Sark all the way. He was both fun and bad which is my favorite kind of villain. I voted for Irina too because I love that character but I have trouble thinking of her as just a villain like Sloane or the others on the list. She's always been so much more complicated than just the bad guy in my mind. Same for Katya.
Unoriginal as I am, I picked the top 3 - Sloane, Irina and Sark. The first two were among the most complex, ruthless, brilliant, layered, and scary villains on television, and wonderfully played by their respective actors (well, except for that wretched series finale which I'm trying to block from my memory - what they did to Irina's character there is UNFORGIVABLE). And Sark was just so smooth, elegant and charismatic that you couldn't help liking him even though he was a stone-cold, remorseless murderer/terrorist. Anna Espinosa definitely gets a shout-out, though, if only because of 2 words. Gina. Torres.
Thanks! Yeah, I wanted to think of an original poll and Alias was my absolute favorite show back in the day. I'm actually rewatching it now, and while I'm not as thoroughly enamored with it as I was back in the day, I certainly have many fond memories of it.
And I still think Victor Garber was robbed of a freaking Emmy. Even more than Jennifer Garner and Ron Rifkin.
I loved Sloane in the first three seasons but he was always a full fledged villain, he overstayed his welcome in season 4. that was made obvious by the writers now having him become the head of the APO Sark on the other hand was always just a minion that was actually pretty fun to root for. His shifts of allegiances made him unpredictable and his sometimes shining trough humanity that was still pretty cruel (forcing Vaughn to stare at his deceased wifes body both showed Sark in a pretty human manner and still managed to have him be a d*ck).
Sark should've never been dowgraded to a recurring character after season 3 and should've stayed a main.
I agree about Sloane, he should've been killed off or gone to prison for good by the end of Season 3. As much as I loved the character earlier in the series (and Ron Rifkin's performance - man, was he brilliant), villain-type characters come with an expiration date. Nikita, for example, made a very wise decision in killing off Percy in the end of Season 2 - that way he went out with a bang, rather than slowly deteriorate. What's more, the way Sloane became "good" and then turned around and betrayed them over and over again in Seasons 3-5 got ridiculous. Neither the other characters nor the government should have been willing to trust him... yet they did, no matter how many times that ended up biting them in the rear end.
Sark and Sloan are two of the best villains ever on any series. And while they top my list, I think the villain that gave me nightmares was Dr. Lee. Something about dental torture I find profoundly disturbing!
Great poll!Made me realize that an Alias rewatch is in order..My votes go to Sark,Irina and Sloane,in that order.Sloane because, well,he was THE villain and Sark and Irina were basically my favorite characters(along with Jack). It was the first time I rooted for the bad guys. Not to come out on top, don't get me wrong.Just to not get caught or killed, cause they were such interesting characters. They could have used them way more in the last two seasons,in my opinion.I would have liked them to explore the relationship between these two as well. There was some history there and we never got to see it.When I was first watching it,perhaps because I was a lot younger,I was convinced that Sark was actually Irina's son.But maybe it would have been too much..:-P
1.JulianSark (although freelancer could be "anti-hero) 2.Irena DeRevko 3.Arvin Sloane 4. Katya DeRevko 5. .Lauren Reed 6. Kelly Payton 7. Gordan Dean 8.Elena DeRevko (although I think she was most evil) 9. Mckennas Cole
He totally needs to get a starring role, I'm actually surprised that they didn't promote him to regular status on Once Upon A Time. His character isn't going anywhere and certainly could help balancing out the number of villains (Rumple, Regina, Hook) against the heroes (Emma, Charming, Snow, Belle, Henry, Red, Archie)
Anders friggin rocks as an actor, he nailed every role I've seen him in so far
Sloane, Sark, Irina. I wasn't fond of the series finale and the almost cartoonish villains that Sloane and Irina became, esp. after showing them as being so multilayered and complex. Sloane was always a villain to me, but appeared more brilliant and methodical than what the series finale showed. I actually wanted Irina to be ultimately redeemed, perhaps dying to save her daughter, alongside papa Bristow.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Sark!
ReplyDeleteSark, my only vote. lol
ReplyDeleteSark! Great poll, I haven´t thought of Alias for a while.
ReplyDeleteSloane, Irnia, and Sark. Pretty much the holy trinity of the shows bad guys.
ReplyDeleteSark, Sloane and Kelly Peyton..

ReplyDeleteSark was the best, I wish David Anders had his own show he would be great leading a series.

I really liked it aswell, maybe it is time to rewatch?! I haven´t watched it in years. And it was great that you thought of a different poll.
ReplyDeleteSark! (I really want to call him Stark lol) I'm surprised David Anders doesn't have a starring role, he has earned it - what is he upto these days?
ReplyDeleteHe reoccurs on OUAT and before that Vampire Diaries but really he needs his own show!

Sark. Hands down. So menacing and charming. And cold-blooded! I still remember his gleeful smile as he was shooting Vaughn in that stairwell.
