The Big Bang Theory - Episode 7.05 - The Workplace Proximity - Review

This show has been consistently funny ever since the episode where Halloween episode from Season 6 where Bernadette and Howard were dressed up as “The Smurfs”. After consistently funny episodes through most of season 6 and all of season 7, this episode was a big disappointment.

The episode explained about Amy going to Sheldon’s university to work on a project that she signed a contract for an undisclosed amount of money. The first half of the episode was funny especially the parts where Amy said, “One should not eat where they defecate” meaning that people who have a relationship should not work together. Another funny part was where Raj made a “The Princess Bride” reference. In other words, Raj invited Howard to spend the night after a fight with Bernadette. This fight was caused with Sheldon’s mouth saying that Howard wouldn’t like to work with Bernadette in the workplace. The beginning scene where Sheldon was texting while eating out with Amy was absolutely hilarious. The reference about Amazon.com that he mentioned was actually pretty funny.

Despite some hilarious parts of the episode, one of the main problems with the episode was the second half as where there were not as many laughs. For example, I wished that Bernadette was sassier to Howard and made him leave Raj’s place. There was a soft side to her, which did not click with me. I can't believe that when Howard tried to apologize to Berndaette in the first half but refused to hang out with her after being in the middle of the game at Raj's place, he was being a hypocrite. This situation is something I would expect from Sheldon but Howard was a bigger jerk. This episode concentrated more on how women are mistreated than it being funny. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to like this episode so much but it just did not connect with me.

Verdict:
Grade: B-. I wish the producers showed more of Bernadette confronting Howard towards the beginning of the episode. I have not been disappointed with an episode like this since the episode-arc where Howard was in space back in the early stages of Season 6. However, I definitely still have high hopes for the next episode where Sheldon is credited for creating an awesome invention only to find it that there was an error in the invention. My opinion should not influence you all to skip this episode. We all have different types of humor so give this episode a try.
