection, just a comforting one and they still have to deal with Bad Bob cause I don't trust his "I did it all for you" mantra! Is Vincent a victim? Yes, to a degree, but his choice is a lonely one! I believe one of Vincent's "oh s_ _ t" moments is when the "shot heard round the world" happened! The look on his face of disbelief and on Cat's, "I had to, but I love you", was the jaw-dropping moment for me! I think another Vincent "oh s _ _t" moment will be when the Vince look-a-like, Sam, will show up. If he is Cat's triangle, then maybe this will push the last piece of humanity buried deep inside Vincent to exorcise the darkness and KICK him into action to win back his lady love forever! Will there be more JT&T aww moments? As friends for sure since I think there is too much happening to go there romantically! Forgive this Brad Kern comment if it steps on anyone's toes, but he was the frontrunner for Charmed and Lois & Clark, two shows that I also watched faithfully, but let's face it, there were many more seasons that he could play with and fix accordingly. With our beloved BATB this is our Season 2.0 and he is playing with roulette! There has been a drop in viewers and the ratings are in the CRITICAL INTENSIVE CARE ward right now so he needs to WOO viewers back or our Season 3.0 may not happen. I am so on board with voting, campaigning and doing whatever it takes to make that happen, but we only have a few more days to vote BATB #scifitv and Kristin Kreuk #scifiactress #PeoplesChoice to win and 14 more ep. to watch! The horrible hiatus, LOL, will be less painful when we think positive thoughts that all will be right in our BATB world with patience, love, understanding and lots of #Beasties "hand holding"! Thanks again so much Lilith XO

  42. To be honest, i am really quite displeased with this new season, there is really no conviction that is being held on it on an individual basis, i.e. Vincent is quavering between being a controlled assassin, and being strong enough to do the right thing, remember in season 1, Vincent total purpose was to retain his humanity where he could openly do some good with it. His conviction was to always help people. This new Vincent is all about killing his own kind, but we barely see him stop to help those who need assistance of some kind. Catherine loved that Vincent, whose humane side chose to help. now we all have 2 sides, our humane side and our ugly inhumane side, but we make a choice to choose one over the other or at hold true to the side that does not purposely hurt those around us. Vincent is all about killing beasts and damn who gets in his way. As for Catherine, i think she needs to come to terms with fact that her former Vincent is lost for the moment, and only this Vincent can bring him out if he so chooses and that is by embracing the humane side and not getting lost in his mission to kill, we are all damaged in some form of the other but you have to be strong enough to grow from it and learn whats right and wrong instead of cuddling your hurt and pain. (easier said than done) however, there is no other way to grow and get to know and understand oneself.
I do believe that Vincent should get his memories back, so that in conjunction with his new emotional self, he will have no excuse about knowing what it takes to be humane, and the choice he makes will be one with all the necessary knowledge sitting right in front of him like a buffet of food. i.e. what tastes great, absolutely divine and makes your insides come alive?, what is good for you regardless of how it tastes, what is absolutely sour? etc...

Catherine needs a break, she has helped Vincent as much as she can at this point and now it has to be about her, and those that are there for her and want the best for her. Catherine should know that Vincent will never find anyone that will ever love him like she did, and that should let her know that she is also worthy of being loved just as much. In season 1 Vincent knew how much she sacrificed for him and never failed to let her know that he knew and would willingly sacrifice himself if that meant protecting her so that she would always have an opportunity for a life without him. Catherine should take some time off, and focus on recuperating mentally, physically and emotionally, so that Vincent will not easily uproot her again, and she can withstand his behaviour and any manipulation he may throw her way, for e.g. needing her to help him with his memories. Vincent be a man and try to work through it on your own. Most importantly he also needs to come face to face with JT's brutal honesty each day!!!!

  45. Most curious of this episode for me is like cat is capable of sending Vincent to find a man and you tried to kill twice with bombs and usually carrying off a vest bomb, unblinking, almost without giving importacia, but on the other hand what worries when Gabe is jeopardized, it's funny that hechan eyes lol.

Well that does not matter because she clearly says that the life of Vincent bale less than that of the murderer of his father (twice) and of course that of his friend nuebo better future boyfriend (Gabe).

Anyway this devido not go through that apparently you just you look at the bad things vincent and tori, while the whole bit that bring cat and Gabe bemos of as normal, at last, to Alcabes girl does not like to have aa two handsome men, men pining for her, as have problems with one another lol consoles.

And no boy into what did Gabe last year that killed peronas to hunt vincent, as kidnapping a cat to catch kill vincent cut into pieces to put them on.

This simple fact dismantled all arguments cat this season about all the bad things you do cuelquier character and especially Vincent (as she can give speeches morality from anyone if the second episode of the season sponsoring the murderer of gabe ) is a well of surreal
