-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC continues to own fourth-quarter on Sunday care of football, with last night’s match-up — Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts — at an approximate (and season high) 17.6 rating/28 share in the overnights from 8:30-11:30 p.m. Comparably, that beat the year-ago match-up (Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals: 11.8/17 on 10/21/12) by an estimated 51 percent. As a reminder, results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game “Football Night in America” at a 2.2/ 4 at 7 p.m. (#3), a 6.2/11 at 7:30 p.m. (#2), and a dominant 10.7/18 at 8 p.m.

CBS also benefited from football with a 17.0/30 in the overnights for a primetime overrun in the 7 p.m. half-hour. Keeping in mind that the individual program results for the Eye net are estimated, next was granddaddy “60 Minutes” at an inflated (and dominant) 11.2/18 from 7:30-8:30 p.m., followed by the regularly scheduled rotation of “The Amazing Race” (#3: 6.6/10 from 8:30-9:30 p.m.), “The Good Wife” (#2: 6.7/10 from 9:30-10:30 p.m.) and “The Mentalist” (#1: 5.6/10 from 10:30-11:30 p.m.).

Elsewhere, ABC continues to bleed by double-digit percentages from the year-ago evening with its line-up of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#2: 3.4/ 6; – 8 percent from one year earlier), “Once Upon a Time” (#3: 4.4/ 7; -27), “Revenge” (#3: 4.2/ 6; -30) and recently introduced “Betrayal” (#3: 2.4/ 4), which was 27 percent below the 3.3/ 6 for failed drama “666 Park Avenue” on the year-ago evening. And Fox finished fourth in each of its six half-hours with encores of “Bob’s Burgers” (1.9/ 3), “Family Guy” (1.8/ 3), two episodes of “The Simpsons” (avg. 2.0/ 3 from 8-9 p.m.), the regularly scheduled installment of “Family Guy” (1.6/ 2) and “American Dad” (1.5/ 2).

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

  1. Let's wait before final numbers come out before making judgements on Once Upon a Time and Revenge. He has history of trying to make them look worse than they are.Plus ignore CW sucess with Originals and Arrow.I am sure supernatural fans will agree with me on him.

    ReplyDelete
  2. ABC need to do something like move Revenge ( Tuesday )

    ReplyDelete
  3. I don't know if that would help.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I hate Sunday ratings ever since the collapse of OUAT and Revenge, so depressing

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think they should move Revenge to Thursdays after Scandal. Do Grey's, Scandal, Revenge. Scandal and Revenge are likely compatible and the competition would be Parenthood and Elementary. I understand that they would want to give the scandal lead-in to a new show instead but there is nothing on the midseason plate that sounds compatible with it or promising. Launch ressurection Sundays at 9 after OUAT, sounds more compatible (even though I think it will still fail, but at least has a better shot)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Honestly I don't get the big drama surrounding OuaT and Revenge, both shows air on a sunday, a day most people either mentally prepare for the hell that is monday or just watch a movie..in short: sunday isn't a good day for television shows. ABC, CBS, NBC know that...even theCW knows that wich is why its not airing original programing on these days.

Also both shows are in their third season, there is always a significant drop after a shows third season if I'm correct but from then on the numbers remain steady.

Frankly I've given up on OuaT (too much shipping for me personally) and have recently gotten into Revenge to see what Oliver Queen is doing when he's not hunting bad guys in Metropolis (the show is quite neat but nothing too special).

Both shows would certainly do better on 'regular' TV days. I'm actually convinced that one or both will be replacing one of falls dramas that fails to make the cut (OuaTiW, Back in the Game) in case the ratings drop too heavily to proove said shows worth.

I wouldn't fear for either shows survival right now.

    The sleeping original has spoken

  7. I know this probably wouldn't fix Revenge's problem, but I still think that ABC should move Once Upon a Time in Wonderland into Revenge's 9pm timeslot and move Revenge to 10pm. Then they should move Betrayal into the Thursday slot where Wonderland currently is.

