-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC and NBC tied for overnight household dominance on this third Monday of the new TV season, and NBC, of course, will win the evening in adults 18-49 (and other key young adult demos) thanks to “The Voice” and “The Blacklist.” “The Voice” opened with an 8.9 rating/13 share in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was seven percent above the 8.3/12 on the year-ago evening and two percent below competing “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC (9.1/14). And bona fide hit (and just full season renewed) “The Blacklist” followed with a 7.3/12 at 10 p.m., which was 40 percent above year-ago occupant “Revolution” (5.2/ 8 on 10/08/12). Three week overnight track for “The Blacklist”: 8.0/12 – 7.7/13 – 7.3/12.
As predicted, “The Blacklist” is the new hit of the young TV season.
Aforementioned “Dancing With the Stars,” which has certainly revitalized its look and feel this season, led into underrated “Castle,” which finished a comfortable second behind “The Blacklist” in the overnights with a 7.0/12 at 10 p.m. Comparably, that was right on par from one year earlier (while “Dancing With the Stars” dipped by just eight percent). Sadly…and stop reading if you don’t want to know who exited “Dancing With the Stars”…last night was the departure of the courageous Valerie Harper, who is the true definition of the word survivor. Too bad none of her former “MTM” co-star were present to cheer her on.
CBS, unfortunately, continues to lose steam on Monday, which will only be magnified once “How I Met Your Mother” concludes next spring. Overnight results for “How I Met Your Mothers” was solid at a third-place 5.7/ 9 at 8 p.m., which was six percent above one year earlier (and will certainly translate well demographically). But week two of “We Are Men” sunk to fourth with a 3.9/ 6 at 8:30 p.m., which was 15 percent below its already disappointing 4.6/ 7 one week earlier (and only a minor improvement over failed year-ago occupant “Partners”). Given that “Mike & Molly” is waiting in the wings with a full season episode order, “We Are Men” could be the second new series cancellation of the season. Tick, tock…the cancellation clock is ticking.
At 9 p.m., once promising “2 Broke Girls” continues to lose steam on CBS with a 5.1/ 8 (#3t) down by 18 percent from the year-ago evening (6.2/ 9 on 10/08/12). And week three of lead-out “Mom” followed with a compatible 4.9/ 7, which was equal to one week earlier (but down by 12 percent from former time period occupant “Mike & Molly” on the year-ago evening). Three week overnight track for “Mom”: 5.5/ 8 – 4.9/ 7 – 4.9/ 7.
Week three of Eye net drama “Hostages,” meanwhile, continues to bleed with a distant third-place 3.8/ 6 at 10 p.m. Comparably, this was a loss of a hefty 34 percent from “Hawaii Five-O” on the year-ago evening (5.8/ 9 on 10/08/12) with retention out of “Mom” of 78 percent. Three week overnight track for “Hostages”: 5.1/ 9 – 4.1/ 7 – 3.8/ 6. Chances are CBS will end up moving “Hostages” to Saturday before the November sweeps to burn-off its remaining episodes.
Over at Fox, which finished third overall for the night (ahead of CBS), veteran “Bones” (#4: 4.6/ 7 at 8 p.m.) led into episode four of “Sleepy Hollow,” which earned its second season renewal with a 5.0/ 8 (#3t) from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that outdelivered failed year-ago time period occupant “The Mob Doctor” (2.4/ 4 on 10/08/12) by 108 percent. Four week overnight track for “Sleepy Hollow”: 6.1/ 9 – 5.7/ 8 – 5.2/ 8 – 5.0/ 8.
In season-premiere news, “Hart of Dixie” on The CW opened year three with a bland 1.1/ 2 (#5) at 8 p.m., which was actually 22 percent above dying year-ago occupant “90210” (0.9/ 1 on 10/08/12). But relocated “Beauty and the Beast” was DOR (dead on return) at 9 p.m. with a mere 0.7/ 1, which trailed its year-ago series-opener (2.4/ 4 on Thursday 10/11/12 at 9 p.m.) by 71 percent.

Happy for Castle ! the show is steady :)
ReplyDeleteI think household measures work even worse than usual as far as the cw is concerned, so we need to wait on 18-49 ratings for that. Everything else did as expected. FOX, NBC and Castle continue to have good mondays whereas CBS continues to collapse, even though it appears Mom stabilized, which given the continued decline of 2 Broke Girls, really warrants a move to 8h30 following the still strong How I Met Your Mother
ReplyDelete"As predicted, “The Blacklist” is the new hit of the young TV season."
