There should be an "all of the above" category. What a great episode! But I settled for Shaw getting made by a ten-year-old. Carter turning the tables on Laskey was pretty cool, too. so was that final (taser) shot! Didn't see that coming!
Gotta go with Carter slapping down Lasky. I would have been a little disappointed in her new badass status if she didn't figure out an idiot kid was watching her.
Carter in that bar scene was hands down the awesomest scen of the ep. After that nearly all of them. Shaw being made by a 10 year old. Harold trying to take car of Shaw (really he should have known better) "I'm in it for the dog."
Other: Shaw and Jen part ways. For me to see Shaw have this moment and for the audience to understand that Shaw basically isn't a sociopath I think was just so important to Shaw's internal story.
I also really liked when Carter turned the tables on Lanskey and of course Simmons' and Reese's fight scene was another great highlight!
I wonder if the machine is "leveling the playing field"? And now it's boys against the girls... Maybe pairing the overly emotional and unstable Root with the unemotional Shaw? But I still don't like it!!!
I realized when I was winnowing down the scenes that I ended up without one of Shaw and Jen - I thought it such a great dynamic - so I totally agree with this choice! Sometimes it is so, so hard to limit the number of scenes! But then it gives people a chance to talk about them in the comments... I was totally thinking aspergers - not sociopath at all... I wonder if they will actually address it at some point.
You're right it is hard, especially on such a great episode through and through! :)
I actually meant before this episode the thought had crossed my mind that it was a sociopath, but this episode clarified that she's not, but I'm actually not leaning towards a disorder yet, as much as a military training (lots of Alias-like 'project Christmas' parallels in this episode)
So, just when we have established that Shaw is not a sociopath, she gets paired up with Root...who most definitely IS a sociopath! I see carnage coming...
Except that they showed she was this way at 10 - so before any military training - though I know her Dad was in the military too. There has been talk of Reese suffering from Asperger's too - but I think he is more plausibly militarily trained to be this way. I wouldn't doubt that the military wanted her because of it though...
In Alias "Project Christmas" was a CIA military program for children to become sleeper agents in which they didn't remember their training and they could be revruited later in life to have "all the right skills"...
Sydney Bristow's dad was the one behind the program, but he learned that his wife had come to America and married him being a KGB agent who was giving this project (and other information) back to the KGB...But Jack built a back door in Sydney's case so that not only was she trained (she was able to assemble her dad's gun at like age 8 or 9) so that she could not be changed by other sleeper agent programs...
Yea cortexifan and spacial reasoing bloxks are a direct reference...In this case I think it might be Juxtaposed because Shaw behaved this way early on, as apposed to later, as in Sydney's case, but not have telekinetic abilities like in Olivia's case. It might not be a military program in the same way, it could just be her father trained her...
There were a lot of incredible scenes on this episode and honestly I could have seen myself voting for almost any of those but I had to go with Carter's badass scene, I was amazed with that one!
I agree that I really liked Shaw scenes with Jen but that was more of an overall theme of the episode - it was the progression of their scenes that made it so good. As an individual scene, Carter's scene was my favorite ;)
I tend to like meaningful thematic scenes more than turn table scenes, but honestly this episode was just so well put together as a whole it was tough to decide :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteNO! I do not want Root to have Shaw!!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely great eppy.
ReplyDeleteGotta go with Carter slapping down Lasky. I would have been a little disappointed in her new badass status if she didn't figure out an idiot kid was watching her.
ReplyDeleteBest line: I'm only in it for the dog.
My god, that Carter scene in the bar ranks as one of the best scenes of the show.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to rewatch the episode and make a list...

I will be curious to see if the Machine is going to be ok with this!

ReplyDeleteOMG - Shaw and Bear are epic. And Carter is way too smart to have been fooled by Lasky - agreed!
ReplyDeleteLove her! I think this show is one of the best on tv at writing great women characters.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to include "I'm in it for the dog"!

All scenes in special Carter and Laskey scene tied with Reese and Simmons "talk".
ReplyDeleteIt's scary that's for sure! XD

ReplyDeleteCarter at the bar. She was just badass and she went rogue after all.
ReplyDeleteI think you misunderstand me....

No, I got it. Same as Olivia on Fringe. I'd like to see him do something different here.

ReplyDeleteI'm loving Carter this season! Not that I didn't love her before - but now even more!
ReplyDeleteYou know it's a good episode when only choosing 7 scenes is hard!

ReplyDeleteOne of best scenes ever .!!
