  1. nothing really, i watch a show for the show itself. the online community is something separate and if its a good community thats just an added bonus. if you don't like the fanbase, stay offline

    ReplyDelete
  2. Yeah, I agree. Fandom can - and usually does - improve my experience as a viewer but never the opposite.

    ReplyDelete
  3. How I Met Your Mother by far. Try - just try - to say you liked Robin and Ted better than any other girl, and they'll happily banish you from their lives. Seriously, never seen any other show with that kind of extreme fandom. That (and I don't find the humor funny) is why I don't watch HIMYM.

    ReplyDelete
  4. have you seen the tvd fandom like really

    ReplyDelete
  5. Haha, I haven't been paying attention to that show, so I don't know what their fanbase is like.

    ReplyDelete
  6. i voted GOT and TRUE BLOOD because the fandom of the tv series think they come first, before the one that read all the books of both series.
Also i got off these shows because they are totally different from the book series and that is a shame, really

    ReplyDelete
  7. Even though I'm part of the tvd fandom, there are alot of tvd fans that could only be described as a little... extreme its just disgusting to be a part of TVD fandom sometimes but a fandom shouldn't put you off a tv show

    ReplyDelete
  8. "If you don't like the fanbase, stay offline" Why? I have just as much right to be online as they do.

I almost belong to every fandom but i hv to say that supernatural 's the best fandom....!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I voted Castle... sometimes this fandom believes in every spoilers, they're afraid Castle and Beckett could break up in every moment when there's an obstacle. Especially if there's a new male\female guest star who may come between Castle and Beckett.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I never been put off by a show because of fandom but fandom can damper my experience. I stopped watching SPN after S6 for many reasons including the constant ship and character wars which just drained all life from fandom which is meant to be fun!

    ReplyDelete
  12. trust me himym fandom seem like Jesus compared to tvd its not that bad haha it's become an overwhelming amount of himym fandom are barney/robin shippers (myself included) but I try to extract myself from that area of the fandom if you know what i mean

    ReplyDelete
  13. the TVD fandom. the show was pretty easy to watch until i 'liked' all those pages and saw the DE/SE fights and all the OTP fights. all i can think of tvd now is 'oh that's a teenage love show'. not really my type at all. left watching TVD after season 2.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I watch a TV show because of the story and a fandom never stop me from watching and enjoying a show , and most of the time i don't agree with the fandom opinion but i keep watching the show !

  15. Thunder_Road_Rock8 October 2013 at 11:18

I totally agree with you...I think it's a bit (a lot) foolish If you don't watch a TV show because of the fandom...I don't think someone should deprive itself to watch a potentially good show because of that...-_-'...If you don't want to read/see the passion of the others for a show, good for you...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I vote Supernatural mostly because I stopped watching the show due to the treatment of female characters on it, which is an issue I place a large part of the blame for on *certain parts* (an important distinction, I don't blame all of them) of the fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  17. This is one poll i won't mind Castle winning.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I might be part of a different Castle fandom, though some fans get a bit antsy about the relationship most people I speak to have utmost faith in Andrew Marlowe and that he will give us what we want even if he goes about it in ways we don't always like. I think those that panic are potentially people who don't read all the spoilers as there are always clues that things will be alright.

I don't follow many fandoms that I'm not a part of but I would hate any fandom that fights over whose opinion is correct and do not see other points of view. It might not put me off the show but I would definitely stop visiting fan/spoiler pages for the show.

    ReplyDelete
  19. i guess you shouldnt stop watching SPN because of that. i have had many fights with a hundred people about liking Sam. hell, i love the brothers equally, but the anti-Sam fans shunned me and hurled abuses at me. i kept going. i aint going to quit because they dont like Sam. and as far as Destiel/Wincest is concerned, i dont give a damn. the show is about family. not based on fan-fic love triangles. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I've never really had a show spoiled for me by a fandom. I've watched shows and tried the fandoms and found them not to my taste, but in those cases I've just stayed away and continued to enjoy the show on its own merits.

