  1. That was much better than I expected. Good all the way around.

  2. I really liked it! I loved their take on Oz.

Every time I saw Gildart Jackson I got angry because all I see is Gideon murdering Chris (and it's been nine years)! Oops.

I love the garage and aww, Sam. I like that he opened up to Dorothy a little. And this isn't going to end well with Ezekiel, especially since Sam keeps getting knocked out every time and he heard "Zeke" this time.

And I ship Dorothy/Charlie now. I definitely think she'll be back in the future.

  3. JUST.TOO.AWESOME. :O Who the hell said this was going to be about a light time and laughs???I WAS CRYING HALF OF THE TIME.What Sam said about not feeling the bunker like home, how he hever had a home,WHEN CHARLIE FREAKIN DIED TO SAVE DEAN.I just.GOD.So many feels HELP.And I called it that Charlie would leave for OZ!!!And the special effects!!AAAAH!!!SO GREAT!!!There are possibly 1000000 things I loved and want to talk about but I NEED TO CALM DOWN FIRST.

  4. Can't imagine anyone not liking this episode. I thought it was amazing. Love all the "background" on OZ-love that Dean feels like he has a home-sad that Sam does not feel like the bunker is now his home-love Charlie going with Dorothy to complete her mission in OZ-love, love the garage-love Zeke saving Charlie-hate Dean having to make that choice (even though it was the right one)- What's not to love???

  5. So many great lines tonight. And loved the twists with the Oz Story...Wish i could've seen more of the flying monkeys (sigh) But my favorite line of the night "IS THAT YOUR BATMAN VOICE?" LMFAO aw man, I laughed for a good ten minutes with that one. That was too funny.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Don't like Charlie, this episode didn't help. BUT some neat FX and Crowley was fun. It was alright

    ReplyDelete
  7. I loved it! It was a nice surprise for me to learn about Dorothy's past and that she was a hunter. There were great parts with both drama and comedy, especially Charlie asking Dean if that was his Batman voice! It was sad to see Charlie leave, but I definitely think she'll be coming back. Overall, it was an awesome episode and it kept me on my seat the whole time! :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. On Gildart Jackson: Yeah I was instantly reminded of that. Especially since I haven't seen him in a role since playing Gideon on Charmed.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I was not impressed with this ep, but hey I had 3 GREAT eps in a row, guess that is all I could hope for. Again Charlie has to save the day, hope she never comes back from Oz. Charlie shows up and the guys lose all their brains..ugh.

Enjoyed the Zeke time and Crowley was awesome as usual.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I didn't care for this episode at all. I found it extremely boring. It got interesting when Dean and Sam were possessed. And I always like seeing Zeke, but I was just not impressed at all.

    I can't say I'll miss Charlie.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Better than I expected, but only an okay episode.

Welcome to club death and resurrection Charlie. Glad Zeke saved her. I would have hated the boys losing a friend.

Having two episodes in a row where Zeke brings someone back is a little much. He's more convenient than Cas was as an angel and people complained then. I wonder how they're reacting with Zeke?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I hope I'm not the only one but it was underwhelming for me. Not terrible and not amazing, just meh! Which is very unusual for a Charlie episode.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think Dean's reliance on Zeke is intentional. It's causing him to lie more and more which will lead to the big showdown with Sam later on.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Maybe its because the episode is still fresh, but I liked it. It wasn't the best, there were parts that were boring, and was weaker than the last 3 episodes, but I liked it.

It was refreshing to see both boys falling prey to the evil witch instead of Dean saving Sam. I loved seeing Sam's room and the differences of how Dean and Sam treat the bunker. It would be interesting if the writers explored this alittle more, but I don't have high hopes.

There has been some criticism that Charlie is a little too Mary-Sue and always showing up the boys. I did feel a little of that this episode. Even though, I generally like Charlie, but I am not sure how I feel about her hunting monsters. That is the boys' thing. Dorothy was kinda dull and angry and the wicked witch was creepy looking.

Dean seems a little too comfortable calling out to Zeke - ok, to be fair, if you just watched your friends die and had an angel that could help, you probably would call out to them. Just sayin' Dean said Zeke's name this time, didn't hint or bat an eye. Sam will probably start putting 2 and 2 together to get 5 and know that something doesn't add up - especially if Dean says Zeke again.

