Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

For more information on the Nielsen Ratings see this Wikipedia Entry.

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led this second Sunday of the new TV season in the overnights thanks to the mammoth 21.7 rating/38 share for the Denver Broncos at the Dallas Cowboys for the primetime football overrun in the 7 p.m. half-hour. Due to the live nature of the event, all individual program results for the Eye net are approximate.

Granddaddy “60 Minutes,” which was pushed back to 7:30 p.m. (and included some portion of the football game) averaged an estimated 14.8/24 in the overnights from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Next was “The Amazing Race” at an above average 7.7/12 from 8:30-9:30 p.m., followed by “The Good Wife” (#2: 6.8/11) from 9:30-10:30 p.m. and “The Mentalist” at a distant second-place 6.2/12 from 10:30-11:30 p.m. Remember…these are not “clean” overnight averages, with each show including portions of something else in it.

In week two news, ABC drama “Betrayal” dipped to a mere 2.8/ 5 at 10 p.m., which was 20 percent below its already DOA opening one week earlier (3.5/ 6 on Sept. 29) and 24 percent below failed year-ago time period occupant “666 Park Avenue” (3.7/ 6 on 10/07/12). Retention for “Betrayal” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “Revenge” (4.4/ 7), meanwhile, was only 64 percent. While the cancellation clock is ticking, ABC already axing “Lucky 7” could give “Betrayal” a slightly longer shelf life.

“Revenge,” overall, finished a distant third in the 9 p.m. hour with a 4.5/ 7 in the overnights. Comparably, that was 24 percent below the 5.9/ 9 on the year-ago evening.

Earlier in the evening on ABC was a repeat of “Once Upon a Time” at a third-place 1.8/ 3 at 7 p.m., followed by the original installment at a diluted 4.9/ 8 (#3) at 8 p.m. One year earlier, “Once Upon a Time” averaged a 6.2/ 9 (on 10/07/12), which was 27 percent higher.

“Sunday Night Football” was a standout on NBC, of course, with the Houston Texans at the San Francisco 49ers at a estimated 11.3/19 from 8:30-11:30 p.m. Leading into “Sunday Night Football” was pre-game “Football night in America” at a 1.4/ 2 at 7:30 p.m. (#4), a 4.1/ 7 at 7:30 p.m. (#2) and a 7.6/12 (#2) at 8 p.m.

Fox capped off the evening with its animated combination of two repeat episodes of “The Simpsons” (#3: avg. 2.2/ 4 from 7-8 p.m.), the original installment of “The Simpsons” (“Treehouse of Horror XXIV”: #4: 4.1/ 6), “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 2.8/ 4), “Family Guy” (#4: 3.4/ 5) and “American Dad” (#4: 2.8/ 4). Although you cannot judge an animated Fox comedy by the overnights, a year-to-year loss of 17 percent for “Family Guy” (versus a 4.1/ 6 on 10/07/12) could be a concern.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. 2. This is only network TV (ABC, NBC, CW, FOX, CBS)

    ReplyDelete
  3. Notable Erosion:

“Once Upon a Time” (ABC), “Revenge” (ABC)

Can someone explain to me what this ACTUALLY means?

    ReplyDelete
  4. It means the shows are very much down in ratings and it shows.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Ah, thought as much. But I'll wait for the demo

    ReplyDelete
  6. good luck Revenge!!! :")

  7. Let's see how Once upon a Time and Revenge did compared to last week and not last year. Both shows had missteps last season. And they both seem to be regaining their footing especilly revenge.

    ReplyDelete
  8. It means that the demos are down from last year.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I wonder how long will ABC keep Betrayal on air.

    ReplyDelete
  10. What should they do with this time slot? Nothing works there for ABC since a few years.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ouch at Revenge's demos! Hope it adjust up to 2, or that it grows next week!
Luckily it's on its 3rd season, so season 4 is a given, still I'd love to see higher ratings :(

  12. 2.5 for Once Upon A Time doesn't seem to bad, given that was what the show ended up averaging towards the end of last season. Ouch at Revenge at Betrayal.

