Yesterday saw an epic battle between Game of Thrones and Buffy ending with the Vampires Slaying the people of Westeros is a very close battle. Supernatural also was given a decent run for its money by Firefly, but at the end of the day the Winchesters conquered...
Today sees sci fi favourite Fringe take on last years winner, Castle, whilst Charmed and The X-Files battle it out in the other semi-final.
For anyone who missed the rules, here they are again:
1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly 24 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round.

ReplyDeletefirst few episodes of Fringe were pretty good when I watched it, but I lost interest in it. I've been watching Castle for over 5 years. Everyone likes different stuff, that makes life interesting.

ReplyDeleteI love the X-Files and know its importance to serialized television but Charmed was the show I could watch over and over again as a kid. Fringe is practically the successor of the X-Files, borrowing some themes and character dynamics, but it was also its own beast with a bevy of talent that ran against all expectations given storyline and ratings difficulties.

ReplyDeleteHmm, the way I see it is: "People either like Castle or they have never seen it", to quote Marlowe. I never heard of a person who wasn't hooked on Castle from the first episode. I'm not saying there isn't any, but it's hard to find one. It's a really good show, one of the best ever, so I'm not surprised of its popularity on this site or anywhere else. I loved Fringe as well, but it was just ok for me (I didn't run home from work to catch an episode), unlike Castle, where I could barely wait for the next episode.

ReplyDeleteWell, I am one of those "rare" people, I guess. Still on season 2, for a very long time. It's a good show, but I wasn't hooked up from the first episode and still not. It took me 5 days to go through 3 seasons of Fringe on the other hand. So no needs to generalize here.

Castle has a huge fanbase, don't you ever think it's because of its quality? You can go to other sites if you want to, whenever Castle is on a poll, it wins... It has a huge fanbase all over the world. It's a wonderful show, and I'm sure millions of fans would agree with this statement. I'm not telling that other shows are bad, not at all, I'm watching most of them, but if they had a bigger fanbase, they would have win. So try to understand, and please stop with your same comments.

ReplyDeleteAs much as people love Fringe, and all the dedicated Fringie's on here, I wonder how the ratings managed to slip so much. I know a lot of people re-corded it on DVR and stuff, and all that. Some could argue it was the "Friday Night Death Slot" but the ratings were slipping before that..
ReplyDeleteFringe and X-Files today. This was an easy voting day for me although I have also watched the other two. Castle I dropped last year when it focused on shipping way too much, Charmed I basically watched as reruns on TNT between other shows.

ReplyDeleteAll online polls are about the fanbase more than the show, but "quality" is very subjective. That's why I am glad that Adam changed the name from "Best" Tv Show to "Favorite."

ReplyDeleteThat seems hugely egotistical of Marlowe and probably not the best quote to inspire new people to watch the show. Perhaps instead of lecturing you could tell all the reasons why you love Castle and why other people should try it. As for people being tired of Castle winning every poll, that happened on this site with Supernatural too. Don't worry. It will stop happening when Castle stops winning, which it will at some time because like everything else TV fandom is cylical.

ReplyDeleteOnline fandom never tells the true picture of all people watching for any TV show. I know people who dropped it when they brough in the parallel worlds. I almost dropped it when they erased Peter from everyone's memory and effectively killed the best thing the show had going for it, the father-son relationship with Walter. That's what kept me coming back. Sometimes shows make choices that turn off viewers; sometimes it's just age.

ReplyDeleteI wasn't implying they didn't.The Castle fans come here everyday.But with Fringe,since it ended many people that were here have moved on,so trying to get Fringies together is a lot harder to do on weekends than during the week.And if i remember correctly didn't we have 2 days,not just 24 hours when it got to the quarter finals?

ReplyDeleteQuality? Castle has the best psuedo realism than most procedurals. That is hard to do. It rarely resorts to any literary trickery. So it mostly tell the story up front and personal. That is quality.

I wish the outcome had been different in this,but you fought a good battle Laura. I don't have the network connections you have, but tried my best. I did manage to get my son on the phone. He watched the series online this summer,and thought it's great. Hope he voted although he was with his new girlfriend at the time. There's one thing about polls. They aren't always accurate. Fringe will still be number 1.