    ReplyDelete
  8. That is a bad idea IMO as Wonderland would be unlikely to pull anything higher than mid 1s even with the help of the mothership (i.e. it would still be dead) and it would derail Revenge even further.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The cw doesn't air on Sundays anymore because their ratings were crap on that day even more than usual. How come Sunday is suddenly not a good day for television after all these years just because a few shows aren't doing good. Tell that to Sunday mega hits like the walking dead and a show that used to be right on ABC desperate housewives

    ReplyDelete
  10. you do know that AMC is cable, right ? They have different expecations in 'good'

    ReplyDelete
  11. I disagree that it would derail Revenge even more. In fact, I think it may improve it. Season 1 was in a 10pm slot (on a Wednesday) and the ratings were much higher than they were throughout all of Season 2 and 3 so far. And as for Wonderland, the parent show would help as a lead in IMO. Fans of the show parent show will already have the channel on and the only major competition would be TWD. Betrayal is screwed either way you look at it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think we know ABC well enough to know they are not going to move neither Grey nor Scandal this year.. If they are smart, they'll move Grey and Scandal next year, and use them to build new shows, but Revenge at its 4th and probably last season won't get anything but the Sundays at 10PM slot.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Those "different expectations of what is good" talk makes no sense when the walking dead shows up with a 8.4 rating and 2.5 is the best broadcasters can go on the night. As in, their definition of good is much higher than broadcasters.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Whether its on AMC or not 8.2 in A 18-49 and 16 million people is beyond "good" for both cable and broadcast networks. You just made my point that people will watch tv if they want since broadcast networks are available to a larger audience than cable networks yet a show on AMC can get higher ratings

    ReplyDelete
  15. Once is almost stable in these ratings vs. last week, 4.4/7 vs. 4/5/7, and I personally love this season so as long as it's stable, it's good enough for me. It's not going anywhere this year and frankly, considering the issues ABC have with launching new shows in the past 2 years, if they move Grey after Once next year, it has a good enough chance to continue to season 5 too imo.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I agree that Revenge should slid back to 10pm but that would have to be on a weekday and out of a proper lead-in. I think the best you could hope for in Wonderland if moved to Sunday is an increase of about 50% (and that is being very generous, shows don't increase like that when moved to worse timeslots), which would put it at about 1.8. And as I've said I don't believe it would go up this much because people who watch the original know that this show exist so they are not watching because they don't want to, most of them would not watch it just because it comes afterwards. A 1.8 lead-in for revenge instead of OUAT's typical 2.5ish level, combined with a lower viewed hour would mean low 1s. Wonderland would still get cancelled and Revenge would be in even worst shape.

    ReplyDelete
  17. you know with the huge media buzz the walking dead has gathered the numbers aren't really a surprise tough, now are they ?
These two other shows don't receive that kind of buzz or have this rabid following

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree that they won't do it, but I think they should at this point. Everyone involved but Grey's would win, and Grey's would mots likely still survive just fine. Its losses would not be enough to offset the gains from the other shows. I think Scandal, Revenge and Ressurection would perform better with this arrangement.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I also think they should've moved Castle when DWTS was still strong, but well, ABC are known to be.. slow.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm sure they should transfer Reprisal to help Thursdays right after Scandal. Accomplish Grey's, Scandal, Reprisal. Scandal as well as Reprisal are probably suitable as well as the competition would be Being a parent as well as Primary. I realize that they can would like to provide scandal lead-in to a brand new demonstrate alternatively although absolutely nothing is about the midseason plate in which seems compatible with it or ensuring. Kick off ressurection Sundays on 9 right after OUAT, seems more suitable (even although I'm sure it is going to nevertheless fail, although at the least features a much better shot)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Once is still doing good enough imo, and when it comes to Revenge, I just learnt to accept it, and I have to admit that in Revenge's case, ABC are not at fault but the bad writing last season is.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Shame about Revenge its been much better this season, hope it can get renewed for a final season or the writers get to wrap it up properly this season.