    ReplyDelete
  13. OUAT dropped only a tenth but will probably be adjusted up.
    Revenge and Betrayal dropped four-tenths.
The Simpsons is even with last week (impressive)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yay for OUAT staying steady!

Betrayal's the next to be cancelled, y/y?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Great für OUAT.

Betrayal is a bigger mess than I expected. Next week it could be under 1.0 and that's abasing for ABC. But what should ABC do with this time slot? Nothing works there since a few years.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh ok you should also add other network rating

    ReplyDelete
  17. Please don't cancell betrayal abc

    ReplyDelete
  18. wow revenge dropped 3 tenths in the half hours

  19. Ouch for Revenge and OuaT, they don't seem to be able to catch a breath. I get why OuaT dipped, I personally stopped watching the moment I thought the show became too much about shipping and gloryfiyng Hook. I can't speak for Revenge I only gave it one episode in season 2 (I'll catch up tough, allready bought season 1 on DVD) but it seems tons of people were dissapointed in season 2.

Generally both shows seem to be suffering from their 'sins' commitet in season 2, I'm hoping that both of them get stable soon.

Betrayal...what shall I say. It's not a bad show, of those this is the only one I actually watch. It's neither special or good but solid and quite entertaining but I don't see ABC keeping it. This timeslot seems to be a pain in ABCs a**.

I'm curious how Once Upon a Time in Wonderland will do, if the mothership is allready sinking I don't see the spin-off doing better (just look at TVD and TO, TVDs poor season premiere didn't exactly help the spin-off).

  20. Cable ratings are posted much later and we directly add them to stvplus.com.

  21. We don't get other Network ratings. Only the Broadcast Networks are sent out.

All Ratings for All Shows and Networks are in the Episode and Ratings Database here -> www.stvplus.com

  22. The Simpsons Is showing why Fox renewed them.It got the best In Demo last night.

Once Upon a Time Is down In overall ratings from last week but holding in Demo.

Revenge Is having warning signs dropped from 8 million range in total viewers to 6 million in total viewers and has dropped to 1.9 In Demo.A shame becasue the show is finding it's footing with return to more season oneish Revenge

  23. You replied to the wrong comment, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  24. not bad rating to ouat i hope ouat rising next week

    ReplyDelete
  25. So sad about revenge, I think last season didnt do the ratings any good, but this season got so much better!

    ReplyDelete
  26. They should just air repeats sun at 10pm. Personally by 10pm on sunday i'm so tired i go to bed early. Even if a good show was on i don't watch it live.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Good for OUAT, just lost 0.1 % since last week ! Let's hope it won't go down too much the following weeks...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Can you spec if TM or TGW are ovah? Cbs never does that good in demos and both in s6 holding stable and sim to last yr. 1 offed? Or neither. I doubt a new show would do as good. And dear hod when will grey's end?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, OUAT did very well!

    ReplyDelete
  30. They will only solve the sunday issue when they move reality there. Until then, problems will persist.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Me too, hopefully it can improve in the next weeks although I am really not hopeful :S It will still be renewed though, in the end it's what matters, as sad as it is to see it falling.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Reality (The Bachelor fall and DWTS Spring) from 8 to 10 and Castle at 10. The entire night would easily be above a 2.0

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think it will air all of its order or close to it to be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, it's very sad, but we have to try to abstract ourselves from it I guess. It could be worse - the third year is the best year for this to happen to a show. Hopefully, it's the last year it has to endure the timeslot and maybe things look brighter in season 4. Let's see what happens

    ReplyDelete
  35. Revenge needs to switch times. First it premieres at the same time as
the breaking bad finale (terrible call) then starting next week it has
to compete with the walking dead. Not going to bode well for ratings

    ReplyDelete
  36. But why did that guy say that it has notable erosion? I know I shouldn't take this guy seriously but he does has the way to make me feel worried...

    ReplyDelete
  37. He is comparing it with the way it was doing last year. While interesting to evaluate the trajectory of a show, it is an irrelevant statistic when it comes to renewal chances.
