NBC 8.5/13
Fox 5.0/ 8
CBS 4.8/ 7
CW 0.9/ 1

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening – Monday 10/01/12:
Fox: +35, NBC: +18, CW: no change, ABC: – 2, CBS: -11
———-
-Winners:
“Dancing With the Stars” (ABC), “The Voice” (NBC), “The Blacklist” (NBC)
-Honorable Mention:
“How I Met Your Mother” (CBS), “Sleepy Hollow” (Fox), “Castle” (ABC)
-Losing Steam:
“2 Broke Girls” (CBS)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“We Are Men” (CBS), “iHeartradio Music Festival” (CW), “Hostages” (CBS)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC inched past NBC by one-tenth of a household rating point for overnight Monday dominance, but the home of “The Voice” will own the adult 18-49 demographic (and other key young categories). “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC won the 8-10 p.m. block, with a 9.3 rating/14 share. Comparably, that was just two percent below the 9.5/14 one year earlier (on 10/01/12). And competing “The Voice” scored an 8.9/13, which was 11 percent above the year-ago evening (8.0/12 on 10/01/12). Needless to say, “The Voice” will dominate the evening in the key demos and “Dancing With the Stars” is still a solid older-skewing option.
Leading out of “The Voice” was week two of drama “The Blacklist,” which dominated the 10 p.m. hour at a 7.7/13 (and 96 percent retention from its week-ago debut, 8.0/13 on Sept. 23, which translated into 12.58 million viewers and a 3.8 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 according to the live plus same day data). Comparably, “The Blacklist” beat the competition (“Castle” on ABC: 7.1/12; “Hostages” on CBS: 4.1/ 7) by 8 and 88 percent, respectively, in the overnights. And it outdelivered year-ago occupant “Revolution” (5.4/ 9 on 10/01/12) by a hefty 43 percent.
“Hostages,” meanwhile, declined by 20 percent from its already disappointing debut last Monday (5.1/ 9), which translated into 7.41 million viewers and a 1.8/ 5 among adults 18-49. And its 4.1 overnight household rating was 24 percent below year-ago time period occupant “Hawaii Five-O” (5.4/ 9 on 10/01/12). Sorry CBS – “Hostages” is a huge miss.
In series-premiere news, CBS sitcom “We Are Men” was off, but not necessarily running with a fourth-place 4.6/ 7 in the overnights at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, that dipped from lead-in “How I Met Your Mother” (5.7/ 9 at 8 p.m.) by 19 percent. And it was only a slight improvement from the debut of failed year-ago occupant “Partners” in the overnights (4.5/ 7 on 9/14/12). Given the ample promotion, “We Are Men” looks like another miss for CBS.
Also lacking on the Eye net was once formidable “2 Broke Girls” (#3t, 5.2/ 8 at 9 p.m.), which slipped by 15 percent from one year earlier (6.1/ 9 on 10/01/12), and week two of sitcom “Mom” (#4: 4.9/ 7 at 9:30 p.m.), which was down by 11 percent from its week-ago opener (5.5/ 8 on Sept. 23) and off by 16 percent from year-ago occupant “Mike & Molly” (5.8/ 8 on 10/01/12). The moral of this story: CBS has sprung a leak on Monday, and part of that erosion stems from the unexpected success of “Sleepy Hollow” on Fox.
In week three news, “Sleepy Hollow” finished third in the 9 p.m. hour with a respectable 5.2/ 8. Comparably, that was just nine percent below last week’s 5.7/ 8 (which translated into 8.59 million viewers and a 3.1/ 8 among adults 18-49), and it built from veteran lead-in “Bones” (#4: 4.8/ 7 at 8 p.m.) by eight percent. One year earlier, failed drama “The Mob Doctor” was off the charts at a 2.5/ 4 in the overnights. If “Sleepy Hollow” settles in now, Fox can chalk up a new hit. Three week overnight track for “Sleepy Hollow: 6.1/ 9 – 5.7/ 8 – 5.2/ 8.
Last, and very least, was night one of the “iHeartradio Music Festival” on The CW at a mere 0.9/ 1 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m.

Woo go The Blacklist and Sleepy Hollow!! :D
ReplyDeletePleased to see both Blacklist adn Sleepy Hollow doing well.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Blacklist! :)
ReplyDeleteSleepy Hollow, please stabilize soon! :o
I hope Sleepy Hollow stabilizes where it is. The Blacklist appears to be doing quite well from whatever the overnights are worth.