    ReplyDelete
  21. yes, the misogyny on the show gets on my nerves sometimes. and that is mainly because of the fandom. They never accept any female, badass character on the show. i think the only reason they accepted Charlie because she is a lesbian. and many still don't.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I voted for Other and my answer is none, cause it has never happened to me and I will not let it happen.
Being part of a fandom is amazing and it adds to the whole experience. The minute the effect is negative just walk away. Not watching a show I enjoy because of something I can easily avoid makes no sense to me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Fandom was just one of the many reasons I stopped watching mostly I was unhappy with the plotlines and treatment of non Winchester characters but having fans constantly attack one and other didn't fuel my love!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I voted for Beauty and the Beast only, because on SpoilerTV, I am really tired of fans of the show commenting on various articles asking others to watch the show.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Supernatural is by far my favourite show. Although these fans didn't put me off of the show all together, Destiel shippers did put me off of Castiel for a long time. It was so bad at one point that I used to dread epsisodes that featured Cas heavily in them because I knew every look he gave Dean would be analysed and then rammed down my throat telling me it was an "after sex look" or something. I even received death threats, for saying something so simple as "Why are you guys saying their relationship is canon, did I miss an episode or something?". The hate they used to send me was overwhelming to be honest. I was even called homophobic for just stating that I don't think that they are in a relationship, and a look is just a look. I did not being called that. Although I am one of the rare breed members of Supernatural fandom that is the straight male, I would have no problem with those characters being in a relationship if either of them were actually gay, but they aren't. I'm sure that there are perfectly polite and nice Destiel shippers out there, it's just unfortunate that my experience has only been with the crazy ones which led me to believe most of them are crazy. Anyway, I had to stop engaging with the fandom because of this. Sorry for the rant. If anyone got this far have a cookie. You deserve it ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think fandom is a great thing, and it has never put me off. I have to laugh a little when people get all worked up because of something that happend (or didn´t happen) on a show. But in the end it is just because they care so much. Actually the big discussion on this site regarding Dean/Castiel almost made me want to watch Supernatural again.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I fucking loved Bella. It annoys me that they had to scrap more plans for her (I think I read something about that), because some of the female fans got all pissy about her.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, but that would never happen if you had watched it. The show is fantastic, and more people need to realize it! So, you know, watch it! OK? Do it now, go watch it now! DO IT! DO IT!!!!

(I don't even watch the show myself, just had to use this opportunity :P)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Heh, thanks for the cookie. :P And i feel your pain - in such fandoms you need to work hard to find a little niche group that has similar likes, which can be difficult as they are often less vocal. I have similar issues when a fandom refers too much to the actors rather than the characters - it's the characters I am interested in, not the actors. I appreciate the actors tremendously, but it's the characters i love.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I chose Beauty and the Beast, The Walking Dead and The Big Bang Theory.

    ReplyDelete
  31. My gripe is less for any one show's fandom, but any fandom that thinks their shows actors are something more than they actually are.

Not every actor is is a great actor, nor do they need to be. Some actors can be on cruise control and kill a certain role because it is close to their own personality or designed around the actor. A character can be great without a great actor in the role. Why can some people not accept that?

    ReplyDelete
  32. None, I have stopped going to several web sites because of the fandom, but have not stopped watching a show because of it. Have stopped because of some characters on a show because those you have to see. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree. I voted Castle as well :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. i meant that in regards to the show. if you're considering not watching a show because you don't like the fandom, just ignore the fandom online

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOL, I agree with you, but I just stay out of those comments, they are not going to change my mind or me them..I love the FRIENDSHIP between these two. Looking forward to my favorite show tonight after a very loooooonnnng wait. SPN all the way.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Castle, Supernatural and TVD. I never watched them. I did try Castle once and I enjoyed it, but I just don't get what the hysteria is all about ;)
I do watch OUAT and I didn't vote for them, but those fans get really annoying with their ships. Especially on STV, you get several dislikes for a comment, which didn't even state an opinion, just because you don't ship Swan Queen. It wouldn't even bother me if it were a couple with a real chance, but it is not.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I liked Bella, but Jo was my favorite and I would have loved for Sam and Sarah to be together.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anyone, altough some can be pretty annoying:(
But I check a show to see If I like it, and if so I keep watching for the show itself, nothing else:)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yesss! Cannot wait haha.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am just leaving this poll alone, like WTF??????

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ana Flávia da Cruz8 October 2013 at 12:19

But the thing is we shouldn't need to be cautious in our comments on fear of being treated like Ross did. He wasn't disrespectful at all! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and no psycho fangirl should be allowed to disrespect that.
I quit Supernatural a few seasons ago because of the plotline, but I gotta say I never made friends on SPN fandoms because I don't think there is any homosexual canon relationship on the show, and also because I actually LIKE Sam, and nobody seems to be cool with that. I'm glad I found you guys, who are kind enough to even offer cookies. Thanks! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think this poll was directed at Castle. . It's a nice show but not a great show

    ReplyDelete
  43. Castle and The Beauty and the beast.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree I love their friendship and do think they have strong bond but more of a family/brotherly love. I think some of the fans get a little carried away but I wouldnever stop watching. Super excited about tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Other - Sherlock.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am surprised that Castle is winning this poll and am interested in why. I watch the show and enjoy it, but have never been to a Castle web site, are the fans really bad? Inquiring minds want to know. lol

    ReplyDelete
  47. Gossip Girl, SPN, TVD, OUAT, BATB. There are plenty of shows I love that I'm not part of the fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Supernatural - because of how rabidly anti-women much of that fandom is. Even people who I am friends with when they are in the online community for other shows seem to lose it for some reason when it comes to women & that show. :/
NCIS - I'm surprised this wasn't in the polls. I actually first withdrew from the online community for NCIS because they were so negative & hostile. Eventually ended up not watching the show anymore just because of how nasty many of the fans were about their chosen pairing - you basically couldn't escape it if you tried to follow the show. (They even went after the actress' & actors' & their families...sending nasty messages, threats, etc.) Those of us who prefer friendships among coworkers were viciously attacked by the fandom - such a bad experience it ended up ruining my enjoyment of the show pretty quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  49. And fans like you think they come first because they have read the books, an adaption doesen't necessarily have to be 1:1 like the source material.
I'm sure you belong to those that are pissed about Bill getting more screentime than Eric.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Some fans can be really immature, whinny and indelicate to say the least. But the majority are sweet, funny and witty.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Agreed about the greatness of certain actors, the majority of network stars are OK and work with what they are given pretty well but I couldn't imagine them tackling something like a Oscar type drama. There is nothing wrong with that but yeah some actors really shine, others don't.

