-Ratings Breakdown:
The sixth (and final) game of “The 2013 World Series” (Boston 6, St. Louis 1) lifted Fox to an easy Thursday victory, with an estimated (and series high) 12.0 rating/20 share in the household overnights from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, this outdelivered the fourth (and final) year-ago San Francisco sweep over Detroit (10.0/15 on Sunday 10/28/12 – opposite “Sunday Night Football” on NBC) by 20 percent. And it beat a two-hour edition of “The X Factor” on the year-ago evening (5.1/ 8 on 10/31/12) by 135 percent. Keep in mind, of course, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate. Congratulations to the Red Sox!

While the competing networks were on the downside opposite “The World Series,” the erosion was not significant.

Second-place CBS remained on the map with overnight erosion of just four percent from one week earlier with its successful combination of “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” (#2: 5.8/ 9), “Criminal Minds” (#2: 7.3/11) and granddaddy “CSI” (#2: 6.4/11). SPOILER ALERT: If you did not see last night’s episode of “Survivor” yet, you may want to skip the remainder of this paragraph. It was interesting how quickly Hayden got over Kat’s departure, wasn’t it? There was absolutely no way, of course, he was going to trade places with her. And if “Survivor” does decide to incorporate this loved ones theme in future editions (Mark Burnett – do it, please!), I would skip giving out the clue in the opening Redemption Island challenge. And I would give more than one departed player a chance to come back.

ABC took an overall hit, no doubt, due to the encore of “Modern Family,” which finished third at 9 p.m. with a 5.2/ 8 in the overnights. Although retention for lead-out “Super Fun Night” out of the “Modern Family” encore was an improved 75 percent, a 3.9/ 6 at 9:30 p.m. was still a series low for this mindless half-hour of not-so-much fun. Sophomore drama “Nashville” followed with a third-place 4.0/ 7 at 10 p.m., which was equal to one week earlier and only five percent below the 4.2/ 7 on the year-ago evening.

Earlier in the evening on ABC was always reliable “The Middle” at a third-place 5.7/ 9 at 8 p.m., followed by recent entry “Back in the Game” at a now typical 4.3/ 7 (#3) at 8:30 p.m. ABC’s dilemma is housing four freshman sitcoms that are not hits or big misses. They are all in between (and are all worthy of more episodes).

Over at NBC, relocated “Revolution” finished fourth in the 8 p.m. hour, which was 37 percent above the year-ago combination of failed sitcoms “30 Rock” (#4: 2.6/ 5) and “Guys With Kids” (#4: 2.5/ 4). Next was a two-encore encore installment of “Law & Order: SVU” at an uneventful 2.9/ 5 from 9-11 p.m. And The CW capped off the night with its pairing of “Arrow” (#5: 2.0/ 3) and “The Tomorrow People” (#5: 1.3/ 2), which from a young demo standpoint is just not making the grade.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below)
