CBS owns Tuesday in the overnights once again this season and last night was no exception. “NCIS” topped the night with an 11.7 rating/19 share at 8 p.m., which was on par from one year earlier, followed by “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#1: 9.6/15 at 9 p.m.) and relocated “Person of Interest” (#1: 8.0/14 at 10 p.m.). Comparably, “Person of Interest,” which was stronger on Thursday last season, built from failed year-ago occupant “Vegas” (7.5/13 on 10/09/12) by seven percent (and the adult 18-49 rating will be notably stronger).
On NBC, a two-hour clips edition of “The Voice,” featuring the most memorable blind auditions, resonated with a second-place 6.8/11 from 8-10 p.m., fluctuating by only four-tenths of a rating point in the four half-hours. With stronger lead-in support, relocated “Chicago Fire” scored a second-place 5.0/ 9 at 10 p.m., which was 28 percent above year-ago occupant “Parenthood” (3.9/ 7 on 10/09/12) and is poised for time period victory among adults 18-49. One year earlier, “Chicago Fire” scored a similar 4.7/ 8 in the overnights on Wednesday at 10 p.m. (out of “Law & Order: SVU”).
Over at ABC, week three of highly anticipated “Marvel’s Agents of “S.H.I.E.L.D.” slipped by only five percent from the week two overnights, with a third-place 5.3/ 9 at 8 p.m. And that 5.6/ 9 one week earlier translated into 8.66 million viewers and a 3.3 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 (according to the live plus same day data). If “S.H.I.E.L.D.” can level off now, this is good news for ABC. Three week overnight track for “Marvel’s Agents of “S.H.I.E.L.D”: 7.7/12 – 5.6/ 9 – 5.3/ 9.
Next on the alphabet net was week three of sitcom “The Goldbergs” at a third-place 4.0/ 6 at 9 p.m., which dropped by another 10 percent from week two and was down by 22 percent from the 8:30 p.m. portion of “S.H.I.E.L.D.” (5.1/ 8). And that 4.3/ 7 one week earlier translated into 6.06 million viewers and a 2.2/ 6 in the demo. The bottom line: “The Goldbergs needs to settle in now. Three week overnight track for “The Goldbergs”: 6.0/ 9 – 4.3/ 7 – 4.0/ 6.
On ABC at 9:30 p.m. was week three of “Trophy Wife” which was equal to one week earlier with a distant third-place 3.3/ 5 at 9:30 p.m. If “Super Fun Night” turns into a super flop on Wednesday (and I personally think it will), ABC would be wise to move “Trophy Wife” into the 9:30 p.m. time period out of compatible “Modern Family.”
At 10 p.m., an encore of “Scandal” in place of canceled “Lucky 7” could not compete with a 2.3/ 4 (#3) at 10 p.m.
In time period premiere news, “The Originals” on The CW opened the night with a bland 1.3/ 2 in the overnights at 8 p.m. Comparably, that was 24 percent below the 1.7/ 3 for its Thursday 9 p.m. preview last week (out of the season-premiere of parent “The Vampire Diaries”). And that 1.7 translated into 2.21 million viewers and a 1.0/ 3 among adults 18-49. One year earlier, former time period occupant “Hart of Dixie” scored a 1.2/ 2 (on 10/09/12).
Next on The CW was the season-premiere of veteran “Supernatural,” which at a 1.5/ 2 at 9 p.m. (#5) was 15 percent above lead-in “The Originals.” But minus the support from former lead-in “Arrow,” “Supernatural” slipped by 12 percent from its year-ago season-opener (1.7/ 3 on 10/12/12).
Fox, meanwhile, was virtually identical to one week earlier with its sitcom combination of “Dads” (#4: 2.4/ 4), “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4: 2.5/ 4), “New Girl” (#5: 2.8/ 4) and “The Mindy Project” (#4: 2.0/ 4). And the block, on average, dipped from the year-ago combination of “Raising Hope” (2.8/ 4), “Ben & Kate” (2.1/ 3), “New Girl” (3.6/ 5) and “The Mindy Project” (2.4/ 4) by an average of 11 percent in the overnights. “New Girl,” unfortunately, is no longer the hit it once was.

About the Daily Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the
Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the
Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below)