    ReplyDelete

oh my God !!! Beauty and the Beast ... season 2 premiere was AMAZING !!! I couldn't believe it !!! ...for the ones of you who haven't seen it yet ....you should definetely do ...so different !!! ( in the best way I could mean it ) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  53. OMG I hate you so much right now!!!!!!....... JOKING! I really am.But that is exactly what they do that makes me what to strangle some people (no,most) BATB fanatics! It drives me crazy when people try to shove something don't your throat...

    ReplyDelete
  54. Really Spoiler TV? you jumped the bar with this one. Who post this? So your putting our level of intelligence to whether we like a show or not because of a fandom, Really? I like a show because I like my "own personal choice" period.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hahaha, that's what I was going for. Seems the joke was in good taste as well, got more likes than I anticipated, which is always very nice here on SpoilerTV! :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Reactions like yours about NCIS are what this poll is all about. Stuff like that are reasons why I dislike some fandoms. Hating on other fans is not nice and not what fandoms should be about.
People are not 'boycotting' the show, they just don't want to watch it anymore (me included). No hard feeling about the writers, producers, actors or directors, but I can't watch s.th. I have no fun watching anymore. Don't I have the freedom to do that? Imagine you fav character from your fav show leaves. That's how some feel.

    ReplyDelete
  57. LOL you guys! the sad part for you, we still gonna hang around as many CW fandoms have, low rating show running for so long, inexplicable!!! huh! (fandoms)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Shows on the CW (crappy low budget teen network) have annoying fans.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I LOL at this, just someone trying to fill some internet posting space!!!! WTF!!!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  60. If David Caruso from CSI: Miami had left the show, I would literally have no reason to watch it. Seriously, he was my only reason. I completely understand the fans that leave because of her absense. I also feel the same way about Angus T. Jones leaving Two and a Half Men. I would still be watching it if he was on the show, but after Charlie Sheen, I only watched for Jake.

    ReplyDelete
  61. LOL love this! ;0)

    ReplyDelete
  62. oh you will be shocked to see that most of these shows have no teen fanbases.....

    ReplyDelete
  63. That escalated quickly. I don't think it was meant as a question of our intelligence, but merely a question if there is a show that we avoid because of excessive fandom, and from seeing these answers, it seems to be a valid question for many.

    ReplyDelete
  64. its a user poll on spoiler tv, chose by spoiler tv randomly....just think its a waste of space since FANDOMS ARE ALL annoying, thats why the word is a derivative of fanatics (obsessive much) but thinking you will turn down a show because of its fans is just polling on how stupid are you to drop a great show because of its fans!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. @Claudia Keller What part of "User Submitted Poll" don't you understand?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Watch out, we got a hater over here!

    ReplyDelete
  67. @Claudia Keller Then just ignore it. No one is forcing your to read/comment on a poll?

    ReplyDelete
  68. The Fringe fanbase, especially the Peter haters, put me off fringe for good.

    ReplyDelete
  69. @Claudia Keller If it's such a "waste of space" why have you posted 6 comments on it? But you only posted 1 comment on the What did you think of BATB post. Are you implying that that BATB is 6 times more a waste of space?

    ReplyDelete
  70. You know what else is a waste of space? This entire comment from you. BURN! :P Who are you to judge if people don't want to watch a show because of its fandom? That's right, you are not in your place to judge anyone. Nobody is stupid for dropping a show because of excessive fans, it's a very legitimate reason for avoiding a show.

    ReplyDelete
  71. The amount of sarcasm is too damn high! :P

    ReplyDelete
  72. Despoina Lampridou8 October 2013 at 13:34

hahahhahahaa lol ;) ;) trust me it's not ! ;) ;) you should check the episode first and you'll understand what I'm talking about sweetie ;) ;) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh, calm down for fucks sake! Let the people ask what they want!

    ReplyDelete
  74. wow, and they call it sarcasm....okkkk! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Despoina Lampridou8 October 2013 at 13:36

    hahahahahah ;) ;) yeah

    ReplyDelete
  76. The Wire. I am going to let Peter Griffin tell you why

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zR-ZLGaSQ4I

    ReplyDelete
  77. Oh my God, it WASN'T sarcasm? o.O Kill it before it lays eggs!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Lost Girl. Personal causes can ruin a TV show.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I totally understand, although for me it started with some "minions" at conventions. I go to A LOT of conventions, about 4-5 a year since 2008, and at one convention I suddenly bumped into a group of fans that stood out. They weren't really fans of the show so much as fans of Misha. They would pass out cards telling people to "join them in their worship of the great one" or something like that. Then, the questions they would ask him kind of creeped me out... sort of "direct us master" questions... Misha plays with them in a very entertaining way, but they really bothered me with the single minded obsession. I really admire Misha, he is open and quite accomplished... but I love the show more and I started resenting the vocal and at times pushy adoration.

