A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, "Bitchcraft", October 9, 2013, Actors: Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange
The Scenes: The opening scene & Fiona in the motel room
Kelly Ann: Kathy Bates in the opening scene! Genius! Also picked by DarkUFO
Romain Ossust: Fiona in the motel room, dancing and taking drugs. She finally revealed herself as a powerful witch (the Supreme) and sucked the life out of that guy from The Event. And her younger look in the mirror was nicely done. Also picked by Sharon Seymour
ARROW, "City of Heroes", October 9, 2013, Actors: Stephen Amell, Summer Glau, Willa Holland, Susanna Thompson
The Scenes: Oliver meets Isabel Rochev & Thea visits Moira in prison
Bradley Adams: Oliver meets Isabel Rochev for the first time. It was hilarious to hear her continually insulting Oliver.
A Dahne: Thea visits Moira in prison. I love moments with the two of them together because they are always well-acted. However, this one marked great personal growth in Thea and sparked the best line. "If I hug you, are they going to shoot us?" Moira's response: "I'm willing to risk it if you are." Great, touching mother-daughter moment.
ELEMENTARY, "We Are Everyone", October 10, 2013, Actors: Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu
The Scene: The closing scene
Jimmy Ryan: The closing scene of this week's episode had 2 great moments. The first was Watson telling Sherlock that she thought it was sad that he'd given up looking for a relationship. The second was Sherlock reading the letter he received from Jamie Moriarty. The two voices, beginning as Sherlock, merging for a moment, then ending with Moriarty's as the letter was read was very effective and added a lot to the scene and the episode as a whole. It was very well done.
GLEE, "The Quarterback", October 10, 2013, Actors: Lea Michele, Romy Rosemont, Mike O'Malley, Chris Colfer
The Scenes: Finn's mother breaks down in his room & Rachel sings
Jamie Coudeville: This was a really hard episode for me. But when Lea came in I just started sobbing. The entire episode was beautifully done.
A Dahne: Finn's mother breaks down in his room. I haven't watched Glee in years and this episode reminded me why. It also reminded me why senseless death is such a tragedy. Nothing hit that home harder than watching Finn's mom lose it while going through his things. It was almost unbearable to watch, but it felt more real than almost everything else in the episode.
Justyna Kubica: Like many others, even though I haven't watched the show for a while, I wanted to see this tribute episode, especially considering that Finn used to be one of my favorites. And it turned out to be a very painful and absolutely heartbreaking experience. I couldn't decide which scene was the best, till the very last minute. And in the end, I decided to go with Finn's mom breaking down in his room. There are no words that could describe the pain of the mother who lost her only child and seeing the amazing Romy Rosemont here was just too much to handle. The dialogue between Carole, Burt and Kurt was the most powerful thing I've heard on TV for a long time. I'm just glad that the cast and crew has found a way to say goodbye to their fallen friend. And hopefully it helped, at least a bit. Also picked by Sylvie C
GREY'S ANATOMY, "Puttin' on the Ritz", October 10, 2013, Actors: Jessica Capshaw, Sarah Drew
The Scene: Drunk Arizona and April in the closet
Spartigus15: It was nice to see an unlikely pairing start to bloom between these two. They were so adorable in the closet drinking, but they were both also vulnerable. Best lines where Arizona's "Are we talking about Matthew or Jesus?" and April's "Can I try on your leg?" (hilarity).
HAVEN, "The New Girl", October 11, 2013, Actors: Emily Rose, Eric Balfour
The Scene: Duke figures out that Audrey's back
Justyna Kubica: I absolutely loved this scene! They caught me completely off guard. Which is actually pretty crazy, since I really did consider this possibility. But honestly, I figured that Audrey lying about being Lexie to protect Nathan would be the best thing that could happen in these circumstances, but I never expected it to actually happen! I’m loving the fact the writers had the same idea from the start. And obviously, Duke’s the one who finds out first. Good. Exactly I like wanted. This was such a great episode, by the way. With many amazing moments for the fans of Nathan and Audrey, Duke and Jennifer and all those like me who are really glad to see more of the friendship between Nathan and Duke this season. I cannot wait to see how things are going to be like now that Duke knows! So many amazing options ahead! Big kudos to the writers and the cast. You made my day.