On a final note, the computer was interesting. I hope that it does come into play and they figure out how it runs.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I was disappointed with the Sam insight. I think Jared's hints led me to believe that there would be a substantial conversation taking place between Dorothy and Sam that would give us insight into Sam's feelings and motivations, but it was basically a rehash of what we already knew.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I get that, but it takes the good suspense (the "I hope they survive" suspense) out of the storyline. Though that kind of suspense is pretty much completely trashed on this show now for main characters, there can still be some for reoccurring ones.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I kind of hope that eventually Zeke does just outright refuse. Perhaps when he begins to show more evil tendencies as I think he will. There still are minor characters that could get offed like Kevin and Garth. Kevin's not really as useful anymore and Garth barely shows up anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, I cannot remember where I read it, but someone indicated that Sam was going to bond w/a "Dorothy," so when I figured out that this Dorothy was the Dorothy to which that person was referring, I was very disappointed. As you said, there was no bonding or moment btw them. Maybe it was cut out. Who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Kevin will probably be useful in finding a way to reverse the Angel Expel Spell.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm all for Garth dying. I like Kevin though.

    ReplyDelete
  21. To be fair, not many of the reoccurring characters die unless they are cleaning house (Meg).

    ReplyDelete
  22. While Season 9 has had some pretty awesome special effects, I wasn't blown away by Oz, the demonic flying monkey and the Emerald City. Although, the witch disappearing and reappearing was nifty.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Huh. Looks like the supporting cast just lost one, maybe two?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jared is the one who said it in a few interviews. He talked about how he and Dorothy paired off and he opened up to Dorothy in a way that he never did to Dean or anyone else he knew. Very disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Are you serious?!?!?!?
I didn't read that. I got that comment from a fan over on Supernatural.tv. Did they have a conversation I missed or something? Didn't they only speak at the end of the episode?

    ReplyDelete
  26. They sorta bonded when Sam and Dorothy went to distract the witch while Dean and Charlie went to get the key. But from Jared's comment, I was expecting a lot more.

    ReplyDelete
  27. http://www.buddytv.com/articles/supernatural/supernatural-interview-jensen-51605.aspx

    From the interview highlights:
"Sam opens up to Dorothy in a way that he wouldn't to those close to him. He's able to tell her things because he assumes she won't be around for long."

He didn't tell her anything we didn't already know. --The bunker is not a home.--

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes, as you said in your prior post, Sam told Dorothy nothing he hadn't said to Dean (and Charlie?). I was expecting a bit longer scene. Maybe it was filmed and cut as the Sam/Samuel Colt extended scene was cut.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I bet it was cut b/c we got nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I really feel like we all missed something. Haha! When did Sam open up to her and reveal things he can't tell anyone else? That didn't happen!

    ReplyDelete
  31. That was my main problem with this otherwise cute episode - Charlie saving the day for "the experienced hunters" for the third time out of her four appearances.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I would have definitely expected a lot more based on what Jared said and from the Buddytv article. Sam didn't say anything we (and Dean) didn't already know.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Not necessarily. Dorothy has the key to get back and forth between worlds. Charlie also picked up the ruby slippers- but I am not sure if she took them with her.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah . . you know what else annoyed me? Dean and Charlie's "private" conversation less than one foot away from Sam and Dorothy who were dead silent and no longer speaking! How did Sam NOT hear what they discussed?
    Just silly.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Right? Why not have them in a different room or something? But to be standing so close and act like Sam couldn't hear EVERYTHING they said is just silly. Soaps do that silly crap.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I saw Gideon too, and expected him to pull something at some point...he did still kill that other young bewitched guy though...and now that I think about it, this was a "fairy tale" sort of episode (Charmed did a hell of a lot of those) and their "lair" IS actually fairly reminiscent of Magic School too. O_O

    ReplyDelete
  37. A similar thing happened in 902 in the scene where Dean talks on the phone to Irv the first time; Kevin and Sam are seated, nearly motionless, at their computer.papers

    ReplyDelete
  38. I remember that. I thought that was so strange, but at least, Dean wasn't having a private conversation or anything like he was supposed to be doing here! LOL :-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow, that was really a lot better than I expected. Let's be honest, it could have been SO much worse. I love that Dorothy was a hunter, love that we got to see more of the bunker, and a small look back to the Men of Letters of the past. I'm excited to uncover more. I was expecting a huge cheesefest when I tuned in and was pleasantly surprised!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I always get a kick out of people complaining when Charlie saves the day. Because that is one of the things I love about the way her character is handled. So often characters on this show are just used as props for the Winchester's angst, but Charlie is the hero of her own story, and it's great. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Came by to say this time how much I ADORED the last scene!!! Sam: There's no place like home. The smiles that followed <3 <3 !!! I think Sam discovered "HOME" in the end :')

    ReplyDelete
  42. The Good:This episode is surprisingly integrated, not just a monster a week episode, but also dealt deeper into Sam's feeling at home, and started from him not wanting to make men of letter a home, to him acknowledging it at the end, very nice to see a side of the main character that we haven't seen be4. This kind of good character development (instead of going around things like Sam doesn't want to be a hunter again which is like 9 seasons ago) is quite rarely in recent years. Sam is really getting a good story this year.