Then, the way they swarm... there is no other word for it... swarm some articles here... It isn't enough to make me stop watching the show, but I have practically given up the online fandom to avoid them. I don't want to spoil their fun, but they sure are spoiling mine.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I have to go with Supernatural.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Supernatural. I love the show, but you'll find no other fandom with such abundance of scum.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I huge part of Supernatural is 40plus...

    ReplyDelete
  83. Its not surprising that the top 2 shows on in the poll will probably be the top 2 shows in the favourite show competition.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah I could care less about the fandom. If they're great, great. If they're not I just don't let it bother me.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Some people don't know when they've gone too far. It does suck that our fun gets ruined so they can run wild.

    ReplyDelete
  86. That is funny, Caruso is the reason I STOPPED watching the show.

    ReplyDelete
  87. " I gotta say I never made friends on SPN fandoms because I don't think there is any homosexual canon relationship on the show, and also because I actually LIKE Sam, and nobody seems to be cool with that."

I'm a Dean girl (if I have to be labeled), I like Cas, but this does not stop me from caring about Sam.

I've made a few Supernatural fan friends online. We met on the CW lounge and kept up. Two of the three are Sam girls. One of which who is my best friend online. We talk on email and Skype sometimes about general life - not just the show.

So not all SPN fans are like this.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I am 75 and watch most of the CW shows with Supernatural being my favorite of any TV show and have many friend 50 and older that also watch.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yeah, I watch Beauty and the Beast but would not go on random articles to tell people to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  90. And the Elena bashing. Don't get how people can watch a show were they hate the main character. Though I have to admit I did too when Elena had her emotions off.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Other - none of them. I question your motivation in starting this poll.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I bet you haven't even seriously tried any of the decent shows.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yeah the big fanbases are usually the ones with the most extreme fans.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Guess you can find jerks on line for all shows. Ha, I see SPN is now leading.

    ReplyDelete
  95. The Castle fandom -- at least the social media and the discussion board -- not a teaser or a spoiler goes buy that you don't see someone complaining about something related to the show. And when I say complaining, I mean the silly complaints --- like the lack of sneak peeks, for almost a month I regular saw people complaining about the official poster. When the promotional photos came out, people complained about them being photoshopped. And there's the fans who get all anxious when they see "struggles for Caskett" and immediately thing they're going to break up. I've pulled away slightly from the social media realm because I had my fill of a handful of fans complaining about unimportant stuff. Don't even get me started on the stuff that shows up on the message boards---over the summer the official board was full of people making vague threats towards the cast and crew about the direction of the show. And that's not a fandom I want to be a part of. I wish some of those folks could take a step back and look at some of the silly and hurtful things they wrote.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Understandable, and a lot of people did. But there was still a passionate, quiet fanbase that watched week to week and made it successful all around the globe.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Fandom, at least to me, can be a double-edged sword. I was very happy to see the efforts of fellow fans make SPN a very vocal and prominent fanbase that was able to manage all sorts of endeavors...but there's this deep-seated issue I have with how that same fanbase (er, certain aspects of that fanbase) can affect the show (and how the people that are involved with writing the show seem to pander to those aspects) that have led to seasons' worth of shipping wars, horrible treatment of female characters (they all get killed off unless there's no threat of them becoming a love interest for one of the characters) as well as infighting that has often derailed online posts, etc. Around season 6 I just mentally checked out of the "fandom" and watched the show, occasionally I will poke around STV for opinions on the new episodes but It's meant less pointless drama in my life.

I don't want to put anyone down in this. I don't mind shipping or people's personal opinions and their well-written fan fics, etc. but sometimes I just can't deal with all the craziness.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Jennifer Renee Beatley8 October 2013 at 14:52

    Glee

    ReplyDelete
  99. Arrow fans tend not to be annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  100. What part of "random" don't you get?

    ReplyDelete
  101. I agree. I actually love the show and the characters but sometimes, I just want to slap the fandom. It doesn't stop me from watching though.

    ReplyDelete
  102. This is what I am talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Despoina Lampridou8 October 2013 at 15:02

    did you see it ? ;) :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. You are one of the sane BATB fans.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I think some people don't even read the subject of the polls anymore, they just see a poll and vote for their show

    ReplyDelete
  106. I generally quit on the forum reather than the show in which the fandom sounds...questionable. There are plenty media outlets out there for me to interact without having to quit on a show for it.

If I don't like what I read, I never read the site again. But only if I don't like what I see I quit on a show. And not a moment before.

    ReplyDelete
  107. True Blood perhaps (its supposed to be based on romace novels, isn't it?), but from what I've heard Game of Thrones is just like the books as Sherlock is.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Same here! I love the show, despite some part of the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  109. You are absolutely right. Some people must have a very, very bad life, that they go online to go to a fanbase they don´t like and hate around.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Well, I start watching the show, because I'm interested in the plot, character, actors and creators. BUT...