HAWAII FIVE 0, "The Truth Within", October 11, 2013, Actors: Daniel Dae Kim, Jorge Garcia
The Scene: Chin and Jerry talk about their band camp
Melissa Cavallo: I really love this scene because both actors worked together in Lost. And Jerry asked Chin "Do you remember how tiny those tents were?" And Chin replies "Dude, how could I forget, it's like we were on a deserted island all summer". This made we laugh so hard because it was a hint to Lost.
HOMELAND, "Uh... Oh... Ah...", October 6, 2013, Actors: Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin
The Scene: Carrie and Saul at the end (picked by Alex Zhora and Sharon Seymour)
IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, "The Gang Saves the Day", October 9, 2013, Actor: Kaitlin Olson
The Scene: Dee as Mr. Covington (picked by Alex Zhora)
NASHVILLE, "I Don't Wanna Talk About It Now", October 9, 2013, Actor: Charles Esten
The Scene: Deacon breaks down
Klutzy girl: Deacon breaks down in AA about his father. It was really sad and painful. Charles Esten knocked that scene out of the park. I'm glad Deacon's trying to help himself now.
ONCE UPON A TIME, "Lost Girl", October 9, 2013, Actors: Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin
The Scene: Emma admits she feels like an orphan
Justyna Kubica: And once again, Jennifer Morrison has a chance to shine in a very emotional scene, where Emma reveals to Snow that even though she found her parents she still feels like an orphan. "Just a lost little girl, who didn't matter." A truly heartbreaking moment for both characters. But I think it might be just what they needed at that point. And maybe knowing more about her daughter's past will allow Snow to understand her and know her a little better. Also, admitting something like that must have been incredibly hard for Emma but it's a step forward for her. Maybe one day she'll finally be able to break down the walls she's built around her. I really enjoyed this episode in general, mostly "the present day" part. I'm glad we got some funny moments (Hook and Charming!) and great dynamics between the characters. I'm definitely interested to see what's next for our team in Neverland.
Tyler James: Emma coming to terms with the fact that she was/is an orphan.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND, "Down the Rabbit Hole", October 10, 2013, Actors: Sophie Lowe, Michael Socha
The Scene: Alice and The Knave escape from the asylum back to Wonderland (picked by Tyler James)
PERSON OF INTEREST, "Lady Killer", October 8, 2013, Actors: Amy Acker, Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, Sarah Shahi and others
The Scenes: Root escapes from the mental hospital & Zoe, Det. Carter and Shaw dress up to find a killer
Bradley Adams: Root escapes from the mental hospital. Wow. Brilliantly done. Also picked by Sharon Seymour
Jimmy Ryan: I just fell in love with the scene in which Zoe, Det. Carter and Shaw were standing in the room all dressed up with Finch and Reese watching them. It was hilarious to see Shaw's disgust at Finch listing her alias' occupation as a yoga instructor on her online dating profile. But most of all, I loved Reese's line to Shaw, in which he said, "You look fine Shaw, you just look...angry, all the time".
REVOLUTION, "Love Story", October 9, 2013, Actors: Billy Burke, Elizabeth Mitchell
The Scene: Rachel refuses to leave without Miles
Jamie Coudeville: I loved this scene so much. I love how their relationship is developing.
SCANDAL, "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner", October 10, 2013, Actors: Kerry Washington, Guillermo Diaz
The Scene: Huck attacks Liv in the garage
Spartigus15: Best scene for me was actually a disturbing scene where Huck attacks Liv in the garage. But I appreciated more of his restraint after he attacked her. I think it changes their dynamic now.
SLEEPY HOLLOW, "The Lesser Key of Solomon", October 7, 2013, Actor: Tom Mison
The Scene: Ichabod talks to the "NorthStar" operator about his wife
Klutzy Girl: Ichabod has a conversation with the "NorthStar" operator, Yolanda, and makes her cry. It was hilarious and one of the best moments of the episode.
A Dahne: Ichabod extols his love for Katrina to the crying Northstar operator, Yolanda. This was brilliantly presented and the funniest thing I have seen all week. I still laugh thinking about it. Also picked by Sylvie C
STRIKE BACK: SHADOW WARFARE, "Episode 4", September 6, 2013, Actors: Philip Winchester, Sullivan Stapleton
The Scene: Scott and Stonebridge's action sequence on a train
Jimmy Ryan: The scene in which Scott and Stonebridge land on top of a train by helicopter, before killing a few bad guys and later blowing up the train with the help of a truck was one of the most impressive stunt scenes the show has ever done. It was really well done, effective, and spectacular to watch.
