Review - Glee - 5.02 - Tina in the Sky with Diamonds
Oct 5, 2013
Glee ReviewsYesterday was Glee’s second episode to its fifth season. Tina in the Sky with Diamonds was obviously the continuity to last week's Beatles themed episode. It really had this Glee feeling, the one that made me fall in love with the show in the first place.
The episode focused on McKingley High’s prom night, starting out with the announcement of the nominees for prom king and queen. The choices consisted of two cheerios, Kitty and Tina along with the stoner kid, Artie, Blaine and a nobody. Yeah, he had no chance in hell of winning, was also my opinion. I am not from the States, so I cannot really know for sure. Is prom king and queen really as much of a deal as American sitcoms make it out it to be? Anyhow, Tina became this monster biatch upon learning she was nominated for prom queen. She even engaged the help of her minion to help her maximise her chances of winning. She even dumped Sam, his new hairdo probably didn’t help. She though going with a group of single ladies would help her cause more, yep it's definatly the hair.
There is a new mean Cheerio in town, but I just don’t believe it. Also, cheers for a new Santana, Brittany(the one in the neck brace) and Quinn (aka Kitty). New Satana, also known as Bree(I think) is supposed to be the new villain of the show. The only problem is ever time she opens her mouth, I just want to slap her out of it. She just isn’t able to look threatening. She doesn’t look mean, but she surely acts mean. She pulled the Carrie prank on Tina. By the way Kitty, congratulations on the slowest possible reaction for that prank. Was it really pig blood or just red slushies? I wonder. Also, I was kind of hoping for Tina to turn all telekinetic on us and start a fire trapping everybody in the gym or something, but this is Glee.
In true sisterhood, the glee girls and Unique, cleaned Tina up and lent her a dress so she could go do her five word long acceptance speech.
Upon being dumped by Tina and realising he is pretty unlucky in love, Sam develops a weird relationship, which I found pretty cute, with the young nurse Sue hired to give everyone polio shots. At the end of the season, everyone is probably going to end up dead though, she is more than incompetent. She's almost as bad as Terri in season one. I like people starting to have relationships outside the Glee club. So much inbreeding is going on right now, it’s making me dizzy.
During the New York part of this episode,Santana starred in a commercial for yeast infection medication (Yeah, I love yeast in my Bagel, but not in my muffin!). Rachel was kind of jealous. Thumbs up Rachel for acting like a friend, my, have you grown since season 1. Then, yet another lesbian was introduced, not just any lesbian though, Demi Levato. I loved her duet with Santana of Here Come’s the Sun. Santana and Dani, shared a connection which I am sure we will continue to explore during at least a couple of episodes, I don’t have that much of an opinion on this couple right now.
In other news, Rachel got the part in Funny Girl, not that anyone is allowed to be surprised. I still got a little emotional when I witnessed Rachel’s reaction. I know, I am a softy.
P.S. Prepare your tissues for next week ladies and gentlemen because it’s going to be a sad one. The preview made my eyes teary, can’t imagine the episode. Hope they don’t screw it up.

yeah, Bree was annoying the whole entire time she was talking I just wanted to punch her in the face, I liked when Sue called Sam "samgelina jolie" I know next week they're gonna have me in tears
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE! your review!
ReplyDeletelike u said Bree doesnt look mean at all she just look like she is trying to much, i hated half of the episode Mc. Kingley parts were a little boring cause they reminded me so much at the episode when Mercedes got all Diva on everyone just like Tina did, the Big Pot of Slushie was the part that saved that one for me, that was funny and sad and the same time, Funny cause of Kitty`s reaction (i was waiting that she just pushed Tina and the slushie falls all over her but didnt happen) and sad cause YK Tina got slushie and kind of didnt deserve it it was just sad, New york always brings the best on the episodes i find it more interesting that in Mc.King the part of the cast that is in New York they look so well together that it shows in every episode...
As for the new nurse i just couldnt help but compare her to Mrs. Pillsbury it`s her younger version just without the OCD
Yeah! I also laughed at the Samgelina Jolie insult! Sue's insults are so priceless!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I had completely forgotten about the Diva episode!
