Justified!! I LOVE that show. The cast is fantastic, even for the small characters, the dialog is amazing and ....well, Boyd Crowder is in it....need I say anymore?! And Banshee....that is a real action show, lots of action, fun, and a nice sexy vibe. And Orphan Black... I like that too.
I have loved SOA for so many seasons, but it ust got a little too dark and depressing for me.
Game of Thrones. There may not be a Blackwater Bay in every episode, or wedding of any colour (gods forbid), but if the listed shows count as action - then so does GoT. And it has my vote. Hands down.
definitely continuum and orphan black. the third option will have to be a tussle between graceland, defiance and longmire. also, if i were to have finished either the bridge or the americans (up to episode 6 and 8 respectively), those would've also been in the mix for best action series on cable as well.
I have a hard time really looking at many of the listed shows as "Action" series.
As far as real action-driven TV goes, I think Banshee and Strike Back are probably the two best series on cable. Every episode has intense action , drama and humor.
For more drama-based less action driven series I like Justified, Sons of Anarchy and of course Game of Thrones.
I love Longmire and Orphan Black, but I just cannot call them Action series at all honestly....
Would you recommend Banshee? Not that I have time to start another show now, but I have heard a lot of great stuff about that one. I have tried the pilot and even though I liked what I saw, it didn't feel innovative enough for me to stick around at the time, even though I thought it had potential if they were to be bold.
Without a shadow of a doubt it's Justified the cast is stellar and the writers are terrific. Some of the other shows are really good but are missing the mix of drama and comedy that Justified has in abundance.
I would try again maybe. It is only 10 episodes, so it will not take you too long to catch up when you do have time.
I found it to be one of the more original series in the last few years honestly. A lot of unique characters and unique plotlines. Some more common aspects too I guess, but by the season's end even those more routine aspects have evolved into something a bit different.
Did you watch the "Origins" webisodes? Each character had a prequel webisode between 1-minute and 3-minutes that showed a little back story and how that character fits into the season.
Looking at the results I get the feeling that people don't know what the word "action" means. Banshee and Strike Back are the ultimate action shows, almost non stop action. To the point where I'm on my feet ready to fight somebody after every episode. The shows on the list are good shows but the word action doesn't come to mind when I think of Orphan Black.
Burn Notice had by far the best action of all cable shows I've seen. I also voted for Graceland, which usually has at least one good action scene an episode, and Defiance, which when it does action scenes usually does a good job of it.
Cool, my second poll. Ok to give a Little transperancy to the listing, These were my criteria this time: Cable Shows, currently on TV (so no Burn Notice), sorry I dunno how I could skipp Covert Affairs but for these cases there is other. And since I don't watch all of them (actually only Strike Back, Banshee and Oprhan Black are on my to do list) I checked which Shows categorize themselfs as Action - this was indeed very interesting as you can see from the list.
Strike Back is better than many movies in the Cinema and it has a good writing in storyline and character development! What they did with Dalton so GRRM, but logical.
You have every right to include or not include any show in your polls. No one can watch all shows in a genre so it doesn't bother me when someone doesn't include a show I like. That's what Other is for. :-)
I would say "The Americans" for sure. It may not be purely an action show, but it's as much an action show as some of the others on this list, and absolutely great!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I voted for the two shows I watch out of this bunch which are falling skies and orphan black!
ReplyDeleteAction seems like the wrong genre for most of this shows - they have action scenes but when I think action I imagine movies like Die Hard.
ReplyDeleteAnyway voted for my favourite two shows on the list, Justified and Orphan Black. Justified did have that epic episode 'Decoy' which felt like a movie.
Covert Affairs, Orphan Black and Banshee for me.
ReplyDeleteStrike Back by far.
ReplyDeleteFrom this list: Orphan Black, Continuum, and Vikings.
ReplyDeleteOrphan Black, Continuum and Banshee for me, all 3 are unique with great casts, addictive story lines etc
ReplyDeleteJustified!! I LOVE that show. The cast is fantastic, even for the small characters, the dialog is amazing and ....well, Boyd Crowder is in it....need I say anymore?!
ReplyDeleteAnd Banshee....that is a real action show, lots of action, fun, and a nice sexy vibe.
And Orphan Black... I like that too.
I have loved SOA for so many seasons, but it ust got a little too dark and depressing for me.
The Americans doesn't count?
ReplyDeleteI voted fo Justified. Even whether it's just a few episodes thatactually fit the "action" label. haha
Falling Skies, Defiance and Gracelend. Graceland's opening season was aaamazing as was Defiance's
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones. There may not be a Blackwater Bay in every episode, or wedding of any colour (gods forbid), but if the listed shows count as action - then so does GoT. And it has my vote. Hands down.
ReplyDeleteJustified, Longmire & Cracked( Friday on Reelz)
ReplyDeleteOrphan Black!
ReplyDeletedefinitely continuum and orphan black. the third option will have to be a tussle between graceland, defiance and longmire. also, if i were to have finished either the bridge or the americans (up to episode 6 and 8 respectively), those would've also been in the mix for best action series on cable as well.

I forgot Cracked airs in the US now!
ReplyDeleteSlightly different from the usual Crime Drama. I like the psychological aspect of it a lot!
Best action series is Strike Back, undoubtedly.
ReplyDeleteI like how the series got its name..he's not broken, just cracked. lol
ReplyDeleteI chose Sons of Anarchy, Orphan Black and Justified.