SUPERNATURAL, "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here", October 8, 2013, Actors: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki
The Scene: Dean goes into Sam's head to save him
Klutzy girl: Dean goes into Sam's head to convince him to come back, and tells him that it's him and Sam, come whatever, and that there "ain't no me if there ain't no you". And it convinces Sam to come back. While co-dependent, the love the brothers have for each other is the best. Also picked by Sylvie C
THE BLACKLIST, "Wujing (No. 84)", October 7, 2013, Actors: Harry Lennix, Diego Klattenhoff
The Scene: Ressler tells Cooper about Elizabeth's ballistics search
Bradley Adams: The scene where Ressler tells Cooper about Elizabeth's ballistics search. Interesting to see that the FBI have suspicions of their own agent.
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, "True Lies", October 10, 2013, Actors: Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder
The Scene: Damon and Elena reassure each other about their feelings
Jamie Coudeville: I loved this scene on every level. The lighting, the colors and those two love crazy idiots. I really hope the writers don't ruin it.
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, "Bitchcraft", October 9, 2013, Actors: Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange
The Scenes: The opening scene & Fiona in the motel room

Main Account - All Shows
And again, choosing just three scenes is a killer. In other words, some of my honorable mentions include:
ReplyDeleteAgents Of SHIELD - Coulson makes a hard choice (new Marvel villain is born!)
Arrow - All the Team Arrow moments
Elementary - The letter and Joan starting to write about Sherlock (!)
Glee - Every moment with Rachel and Will breaking down at the end
Haven - all the Nathan&Audrey moments and the beginning!
Person Of Interest - Root escapes. WOW! Almost made it to my list!
Sleepy Hollow - Yeah, the call. It was great!
Supernatural - I really liked the scenes between Dean and Ezekiel and also Dean in Sam's head.
And probably many more ;)
Honorable mentions:
ReplyDeleteGlee - Rachel breaks down at the end, but I lost it during the scene with Burt, Kurt, and Carole.
OUAT: Emma talks about being an orphan.
OUAT in Wonderland: Knave asks who thought a pond made out of dessert topping was a good idea. It was hilarious!
AHS: Yes, Kathy Bates's opening scene! I have a feeling Kathy's going to win all the awards for this season. Plus, Madison flipping over the bus after she was raped was awesome.
H50: Yes, I loved that scene!
Bones: Pelant dies and the re-proposal.
ReplyDeleteHaven't you just stolen my line on the POI one? ;)
ReplyDeleteRevenge: Emily calls Father Paul (during this scene, I was like "Damn! She's evil!")
ReplyDeleteAnother excellent week in TV. Here are my honorable mentions:
ReplyDeleteBlacklist - Red shoots the guy before he can blow Lizzie's cover and she is conflicted about it.
SHIELD - Skye proves her worth with an e-vite
Glodbergs - Barry's parents look at him like he's nuts when he asks for $100 sneakers (oh the memories)
Trophy Wife - Pete tricks Diane into revealing she's the mastermind in the snooping plan; also "This is the boringest car chase ever."
Person of Interest - The women compare weapons (fun!)
Crazy Ones - Driving lesson (second funniest thing I've seen this week)
Elementary - Sherlock is still communicating with Moriarty (didn't expect that); also "No Belgian is that bad at backgammon."
Wonderland - Alice takes out the asylum guards
Arrow - Walter returns (Yippeee - here's hoping there's more of him this season)
Tomorrow People - Subway fight (good stunt coordination and interesting)
Glee - Rachel sings for Finn
Person of Interest - The girls night out and Root escapes
ReplyDeleteThe Originals - Rebecca tells Klaus it's okay to care.
Beauty and the Beast - Vincent holds Cat while she cries.
The Mentalist - Lisbon wakes from her nightmare and Jane comforts her.
Elementary - The end scene
That Knave line made my best TV quotes of the week list. His snark was the best thing abotu the episode.
ReplyDelete"Of
course we did, because a pond made out of dessert topping makes perfect
sense."
Completely forgot about The Originals and The Mentalist. There were some great scenes in both shows. The one that comes to mind would be Rebekah and Klaus at the end, talking about getting Elijah back.
ReplyDeleteDamn it i can not believe i forgot Will's breakdown in Glee...OMG i dont usually cry (like i really try hard not to cry for tc and movies) but damn it i broke in this episode specially with Will. I know its not listed in the polly but thats my honorable mention. And of course my Grey's and Scandal picks!