ReplyDeleteYay for The Blacklist and Sleepy Hollow!
ReplyDeleteGood for The Blacklist! The fact that it isn't a serialized show may work in its favor.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think it is a smart strategy for these shows to be majorly procedural in the first couple of seasons and then go heavy on the serial element later on when syndication is closer and the fanbase is more stable. It's what Fringe did. I also suspect (for whatever the spoilers are worth) that Grimm is about to do that.
ReplyDeleteBones got the same rating as last week. :( But hopefully it will be at or above 2.0 this week.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Person of Interest too has a blend of both 'POI of the week' and 'Serialized' storylines which work extremely well for the show!
ReplyDeleteouch at 1.4 for hostages good thing i didnt watch it till i saw ratings
ReplyDeleteYeah that's another example
ReplyDeleteWow those top25 markets are dreadful for CBS. Only How I Met Your Mother is performing. They need to do something asap. I never expected Mom or 2 Broke Girls to do that bad. I also hope that Sleepy Hollow is higher than that. While it would still be a very good rating, the declining trend is a bit too fast for me to feel safe about it.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened to The Following which seemed to level out at the high 2s by the end of the season.
ReplyDelete2.0 is good with that competition!!
ReplyDeleteAnd for a show in its 9th Season!
ReplyDeleteYeah, you are right. The Following actually went from a 3.3 on its second episode to a 2.9 on its third, so sleepy hollow wouldn't be too bad with this decline. I still hope it didn't fall this much. Two weeks ago, it was 0.2 higher in finals than it was in top25 I think, so we can hope for the same here
ReplyDeleteYes!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah it is good for sure, but if there was a time for the show to perform slightly better it would be now so as to prevent its move to Fridays! I thought it had a decent chance when it looked like the x-factor would implode with the competition but now I am doubtful. Still, I think Bones will do a pretty solid job on Fridays, it wouldn't shock me to see it winning the 8pm hour there and it should still get its 10th season provided that David and Emily are willing to come back.
ReplyDeleteSame here. And remember the T25 markets change when the actual numbers come in.
ReplyDeleteYeah I know, that is why I was saying that I was hoping for a higher number than this one like we had two weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteI think Bones is gonna be moved to Fridays no matter what...Even yesterday in the episode, they put an Almost Human slogan saying November 4 7/8. I hope this secured a 10 season. I think Emily and David are willing to come back.
ReplyDeleteBut these are just the top 25 markets so it still has a chance to go up a little more. And yes, I know it could also go down when the prelims come out, but I'm hopeful that it won't.
ReplyDeleteI also think it will happen but I think it is a mistake on FOX's part. In my humble opinion, Bones should be moved back to Thursdays instead. Glee already premiered to a 2.0 and will soon collapse even further after people tune out when the Cory Monteith tribute episodes are over. My opinion is that FOX would be better served by moving Glee back to tuesdays a 8 where it would be good counter programming against the male skewing stuff going on (as opposed to going head to head with Grey's Antomy and fighting for the same W18-34 that it won't get) and let Bones have the Thursdays at 9 spot. But it will never happen.
ReplyDeleteYeah I know that. And while I hope it goes up, I don't think a 2.1 or a 2.0 makes any difference for its future right now. I think it would have to circle around a 2.4/2.5 for FOX to consider leaving it on a weekday at this point, rightfully or not.
ReplyDeleteI think Bones and Castle are doing pretty good job. I mean it's Bones's 9th and Castle's 6th season. Also agree with most of the people: they'll renew Bones for 10th season BUT they'll move to Friday anyway. Btw i'm really happy for Sleepy Hollow!
ReplyDeleteIt's incredible what's happening to CBS... a few years back they absolutely dominated Monday nights.
ReplyDeleteI agree, they are doing a very good job at holding their own in very tough spots with minimal advertisement from their respective networks.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Awesome for The Blacklist staying in the 3.0 range! I am really loving it so far. Also, Sleepy Hollow still going strong in week 3. Hopefully it doesn't drop too much. Castle is back to it's normal numbers. Oh well, it's still doing good.
ReplyDeleteYeah it really is. I never thought they would be doing this poor. At this point, I think we can see them sticking with one hour of comedy here next year and launching a new drama at 8 or 9. For this year, I think they should cancel We Are Men right away, move Mom to 8h30 and put Mike and Molly at 9h30. Maybe give Mom a special episode behind Big Bang to try to draw in more viewers.
ReplyDeleteBoohoo for Hostages! Totally undeserved! They should have higher ratings!