ReplyDeleteDo you want a cookie now, Berman?
Truly have no idea why Blacklist is such a big hit, I imagined moderate success for it but to be as huge as it has surprises and disappoints me.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like it's the new Following in terms of success so far.
ReplyDeleteBatB episode was soooo amazing ...too bad people didn't watched it...it was one of the best season premieres I've ever seen
ReplyDeleteI'm just happy NBC has itself a ratings hit!
ReplyDeleteI thought this thread was about ratings, not about how batb was soooo amazing.
ReplyDeleteI hope Bones stays above a 2.0 since it went down a bit in the household measures. I thought it would either stay the same or go up a bit because of last night's episode.
ReplyDeletewell, i guess they probably all saw it on showcase in canada, or watched it online a day before...
ReplyDeleteRelax
ReplyDeletetoo bad :(
ReplyDeletewow ..come down sweetheart ...the comment was mostly about the ratings...isn't that what everybody is doing ???..comment for the ratings of their shows ???
ReplyDeleteI think I actually checked before and for some strange reason the Pelant episodes are typically lower rated than usual. I think it is likely that casual people are not as drawn in, which would explain why Bones does serialized episodes so little often.
ReplyDeleteBatB crashed - no shock there
ReplyDeleteGreat for Sleepy Hollow and The Blacklist
Seems to be.
ReplyDeleteI adore the show. It grabs my attention tremendously, I don't know what will happen next and I find the characters fascinating. It's an excellent hour that keeps me wishing for more. Happy for its success.
ReplyDeleteAnd a show that seems more stable following The Voice! Maybe it's because of the procedural nature of the show.
ReplyDeleteABC's problem really is the fact that it doesn't have enough "Castles", as in shows that are steady and at a quite acceptable number despite the collapse of lead-ins. Spots like Sundays at 10, Tuesdays at 10, Thursdays at 8, could all use Castle there. The problem is that Mondays at 10 needs it even more.
ReplyDeleteActually, I think the demo will be lower than last week...wich doesn´t surprise me because when Marc Berman lists Castle as a winner, the demo doesn´t match...
ReplyDeleteI´m sure Bones will be above 2.0...and oddly, in Marc Berman world, "honorable mention" usually is better than "winner":)
ReplyDeleteCW
ReplyDelete90210 -P
0.4
1
0.94
Those are the numbers for last years 90210 premiere. Hopefully we are looking at something above .4 for HoD.
I agree, because something, anything would be better than the .3/.2 punch of TCD/90210 I would think.
ReplyDeleteOh well, I guess I'll savor Beauty and the Beast while it lasts. I thought with the new co-show runner, executive producer and the major improvements over last season, it will bring in more viewers. I guess I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteSleepy Hollow, The Blacklist, and Castle all did fantastic. So happy for them.
Oh please, and stop calling people sweetheart.
ReplyDeleteI am,you relax.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry if calling you ''sweetheart'' was rude or something or you don't like it ..... but if you don't mind me asking...why were you so ''aggresive'' to my comment ( which was actually about the ratings )
ReplyDeleteA lot of people seems to have a problem with Pelant.
ReplyDeleteGlad that HIMYM is going strong in it's final season. Looks like Mom has stabilized, though it is still on the bubble for CBS. We Are Men is dead for sure and by the looks of it so is Hostages.
ReplyDeleteThe people that bother to have a problem with him are people that won't miss an episode because he is in it either regardless of what they say.
ReplyDeleteWhy does it's success disappoint you?
ReplyDeleteIts really sad Hostages isnt catching on.. i like it better then all the new shows. I watched first 3 of Sleepy Hallow and stoped watching. Too predictable. I dont like the blacklist at all. Oh well ill keep watching while its on. And not suprised at Beauty and the beast it should of been canceled.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I just hear a lot of complaints about him when people are discussion Bones.
ReplyDeleteWhile true, it doesn't matter for their renewal. If Beauty and the Beast does worse in the ratings than let's say the originals, supernatural, arrow, the tomorrow people, the vampire diaries and one of the midseason shows, it is the likeliest show to be cancelled.
ReplyDeleteBecause I find the show ridiculous (and not in a good way) and so I'm disappointed a show like that can succeed whilst others fail, I'm a bit too judgmental when it comes to TV shows.
