I found it funny how Rick told Maggie and Michonne not to get close to him as he may be sick, and then he lets his son who just hugged him run over to them. Also, why couldn't Rick create a trail of gasoline as he drew the walkers out further, and light them on fire? I figured he didn't have any gasoline, but then he pulled it out at the end to unnecessarily burn the pig pen.
This episode was more of the same old, omg zombies have infiltrated the abode - panic, death, people crying, more death, people grieving....but I like the mystery they got going of who is feeding the zombies and who burned the bodies. I'm sad to see Karen go, she was such eye candy, but the previews for the season kind of spoiled it showing Tyrese with that horror face...once they showed him getting close to her in episode one - she's dead.
Amazing that so many people sleep with their cell doors wide open. Guess no one likes to feel locked up, but if everyone was locked in there would be very few causalities.
Love that the older daughter stepped up and offered to kill her dad. Not everyone is ready to do it of course, but at least she offered. In this world killing a loved one who has been bitten is not only an act of love, but needs to be taught to the young. Maybe not in secret by Carol, but they need to know.
I wonder if the Governor and/ or his right hand man Caesar is alive and sabotaging the prison?
Love how Michonne uses her down time to work out! XD
Now that was a BRILLIANT use of the pigs! I may have let a few run free to make noise in the woods and draw the walkers off, but Rick's plan worked well enough!
I really like how this season is integrating quiet and still character moments even with the action. Not only are the still moments what I watch the show for, but they are great juxtaposition against the often times manic world they live in.
Awesome episode highlighted by the return of pragmatist Rick!
I think the girl fed them the rats. Her sister kind of hinted at it when she said she was messed up. And she was worried about them killing the walker she named. She's probably been feeding them like pets.
Interesting idea! I thought it felt like a taller person from the fence scene, but shadows and darkness blur perception a lot!
If it was here feeding the walkers, would she also be the one that killed Karen and the other guy, dragged them out of the prison in a relatively short time frame, and then lit them on fire? Seems like a lot of work for a skinny preteen girl.
Of course, the walker feeder and the walker torcher could be two separate people I guess.
This one got an "awesome" vote from me. Lots of tension. It was a big switch from the comfortable, home sweet home feel of last week. Loved Michonne with baby Judith. Speaking of Judith, she is definitely Rick's baby--she looks nothing like Shane.
Someone on talking dead suggested lizzie was using a ladder, because she knew she wouldn't be able to reach up high enough to put the rats in their mouths.
Carl just ran to him before he realized it. He quickly pushed him away when he did.
Greg Nicotero said that they didn't burn the walkers because of the safety issues - catching the woods on fire or even signalling their presence to other living people. I'd also put in that it's a conservation effort. Gas begins to become unusable after it sits for a while. If they're gonna keep using cars, they need to save what gas they find that IS usable.
I'm with you on the first point. That's the first thing I said when Patrick began wandering through the prison, I'd have my door locked at night. Not only on the off chance something like that could happen, but you really don't KNOW these people. Or what people might do in this situation. Sure, you're all living in relative peace and harmony, but so were the people of Woodbury. Look at how that turned out.
I haven't watched TTD yet... It would solve the height issue I had, and it certainly makes sense with Lizzie's psychological state...
Still not sure how she would have done Karen and the other guy though...
I'm still feeling like it is one saboteur though. I can see one internal saboteur, but two from the inside? Even one internal and one external at the same time seems like a stretch to me.
I don't think Lizzie is connected to the burned bodies at all. She wouldn't have the physical strength to drag two unconscious adults that far. I'm beginning to wonder if it might not've been Bob. He seemed fairly anxious about the sickness being within the walls. Since he's ex-military, it's possible he might've deemed it a tactical decision. Preventative.
I suspected as much last week when the kids were calling them like pets. The older girl challenged Carl on what the "Walkers" were and how dangerous they were (not). Some of the adults should have picked up on this and Carl should have told Rick about the incident. To little to late now! Were the burned bodies suicides or murder? Excellent episode and the preview for next week looks even better! 4 THE DEAD TO STAY WALKING, I am Nobody!!!
I'm banking on murder for the bodies. There were blood trails beginning from the beds of the two who were quarantined. Someone came in while they were sleeping, stabbed or bashed their heads in, dragged them into the area outside and lit them on fire.
Thinking of the disease.... They made a point to show that Rick was feeding the pigs earthworms mixed in with their food. I wonder if that will come into play of if it is just some Flu-like virus going around.
I'm banking on the "Selfless Suicide", but if it's murder then I betting on the Ex - Military Medic (the shelf of alcohol fell on him in the premiere)...............he's got "Screw - Up" written all over him! I'm watching the replay and Lizzie was crying for "Nick the Walker" because he was special, not for her dead father.............the plot thickens! 4 THE DEAD TO STAY WALKING, I remain Nobody!!!
The blood trails are the strongest evidence for murder. Suicide would've left them both in their cells, not burned. They were burned post-mortem because of the lack of constriction in their limbs. Even if it's a willful burning, the body will automatically react to that kind of intense heat and pain.
Pretty solid episode. So far this season I definitely feel the writers finally got a handle on the more dramatic side of the show instead of it just being filled in around awesome zombie kills. Now there are still awesome zombie kills and gruesome scenes, but there's more substance too, and it works in their favor.
Glad Rick got the hand cannon back, gotta admit I was smiling when we saw that beastly gun. Poor little pigs though, but it kind of had to be done. So I'm guessing the same person who fed the walkers the rats is the same one who roasted the 2 people alive. My money is on the guy from The Wire, not sure what his name is, the one who got stuck under the alcohol shelf last week. I'm thinking he's a plant from the Governor.