Sometimes, when I'm not sure about these things and I'm just considering watching, the fandom CAN make me run in the other direction. Like with BatB. I had some awful interactions with the show's fans and they discouraged me from watching. Very effectively.

And then there are the shows I'm already watching and really enjoying them (like Supernatural and OUAT). And their fans. Some of them just can be very obsessive and incredibly rude toward the others and I can't even calmly talk with anyone about the show without being insulted, so... Right now, I'm trying to avoid most of the coversations about those shows, not expressing my opinions on things just to stay calm and positive. I don't quit watching because of the fans, when I actually like the show, but sometimes I feel like taking a break from it. And unfortunately, sometimes fans manage to make me lose a lot of sympathy for the characters I used to think were pretty good (read Castiel on SPN).

And that just seems sad, to be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Supernatural for sure. I watch and love the show, but am not a part of the fandom. I also voted for The Vampire Diaries, I watch the show and am in the fandom with this one though. Not as bad as SPN because it's easier to find people who share your views.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Also, sadly, there are people who find "trolling" an awesome timewaster. They literally go to places they hate purely to spread hatred and to make people angry. It's one of the saddest things we have to deal with on the Internet because it helps absolutely no one and the only results it has are negative :/

    ReplyDelete
  113. Any CW show.

    ReplyDelete
  114. DarkForgottenLostEvil8.5Doctor8 October 2013 at 16:34

Though I love Once Upon A Time, the endless "shipping" on the part of its fans drives me insane. I really couldn't care less about most of the romantic aspects of the show, and I feel that there's so much more to it than that anyway. It doesn't cause me to want to stop watching Once, however.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Elena was better with her emotions off. You can also like a show without really liking the main character. I don't hate Elena, but I much prefer CAROLINE, Jeremy, Matt, Stefan, Bonnie and the originals (before they moved) more than her.

    ReplyDelete
  116. yes apparently fans hated Jo and Bella, and it's also the reason why Lisa's and Ben's memories were erased of Dean's existance.

    ReplyDelete
  117. That's exactly what i was talking about!

    ReplyDelete
  118. None! I certainly don't allow anyone to influence me what I should like and what not, especially not fanatic fans. Plus, every fandom has various kinds of fan, there is no reason to go to the same spot as the really fanatic ones.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I agree...some actors work in exactly one role. I also hate the "you have to love the show because xy actor is in it, or your have to love the role because xy actor is playing it". No matter how talented an actor is, there are always badly written shows or roles which can't be rescues by a good performance.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Castle is one of my favorite shows, but I can agree that a good section of the fandom is off putting. People tweet the lead actors of the show disgusting things, and there's constant arguing. It's a real shame because the show is underrated enough as is, even by its own network.

I wish I was strong enough not to be influenced, but as for me, I will never watch Supernatural no matter how much my friend tries to convince. And this is mainly due to the fandom, but there are other factors as well. The "major three" fandoms of tumblr - Supernatural, Sherlock, and Doctor Who - have the most obnoxious fans ever. They have huge superiority complexes because of their size, and if I wasn't already watching DW before I joined tumblr, I probably wouldn't have started. Supernatural shippers are scary, and their hatred of all the female characters is terrible. Not that there are many female characters to hate because every single one gets killed off.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I don't love Elena either and I do prefer some of the other characters, but some people want her dead. The fact they want the main character dead is...I don't know - weird. I've never wanted a main character dead in any show before.

  125. I noticed that SPN fandom is the most disliked? Well, there are a bunch of jerks out there who attack their own fandom and characters and I don't like them either. But, the SPN fandom majority protects their show and each other. We're family. And there is no other fandom out there that gives as much for charity or from themselves for charity. Just check the internet on them. We don't give a lot of gifts to the boys. They have charities they support. and that's what our gifts go for. Random Acts is an awesome give of yourself charity. How many shows have fans who went to Haiti and helped rebuild?

For me, I put three, but they are what I have seen online.

I watch a show because I love the show, the people and that's all. But the SPN fandom came by the People's Choice win honestly. They earned it.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Either I enjoy a show or not. It is that simple.
Somtimes it is fun to share and read what the fandoms post and if it gets annoying I just ignore it. My impression is that the most vocal fandoms at the moment are BatB, Lost Girl, SPN and Castle. But I think that is normal. Annoying is when preferences escalate to shipper wars in one fandome.

    ReplyDelete
  127. By far and long, Supernatural. That fanbase is rabid and will lash out at you for even a slight mention of not liking a particular character (Castiel). I also never knew about the weird Dean/Castiel fantasies until I read some online comments about the show. I still watch the show (although it is nowhere near as good as it used to be), but I try to stay away from public forums about it.

What is this POLL trying to do- crash TV shows, I think it's really negative?

    ReplyDelete
  129. looks at the votes and is relieved that BatB isn't #1 in this poll.

    ReplyDelete
  130. A fanbase would never prevent me from watching a show, but some of them are certainly very annoying, so it would mostly prevent me from commenting on blog posts like "What did you think of.."