ReplyDeleteI feel really bad for 2 Broke Girls. It's had to deal with Partners and We Are Men imploding, which in the end has affected it's own ratings. CBS need to do something right away to save 2 Broke Girls otherwise we could be looking at it's 4th and final season next year :(
ReplyDeleteI think it is not okay to blame everything on the lead-ins it has had, I believe there was some organic damage in there. A big proof of this is the fact that last week it did very poorly after a very well rated How I Met Your Mother - no partners or we are men there in the meantime! However, I truly believe the terrible lead-ins have helped quite some to damage the show and that was shown when the show spiked last year when it had big bang at 8h30. I think putting Mom at 8h30 would help a bit provided it could take advantage of that How I Met Your Mother lead-in. So, I think it is a mix of both.
ReplyDeleteVery unlikely that 2BG will get cancelled, after this season, it will have 66 episodes, that would mean it would need 1 more season to get it to 88 which is about the point of syndication.
ReplyDeleteThe ratings would have to totally implode for CBS not to renew it for a 4th Season.
I think you misunderstood the previous point! CrimTV was fearing that the show would be cancelled after the 4th season, so with 88 episodes. So it would already be syndicated. That being said, I also say that is somehow unlikely, as 100 episodes make for a considerably better syndication package than 88 and it requires just 13 ep season which can always be used even as spackle. A lot can change until then though, for the better or worse. This year, I agree with you that its ratings would have to completely implode as in sub 1.5 most likely for it to be cancelled.
ReplyDeleteAh sorry, yes, I misread/understood the post ;)
ReplyDeleteNo problem!
ReplyDeleteyeah I agree, but if CBS really wanted this to be the long-running comedy hit that it could've been when it premiered, they need to do something to help it. I really believe they should've put it behind The Big Bang Theory
ReplyDeleteIt's a complicated argument. There is often the case that I can say that I believe the network should have done this and that but here it is not clear to me. Your argument is that they should have left Two and a Half Men on Monday and moved 2 Broke Girls to Thursdays. While 2 Broke Girs itself would have certainly gained, I think Two and a Half Men would have done worse last year than 2 Broke Girls did to be honest. It pulled practically the same rating that 2 Broke Girls did last week (0.1 difference) after a higher rated lead-in (3.3 vs. 3.9) facing less competition (Grey's, Michael J.Fox and Glee vs. The Voice strongest hour, Sleepy Hollow and DWTS). This could have potentially brought down Mike and Molly with it and even H50 to a greater extent. The thing is that we have to look at the overall result for the network instead of the result for a show. My opinion here is that they really got screwed by the poor comedy development last year with only Partners emerging. I think they would have been better of "wasting" the big bang lead in for one more year in Partners and Rules (which, in absolute numbers, would still do a pretty competent job propped by TBBT) and left BOTH 2 Broke Girls and Two and a Half Men holding down the forth on Mondays. It is the best way I can think of to maximize the ratings of both nights.
ReplyDeleteThis being said, this is in insight. Two years ago, I didn't expect 2 Broke Girls to fall down by this much, so the move, although risky, had a lot of upside potential and I could understand them going for it.
Yay Blacklist. Hostages, I don't think you're gonna last the season.
ReplyDelete2.2 for Bones! Steady as she goes!
ReplyDeleteHell yeah motherfucker!!! GO! BONES!!! ♥
ReplyDeleteAnd good for Sleepy Hollow! FOX have yet another hit Drama on their hands!
ReplyDelete3.0 for Sleepy Hollow YAY!!! Also i have to say, honestly, i didn't expect 2.2 for Bones i thought it'll be 2.0 or sth. Happy for them too!
ReplyDeleteHappy for The Blacklist.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree, I think the idea of keeping TAAHM and 2 Broke Girls on Mondays would've worked. But yes of course moving 2 Broke Girls would've probably done and would do very well behind TBBT, but yeah Mondays would still be screwed. I think with NBC suddenly becoming victorious with The Voice and Revolution/The Blacklist and FOX actually taking the night seriously has lead to their downfall (CBS)
ReplyDeleteHope Sleepy Hollow stays with these numbers.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Fringe, Person of Interest and Grimm are like that. Really smart strategy.
ReplyDeleteGreat for The Blacklist, only dropped 0.2.
ReplyDeleteDecent for HIMYM. Not so much for 2 Broke Girls and Mom (which I kinda enjoyed today).
We Are Men is the worst comedy premiere for CBS, will be cancelled in three episodes.