ReplyDeleteI agree mrs. Pillsbury and the nurse (forgot her name) have the same feel. Kind of lost but you just want to hug them!
Oh dear did we see the same show? Tina's Prom Queen fiasco was a rehash of Kurt's, who did it better. Rachel getting Fanny was a rehash of the NYADA audition. Sam and Nurse Penny are a rehash of Puck and Shelby. And can Sam go 5 minutes without having to be tied to a girl? (And he needs to wash and cut his hair!) New nurse rehash of old nurse. Sue, -the usual cute but-getting-tiresome names and remarks. Demi is cute, but she has an expiration date (as will Adam Lambert). I liked the NYC songs better than the Lima songs - but then I think Kurt has a fantastic voice and blends well with just about anyone!
ReplyDeleteNo way is Sam and nurse Penny anything like puck and Shelby. They have what, maximum 3 years difference. Puck and Shelby could have been mother and son, plus she was raising his baby. How can they even compare?
ReplyDeleteI don't recall Sue ever being a nurse?
Having an expiration date doesn't make any difference if you ask me.
The episode was SO GOOD! I love Glee, I don't want it to end =/
ReplyDeleteI loved the episode. I really did. As I said before I didn't care for the "Carrie" scene in Glee, especially with Kitty's EXTREMELY SLOW reaction. I was seriously waiting for her to run out and push Tina out the way!! But it just didn't happen. However, I couldn't help feel sorry for Tina, and it was just red slushie, not pig's blood. Lol but is it wrong that I was kinda hoping it was?? (Lol american horror) I did love the Hey Jude performance...and I thought Santana's scene with Demi was cute(although idc for demi). I also couldn't help but get happy for Rachel, I found myself clapping for her. I knew once he asked her for a cake that she got the part. And Santana's commerical was PRICELESS!!! I laughed so hard! Then when she said idk anyone whose toxic vagina would need this much medication. Lol then she complained when her boss took it away. Hahahaha that was rich, her facial expression killed me. Am I excited for next week?? HELL NO!! That promo alone made my eyes tear like crazy. Hearing Rachel crack as she was singing Adele's song broke my heart. Then Kurt's crying and all the notes on his locker. Ugh, it's too much, idk how they did it. I too hope they don't screw it up, but iIdt they will.
ReplyDeleteSam/Penny are like Puck/Shelby in that it is completely inappropriate for a staff member to date a student. We are not talking age. You will see Sue is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SENTENCE from the nurses. Having an expiration date ends a story, so it does matter
ReplyDeleteSorry, read the sue thing too fast.
ReplyDelete6 or 7 episode arc is good enough for me I guess, but really not here to argue with anyone.
I'm getting why you're saying its inappropriate for a staff member to date a student, but they aren't dating and she's also a student, he's graduating and she's not that much older than them. But yeah while she is working at the school they can't date. I guess we just don't see it the same way!
Still at least 2 seasons to go, but I'd rather end with an episode like this one, than endure another season like the fourth!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they'll screw up either, they must of put so much real emotion in the filming of that episode!
ReplyDeletePs. I think the nurse's name is in fact Penny Owens.
Thank you!! That was killing me, Penny, got it now. And yes, actually i think it was today or last night i read an interview with RM, and he said that almost that entire episode is with real emotion, he kept everything in while they were filming, no doubt in my mind that this won't be anything less than perfect. = )
ReplyDeleteOnly one season left to go.
ReplyDeleteThey'll have everyone in tears!! Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI thought they had signed for a 6th season?
ReplyDeleteExactly, this is season 5. So after this there's only 1 left. Not 2.
ReplyDeleteYeah ok, but season 5 is only starting, so in my head it made 2 :p
ReplyDeleteOh that's what u did? haha then u miscalculated. lol This doesn't count. Since we're already 2 episodes in. It's the current season...Lucas probably thinks you meant it'll go to 7 seasons...so hopefully he's reading our comments. lol
