———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
The sixth (and final) game of “The 2013 World Series” (Boston 6, St. Louis 1) lifted Fox to an easy Thursday victory, with an estimated (and series high) 12.0 rating/20 share in the household overnights from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, this outdelivered the fourth (and final) year-ago San Francisco sweep over Detroit (10.0/15 on Sunday 10/28/12 – opposite “Sunday Night Football” on NBC) by 20 percent. And it beat a two-hour edition of “The X Factor” on the year-ago evening (5.1/ 8 on 10/31/12) by 135 percent. Keep in mind, of course, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate. Congratulations to the Red Sox!
While the competing networks were on the downside opposite “The World Series,” the erosion was not significant.
Second-place CBS remained on the map with overnight erosion of just four percent from one week earlier with its successful combination of “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” (#2: 5.8/ 9), “Criminal Minds” (#2: 7.3/11) and granddaddy “CSI” (#2: 6.4/11). SPOILER ALERT: If you did not see last night’s episode of “Survivor” yet, you may want to skip the remainder of this paragraph. It was interesting how quickly Hayden got over Kat’s departure, wasn’t it? There was absolutely no way, of course, he was going to trade places with her. And if “Survivor” does decide to incorporate this loved ones theme in future editions (Mark Burnett – do it, please!), I would skip giving out the clue in the opening Redemption Island challenge. And I would give more than one departed player a chance to come back.
ABC took an overall hit, no doubt, due to the encore of “Modern Family,” which finished third at 9 p.m. with a 5.2/ 8 in the overnights. Although retention for lead-out “Super Fun Night” out of the “Modern Family” encore was an improved 75 percent, a 3.9/ 6 at 9:30 p.m. was still a series low for this mindless half-hour of not-so-much fun. Sophomore drama “Nashville” followed with a third-place 4.0/ 7 at 10 p.m., which was equal to one week earlier and only five percent below the 4.2/ 7 on the year-ago evening.
Earlier in the evening on ABC was always reliable “The Middle” at a third-place 5.7/ 9 at 8 p.m., followed by recent entry “Back in the Game” at a now typical 4.3/ 7 (#3) at 8:30 p.m. ABC’s dilemma is housing four freshman sitcoms that are not hits or big misses. They are all in between (and are all worthy of more episodes).
Over at NBC, relocated “Revolution” finished fourth in the 8 p.m. hour, which was 37 percent above the year-ago combination of failed sitcoms “30 Rock” (#4: 2.6/ 5) and “Guys With Kids” (#4: 2.5/ 4). Next was a two-encore encore installment of “Law & Order: SVU” at an uneventful 2.9/ 5 from 9-11 p.m. And The CW capped off the night with its pairing of “Arrow” (#5: 2.0/ 3) and “The Tomorrow People” (#5: 1.3/ 2), which from a young demo standpoint is just not making the grade.

there is nothing written on the tables!
ReplyDeleteStill very good for CBS with Survivor, Criminal Minds and CSI !
ReplyDeleteDo you mean words or numbers in the tables when you say nothing written? I see the words (ie titles of the shows) just fine. If you're looking for the numbers, they never -- never -- come now. The numbers always come around 11:00 a.m. EST. Hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteThank's,i'm so interested how Revolution did!
ReplyDeleteYeah Marc didn't actually write the overnight rating for Revolution. It just says "Over at NBC, relocated “Revolution” finished fourth in the 8 p.m. hour, which was 37 percent above the year-ago combination of failed sitcoms “30 Rock” (#4: 2.6/ 5) and “Guys With Kids” (#4: 2.5/ 4)."
ReplyDeleteRead the "About Section" of the article to get an understanding of how the ratings are updated during the day.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I read it twice to see if I missed it.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'm worried about The Tomorrow People.
ReplyDeleteme too. I guess it just isn't the "new Arrow" that people were expecting :(. I think if TTP remains stable it will get a renewal.
ReplyDeleteIt'll probably need to battle it out with Reign and the mid season shows though.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't be too worried, from the looks right now all three new CW shows will be picked up for a full season. Just look at how they treat Reign (it's still being rammed down your throat) and TTP (Amellsday), I don't see either of these shows biting it
ReplyDeleteThe problem with TTP is it is just not as good as Reign Or The Originals. Both The Originals and Reign are fun to watch plus the acting is better. The acting in TTP is horrid especially Robbie Amell
ReplyDeletedisagreed, Reign is a chore to watch and the acting reminds me of robots talking to each other.
