Tuesday 10/22/13 Metered Market Ratings
Clean Sweep for CBS; All Nets Consistent from One Week Earlier

Household
Rating/Share
CBS 10.1/17
NBC 6.0/10
ABC 3.5/ 6
Fox 2.6/ 4
CW 1.5/ 2

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 10/23/12:
CW: +36, NBC: +22, CBS: + 5, Fox: -13, ABC: -39

———-

-Winners:
“NCIS” (CBS), “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (ABC), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (CBS), “The Voice” (NBC), “Person of Interest” (CBS)

-Honorable Mention:
“The Biggest Loser” (NBC), “Chicago Fire” (NBC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“The Mindy Project” (Fox)

———-

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another clean Tuesday overnight sweep for CBS care of “NCIS” (12.2 rating/20 share – #1 for the evening), spin-off “NCIS: Los Angeles” (9.6/15) and “Person of Interest” (8.4/15), which built from failed year-ago occupant “Vegas” (7.2/12 on 10/23/12) by 17 percent. But another Tuesday edition of “The Voice” (#2: 8.2/13 at 9 p.m.) could be strong enough to lift NBC to victory among adults 18-49 (and other key young adult demos). Comparably, “The Voice” increased from lead-in “The Biggest Loser” (#3: 4.7/ 7 at 8 p.m.), which was consistent from its week-ago opener, by 74 percent. And that translated into a very respectable 2.3 rating/7 share in the demo (based on the live plus same day data).

NBC capped off this fourth Tuesday in October with relocated “Chicago Fire” at a second-place 5.1/ 9 at 10 p.m., which was 46 percent above year-ago occupant “Parenthood” (3.5/ 6 on 10/23/12). Although “Chicago Fire” trailed competing “Person of Interest” by 39 percent in the overnights, the race among adults 18-49 will be neck-and-neck.

ABC was virtually identical to one week earlier from 8-10 p.m. with its combination of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (#2: 5.1/ 8), “The Goldbergs” (#3: 3.7/ 6) and “Trophy Wife” (#3: 2.8/ 5), which is a positive for only “S.H.I.E.L.D.” But since all four of the new ABC comedies are lagging this season, that might buy “Wonder Years”-wannabe “The Goldbergs” and worthier “Trophy Wife” more time.

ABC closed the night with an encore of “Shark Tank” at a very distant 2.3/ 4 at 10 p.m.

Excluding a one-tenth of a rating point (or four percent) drop for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” fourth-place Fox was flat from one week earlier. “Dads” opened with a 2.7/ 4 at 8 p.m., which translated into a 1.5 rating/5 share among adults 18-49 last week (according to the live plus same day data), followed by aforementioned “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (2.7/ 4: 1.5/ 4 in adults 18-49 on Oct. 15), “New Girl” (#4: 2.8/ 4: A18-49: 1.8/ 5 on Oct. 15) and “The Mindy Project” (2.1/ 3: A18-49: 1.4/ 4). Since “Dads” is now consistent and Fox knows a thing or two about that type of bawdy humor (think “Married With Children”), a full season episode order should be on the near horizon.

The CW was also on par from one week earlier care of the very compatible “The Originals” (#5: 1.5/ 2), which built by 25 percent from year-ago occupant “Hart of Dixie” (1.1/ 2 on 10/23/12), and “Supernatural” (#5: 1.5/ 2). Chances of a full season renewal for “The Originals” is 100 percent — it is on the way.