Yeah, you have a point there, I agree with you that the increased competition was a huge factor. But they were exposed to that. Older shows have typically less fickle audiences, so their numbers can be taken more serious. 2 Broke Girls was probably able to do so well right out of the gate partially because its competition was weak. But it was still too young to have much of an established audience that would withstand increased competition dynamics. Two and a Half Men should have sustained it a little better, even though the show was already declining, so it is a mute point.
ReplyDeleteScrew CBS. The ONLY great shows on this network is Person of Interest (and possibly and to a lesser extent, How I Met Your Mother).
ReplyDelete(All)
ReplyDeleteBones. :) And hopefully it will be adjusted up.
Whoever said Blacklist list will not do good...suck it..
ReplyDeleteYay for Sleepy Hollow! So happy it's doing this well.
ReplyDeleteHell yeah!
ReplyDeleteExcellent night for FOX and NBC! The Blacklist and Sleepy Hollow's retention week to week is amazing! They are barely down, people really liked what they saw! So happy for them! CBS did beyond awful, I never thought we would see them doing this poorly on a monday. How I Met Your Mother continues to be the only bright spot and even that was quite down. Castle also did very well IMO.
ReplyDeleteGood for Castle !
ReplyDeleteI feel sad for humanity when we still have to say "Whoever disagreed with me can suck it, [enter something here] is awesome and the ratings prove it!"
ReplyDeleteLike it, say so. Don't like it, still say so. Go all "I told you so"-bombing in each other's faces, that's just immature.
At the moment, CBS seems to be the loser of this new season.
ReplyDeleteIts week-to-week retention is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's all a matter of expectations, surely, but I think they are having a disappointing season.
ReplyDeleteThe trend is extraordinary so far!
ReplyDeleteYeah FOX had an excellent night. I hope baseball doesn't ruin the momentum that Sleepy Hollow has going for it. It did really hurt New Girl two years ago and this one is a drama, so I would hate to see it happen!
ReplyDeleteThey have kept way too many shows for way too long. End Two and a Half Men, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and a few others I have forgotten the names of right now, and bring on some brand new talents for the world to see. I want something fresh, new and addictive, not a damn 77th season of shows that lost its original cast a long time ago. So yes, I also believe CBS is losing at this time in the new season, but things can always change.
ReplyDeleteCan someone explain to me the different between a serialized show and a procedural show? How many kinds of categories are there to define a TV show by?
ReplyDeleteYou may love it despite its ratings. I find it exhillirating, and although I am prepared for a cancellation, I am going to keep watching for as long as it airs.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to put "in my opinion" someplace there. Because your opinion is not everybody's opinion, it is certainly not law, and CBS is better than you think.
ReplyDeleteI am already calling it We Are Cancelled hahaha.
ReplyDeleteDramas can typically be procedurals (if most of the content of the episodes is standalone, as in, you can jump in and watch with no problems... these are typically cop shows such as NCIS, CSI, Castle, Bones, etc. or lawyer shows, sometimes medical shows like House, etc.) or serialized (if for the most part you need to watch all episodes to understand what is going on and there is a strong link between one episode and the next one... examples would be Lost, Revolution, Revenge, etc.). Of course even procedural shows have on-going arcs usually involving the personal lives of characters or bigger bads or something like that, but there is still a clear distinction in most cases. Then you have shows that are sort of hybrids (The Good Wife, the late portion of Person of Interest, Seasons 3 and 4 of Fringe) in which there are individual cases in each episode but there is an ongoing plot that takes over a good portion of the episode as well. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteMom, We Are Men and Hostages are basically cancelled question is will when will CBS yank them of the schedule?
ReplyDeleteI think Mom still has a chance somehow, albeit not a great one. The other two are dead shows walking.
ReplyDeletedisappointing for CBS but on average their shows even the ones that arent doing well with the exception of Hostages would likely be considered ok for any other net.
ReplyDeleteHappy to see that Sleepy Hollow and The Blacklist already seem to be settling down.
ReplyDeleteWith this day and age I think that the concept of "Procedural" and "Serialized" shows don't only fall under dramas. Comedies are often procedural while some shows are slowly becoming more and more serialized.
ReplyDeleteGood point. It's much more diluted but there is still some degree of procedural/ serialized to comedies, yeah. Season 2 of Suburgatory or the whole series of HIMYM is an example of serialized comedies whereas Modern Family is much more of a procedural comedy for instance.
