These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

For more information on the Nielsen Ratings see this Wikipedia Entry.

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was victory for “Sunday Night Football” on NBC with the Washington Redskins at the Dallas Cowboys at an estimated 13.6 rating/22 share in the overnights from 8:30-11:30 p.m. Comparably, that was a 10 percent gain over the Green Bay Packers at the Houston Texans one year earlier.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game “Football Night in America” at a 1.4/ 3 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 3.3/ 6 at 7:30 p.m. (#2) and a dominant 8.7/14 at 8 p.m. Keep in mind, that last night included the fourth season-premiere of AMC drama “The Walking Dead” at 9 p.m. ET.

Fox got a boost from the 17.8/32 in the 7 p.m. half-hour with its NFL overrun, which led into Post-Game “The OT” at a 15.0/26 at 7:30 p.m. Next was game two of the American League Championship Series, Detroit at Boston, at an estimated 6.0/10 in the overnights from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, that was 28 percent above game one of the National League Championship Series on the year-ago evening (4.7/ 8 on 10/14/12).

Elsewhere, CBS has experienced slippage on Sunday with its regularly scheduled combination of “60 Minutes” (#2: 8.1/14; -11 percent from one year earlier), “The Amazing Race” (#3: 5.7/ 9; -15 percent), “The Good Wife” (#2: 6.3/10; -10 percent) and “The Mentalist” (#2: 6.5/11; -13 percent) down, on average, by 12 percent. While the Eye net has bigger concerns elsewhere, Sunday will have to be addressed at some point.

In season-premiere news, veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” slipped to a third-place 2.9/ 5 in the overnights at 7 p.m., which was down by 22 percent from the 3.7/ 6 on the year-ago evening. Next was deteriorating “Once Upon a Time” (#4: 4.5/ 7 at 8 p.m.), which dropped by 30 percent from one year earlier (6.4/10 on 10/14/12). And once water-cooler worthy “Revenge” at 9 p.m. (#4: 4.1/ 6) was off by 31 percent from the 5.9/ 9 one year earlier.

In week three news, ABC drama “Betrayal” sunk to a 2.3/ 4 at 10 p.m., which was 38 percent below failed year-ago occupant “666 Park Avenue” (3.7/ 6 on 10/14/12) and 44 percent below lead-in “Revenge.” Had ABC not already canceled “Lucky 7,” “Betrayal’s” departure would probably be immediate. Three week overnight track for “Betrayal”: 3.5/ 6 – 2.8/ 5 – 2.3/ 4.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below)

  1. When does AMC announce The Walking Dead ratings? I wonder what they are.

  2. Doesn't look good for the Mentalist :(

    ReplyDelete
  3. Again I am more intrested in Seeing Once upon a Time and revenge's numbers compared to last 2 weeks instead of a year ago. That's a bad compression. He seems determine to make both shows sound bad.

    ReplyDelete
  4. it doesen't really look good for any show airing on sunday so I wouldn't fear too much. CBS knows that sunday has become a quite heavily fought for day.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Yes, he likes to give both shows adjectives like "deteriorating" especially OUAT.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I don't think syndication can save Revenge...

    ReplyDelete
  7. There are a number of shows that he continuously bad mouths, no matter how well they are doing. He is as professional and informative as a slug.

    ReplyDelete
  8. As long as The Mentalist stays stable on Sunday, we don't need to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Shouldn't be a surprise. And looking at the DVR numbers TM is still doing very good, too bad DVR doesn't get considered more. But expecting an over 2.0 demo and more live Viewers when it's constantly late bc of sports or on hiatus bc of the same would be ridiculous, imo. And I hope CBS takes a look at the overral ratings and not only these ones.

  10. Cool, thanks for the encouragement :)

The only reason I was concerned is because I'm from Australia, and it's a little difficult to understand the ratings system in the US.

  11. I don't see how he's trying to make them sound bad. He compare all of the shows to a year ago and is factually correct that they are down. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it any less true.

  12. Cool, thanks for the encouragement :)

Plus, it's still early in the season. Anything is possible.

  13. Thanks for the encouragement :)

I noticed the Cancellation Predictor Table and saw the Mentalist is in the yellow zone. I have to admit that was feeling worried. But, it's still early in the season and anything can happen.

  14. If you want them so bad go into the Ratings Database and check out the ratings for the last two weeks. And Berman is comparing the ratings to last year the way the rest of the industry / networks do.

  15. Don't worry :) I'm from Italy and it took me almost an year to understand the american rating system lol

    ReplyDelete
  16. After last season for both shows nobody Is pretending they are not down but he's going out of his way against both shows.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't see it but different strokes...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think it would have to fall to betrayal level before ABC even think of cancelling it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Last week Once Upon A Time was down a tenth to a 2.5 then adjusted upwards in the finals to 2.6 making it even with the numbers for the premiere. So, as always, I'll wait for the 18-49 demographic numbers. Yes it is down from last year, but still pulling renewal worthy numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ABC has enough troubled shows so I don't see Revenge in danger for now.

    ReplyDelete
  21. well i expected revenge to go down this week because it was up against the walking dead so i expect the 18-49 demographic to be like a 1.5 or 1.6

    ReplyDelete
  22. I also expect something like that unfortunately but last year it was unaffected by the walking dead, not sure we can claim that to be the reason this year.

    ReplyDelete
  23. As it stands, Revenge is a certain renewal, 100% chance. Its ratings would have to collapse way further for it to be in any danger, in addition to the rest of ABC dramas not collapsing while it would so (very unlikely).

    ReplyDelete
  24. No, the Mentalist is in serious danger of cancellation this year.

    ReplyDelete
  25. well last year the walking dead had like 8 million viewers now it has like 11 million viewers

    ReplyDelete
  26. well i expected worse for revenge it did do better then i thought

    ReplyDelete
  27. as long as it stays somewhere between a 1.7-2.0 for the rest of the season then it will get renewed

    ReplyDelete
  28. OUAT beats the other drama shows (on networks) clearly.

    ReplyDelete
  29. clearly the walking dead took over sunday night

    ReplyDelete
  30. So did football, I'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  31. If it is, so are all of CBS's Sunday shows. I could see that because of the show's age but not really becuase of ratings/viewership. They've got to know Sundays are tough.

    ReplyDelete
  32. So, how long till Betrayal is pulled?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Once Upon a Time
    Viewers: 7.36 million A18-49: 2.4/ 6

    ReplyDelete
  34. Does anybody have any idea when the twitter ratings will be released for last week?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Tomorrow I believe. As soon as Nielsen send them to us we'll post them.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thank you! I know they probably won't mean much, but I do find the twitter ratings interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I dont get this rating system either, and I am from Austria

    ReplyDelete
  38. A drama that makes you think at 10 pm on sun is killer. I think 7 will be last. Simon is signed for 7. I love Jane but many others are take or leave for me. I'd love to see demo improve with new characters joining! I am good with a 2. How were ratings on week 3 last year? I do not think main plot ending is reason it is in high gear. I am confused last week demo reported Mon was 1.9 is that overall not 18-35? Or more exact? Some say mon is more accurate and 'adjusted'. It is a feat to have this high and steady total viewers this it is shocking cbs won't put a reality show on sun9-11. Mistake. Why ignore sense?