    ReplyDelete
  23. So now your excuse is that they don't get enough buzz which is why their ratings are low. Do you really think if they were on another night they would have more buzz. These are just bad excuses

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't mind that non-move so much seeing how DWTS has declined and Castle was able to hold very well in a very hard timeslot despite the lead-in troubles. Yeah a new show could have taken advantage of a still ok DWTS and hit and did the same but it is far from certain, it could have bombed as well. There are worst "non moves" in ABC schedule for me. For instance, how they still put serialized dramas on Sundas and not move DWTS there is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. They could've used that timeslot to build two shows instead of just one. These kinds of slow decisions are the reasons why ABC haven't been able to build many hits in the past years imo, and I hope they don't repeat these mistakes and use Scandal's success to launch a new show following it next year.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think it'll get renewed. ABC has other shows to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  27. wow, getting a bit hostile here, are we ?
I don't 'excuse' anything, both shows survival or end mean literally nothing to me. Still I gave my opinion.

No, both shows don't receive the insane hype TWD or Breaking Bad got, both shows are critically acclaimed and treated like a religion on the internet. That this is going to attract more and more viewers is inevitable.

If OuaT and Revenge would receive this kind of internet buzz that'd still not be enough tough, at least Revenge misses the certain hook. For TWD it's zombies and for BB it was the weird and so far unexplored setting/storyline.
Once might do well because of the fairytale aspect but most people are 'too adult' for that already ;)

Thing is: BB and TWD live from the buzz created around them, so does Game of Thrones and so do most cable shows.

Clearly Breaking Bad was better than Revenge and Once Upon a Time, I won't battle you on TWD because it's only two episodes in season 4 and while I loved the season premiere I'm kinda growing sick of the prison and certain characters, but quality rarely creates ratings. Buzz does

    ReplyDelete
  28. Last week, it was 4.1/6 for Revenge. It's still low, but I am proud of this tiny improvement. Revenge and The Good Wife deserve HUGE ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't stand the way you're writing your article... We don't care of what Once or Revenge did last year, all that matters is what they're doing this week compared to what they did last week ! Because this two shows will obviously never do again the ratings they did one year ago !

    ReplyDelete
  30. Respectfully disagree. I happened to really enjoy the second half of season 2 but even putting my personal preferences aside, Revenge ratings were:

    3.2, 2.6, 2.6, 2.8, 2.7, 2.7, 2.5, 2.4, 2.4, 2.0, 1.7, 1.4, 1.8, 2.0, 1.8, 1.8, 1.5, 1.7, 1.8, 1.7

If you exclude the premiere, the ratings for the first 10 episodes never moved from the 2.4-2.8 range, which is a pretty acceptable range. However, on 1/13, when facing the globes, they fell to a 2.0, a 20% drop from its previous season low and previous episode. A week later, facing the NFL they fell 18%, new series. Another week, facing the Grammys, they fell 21%! During these sole 3 episodes, the show fell 1 full ratings point, a shocking 71% episode across 3 episodes!!!

    Coincidentaly, OUAT's ratings:

    3.9, 3.4, 3, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 2.7, 3.1, 3.1, 3.1, 2.8, 2.4, 2.2, 2.4, 2.2, 2.3, 2.3, 2.2, 2.1, 2, 2.2, 2.3

Again, if you exclude the premiere (and the random drop for episode 7 for which the show rebounded instantly, the show never moved from the 3.1-3.4 range during its first 10 episodes. Then, on the same 1/13, when facing the globes, it fell to a 2.8, a 11% drop. Next week, NFL, a 17% drop. Another week, now the Grammys, another 10% drop. Again, in the same 3 weeks, the show fell 0.9 from the previous bottom range it was at, a 41% drop!