who said they are the same person? I don't think it makes sense that the person who was feeding them would be the person who torched others?? Why would someone help them and then kill them? No, they wouldn't. Has to be two seperate people.
I still think it could be one person.... or I prefer it to be one person.
I know they have taken in a lot of new people, but having 2 internal saboteurs seems a step too far for me. I have a harder time accepting 2 people working against the survivors from the inside.
Both Karen and the other burned guy were two of the regulars at the fence with morning walker culling duty.
So if someone is pro-walker, feeding them rats and burning two people that have killed dozens (if not hundreds) of zombies fits a pro-walker agenda. So it could fit one person's motivation easily.
Of course, I do understand the other motivation for burning the sick to ward off the virus. Someone's self-preservation desires.
As for the cell doors being open, I wonder that at first, but later I think about this:locks in prison are on the outside not inside right? it's design is to lock ppl in, not prevent other ppl in, so I guess one can't really lock the door, unless they bring locks from woodburry.block D is inhabited with ppl in woodbury who know each other, and woodburry seems peacful enough (except the governor), I guess they don't even look doors in woodburry
I guess that's probably two person, cause their motive contradicts. The rat feeder is try to sabotage the prison , but I think the murderer just want to prevent the disease from spreading, burning corpse is an old method to treat ppl who infected with plague, that's the only way to kill all the germs and virus. I think the murderer is just afraid of the disease, or his/her love one died in Patrics's attack, so he/she wants to take on ppl who carry the disease, so he/she kill the infected and burn them, make sure they can't further spread the disease.
I'd be surprised if it were Caesar. He seemed reluctant to have to engage with prison group. I imagine he would be even less inclined to team back up with The Governor after he massacred his own people like that. I'd need an explanation as to why he would go along with something like this.
I suspect her as well, only the way the scene was filmed it seems like the person who was feeding them was adult size since the mouse was at head height of the walker... but well maybe it doesn't mater !
Great episode. I was really happy to see Rick getting back in the game. I especially enjoyed Daryl and Ricks conversation and Rick taking charge again. Great plan with the pigs. I was also happy that Carl told his dad about Carol and that Rick took his sons advise.
Not liking Tyreese. His character does nothing for me. I can´t say if it is the actor or if they just didn´t give him anything interesting to do. I know he is a fan favorite in the comics. Is he a lot different in the comics?
Awesome awesome episode. I truly enjoyed the premiere and I think I wouldn't have enjoyed this episode as much as I did if we didn't get the premiere, but damn, this was amazing. The Walking Dead that I love. Character dynamics at best, my heart about to explode, chaos and survival fight everywhere and heartbreaking scenes all the way courtesy of none other than the amazing Andrew Lincoln. When Rick sacrificed the pigs it was really sad, I kind of felt hurt too with what he was going through. So well done!
He became Rick's right-hand man in the comics. They had some tension but he was trusted by Rick. I should go back and read the prison times of comics, interesting to see it in a new light now that Tyreese has made it to the TV show as well
Great episode. Nearly cried at the Michonne/Judith scene. I take it Michonne as lost a baby at some point. I love that we're getting drip-fed bits of character and personality from her. She was criticized last year for having no personality, but I'm glad that we're starting to get a picture of her and why she is the way she is. Love her.
They seriously have to start being more careful, though. Especially at night. Anyone at any time will immediately become a threat if they die. It's not just about viruses and flus and keeping away from anyone who coughs... What if Tyreese has a heart attack in his sleep, or if Judith dies of cot death? They will turn and they will bite.
I'm not buying the flu-theory. I'm thinking it's also to do with the water. In the premiere they made a point of showing rick rinse himself off in a barrel of water and then drink some, then the camera zoomed in on the shower head when Patrick was dying. This week, they made a point of showing Tyreese's missus using some water in the sink and then she started coughing. My sister and I both think the water is contaminated. Although as you point out, there's also clearly something not right with the worms... the whole ground is probably contaminated with rotten zombie juice, meaning they wont even be able to eat their vegetables soon.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Now I'm sad over the poor, innocent pigs. THEY DIDN'T DESERVE THAT. And way to get blood on your face there, Rick. A+ for the shirtlessness, though.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, what at the end.
Ah! Rick is Baaackkkk! Get ready for some full blown hallucination and breakdowns with no democracy antics. Woohoo!
ReplyDeletewonder who burned those two up sure wans't rick because he was to busy killing poor baby pigs
ReplyDeleteTo add more, was that the same person, who feed the walkers some rats???
ReplyDeleteWow this was easily the best episode since "Clear"
ReplyDeleteI found it funny how Rick told Maggie and Michonne not to get close to him as he may be sick, and then he lets his son who just hugged him run over to them.

I do too. It was Lizzy. She had a big heart for the walkers (Nick, for one).
ReplyDeleteI'd be okay with Rick shirtless, or if he'd get himself a shirt in a color other than beige. Blue maybe?
ReplyDeleteAll I could think was, damn, that's the whitest white man I've seen in a long time
ReplyDeleteThis one got an "awesome" vote from me. Lots of tension. It was a big switch from the comfortable, home sweet home feel of last week. Loved Michonne with baby Judith. Speaking of Judith, she is definitely Rick's baby--she looks nothing like Shane.

Ha, not me. You can go blind looking at some of my family when they go swimming.

Yeah his name is Bob Stookey. He's a definite possibility but you never know.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm usually good with actors names, but he's new to me since I only just started watching The Wire.
ReplyDeleteThe character is Bob Stookey, the actor is Lawrence Gilliard Jr.
ReplyDeletewho said they are the same person?
