  1. That was an interesting argument. It's one that never has any reassuring answers. Oh, and there's no way Coulson new about the lack of an extraction for his team members.

I love the fact that they are slowly shifting towards the shield we see in The Winter Soldier trailer.

Its called "AGENTS of Shield" instead of "SHIELD" for a reason - because its specifically about this team. This team are the "good guys" - SHIELD does not have to be "good guys", nor people we should like. Its those average-joes stuck within that horrible machine that we care about and understand.

One of the most one of the most interesting aspects of the show is the reactions of those agents to outside factors, as well as to SHIELD. Seeing Coulson's little illusion of SHIELD fall down slowly, seeing the darker side behind it all and how there are secrets kept from him and others is fascinating.

And considering what is going on in this episode and what is going on in TWS trailer, I would not be surprised if by near the end of the season, Coulson's team would go rogue from the rest of SHIELD - its quite clear that the show is showcasing that, not everyone in shield is fluffy-good-hearted-bureaucrat-Coulson and that the organization itself is dangerous and bathing in gray morality.

In a sense its quite reminiscent of Angel Season Five where the "good guys" team of Angel found themselves working in the organization of main villains and slowly realized how foolish they were to do so.

Also reminds me of Dollhouse premise - Coulson is "Adelle Dewitt" - telling you all about how great and needed and benevolent SHIELD is, only for that illusion to blow up in his face near the end of the season, as everything he said is getting slowly deconstructed.