ReplyDeleteexcuse me, but where does it say it is an only ratings about thread?????
ReplyDeleteThere are certain factor that influence these crash IMO,
ReplyDelete1. The show being aired in CA and showing in the internet one day before it airs in the USA.
2. Competing against Sleepyhollow (a monster in my POV) the voice and dancing.
3. NY and North Jersey preempted show for Saturday.
The show was actually improved a lot, compared to many things on tv right now they made a big effort. Ill hang around until it last! I liked the show since the getgo! ;)
I know this feeling. I'm disappointed too because the rating hits of this season are shows I don't like.
ReplyDelete"Ratings News - 8th October 2013"
ReplyDeleteAll of CBS comedies dropped two-tenths from last week's final ratings.
ReplyDeleteyes because all Beauty's neilsen box owning fans just couldnt wait to watch and decided to go online instead?
ReplyDeleteBones is pretty steady and if FOX were even a little smart they would forget moving it to Friday and move it to Tuesday at 8 instead cancelling Dads and Brooklyn.
ReplyDeleteprobably too small to really affect the already tiny ratings?
ReplyDeleteCBS should flip Hostages and either TM or TGW. Put Hostages at 10 on Sunday since half the time it will get pushed back and it's basically a loser slot. They could move TM to 9 on Sunday and TGW to Monday or just move TM to Monday to reduce the number of changes. Hostages just has to go.
ReplyDelete(All)
ReplyDeleteBones. :( It's at 2.0, but I didn't except it to fall, at least not that much.
I am laughing so hard at Crappy and the Beast's ratings. A new series low for the abysmal show.
ReplyDeleteRIP Hostages *sigh*
ReplyDeleteThey dropped two tenth but once again pretty solid numbers for Bones and Castle IMO. Also good for Sleepy Hollow & The Blacklist too! I hope they won't drop more
ReplyDeleteHope they move Hostages to some other slot and at least show how the current story ends for the people who are watching it
ReplyDeleteGood now that you finally realise it, and all you "beasties" or whatever can you now stop annoying pimping the show and forcing people to watch it.
ReplyDeleteSaturdays maybe, but CBS rarely does that.
ReplyDelete“We Are Men” could be the second new series cancellation of the season"
ReplyDeleteI guess there are better candidates like Betrayal or Hostages.
While I don't hate The Blacklist, I agree that it has a lot of ridiculous elements that often make it hard to watch. And Elizabeth is possibly the worst agent of all time. But to see this (and Revolution, imo) succeed when amazing shows like Hannibal are struggling to survive is a huge disappointment.
ReplyDeletewhich will happen every week,so good luck batb fans!!
ReplyDeleteWe are men is easier to replace Mike and molly is waiting needing no promotion and with a 22 episode order
ReplyDeleteMy problem with this site lately is that most of the so called "administrators" are in a full attacking on low rated shows with a rabid fanbase. "Adms" should be IMO more of moderators, why you have to come back with a smart comment like that. Really, was it necessary?
ReplyDeleteNot another drop for Sleepy Hollow. :( See why I'm worried now? It still hasn't settled, still dropping. I know they have a season 2 already planned but what about beyond that?
ReplyDeleteKnew Beauty and the Beast would do bad on Monday. Mondays aren't good on the CW (some could argue most days aren't, but especially Monday and Friday, yikes).
Show me where exactly. There are only 2 admins on the site.
ReplyDeleteThe major part of this success belongs to The Voice's huge ratings. Revolution was once a "successful show" too. Look at where it now. NBC essentialy is a network of one show (the Voice), and saying that a show is a success or not is justifiable only when it passes 20 episode mark, or even in the 2nd season at best.
ReplyDeleteI wish Sleepy Hollow would get steady. Viewers are still dropping. Jeez.
ReplyDeleteThe amount of viewers was actually steady. Last week there was an audience of 7.97 M, while this week 7.76 M watched. The share is different this week, that's why it went down. I think it is already starting to settle in. I hope really wanna see it fall down any further.
I love B&TB, but I don't like to make any kind of drama out of such a banal subjects, so, I find really funny that CW's numbers are inflated even though they only got .4...
ReplyDeleteHappy for The Blacklist and Castle I just wish they weren't on at the same time but I think a time change would hurt either show.
ReplyDeletei´m so happy for Castle, is amazing,
ReplyDeleteThose numbers are inflated? :/.
