-Ratings Breakdown:
Baseball prevailed over football last night, with Game 4 of “The World Series” on Fox, Boston at St. Louis, at an estimated 10.5 rating/16 share from 8-11 p.m. (with the Pre-Game at a 10.6/16). Comparably, that was seven percent above the fourth (and final) match-up between San Francisco vs. Detroit on the year-ago evening (9.8/15 on 10/28/12), which translated into 15.49 million viewers and a 4.7 rating/11 share among adults 18-49, based in the live plus same day data.
Earlier in the evening on Fox was a half-hour NFL overrun at a 16.0/28 in the 7 p.m./ half-hour (#1 for the evening), followed by post-game “The OT” at a dominant 12.9/22 at 7:30 p.m.
Over at NBC was the Green Bay Packers at the Minnesota Vikings at an estimated 9.9/16 share from 8:30-11 p.m., which opposite baseball was below average. Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game Football Night in America at a 1.6/ 3 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 3.3/ 6 at 7:30 p.m. (#4) and a second-place 6.7/11 in the 8 p.m. half-hour. As a reminder, results for any live sporting event are always approximate.
Outside of sports, CBS scored a typical Sunday with its combination of granddaddy “60 Minutes” (#2: 7.8/13), “The Amazing Race” (#3: 5.8/ 9), older-skewing “The Good Wife” (#3: 6.9/10) and “The Mentalist” (#3: 6.2/10), which were all close to year-ago levels.
ABC, unfortunately, bled considerably opposite the increased competition with erosion of an average 29 percent as a result of its line-up of veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#3: 3.3/ 5; -23 percent from the year-ago evening), “Once Upon a Time” (#4: 4.5/ 7; -26), “Revenge” (#4: 3.9/ 6; -30) and recent entry “Betrayal” (#4: 2.4/ 4) which dropped from failed year-ago occupant “666 Park Avenue” (3.5/ 6 on 10/28/12) by 31 percent.

Ouch for ABC.
ReplyDeleteThis saddens me. Last night's Revenge was really good. I think ABC has some serious rehauling to do in terms of switching around it's shows.
ReplyDeleteFootball+Baseball vs. scripted TV is always a uneven fight.
ReplyDeleteI think there's a chance that Revenge won't recover from the self inflicted wounds from last season. I didn't go back this year, not even after hearing that it had improved immensely. I just stopped caring after last year and now I just think it is too late to get back into it.
ReplyDeleteOUAT already made 4,5/7 two weeks ago, and it became 2.4% and 7.5 millions viewer at the end, so it's pretty good for OUAT (better than last week obviously), even if it's far from last year ratings...
ReplyDeleteSo it's probably around similar numbers.
ReplyDelete+ The Walking Dead
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so sad. OUAT and Revenge have been on top of their games lately, this is undeserved. Damn you ABC. Take them out of this hellish night already
ReplyDeleteSTOP FALLING REVENGE!!!!
ReplyDeleteDamn it! I hate to see it on the losers section!
Come on ABC! Do some shuffling! Move Greys to Sunday at 9, move Scandal to 9PM and put Revenge at 10PM Thursdays, that will fix everything!
I think Revenge more than OUAT but yes.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call it self-imposed, well not completely. ABC had its worst scheduling stints last year and the uneven season run didn't help. I did like last season but not as much as now and season 1. It had its highs much more than its lows
ReplyDeleteI don't like Grey's on Sundays. Sundays is not for dramas period. Just do Grey's/Scandal/Revenge on Thursdays and put reality on Sundays.
ReplyDeleteAgree, even though I have been happy with OUAT, but I still agree
ReplyDeleteRevenge doesnt deserve those ratings....its freaking awesome
ReplyDeleteDid anyone really think they wouldn't suffer against sports?
ReplyDeleteBoth Once upon a time and revenge has suffered because of missteps last season.
I liked revenge better last night than OUAT
Very disappointing CBS shows did better than ABC last night
We don't actually know whether they did better or not until we see the 18-49 ratings.
ReplyDeletei really doubt that CBS did better than ABC it hasn't all year.
ReplyDeleteRight. OUAT has normally far better 18-49 ratings than the CBS' shows.
ReplyDeleteThis, thank you!
ReplyDeleteReally hope that those ratingswon't translate to something like in the 1.1-1.4 category I'm pretty sure it's in the loser section.because.the good, wife best it,so I'm sure that the good wife got like a 1.8 and revenge like a 1.5 or 1.6
ReplyDeleteYou cannot extrapolate that from the overnights. We need to wait for 18-49s. Hopefully you're wrong, it would be terrible if it had fallen below 1.5
ReplyDeleteThe Good Wife had quite the buzz last night, I wouldn't be shocked to see it beating Revenge, they were only separated by a tenth I think last week. Also, The Mentalist systematically beats Betrayal. As long as the difference between TAR and OUAT is not too large, which hasn't been, CBS can win it.
ReplyDelete2.2 for Once Upon A Time! I know it isn't anything huge but at least it is up versus last week!
