Fox is firming up its midseason comedy scheduling plans. I’ve learned that the network is planning to launch Surviving Jack after American Idol on Thursday. The comedy’s order has been trimmed from 13 to 8, but unlike the recent order reduction for Fox’s other midseason live-action comedy, Us & Them, the decision was dictated by scheduling reasons — Fox will have eight weeks worth of available 8:30 PM slots on Thursday when the American Idol results show goes to 30 minutes. With Us & Them unlikely to factor into Fox’s midseason scheduling plans, the decision to put Surviving Jack on Thursday indicates that the network is likely planning to keep its Tuesday comedy block intact for the remainder of the season. New Girl and The Mindy Project have 22-episode orders, and newbie Brooklyn Nine-Nine was given a full-season pickup last week. That means that the remaining comedy, freshman Dads, will probably get a Back 9 order too, and I hear that is in the works.

I don't like this decision for Surviving Jack. I think Dads should be shipped off to Fridays. This is just disgusting but at least Brooklyn Nine-Nine did get a full-season.
ReplyDeleteso I guess that means Raising Hope doubles up on Fridays?
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me with Dads, FOX? Really?
ReplyDeleteI guess the name of Seth MacFarlane has powers over on FOX.
ReplyDeleteI am actually looking forward to this show and this could actually work decently. Here is to hope. It certainly got a better deal than poor Enlisted.
ReplyDeleteIt is not doing that bad to be pulled in the relative standing of FOX comedies ratings, even though I really wished for a B99/Enlisted/New Girl/Surviving Jack block.
ReplyDeleteSummer (starting in May presumably) on Mondays with 24.
ReplyDeleteAlthough in theory I was hoping it could make it on to the tuesday block, Idol is still likely to be a stronger lead-in than any current FOX comedy from the tuesday block and the 8h30 Thursday slot is actually not that bad because The Millers is not doing that great (it certainly is no big bang), abc is non existent and nbc has their weak comedies. It has a shot.
