The Walking Dead - Season 4 Premiere becomes Most Watched Nonsports Broadcast in Cable History with Live +3 Added

By most standards, Sunday's return of The Walking Dead was the biggest thing to happen to TV so far this fall -- with the obvious exception of the NFL. But with three days of DVR viewing now factored in, it turns out the season four premiere now stands as the most watched nonsports broadcast in cable history.

Nielsen's Live+Three Day returns for The Walking Dead tick the total viewership up by more than four million viewers to a whopping 20.2 million.

Among adults 18-49, an arena The Walking Dead has had locked up for some time now, the episode improved by 2.8 million viewers. That puts it at 13.2 million viewers in the key demo before final Live+Seven Day returns are even in. That's a 10.6 rating.

  1. This is just incredible. I remember watching in the first season and thinking this was a great show. I never expected it to be this popular.

  2. i remember watching the first episodes of The Walking Dead and while i just loved it(been a horror fanatic since age 9) i was also somewhat heartbroken. I mean, finally, a horror show that was comparable to any hollywood movie every week?? i knew either A)the novelty would wear off and it would be canceled, B) they'd be ordered to tune it down because at that time, i thought there was NO WAY they keep getting away with that stuff or C) both A and B.

i have never been so elated to be wrong in my life. This show is perfection in so many ways, and the viewership actually reflects that. gives me hope that more of it's kind will follow.

    LONG LIVE TWD!!!

  3. I'm sorry but the show doesn't deserve such huge ratings. In season 1, probably, but past that.. no.

  5. Your opinion. I watch over 50 TV shows (yeah, I am a crazy) and this is my favorite, so I am glad it is doing so well and clearly lot of other people agree. It's a matter of taste and it is wrong of you to come here and declare that your taste is the correct one and ours is the wrong one.

  7. When have I declared that my taste is the right one and yours isn't? Are you stupid or something?