ReplyDeletePoor Revenge. I hope ABC will change her plan for the mid season.
ReplyDeleteOnce Upon A Time is up a tenth.
ReplyDeleteGrey's did well on sundays ( season 1 and 2 )
ReplyDeleteI think the times were different. I don't think Sundays are prone to dramas anymore in the current context. Also, although Grey's is still very strong, I don't think it has it in itself to survive such move. Change back or forth an hour on the same day, sure, but change to a a different day, particularly such a hard one, no.
ReplyDeleteSo why did he list Once Upon A Time as 'Fading Fast' when it is actually up a tenth from last week? I really don't get him sometimes.
ReplyDeleteWhile year to year comparisons are mostly meaningless, OUAT is still drastically down from what was doing at this time last year and that is what he is referring to.
ReplyDeleteI know that, but still! Anyway, glad the show fared well against two major competitions.
ReplyDeleteThe Mentalist is weak in the 18-49 rating but ABC can't beat it nevertheless. That sucks.
ReplyDeleteI think total viewers suggest a possible downwards adjustment for Revenge. Hope to be wrong!
ReplyDeleteI think so, too.
ReplyDeletesunday nights are not good for the shows :( ouat recover but is not good demo i hope adjusted up
ReplyDeleteHoping The Good Wife will get adjusted up, even by a tenth would make me happy. Last night was so good, I really want to see it do a little better.
ReplyDeleteDo you have the half hour ?
ReplyDelete1.5 and 1.4 for Revenge.
ReplyDelete1.5/1.4
ReplyDeleteup at tenth and down in actual numbers. meh

So, Once Upon A Time could adjust up again as it has done the past several weeks!
ReplyDeleteRevenge... :(
ReplyDeleteIt's ironic, the new showrunner did a GREAT job of getting the show back on track after a disappointing second season (although I honestly think it takes more abuse than it deserves), but it doesn't matter because the audience is already gone. The S3 premiere did get a 2.3, but it was probably the weakest episode of the season so far, so even those viewers didn't stick around. This season has been awesome, but if the show drops to the low 1's, ABC will start eyeing the axe. Even the syndication factor doesn't help that much because it's a serialized drama, that isn't likely to perform well in syndication.
I guess it might be for the best even if it gets cancelled, because the storyline is already dragging for too long and it's not clear what they could do with a fourth season. Still, it deserves better numbers in my opinion. Maybe after Betrayal's inevitable swan song, ABC will try Revenge at 10pm? They haven't got anything to lose, really - it's not like they've managed to launch a new show in that slot in recent memory. At 9pm, it's getting killed by TWD and football.
For what it's worth, add me to the list of people who recommend picking the show back up. Granted, I didn't hate S2 as much as most people to begin with, but S3 is definitely stronger. Instead of irrelevant side plots like the Initiative, Emily's foster brother and Charlotte's pregnancy, it's back to the dynamics and manipulations between the core cast (plus 2 new characters). Much more focused.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the two weeks on, three weeks off, three weeks on, two weeks off scheduling is TERRIBLE. The CW made the same mistake in recent years and my poor Nikita suffered for it.
ReplyDeleteI say they should try Revenge at 10pm instead of 9pm, since Betrayal will be gone soon and that will protect Revenge from being crushed by TWD (isn't that like the #1 show on TV right now?).
Agreed. I'm much more attached to Revenge, though OUaT can be entertaining. People hate on Revenge S2 but I'd rather rewatch it 5 times than sit through the second half of OUaT S2 one more time. *shudder*
ReplyDeleteYou know what I've thought for a while now, instead of sending new show after new show to the Thursday 8pm meat grinder, ABC should move Grey's there and sandwich something between Grey's and Scandal. That could be Revenge, but a new show would also have a better chance there. Grey's is an almost decade-old show that can handle the Thursday 8pm slot - a new show doesn't stand a chance.
ReplyDeleteSadly I really hate Aiden and I would have been on board for Jack dying instead of Amanda (Real Emily). I just don't care. I will probably watch the last episode just to see where it goes, but right now, eh.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that last year on and off scheduling was awful!! I much prefer having a long hiatus around and after Christmas than to never know when my shows air. As for season 3, it is indeed a lot better than season 2!
ReplyDeleteLast night was freaking AMAZING. I realize at the end how much I've been holding my breath!
ReplyDeleteCbs always struggles with demo skewing older but overall ratings are great for tm better than ga.
ReplyDeleteSundays are perfect for GA. Not going to be sticking longer the show and have it go sluggishly. It will never do better or stay consistent longer. Very little to lose. But Scandal they would never move it.
ReplyDeleteAdd in Sunday, starting late (cbs looking at you)!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand what you mean. What do you mean with "not going to be sticking longer the show and have it go sluggishly? I don't get it. I seriously doubt that GA can pull better than low to mid 2s on Sundays at this moment.
ReplyDeleteRevenge dropped to 1.4 in the final ratings, GOD DAMMIT :(