    ReplyDelete
  131. Definitely Castle. I watched a few episodes and I honestly don't know what's all the fuss about. And they try to make Castle (character) charming and funny, but he's very annoying to me and not charming at all. Second, their fans are kinda annoying (no offense). Voting for Castle in every single poll just because you love the show but it's not necessary that it deserves to winn? C'mon.

    ReplyDelete
  132. The Big Bang Theory for me...I just don't get it... and I see how people act towards it and it turns me off. No offense to Big Bang Theory fans

    ReplyDelete
  133. Ha! I agree completely. I was reading some comments on Entertainment Weekly and I was astounded by the amount of people who dramatically threatened to quit watching because their favorite OUAT characters weren't getting together. Comments like those do not really come to my defense when my friends make fun of me for watching this show.

    ReplyDelete
  134. This, exactly. Not the entire fandom, but the "Destiel" fans are hard to argue with. I got some very bad comments in the past for not seeing Dean and Castiel as a couple, and it's something I don't have to put up with, not for a tv show, so I stopped reading comments and participating in some things, I just watch the show for entertainment, which, as you said, it's not as good as it used to be.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Hating on other fans? What? How was that hating?

And, yes, I have heard NCIS fans say that they will boycott the show now that Cote quit. Not saying that all fans think and/or say that, but some definitely do.

Yes, you have a freedom to do whatever you want. Just one question, how do you know that it is gonna be and/or continue to be s*hit? The writers may have though of some amazing new story lines for the show.

    ReplyDelete
  136. None, fandoms don't drive me away from shows, the show themselves do that depending on their quality

    ReplyDelete
  137. I dislike True Blood mostly, it's the Bill/Sookie ship. It irks me how he says "Sookie". That'd be the only reason aside from the show's obvious ridiculousness.

    ReplyDelete
  138. What has this comment to do with the subject at hand...?

    ReplyDelete
  139. This is what I was talking about. Some of the NCIS fans (not all of you, to clarify!) can/could go a little crazy when it came to Ziva and Tony. What I loved about the show had nothing to do with that, I used to watch that show because it was exiting and fun. But when you posted that you didn´t want those two as a couple... Wow.Hateful comments and down votes. Ruined it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  140. The fandom doesn't factor into whether I like a show or not. It's the show itself. The fandom may affect my online presence though. If it's a fandom that's illogical and doesn't tolerate differing opinions, even if the differing opinions are stated in a polite, courteous manner, then I won't even participate by commenting. I don't need that kind of crazy wasting my day.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Sherlock is a transposition, where GoT is an adaptation.

And a bad adaptation, if I can say, some characters are even more stupid in the show

    ReplyDelete
  142. Castle! Can it win this poll too...?

    ReplyDelete
  143. Fandom isn't even a consideration to whether or not I like/watch a show. I think we have all been on the internet long enough to know that trolls and assholes exist in every corner of it and the key is to just ignore them and go on loving what you love.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Neither GoT or Sherlock are like the novels. Not that that is a bad thing, I enjoy both versions of them and take them for what they are.

    ReplyDelete
  145. ha, just one of the things people do not like about these fans.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Agreed. I once even considered quitting the Internet (well, at least temporarily) because it was so annoying, but then I thought: If everyone does it there would only be haters and just think what media analysts would make out of that.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Wow, i guess the word "random" just went right over your head 'eh?

    ReplyDelete
  148. Castle and Supernatural for me. Even if this can't make me stop a show, there are a lot of things that bothers me.

I like watching Castle, but I can't stand all the fan stories which are done around it, and particularly on this website when people answers the polls with Castle things just cause it's Castle (I'll take the example of the most BAMF girl in a show, come on, people vote Beckett ? She's a friggin cop).

For SPN, I stopped watching during the 3rd or 4th season, but not because of the fandom, but because it was too much WTF and too much BS, too much chain resurrection which make us wonder why they are still afraid to die in the end of the day ...

But I think that a fandom can get pretty annoying, like every fandom, not only for a TV show, but also for a band (yeah, i'm talking about you, Directioners and Beliebers :) ) or for whatever can bring a fandom together.

We just need to keep in mind that it's entertaining, and not to feed the troll ^^

    ReplyDelete
  149. I love the show (might even call it obsessed, I even watch the reruns on TNT) but some of the "fans" actually frighten me they get into it so deeply! One would think that Castle and Beckett were actual people who live and breathe amongst us, rather than characters created out of someone's imagination. Every little thing is dissected and criticized in the most minute way. Every look, every vocal inflection, even every appearance/non-appearance "means something". Get a life people, it's a television show! It's as real as a fiction book! I understand differing opinions, I get it but can't you be civil when someone isn't of the same mind as you? Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now...

Teen Wolf - the "ship wars" is draining; I ship, in fact I am a Sterek fan, but it's sad to have other members of the fandom tell you that it's wrong to like the relationship between your characters. After last season especially, to the point where I don't want to watch the new episodes when the show returns...
I guess the same is true with Supernatural...those two have the strongest and most agressive fandom when it comes to shipping, it's very unfortunate.