Granted, neither show recovered well, especially Revenge (which afterwards amidst its recovery still had the present of a non lead-in week when facing the finale of twd and the premiere of got), but you cannot tell me that schedule wasn't the main issue here. These drops are completely absurd, no veteran show fall this much amongst regular reason. Quality could have been perceived as bad, but it is not reasonable to say that everyone realized that quality issues in these 3 weeks (it would be okay if there was a dropping trend since the beginning of the season, which there wasn0t) and that everyone realized that the shows had issues in the exact same 3 weeks. Quality could have hammered post-recovery but the shows wouldn't need to recover if ABC hadn't put them in this situation to begin with.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Don't get your hopes up. Often, household improvement equals demo deterioration week to week, I've learned that myself at my own cost.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It will get renewed due to syndication, yes. And for whatever it's worth, it should still be ABC's 6th drama and 8th scripted show when all is said and done, not that that is very good but well.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Those decisions pay off sometimes and don't payoff other times. Revenge is an example of it not paying off. It's also unclear if any show had the potential to take advantage of the DWTS lead-in in a meaningful way that they believed was worth potentially messing up with Castle. I never saw it as the no brainer that everyone saw it personally.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I know, I know but I want to be optimistic for once.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Actually they could and should be doing as well if not better than a year ago. And just so you know, this is how the industry as a whole judges their shows, its not just Marc Berman...

    ReplyDelete
  36. On average ,scripted shows have been declining more or less 10% per year ratings wise. Granted, OUAT and Revenge have had way bigger than this typical drop, but to say that they should be doing as well if not better than a year ago is not realistic, almost no show can organically do such thing. Most shows that do grow (and they are few to begin with) are due to a timeslot improvement or due to some buzz explosion a la Scandal (I would only classify the latest as organic growth). Stable or falling less than the average league is the new "stable", so it is not realistic to expect them to do better than they were doing.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If anyone is interested, here is the rating's comparison of OUAT and Revenge:

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is just depressing..

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't even like ratings on Mondays anymore, it's too annoying

    ReplyDelete
  40. Might be adjusted up, and tie last week.

    ReplyDelete
  41. ABC really killed this+OUAT by putting them against the Grammys/Golden Globes etc. If ABC never did that OUAT would still in the high 2's/low 3's and Revenge in the low to mid 2's

    ReplyDelete
  42. It was a mistake to set OUAT and Revenge against all the big events last year. I guess ABC knows this. It's bitter but it happends.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sunday bloody Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  44. ABC really needs to change the day for ouat and revenge this numbers are awful

    ReplyDelete
  45. With ABC failing to launch more than 1 decent drama this year and only having mediocre success with Nashville last year, I think Revenge is safe. I don;t think they can afford to loose more shows. When it comes down to it, ABC has a timeslot problem. They have good shows but they dont rate and they've let the timeslots slide giving viewers chances to go to other networks

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree with this (just wrote an extensive post with the numbers below)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I wonder if the angst currently about Ouat + Revenge on Sundays equals the angst of The Good Wife + The Mentalist on Sundays....

    ReplyDelete
  48. Nashville was nominated for 2 Emmys plus they have great DVR numbers and music sales on itunes (the song by the Stella sisters from last episode hit #1 on itunes) and Pauls Lee loves the show.... I personally think they should keep both shows.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think Once is gonna be adjusted up (as every week), but 2% it's not really good, even if it's one of the best rate of the evening...

    ReplyDelete
  50. To be honest I would just quarantine Sundays for the remainder of the season. They would never go for it but I would move Revenge to Thursdays after Scandal and OUAT to Tuesdays after Shield. It's better than the craziness that is going on right now and they will loose both shows at this rate.

    ReplyDelete
  51. i saw the rating in end of night once was 2.1 but still not good :S

    ReplyDelete
  52. I love Nashville, didnt mean to like sound negative, i was just stating the facts soley based on ratings. But yeah I think they should keep both. Creatively they are very nice

    ReplyDelete
  53. At least OUAT is the strongest non-sport-show. Damn Football.

    ReplyDelete
  54. DAMNIT the Mentalist was spectacular last night. The perfect drama. I wonder if the little loss has to do with CBS twitter saying it starts at 10:30. Ugh this show has no chance with Sun death slot. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  55. That's too bad. Sunday def killed this show.

    ReplyDelete
  56. tell me about it i did not expect it to get a 1.5 i thought that it was going to get like a 1.7-1.8 at least but not this low, nielsen viewers suck i wish that they didn't base the ratings system on nielsen, every critic and fan seemed to have loved last episode, i don't think that syndication could save it if it drops any further than that i will just enjoy it while it lasts

    ReplyDelete
  57. @doublej Why are you posting that here?