ReplyDeleteHubba, hubba! Castle always! ;)
ReplyDeletethey could just swap Hawaii 5 O and Hostages?
ReplyDeleteI say move it to Friday and burn off all the episodes
ReplyDeleteNOT RELATED TO RATINGS BUT DON'T MISS PRETTY LITTLE LIARS AND RAVENSWOOD OCTOBER 22ND ON ABC FAMILY THANKS 14 DAYS TO GO
ReplyDeleteIknew hostages isn't that good
ReplyDeleteI can only speak for myself...but I found Pelant boring & unrealistic. Generally, when I started watching an episode that would turn out to be Pelant-centric, I'd get bored a few scenes in & end up changing the channel to something else. I'm sure there are plenty of other people who also changed the channel - there's so much to watch nowadays, no reason to watch episodes you don't enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI'm only half way through S8 atm, and have to agree that the whole Pelant thing is a turn off even now. Kinda reminds me of how heavy and boring Patricia Cornwall got with her Scarpetta novels, I just can't be bothered with them any more.
ReplyDeleteFinal Ratings:
ReplyDeleteHIMYM - 3.0 - 7.53
Bones - 2.1 - 7.30
HoD - 0.4 - 1.03
We Are Men - 1.8 - 5.41
Sleepy Hollow - 2.8 - 7.96
2 Broke Girls - 2.3 - 7.26
BATB - 0.3 - 0.86
Mom - 2.1 - 6.86
The Blacklist - 3.1 - 11.18
Castle - 1.9 - 1.51
Hostages - 1.2 - 5.22
Awful AWFUL numbers for BATB. I might as well just DVR it and watch Sleepy Hollow live. There's no point anymore.
ReplyDeleteBATB was, it got adjusted down.
ReplyDeleteCastle is 1.9 & 10.8 viewers
ReplyDeleteMy bad, it was supposed to be 10.51, but I missed a 0.
ReplyDeleteBeauty and the beast is the best!!!! <3 Loved it!!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you Despoina! It's my fav series... and believe me! I've watched some of these "hits"... they are ZERO comparing with Beauty and the Beast!! Kiss ;o)
ReplyDeleteWhy? Are you a shareholder?
ReplyDeleteWhy? It's much better than Hostages. Or ANYTHING on NBC that isn't Hannibal or P&R.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we should panic until after episode 6 or 7, if it's hits 6 million viewers or lower before then I'll be definitely worried. But so far I think every episode hits at least a 3.5 when DVR ratings are factored in. We'll have to wait and see this week.
ReplyDeleteNo, you should definitely be worried. Your best bet is for the new CW shows to fail. If two new shows make it, then its only bet is Fridays. If three shows make it (out of the 5 they are premiering), then it has no shot unless they go for creative scheduling which would be very un-cw thing to do.
ReplyDeleteIt had a ridiculously steady performance from week 2 to week 3. Fact is, it still hasn't fallen 1 full point since its premiere and its episode 4 already (one third of its season). I also wish the drops would stop but the show is fine. However, I am glad it has been renewed cause I don't know how going on hiatus due to baseball will affect its momentum!
ReplyDeleteBones is certainly putting up a fight against its friday move. I still say it's ridiculous to do it when the comedies and glee remain on schedule, at least based on 18-49.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bad idea long term. H50 would perform badly thrown in the monday slot like that with no promotion in the middle of the season. And it would be thrown to fridays again midseason when intelligence comes, but at that point it would likely be too late to settle on fridays too, which is actually doing now.
ReplyDeleteIf things continue like this, I wonder if NBC shouldn't just use the blacklist midseason to rebuild wednesdays and use the voice to launch another thing since they have so many midseason dramas in store. It's probaby too risky though.
ReplyDeleteI was referring to Sleepy Hollow, not the CW shows. (That's why I said 6 mil) :)
ReplyDeleteSorry, you are right. I was distracted while reading, my bad! And yeah 6 million for the cw shows should have hit a button ahah
ReplyDeleteIf you stop watching live you might as well kiss it good bye. It's a shame, because it really is a good show.
ReplyDeleteagreed. some parts of the blacklist just don't make sense. still don't understand why it is getting popular.
ReplyDeleteUnless they are a Niesen family it makes no difference to the ratings if they watch it live or not.
ReplyDeleteNo shock??? Maybe for you...
ReplyDeleteYikes, a 0.3 for a premiere.
ReplyDelete
