-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS remains the network to beat in the Thursday overnights with a 29 percent advantage over No. 2 ABC last night. Third-place Fox got a boost care of the Cory Monteith tribute episode on “Glee,” but NBC fell off the charts and “The Vampire Diaries” has lost steam on The CW.

“Glee” rose to a 5.3 rating/8 share (#3) in the overnights at 9 p.m., which bested the week-ago telecast (3.1/ 5 on Oct. 3) by a hefty 71 percent. And it built from “The X Factor” at 8 p.m. (#3: 4.8/ 8) by 10 percent. Set several weeks after Finn’s passing, last night’s episode of “Glee” was a touching farewell to an actor who is gone way too soon.

In series-premiere news, fantasy drama “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” on ABC opened with an anemic 3.6/ 6 in the overnights at 8 p.m. Comparably, that finished a distant third in the hour and 23 percent below failed year-ago time period drama “Last Resort” (4.7/ 7 on 10/11/12).

“The Big Bang Theory” on CBS topped the night, as always, with an 11.1 rating/19 share at 8 p.m. And that led into an also dominant 7.4/12 for episode two of “The Millers” at 8:30 p.m. which was 11 percent below its week-ago series-opener (but on par with former occupant “Two and a Half Men” on the year-ago evening). Retention for “The Millers” out of “The Big Bang Theory” was modest, however, at 67 percent.

Overnight leadership in the 9 p.m. half-hour was tied between week three of sitcom “The Crazy Ones” on CBS and the first half of “Grey’s Anatomy” on ABC, each with a 6.4/10. Comparably, “The Crazy Ones” dipped by 15 percent from the week two telecast (7.5/12) with the three week overnight track as follows: 10.6/16 – 7.5/12 – 6.4/10. Obviously, “The Crazy Ones” faced increased competition from “Glee” (as did the rest of the competition). But unless it settles in now (and this is still a respectable performance), CBS could have a potential problem here.

“Two and a Half Men” on CBS at 9:30 p.m. was compatible with “The Crazy Ones,” with a second-place 6.1/10 in the overnights. But the combination of the two is notably below last season’s time period occupant, “Person of Interest” (which is now not as strong Tuesday at 10 p.m.).

“Elementary” capped off the night for the Eye net with a second-place 6.0/10, which was nine percent below competing “Scandal” on ABC (6.6/10). “Scandal’s” advantage over “Elementary” in the young adult demos will be considerably higher, no doubt. And aforementioned lead-in “Grey’s Anatomy” won the 9 p.m. hour in the overnights at an 11 percent loss from one week earlier (7.3/12 on Oct. 3).

Elsewhere, NBC took an enormous hit for the evening with a loss of 23 percent in the overnights from one week earlier and a distant fourth-place finish from 8-10 p.m. “Parks and Recreation” opened with a 2.3/ 4 at 8 p.m., which was 15 percent below year-ago occupant “30 Rock” (2.7/ 4 on 10/11/12). And it was notably worse at 8:30 p.m. with week two of sitcom “Welcome to the Family” at a mere 1.9/ 3, which was 27 percent below its DOA results one week earlier (2.6/ 4 on Oct. 3) and 21 percent below failed year-ago occupant “Up All Night” (2.4/ 4 on 10/11/12). Tick, tock…the cancellation clock is ticking.

At 9 p.m., week two of NBC’s “Sean Saves the World” slipped to a 2.3/ 4, which was down by a hefty 38 percent from its week-ago debut (3.7/ 6 on Oct. 3). And week three (and episode four) of “The Michael J. Fox Show” was only slightly higher at a series-low 2.5/ 4 at 9:30 p.m. Four-week overnight track for “The Michael J. Fox Show”: 5.4/ 9 – 5.2/ 8 – 3.8/ 6 – 2.5/ 4.

Relocated “Parenthood” closed the night for NBC with a series-low 2.6/ 5 at 10 p.m.

Over at The CW, “The Vampire Diaries” scored a 1.8/ 3 in the overnights at 8 p.m., which was 22 percent below the 2.3/ 4 on the year-ago evening. And it led into a 1.0/ 2 for a repeat of spin-off “The Originals” at 9 p.m.