The Okay:Charlie saved the day again, not surprising, but still handled pretty well, it's okay that secondary character saves the day, just don't do it every episode and at least made that be a lovable character not some "one-off I can't even remember his name" kind of character.

The Bad: Zeke saved the day, again, 4 times in a row since the first episode, really? I know death means differently in this show, but now resurrection is a more common scene than Dean eating pie. This really bugs me that if you can willy nilly ask an angel to save anyone that's dead, why didn't Dean ask Cas to save Bobby, Ellen , Jo, Ash, their parents, their grandpa, innocent victim A etc when Cas still has power? He can still do it now after Zeke rest a couple days, right? Zeke has regain half of his power after resurrecting Cas a few days ago, that shouldn't be hard for him.

Kevin is sent away because they don't want to give him roles and screen time on this Oz episode, but a motel is not the safest place for a prophet, especially when he's alone! Seriously?Sam and Dean seems to have made several hunter friends, can't one of them keep an eye on Kevin? or Cas?
The Shit's gonna hit the fan: Dean lied by saying Cas leave the bunker on his will, this isn't gonna end well. I was wondering what Dean told Cas, sounds like after the talk Cas was forced to leave immdiately, not even have a chance to say goodbye to Sam,otherwise I think Sam would convince him to stay.
Even bigger shit, if that men of letter table really worked and started to track the angels, Sam would find out there's one constantly at the men of letter bunker, possibly moving with him. But I guess it's just a plot device to introduce Charlie, they aren't actually gonna use it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. They're making Sam look really dumb this season and I'm not liking it one bit. This makes 3 times that he's woken up on a floor and Dean is giving him some bullshit excuse for whatever just went down and he's just like "Oh, okay." Um no. Sam wouldn't just drop the subject about stuff like this normally. He did question him about Zeke tonight so it's a start.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I like Charlie and her episodes, but this one didn't really do it for me. Could've been I'm not a Wizard of Oz fan, and/or I'm not liking the whole Ezekial storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh dear. That episode was cringingly horrible!I
I've never liked Charlie but now she really put me off her.
She made the brothers look like incompetent idiots, but of course that was the idea.
    X

Mr. Thomson loves his creation to bits and has turned her into a Godess who is now more intelligent and experienced than the brothers ever were.
How dare Thomson make Sam say that Charlie was the most intelligent person in the room! I get ther impression that these writers hate the brothers and they take pleasure in putting them down.
    X

Apart from all the rest, the episode was boring; there was a lot going on and it could have been an interesting story in the hands of a competent writer, but unfortunately the isn't one currently writiing for this show.
    X

The only high spot was Crowley, He's the only one who never disappoints.

Even the acting by the brothers was stilted and awkward, and I love the brothers.

    Terrible episode.

The worst of the season so far and I give it a resounding awful. I'm so disappointed after the not too bad beginning to the season!

    ReplyDelete
  46. It wouldn't be evil if Zeke refuse to save another person, it's restoring balance to the world, sometimes things are what they are, one gotta accept and not employ any easy fix to negate all the negative impact of life. Hunters die young, that's the natural order, Charlie chose it, she need to bear the consequences.
But it does sounds evil if Zeke keeps doing what Dean ask no matter what it is. Bad guys always give a person what they want, that's how to gain one's trust, remember Ruby teaching Sam how to exocise demon without killing the victim? sounds like saving life but actually it's just luring Sam to the dark side

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't think Sam's dumb, I think he just respects his brother and don't want to ask Dean if Dean isn't ready to tell him

    ReplyDelete
  48. I was glad when Castiel became human because it meant no more easy outs for the Winchesters. Judging by the writers reliance on Zeke this season, they don't think the same as I do.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I agree.
It was boring and there was no true emotion, nothing that gripped you.it was all bland stuff.
    X

I know that characters die and get resurrected on the show, but you want to at least give the whole dying thing a minimum of feeling, not," Ezekiel, get in her and resurrect Charlie!" as if Sam/Ez's now gonna be called on every time someone gets snuffed out.
Then the line, "You're not a hunter unless you've been brought back from the dead at least once!: "WTH!

When I think of all the pain the brothers have gone through when they died or when they tried to save the other from dying, and now we get death as something that has to happent to you if you want to be cool!

    Two episodes, two resurerctions!

What happened to Dean's concern over Sam being possessed? What terrible writers!
Excuse the rant. I'm just so annoyed with these writers. :(

    ReplyDelete
  50. I, for one, had an enjoyable time with the episode. We got a little deeper int Sam's reasons for no home. We cried with Dean, and we laughed. They actually managed to make Dorothy and the Witch believable as only SPN can do.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I didn't really think Dean and Sam lost their brains as much as they just sidelined them, aside from the Zeke/Dean scene, and the brief Sam/Charlie talk.