ReplyDeleteIn the acting aspect TTP at least has Mark Pellegrino while Reign has....eh...
Wrong,Reign has Megan Follows,Adelaide Kane,Torrance Combs and Alan Sprang.Mark Pellegrino is the only one in TTP that can act,the rest not so much. The Originals also have castmates that can act.The critics are in love with Reign and Originals so i disagree otherwise
ReplyDeleteisn't Reign supposed to be a limited series?
ReplyDeleteLimited series can always be renewed if they perform well (Under the Dome, Following, etc.).
ReplyDeleteI have to say I have not watched Tomorrow People so cannot comment on that, but I really wasn't keen on Reign at all and thought the acting was really poor...
ReplyDeleteyeah I know they can be renewed, but mac said that they would all get 'full season's, but if Reign is a limited series, it can't.
ReplyDelete10 Episodes were originally ordered, 3 more were ordered on 10th October.
ReplyDeleteI have not watched it, but based on these ratings it will get renewed... doing better than TCD, HOD and BATB - though I am a BATB fan so I would love it if ratings were higher for BATB
ReplyDeleteIf it was doing better, the CW probably would've given it a back order and probably a renewal if it was a major hit.
ReplyDeleteWonder what this means for 'Revolution'.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the first 3 episodes of reign, it aired last night on M3 in canada, and the first 4 episodes of tomorrow people.
ReplyDeleteThe tomorrow people is clearly the better show. Supernatural shows always take time to finding their footing and TTP is getting better with every epsiode. While the lead male Stephanie isn't the best actor the show focuses on the other actors more. The other actors Mark Pellegrino, the guy that plays John, Peyton List they are good actors.
Reign's story is as good as its ever going to get. Every episode simply drags out the storyline that she is in france in danger and trying to marry a king for scotland. She won't get married anytime soon and when she does well history has already told us it goes bad. While I feel that the female lead is stronger the rest of the cast is weak other than the Alan Sprang and Notradusm.
I don't understand why a big part of Arrow's fans skip it.
ReplyDeleteif i ran cw i would have cast adelaide and the actor that plays sebastian as the leads in star-crossed. Those two would have had great chemistry and could have made the show work.
ReplyDeleteanxious for Super Fun Night ratings, they could affect wheather it gets a full season/ additional episodes or timeslot change
ReplyDeleteOriginals and Reign is better and like i said critics agree.TTP is definitely not going anywhere,Just watched the recent episode last night and i stand by my statement. It is very obvious that TTP is poorly written and it is Julie Plec's hobby when not working on The Originals and TVD.Go watch the originals and tell me the difference between the two. That is why the ratings are dropping everyweek. .9,.8,.7...need i say more?
ReplyDeletewell I worked out that if the hour averaged a 2.6 rating, Revolution (being 37 percent above it) would be around a 3.6 rating. So we're looking in the 3.2-3.6 range.
ReplyDeleteNo problem, Darko Zuha. :-) Now you know. I hope Revolution does well and you're happy with its chances. :-)
ReplyDeleteDidn't you just say the other cast members are weak besides Alan and Nostradamus? I am confused.
ReplyDeleteIf so then that's one hell of a leap! Would that keep it at fourth place?
ReplyDeleteI thought it was getting about the same ratings as Arrow?
ReplyDeleteit got a 1.8 rating
ReplyDeleteI meant it would get a 3.6 in Household ratings, not 18-49. It's on par with last week's preliminary ratings.
ReplyDeletenot too bad
ReplyDeleteNO NASHVILLLE :'(
ReplyDeleteOuch 1.4 for Nashville, good as cancelled.
ReplyDeletei cant see the ratings?
ReplyDeleteIt isn't. It has been declining since the pilot while Arrow has been steady.
ReplyDeleteClear Cookies and Cache in your browser and then press F5.
ReplyDeleteSo to clearify yes i said the other cast members other than adelaide, Alan and Nostradamus were weak. But the actor that plays sebastian has chemistry with adelaide. He is also a better actor than the guy from 90201, who was cast as the male lead.