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who can't see the poll?
ReplyDeleteEasily Root escaping the mental hospital on Person of Interest. She's so freaking bad ass.
ReplyDeleteIt's part of what made me like the Knave. He had the best lines. "I'm going to die like (or was it in) a smore."
ReplyDeleteThat one was on my list as well: "I'm
ReplyDeletegoing to die like a bloody S'More." The knave is really the only major selling point for me at this juncture. He makes me laugh.
Tough time choosing between Sleepy Hollow and AHS, finally went with the opening scene with Kathy Bates. I'm glad they brought her back to life (sort of) so she can continue in this series.
ReplyDeleteAlso on AHS, Fiona sucking life out of (you know, that's how I know him also) the guy from The Event. And another favorite scene was Zoe murdering the nasty frat boy with her vagina. Yeah.
Still catching up on POI, next is 2.13 for me.
I can see it, but I'm having trouble lately with Disqus loading.
ReplyDeleteOh, another honorable mention I forgot:
ReplyDeleteHaven: Duke telling Jennifer he has another room on his boat and they kiss. They've quickly become a new OTP and I love them. That moment was adorable.
Homeland : The final scene with Saul and Carrie. Claire Danes was SO SO good.
ReplyDeleteOUAT : Emma admitting she was an orphan, a really good scene.
HIMYM : Robin and Lily scenes. Loved it!
Castle: The final 'you're fired' scene of course, we knew she had to come back to NYC somehow. But the scene before McCord comes, when Castle is giving Beckett the key to their apartment in Washington, it was really something.
Scandal: Lots of great scenes in this episode, especially Huck and Olivia's parking lot showdown. Also Cyrus telling Fitz to grow 'presidential balls' and Fitz's excellent comeback..Jake on Olivia's doorstep was my third favorite.
OUAT in Wonderland: Gotta say, loved that the show started with Knave of Hearts bumping into Grumpy and Cinderella in Storybrooke. And I enjoyed the scenes with Alice and Knave of Hearts, interesting bond. Waiting for all their back stories.
TVD: Katherine coming back for Jeremy and saving him from Silas. Did not see that one coming. And of course Damon & Elena in the end.
The Crazy Ones: The scene where Sydney gives a speech to the father-daughter duo they bump into while she's learning to drive and tells them about everything she's learned from Simon. Sweet!
Elementary: Sherlock reading the letter from Moriarty!! Watson is writing about Sherlock!!!!
Greys Anatomy: Derek and Meredith in the on call room after the party, when she tells him he has the sparkle in his eyes. Reminded me alot of their good ol' days.
Loved everything in this week's Modern Family, Middle & Last Man Standing too.
Closing scene of Elementary. Also,
ReplyDeleteOther: Supernatural: Cas in the laundromat. Best thing ever.
I vote for two scenes of glee.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch the show but I watch this episode because I knew it was Cory's episode. And I couldn't stop crying. A really tough episode but Cory and Lea deserved it.
American Horror Story - The opening scene
ReplyDeleteI LOVED that scene.
ReplyDeleteThey are very quickly becoming my favorite ship on Haven.all of their scenes never fail to bring a smile to my face.
My other is the whole dang ep of Supernatural, it was well written, acted and directed..start to finish. Also Haven( Duke knowing Audrey was back) and Scandal the fight in the garage.
ReplyDeletejensen just shared about his dream he had few weeks ago about SPN
ReplyDeletefinale. In his dream Sam has died and there was no way for Dean to bring
him back. Then the scene cuts to Dean driving the impala on the highway
and he stops when a stranger appears. He gets out of the impala and
gives the keys to the stranger. And the stranger gives his keys to him.
Then the stranger drives away and Dean is left with a motorcycle.Because
with his brother gone forever Dean doesn’t need passenger seat anymore.
To the endless horizon where the highway is laid, Dean rides on his
motorcycle alone
If I had caught up on Elementary before posting, I'd have gone for the scene where Sherlock is prepared to strip. That was unbelievably funny.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Huck will be on the run now and Jake willl help the gang in the meantime, and my guess is that Huck will try to kill Olivias's father...
ReplyDeleteWell that sucks, don't want that ending AT ALL. lol Don't want to think about Dean being alone, he would not survive. He only made it last time because he was still working on a way to get Sam out of the cage..Sam would do fine without Dean.
ReplyDelete
