“Girl in New Orleans” marked Elijah’s much anticipated
return. But that’s not all that happened this week. The episode seemed to focus more on Davina and Cami. We
learn that Cami had a twin brother who, probably under compulsion, killed 9
people plus himself. Davina, on the other hand, is craving more freedom. Klaus
tries to get her to switch sides but has to resort to blackmail when she
refuses. In the meantime the witches double-cross Hayley and try to kill her
and her baby. Clearly they forgot that if they kill her, they also kill Sophie.
(Or maybe they do remember, but just don’t care.) Rebekah finally finds Elijah,
only for him to tell her to leave him there and that he has a plan. Let’s hope
his plan works.
Favorite moment: Hayley
fights off the witches. Totally forgot about the werewolf super-strength. The scene
reminded me of when Klaus slaughtered the hybrids. I’d love to find out more
about her background, preferably in flashbacks. I like that Rebekah’s becoming
more protective of Hayley, not just the baby. I hope we find out the wolf’s
identity soon. My money is on a relative of Hayley. (I previously thought it
may have been Tyler, but I doubt it now that he’s back on “The Vampire Diaries”.)
Most tragic moment:
Klaus erases Cami’s memory of what she found out about her brother. It was
pretty awful how he kept playing with her mind throughout the episode, but this
was the worst. However, the more Cami gets compelled, the more convinced I am
that she’ll become a vampire soon.
Biggest bitch moment:
Agnes double-crosses Hayley. Big mistake. She might as well start shopping for
a tombstone, there’s no way the
Mikaelsons are going to let this slide.
Most surprising character: They did it. They made me like Davina. She had been getting on my nerves these past episodes, but this week I actually felt for her. I loved her scenes with Tim. It showed that even though she’s a very powerful witch, she’s also still a teenager. She wants the same things normal teenagers do: love and freedom. It broke my heart that she had to give up Tim, I hope we haven’t seen the last of them together.
Most surprising
moment: Hayley’s baby healed her. I thought the baby would only have the
werewolf traits, although it seems now the baby will also be part vampire. I
wonder what this means for her aging process.
Most badass moment:
Davina takes on Klaus. It takes a lot of guts to do that. She managed to hold
her own for a while. I’m glad she didn’t back down even when he had Tim.
However I hate that Klaus made her think she did that to Tim, while he was the
one who threw him off the balcony.
Best friendship
moment: As much as their relationship confuses me, I love the bond between
Marcel and Davina. I can’t decide whether I see their relationship as father/daughter
or big brother/little sister. I love how protective he gets over her, and not
just because she’s his weapon against the witches. I think he genuinely cares
for her and I hope to see more scenes between the two.
Best quotes:
Hayley: “Can we go home now? I’d really like to sleep for a few days.”
Father Kieran: “You’re standing on blood.” Rebekah: “I’m not
squeamish.”
Rebekah: “If I had a dollar for every mess my family’s
gotten me into.”
Even though the pace was a little slower, “Girl in New
Orleans” was still a great episode. Next week it seems we’ll be getting more
into Davina’s past, and of course more Elijah. Check in again next week for my
review and tell me what you thought of the episode.