ReplyDeleteI agree,i watched every single episode of 90210 And Matt Lanter is a terrible actor.
ReplyDeleteRevolution has been stable for weeks now, not the best ratings but they're stable and good!
ReplyDeleteSorry to burst your bubble but BATB is a terrible show with terrible actors who have no chemistry.
ReplyDeletethose ratings seem good enough not to be pulled off the air in the middle of the season but not good enough for season 3
ReplyDeleteWhy so low arrow & ttp hopr they adjusted up
ReplyDeleteYikes, The World Series killed everything!
ReplyDeleteNBC is in a sad state
ReplyDeleteVery sad.
ReplyDeleteArrow & Nashville dropped 2 tenths from last week and reached a series low, hope both adjust up in the finals.
ReplyDeleteRevolution got a 1.4 again and seemed to have settled in, while TTP is still dropping. I hope it stabilizes soon.
TTP got 0.6, 1.73 for its fourth episode while Reign got 0.6, 1.84 for its second episode. Plus the state of TBTB and TCD. TTP is still doing good.
ReplyDeleteVery, very sad.
ReplyDeleteOMG revolution stable YASSSSSS
ReplyDeleteand it will be even worse since today is Thursday and Halloween!
ReplyDeleteI see NBC as making headway. They are definitely in better shape than they were 2 or 3 years ago.

Even tho Revolution maintained 1.4 they were still down in viewers.last week they had 5.05mil.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably because a game was on during those nights but I can't be too sure at least I hope that's the case.
ReplyDeleteUgh, not the best ratings for Arrow or The Tomorrow People. I hope it was the World Series effect, and the both rise next week.
ReplyDeleteSuper Fun Night didn't drop as much as I expected without a new Modern Family; only three tenths. And Back In The Game didn't drop at all.
Revolution and Nashville are as good as dead.
Those were scripts, not episodes.
ReplyDeletethey also have a lot of mid season shows waiting in the wings
ReplyDeletewhich begs the question why not just air Halloween specials?
ReplyDeleteAs I see it,Nbc has 37% More with Revolution on Wednesdays than last year with other shows, they should renew it!
ReplyDeleteWhile I am all for Revolution's renewal and while that is a positive, that is not a factor networks take into account when deciding on whether or not to renew it in most of the times
ReplyDeleteI checked and last year Arrow lost steam with the World Series. It only had to face one game but the week afterwards was the per-halloween night in which the 8pm hour viewing is typically depressed. Last year, Arrow went from two straight 1.3s to a 1.1 facing the world series and the a 1.0 "facing" Halloween. It recovered to a 1.3 the following episode and would only hit a 1.0 again in episode 9. Supernatural was the same; it fell to 0.8 and 0.7 during the two weeks in question after two straight 1.0s and it would go back to the 1.0s after these two weeks.
ReplyDeleteIt may not necessarily be representative, especially because, as always, with the CW, ratings information is often misleading, but I think we should disregard these two weeks' ratings when it comes to predicting trends for the shows.
Up would be better but I'll take what I can get ;)
ReplyDeleteUnlikely to be significant. Last week the half hours were also 1.4 and 1.3 if I am not mistaken which would actually indicate a higher non-rounded demo this week. It's meaningless to try to read too much into minor number fluctuations.
ReplyDeleteThat is not necessarily true, depends on where things ends up at the end of the season. I think it's doubtful that NBC can do away with both Revolution and Parenthood.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this. They still have big problems (look at their thursdays) but they are in better shape than they used to be.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it makes no sense, especially since we are then forced to have repeats in perfectly "good" weeks such as in winter january where viewing is actually higher most of the times. It's puzzling.
ReplyDeleteWell, while not a certain cancellation, I think it's trying to make a case of a likely one instead of a bubble show. While I think ABC would like to avoid >5hours of new programming next fall (Betrayal, Lucky 7, Wonderland, Nashville, at least 2 comedies), I think it's gap is getting too big compared with the remaining dramas. But we shall see.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, Arrow hasn't been steady either.
ReplyDeleteI cannot find a straight answer to this. While I thought so, the CW did order additional scripts, so I don't think they were serious about this.
ReplyDelete