ReplyDeleteActually I'm with Hermann... the only CBS show on my watchlist is PoI so I'm not sad they're not doing well this season. ;)
ReplyDeleteDude. ..It was all in a good faith...It's not my problem u take it so seriously. ..
ReplyDeleteFeeling sad for humanity the basis of a post.. What will happen to u in the real world...jeez
Well, that escalated quickly. I laughed at your last sentence, so basically you think anyone who has a problem with what someone else says is immature? The NSA (and pretty much everyone in the world, I think) disagree. But good luck to you in your bubble of reality with that attitude.
ReplyDeleteCan we talk about the fact that Castle beat his own lead in!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sad either. CBS is way too cocky, and needs to be taken down a few steps, but going as far as saying "The ONLY great show" is silly and factually incorrect. This season is not looking good for them, but they have, like you said, dominated broadcast television for years.
ReplyDeleteYes, Castle did very well. It held its own facing the blacklist, it outrated its lead-in and it grew in raw numbers year to year.
ReplyDeletehmm, I loved that episode of 2 Broke Girls last night. it was one of the best, for sure. Hope that it will better ratings in the next weeks. It's a fact that CBS got a little more competion this year in monday nights. We are Men will totally be cancelled, and Hostages probably too.
ReplyDeleteExactly my thought. Sleepy Hollow dropping every week is getting on my nerves. ha
ReplyDeleteAlright man..forget it. I'mThe immatureone. ..Let's call a truce ...No hard feelings
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering what Castle's scores would be if she had The Voice as a lead in..
ReplyDeleteDropping 0.1 from its second to its third episode (with possibility of adjustment nonetheless) is almost the synonym of not dropping, it's exceptional week to week retention for a newbie!
ReplyDeleteMy bad man...I said a little too much. .Let's call a truce yeah. .No hard feelings
ReplyDeleteI am actually shocked that Blacklist dropped so little. That is amazing retention of last week's premiere considering the large numbers.
ReplyDeleteThis bummed me out a little:
ReplyDelete"Last night’s Monday Night Football
game (Dolphins/Saints) was simulcast on the CW affiliate in Miami and
the NBC affiliate in New Orleans. As a result, NBC and the CW numbers
may be inflated and subject to more than typical adjustments in the
finals."
which would be impossible considering they are on different networks....
ReplyDeleteYeah I know, I was just being curious if the two were on the same network..
ReplyDeleteAahh..
ReplyDeleteMaybe that is partly the reason then.
I expected it to retain high ratings, but not such a low drop...
Wait and see I guess.
bring back 5-0 for Monday in Hostage place? if Hostage is gone
ReplyDeleteI agree. Mom isn't a complete disaster but Hostage and We Are Men are really fast sinking ships.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of the show but I think it would be bad for it long term. It should have not been sent to Fridays, but since it is here now, it is better to let it there. Intelligence will premiere on the winter no matter what so if CBS were to send H50 back to Mondays now and then send it to Fridays again in winter, it would confuse viewers a lot and loose a lot of tracking. It would ruin its chances of establishing itself on fridays, which it appears to be doing quite well judging by last friday. I know the temptation to want it back on mondays is big, but let it remain on fridays, it's better for the show!
ReplyDeleteThey had it coming, to be honest! They wanted to dominate two comedy nights, so they shifted their sitcom with the biggest rating to Thursday, leaving HIMYM and Two and a Half Men to anchor Monday night, and then they made Two Broke Girls the 9PM anchor way too early!
ReplyDeleteAfter adjusted finals....The Blacklist adjusted down 3 tenths to 3.3 in the demo. Still good but ouch on the 3 tenths.
ReplyDeletecastle competition bring the numbers down.......Friday seem better
ReplyDeleteCBS bring back Mike and Molly to Mondays. It was stupidity to mess with a winning formula anyway with that and 2 Broke Girls doing really well every week.
ReplyDeleteTHIS!!
ReplyDeleteI hope they air the rest of Hostages. I really want to know how it all plays out. They are way to quick to cancel shows these days. Its all about the money...
ReplyDeleteCastle is loosing ratings because of shit CTV who airs the episode one day earlier
ReplyDeleteActually, this year the first 2 episodes of Castle got better ratings than last year. This year it´s 2.2 for both, last year it was 2.1 and 1.9. I don´t remember the viewers, but I think this year they are up too...
ReplyDeleteYay BONES!!! :)
ReplyDeleteyou should check it out. It's awesome!
ReplyDeleteHostages is my favorite this fall. Such a great show! Am worried about the ratings though :-/
ReplyDelete