ReplyDeleteThe only two I have seen on the list was Orphan Black and Continuum. I am not sure they are "action" series, although they can have action scenes.
ReplyDeleteOrphan Black, Sons of Anarchy and Justified!
ReplyDeleteWould you recommend Banshee? Not that I have time to start another show now, but I have heard a lot of great stuff about that one. I have tried the pilot and even though I liked what I saw, it didn't feel innovative enough for me to stick around at the time, even though I thought it had potential if they were to be bold.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't classify The Americans as action and I love the show. But then again, neither I would classify Orphan Black.
ReplyDeleteSons of Anarchy, Justified and Continuum (I swear on all three shows there is always at least one shootout).
ReplyDeleteMine was Burn Notice when it was on.
ReplyDeleteStrike Back most definitely. Banshee too. I'm not sure if Orphan Black belongs to the 'action' category, but I voted for it anyway.
ReplyDeleteWithout a shadow of a doubt it's Justified the cast is stellar and the writers are terrific. Some of the other shows are really good but are missing the mix of drama and comedy that Justified has in abundance.
ReplyDeleteContinuum, Orphan Black. Both are simply awesome.
ReplyDeleteSons of Anarchy
ReplyDeleteDefiance and Continuum for me.
ReplyDeleteOB, JUstified and Continuum
ReplyDeleteJustified has the best choreography of a gun fight. Both the dialog and the fight choreography are art forms within themselves. Sheer genius!!
ReplyDeleteI recommend Banshee. I watched the whole season on demand, and couldn't get enough.
ReplyDeleteI too would recommend Banshee. Great action show, fun, compelling characters,
ReplyDeleteI have to agree Justified has it all.
ReplyDeleteI would try again maybe.
ReplyDeleteIt is only 10 episodes, so it will not take you too long to catch up when you do have time.
I found it to be one of the more original series in the last few years honestly. A lot of unique characters and unique plotlines. Some more common aspects too I guess, but by the season's end even those more routine aspects have evolved into something a bit different.
Orphan Black is phenomenal, and Justified is entertaining. So those 2 in that order that I listed them.
ReplyDeleteDid you watch the "Origins" webisodes?
ReplyDeleteEach character had a prequel webisode between 1-minute and 3-minutes that showed a little back story and how that character fits into the season.
A love Longmire, too. I agree this isn't a good category for the show.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the results I get the feeling that people don't know what the word "action" means. Banshee and Strike Back are the ultimate action shows, almost non stop action. To the point where I'm on my feet ready to fight somebody after every episode. The shows on the list are good shows but the word action doesn't come to mind when I think of Orphan Black.
ReplyDeleteBanshee is like crack. Very easy to get addicted to it.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys. I will give it a try (next summer I guess) if I have the time!
ReplyDeleteContinuum and Orphan Black are my favorites on the list.
ReplyDeleteAgreed,i don't know how anyone would consider Longmire an action show?
ReplyDeleteLove those 3, Banshee, Continuum and Orphan Black
ReplyDeleteThey had them onDEmand at one time... Not sure if they do now where you live.
ReplyDeleteIf you go to Cinemax here is the link:
http://www.welcometobanshee.com/index.html?episode=vault
You will have to enter in your DOB (or someone's) to prove you're 21.Ha! XD
Then in the upper right corner there is a link to "Go to Origins"
I see there is also some vault you can unlock, but I never did that so not sure what is inside.
I could upload them to SpoilerTV if you want..
ReplyDeleteActually, I checked on Youtube and they are available there.

vikings all the way
ReplyDeleteBurn Notice had by far the best action of all cable shows I've seen. I also voted for Graceland, which usually has at least one good action scene an episode, and Defiance, which when it does action scenes usually does a good job of it.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of both Burn Notice and Covert Affairs when I checked Other.
ReplyDeleteGraceland got better every episode. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us next season.
ReplyDeleteBurn Notice was the fist show I thought about when I saw the topic. It fits the term "action" genre better than most of these listed in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteCool, my second poll. Ok to give a Little transperancy to the listing, These were my criteria this time:
ReplyDeleteCable Shows, currently on TV (so no Burn Notice), sorry I dunno how I could skipp Covert Affairs but for these cases there is other. the Network.....
ReplyDeleteStrike Back is better than many movies in the Cinema and it has a good writing in storyline and character development! What they did with Dalton so GRRM, but logical.
ReplyDeleteSorry about skipping Covert Affairs. I think I will put that show on my to do list.
ReplyDeleteSince Burn Notice has ended it is not on the list.
You have every right to include or not include any show in your polls. No one can watch all shows in a genre so it doesn't bother me when someone doesn't include a show I like. That's what Other is for. :-)
ReplyDeleteHope you end up liking Covert Affairs. It is a quick moving show.
ReplyDeleteI think The Americans is as much an action show as some of the others nominated and it would get my vote for sure!
ReplyDeleteI would say "The Americans" for sure. It may not be purely an action show, but it's as much an action show as some of the others on this list, and absolutely great!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Strike Back, it packs tons of action scenes with some good actors, intense stunts and good writing. The whole package.
ReplyDeleteContinuum is my favorite show, of those listed. However, I haven't watched several of them, and didn't realize a few on that poll even existed.
ReplyDeleteyeah I know. but on my criteria this should have been on the list.....
ReplyDeleteThe Walking Dead and Bitten