    ReplyDelete
  151. InvestedInYourFuture8 October 2013 at 20:42

Hoo boy so many choices, so little time. Where to start?

There are moments when you are PROUD of following a great show. You love the cast, you love the theories and you want to commute with others and theorize and brainstorm and asfasdasfasdaf at all the awesomeness. You are proud at being a fan. And then you go on the internet and actually SEE the fandom you belong and you just feel...ashamed.

    Most notable examples right now:

Vampire Diaries fandom - That has to be one of the MOST toxic fandoms I have ever been a part of. It seems that through the years all the sensible people just moved away from the show(just as I did) and all that is left is a bunch of VERY rabid shippers that start hate wars and harass people over twitter for that. And the worst part is that writers themselves(mostly Julie Plec) FEED those people and ignite most of fights. Of course the people are starting to wise-up already on what became of the show, but if you said ANYTHING bad about the show back in S3 or S4, you better be prepared to withstand a volley after volley of ableist language and rage.

Supernatural fandom - hm, where to start? The entitlement the fandom has? the sexism? The threats towards the writers and actors? The outright hostility to every other fandom in existence(which especially comes up in certain online polls) ? Or is it the complete hypocrisy that comes from blaming other fandoms for the things they do? The show by now is a perfect mirror of the fandom itself - a mess. I was once proud to love that show, but by now I am kind of even ashamed to even say I belonged to that fandom, when it comes up - because people HONESTLY expect me to rage at them then.

Teen Wolf fandom - Now, I LOVE the show, despite its shortcomings, but hooboy is the fandom sexist. Every female character got a HUGE amount of hate towards them We had such a gems like BLAMING Lydia for Peter having used her in S2, not to mention the multiple cases of "die for our ship" happening. Not to mention the cases of fandom glorifying certain characters above all others (example being Peter being exempt in fandom's eyes for anything bad he did or some people refusing to acknowledge that very point of Derek's character storyline is that he is a bad leader). OH and then there's a certain crackship that has a very rabid and angry fanbase hating on everything and everyone who disagrees with them.

Haven fandom - That's a perfect example on how a ship can ruin the show and the fandom. All the gross stuff the above giant fandoms have? This little gem of a fandom can display it.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Grey's Anatomy, True Blood and Gossip Girl are the only 3 things I've never watched and will never. Bad Drama, Bad Mythology, Bad Drama. I don't care if there is lots of Fandom don't bother me.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I voted for two here, Castle and Supernatural, which are ironically two of my favorite shows. Castle frustrates me because a lot of people view it as perfection that can do no wrong, and a lot of "shippers" have ruined the boards for me. Naturally the show has a huge relationship component, but I don't base the quality of an episode on how many "cute Caskett moments" were in it. I don't even look at the pages here anymore.

Supernatural, on the other hand, frustrates me because fans are too hyper-critical. I get it, because when you love a show it's hard not to be super invested, but over the years the fans seem to have become divided into "Sam girls" and "Dean girls" who whine when one brother is featured more than the other in an episode's promo. I'm one of those people who thinks it's okay to love Dean, Sam, and yes, Castiel, and while I do believe that some story lines and episodes are better than others (Bugs should be forgotten altogether), I try not to hate on my show. I want to shake some people and ask why they bother watching anymore if every new season is "the worst" and they "should have stopped watching after season 5".

    ReplyDelete
  154. This x1000. Coming from a fan of the show, no less haha

    ReplyDelete
  155. Castle. I don't hate the show, but sometimes the fandom is annoying (MY opinion)

    ReplyDelete
  156. I went for Beauty and the Beast and Castle, although I generally dislike any large rabid fanbase that can't seem to accept that not everyone likes their show - it makes me want to watch the show even less when there are people angrily demanding you watch all the time.

But moreso, I chose these two in particular, because sometimes, no matter what the subject of the post (a poll, for example, that doesn't list one of these shows as an option for the 'best TV series ever'), there are usually arrogant fans that are outraged that the show hasn't been mentioned. And they never seem to read the other many comments about the exact same thing! This becomes so that the original point of the post, usually a poll, is somewhat lost.

I wouldn't not watch a show because of a few showponies lol. I generally like the fandom in all the shows that I do watch. Because I had to vote I went for Beauty and The Beast, I would of voted for others but half of these are finished anyway. The fandom especially the over-enthusiastic ones didn't put me off but it reminded me how their taste is different from mine.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Hate to be the one to say it, but Sterek probably won't happen. I'm not saying it's wrong, but it won't happen.Very astute observation though about teen wolf and Supernatural's shipping. It's really irritating.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I really hate the Destiel crap.

