Yesterdays results have handed us our final four, two of which I'm not surprised have made it, seeing as they are the two previous champions, and also two which have done exceedingly well to beat numerous shows still on the air to make it this far. Therefore, are final four are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Castle, Supernatural and Charmed. I can honestly add I'm not a massive fan of any of these shows, but I'm well aware of how passionate the fans of each are and appreciate the quality they have in their own specific genres... It's nice to see two finished shows battling it out with the big guns, and I'm still a little unsure over exactly which show will take the title.
Before we get to that, we have the first Semi-Final to deal with, as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a show which has already slain Game of Thrones, Grey's Anatomy, New Girl and The Big Bang Theory (yes, four of the biggest shows still on television at the moment) takes on the reigning champion, the show with a massively crazy fan base, part police procedural, part comedy, part drama, part shipper-central. That show is Castle...
One fan tweeted me yesterday with this unusual quote: "If you tell anyone what I'm about to say, there's going to be another shooting. #Castle" - not sure if I should laugh or hide at such a quote to be honest :-P
For anyone who missed the rules, here they are again:

ReplyDeleteI love both shows a lot...they are both witty, funny and also dramatic. Nevertheless I have to go with Castle because I can honestly say that I've never ever in my life been so into a show like I am into Castle. I'm not one of those disrespectful fans who won't tolerate any other opinion or can't admit there are also sometimes flaws in the storytelling but overall this show is genius and just so very beautiful. I really think Marlowe has built a very honest and realistic story arc here (realistic regarding the relationship of course, not the cases lol) that he has continuously followed; he's always known where he wants the characters to end up and that is something that helps the continuity and storytelling a lot. Of course there have been some weaker points along the way but to be honest to develop a show for 6 years and not have mishaps sometimes is nearly impossible. So I'm a very happy fan, along for the ride as long as it takes (hopefully at least for another season but I'm not opposed to forever ;) lol). :D
ReplyDeleteAlso, just to comment on the quote you received via twitter...since you said you're not into either of these shows you might not really know this but that quote is directly taken from the show and I do think (hope) it was a silly/funny joke and I would chose to laugh about it! lol ;)
Or maybe it was a tweet from the Castlebot account which tweets you randomly whenever you hashtag Castle ;) lol
And to comment on the opinion "Castle is in no way better than Buffy" - this isn't about which show is better but which show is your personal favorite...so this is all completely subjective and people should just vote for their favorite show and let others do the same. :) This is just for fun, guys! So let's not go all negative about it!

ReplyDeleteI think Castle is tremendously overrated here. This being said, I have never watched Buffy and I do watch Castle, so Castle still gets my vote.

Buffy is one of the greatest TV dramas of all time. In terms of impact, storytelling, trailblazing.. it's up there with The Sopranos, Seinfeld, Breaking Bad. It'll always be remembered and thought of as one of the best TV shows ever. Castle is, uh... well it's nice that they have a lot of fans :)

ReplyDeleteI think that Buffy would win outside of SpoilerTV, but in here, Castle has too many fans. For sure, the poll is for favourite TV show and everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but, for me, Buffy was a milestone, it totally marked my life.

ReplyDeleteI'd love for Buffy to upset things a little and get through, just to change things up. Although I do appreciate that this is a popularity contest, and Castle certainly has it's fair share of fans, I almost feel like once a show wins, it should be excluded the following year.

I'm all for Buffy and personally I think Castle is quite an awful show (sorry!) BUT it clearly has fans and everything is a matter of taste. This is just for fun anyway. As you pointed out Buffy will go on forever as one of the TV greats. Who cares if Castle fans win a few online polls? Good for them if they do!

But Fillion's said before how important the shot Whedon gave him was, especially having the lead in Firefly because no one else was giving him a chance. There's no denying he's a Whedonite. It might be dangerous or at least overreaching to give Whedon credit, but it's hard for me personally to not see the influence.

ReplyDeleteI did not watch Buffy back in the days it actually aired, and while I tried to give it ago a year or two ago, I just could not get over my dislike of Sarah Michelle Gellar enough to stomach it. She just rubs me up the wrong way. Castle on the other hand, I greatly enjoy, so even though it won't be making my top five shows or anything, it definitely gets my vote over Buffy.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is the most academically written/studied series in Pop Culture Studies, TV Studies, Time Magazine rates Buffy as one of the Top Fictional Characters To have Never Existed, EW placed Buffy #3 (Behind Homer Simpson & Harry Potter) on their "Top 100 Characters of the past 20 Years", it was the first to break boundaries on LGBTQ culture/relationships on TV, BtVS is one of the most Iconic/Influential series ever to exist. Losing to Castle takes nothing away from it.. It's been 10 Years since BtVS went ended & it remains a foundation for writers & directors. Half of what is on television nowadays bares references or owes its existence to BtVS. Voted for Buffy because I've seen the entire series (probably twice) whereas Castle (though I love it) I'm on Season 5 so had to go with Buffy.

Buffy helped make girls the hero in genre TV instead of the victim and created compelling characters in a mix of action, humor, and scares. There were even college courses about it. Buffy is one for the ages.