    ReplyDelete
  160. The weird slash shipping is really annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  161. If I wasn't already a fan of tvd I would be completely turned off by its fans especially when it comes to "shipping". In fact they still kinda annoy me sometimes. And I know castle is another one with off putting fans but its the genre of the show that puts me off not the fans

    ReplyDelete
  162. The insistence that Regina the "Evil" Queen was a good guy was the end of it for me. The lousy writing didn't help.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Other - Any fandom where the conversation becomes primarily about shipping. There are so many things to talk about in a TV show that whenever a fandom turns everything into shipping with the annoying shipping names, it immediately turns me off. Shipping wars are even worse. I honestly do not care if Elena ends up with Stefan or Damian. Caskett is the worst part of Castle to me and the reason I dropped it last season. Chair versus Dair was mind-boggling in its fan contentiousness and I didn't even watch that show. It was so prevalent that I, as someone who never clicked on an article solely about Gossip Girl, couldn't even avoid it. That's a powerful fandom war. I still find very few people who try to convince people to watch Beauty and the Beast who do not make it all about the epic love story between the 2 leads. Since love stories never do anything for me, why would I try out that show again in an already crammed TV schedule? Sometimes I think shippers hurt shows more than they help because people cannot avoid it online and it gets frustrating. By the way, I also think Supernatural's fandom is the show's biggest asset and greatest enemy as well. The in-fighting is legion and I know people who have avoided the show simply because "those fans are nuts!" It's hard to disagree with their assessment when reading the comments on some threads. Supernatural fans are passionately arguing wthout ceasing until someone attacks the show/cast/crew, there is an award to be won, or there's a charity event within the fandom. Then they are one of the best fandoms around...until the next week.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I think you could substitute many other show names in for TVD to be honest. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  165. I usually prefer secondary characters to lead characters and several shows have lead characters that tend to annoy me even if I do not hate them. Still if I do hate the lead character, I do drop the show. I couldn't watch House because I couldn't stomach any scene with him in it although I found it interesting when he was off screen.

    ReplyDelete
  166. I'm a big fan of Bela but only in small doses. I think they needed to balance out who won in the Winchester-Bela exchanges more. If she didn't constantly make the brothers look inept for little good reason, I think the fans would have liked her a lot better. With Bela, I think it was less because she was female and more about how she made the brothers look.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Bwaaaahhhh! You win the comments section this week.

  168. You've got that right. Do you remember what happened when Jared's dog died a few years ago? Holee crap! I've never seen people go after one another like that except at a Bears/Packers game. AND NONE OF THEM KNEW JARED PERSONALLY.

    ReplyDelete
  169. And I just had a vision of Charlie with that stupid look on her face.

    ReplyDelete
  170. No one, at least no one who has commented so far, begrudges Beauty and the Beast their spot. The point was that constantly telling people to watch your show actually has the opposite effect on a lot of people. Perhaps less is best in this case. I really hope BatB does well because I've been in fandoms in similar situations and it's a horrible position to be in. however your comment won't win over any converts. I still maintain that telling people what they might like about a show is a far better way to get people to watch it than badgering them to watch constantly or insulting people in the comments.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Thank you! Wow, I'm honored! :D haha

    ReplyDelete
  172. For me it is the disporportionate amount of comments about Caskett compared to other things and characters. Not like that everywhere of course, but it does seem to be the main point of conversation on many threads. It turned me off the fandom and the producers going in that direction turned me off the show. However, I would suspect that the main reason why Castle is so close to the top (as well as Supernatural) is because people are tired of seeing it win almost every single poll here on SpoilerTV. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  173. This may not be the best thread to gush about the season premiere of BatB, since it is about the fandoms people find most annoying. I'm glad that you are excited about the premiere and I hope this season is great for you, but this is exactly what people were posting about earlier in regards to the BatB fandom. I would hate for your feelings to get hurt because you are passionate.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I actually find it a very interesting poll and as it has not become a flame war, I think this is a good way for people to vent about things in fandom that bug them. I'm sorry that you don't find it as fascinating as I do.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I think it is a misconception that all shows on the CW are equal. They really are not and some of them have a much higher fan age average than most people expect, especially Arrow, Supernatural, and Nikita. However, I am sure that you are right that they all have fans that annoy people....as all shows do.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Agreed and I think that is only going to get worse as the season progresses.

  178. We rarely agree on the points of a show, but I agree with most of your points about the fandoms. I especially think that Supernatural fans gave themselves a really bad name within other fandoms by being very sore winners about certain online polls. Sometimes I think it would have been better if the fandom were more humble about it a few years ago. I know people who wouldn't even try SPN because the fans were rude in an online poll against their favorite shows.

I would love to see a spin off where we see Ziva in her next adventure. I still hold out hope for some visits from our ninja on NCIS.

  193. I agree with you...I am a total Bela fan...i do believe the writers could have handled it a little bit by making sure Dean gets her back story...it could have been epic...Jo was awesome but she looked too young....Lisa was wrong because of the baggage...and i truly believe after everything Dean has been through, he needs someone who knows the dark/empty parts of his soul as well as the good in him and that is the reason i have shipped destiel since 'i am the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition'....in freudian terms, if there was ever an analysis of Dean's psyche, the conclusion would always be that, because of never being looked after and caring for someone else all his life, he craves someone who can look after him... That is the reason why the girls don't fit in, they just don't understand the hunter life even if they know about it... what the Winchester brothers have been through is just not normal/usual even for a badass hunter...