    ReplyDelete
  52. This is why I try NOT to read spoilers and CW promos are the worse. They have things in them that do not show up in the ep.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think that was a surprise mostly because it was the first time he's ever verbalized that the bunker isn't his home. The scene wasn't very long though. Then again that was still one of the longer conversations Sam had with a guest star in recent years.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think Dean is very concerned, which is why he was uneasy about using Ezekiel again to bring Charlie back.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yeah, I wanted Dean to let Zeke go after the witch instead of bringing Charlie back..She would have been a death I would not cry over. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Every recurring character outside of about three or four have died.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I agree and I liked that Zeke gave Dean a choice, save Charlie or get the witch. I had not thought of how much it is like Ruby and Sam..something to think about. I like that.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I actually am more surprised when minor characters live.

I don't want to see more resurrection but I think it has worked for now. Dean has to keep playing God, and these are difficult choices that will likely lead to very bad things.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I thought Dorothy was remarkably pleasant, considering the circumstances. I thought the actress did a great job.

    ReplyDelete
  60. ha, I also wondered where Zeke was when the witch took over Sam and about the Angel GPS showing up Zeke. That would have made the ep at least interesting to me.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ezekiel said he would be unable to help them if he saved Charlie. I took that to mean he was shut down for the rest of the episode.

"This really bugs me that if you can willy nilly ask an angel to save
anyone that's dead, why didn't Dean ask Cas to save Bobby, Ellen , Jo,
Ash, their parents, their grandpa, innocent victim A etc when Cas still
    has power?"

Cas was "dead" when Bobby died. Cas had no ability to even heal when Ellen and Jo died. Cas wasn't around when the others you mention died - he would have to change time to resurrect them, which he likely would have been prevented from doing (remember when he did try to save Dean's parents?)

I think part of the point of this is that it really is not natural for Dean to keep asking Ezekiel to do this.

    ReplyDelete
  62. The only part I laughed at was Crowley showing what the Witch said. lol I would have cheered if Charlie has stayed dead..no crying from me over that.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I believe Can was depowered in S5, which is probably why he couldn't heal Ellen and Jo. Plus, didn't they blow up? Can the angels put people's bodies back together?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Back In Black Tricksteress 95October 30, 2013 at 12:40 PM

Awesome! It was a solid and fantastic episode :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. I wouldn't say Sam is being written as dumb but very agreeable and unquestioning. I know Sam trusts Dean but they're laying it on pretty thick so Sam will be even more outraged when he learns the truth! Sam would naturally be questioning Dean's answers more than he is.

The dude has awakened on the floor with ZERO knowledge as to how he got there several times now. I hope the show focuses on that a bit more and how Sam is feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Just to be clear, I don't have anything bad to say about the actress, I just didn't like Dorothy's characterization.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I just made a list - you are right, there are more recurring characters that died than lived (not counting villains like Meg, Ruby, Crowley, etc). But actually, the list was pretty close and a majority of the dead recurring characters were killed in season 5 or before when the show had different writers. I noticed that a lot of recurring characters are alive, but are probably just never going to come back to the show. For example - Lisa and Ben. Had I counted villains, the list would have been a lot more skewed in favor of dead recurring characters. The boys are pretty good at their job.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The good:

Dorothy was one of the most confident, believable, likeable heroines on the show ever. The guys respected her, she wasn't put in her place, she was strong but not perfect, stern but also kind. I'm surprised she was even on this show.

Sam had a POV and meaningful scenes about who he is and his life.

Dean being dragged further down the rabbit hole of playing God.

    Crowley trying to scheme.

Charlie getting her dream happy ending. I wish more people on the show did.

    Continuity with Cas.

    The not so good:

    Sluggish pacing.

Somewhat detached performances that made moments fall flat.

A lot of Charlie's dialogue was overly cute and forced.

That weird conversation with Sam and Dean about books, which just caused more fan fighting and angst.

    ReplyDelete
  69. They did with Adam and Dean and Sam had burned his body to ashes.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Good point about the witch controlling Sam while Zeke was in him. Yeah the writers messed up on that one.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Unfortunately there was no way that Charlie would have stayed dead.
    X
Thomson is too much in love with his creation to kill her off. She'll be back to reduce the brothers to wall-paper once again!:)

    ReplyDelete
  72. But he did use Ezekiel, even when the angel told him it would mean having to stay inside Sam longer.

Dean put Charlie's well-being before his brother's, in this instance.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Esp as Dean doesnt seem to be stopping and thinking about the physical and by association the future emotional affects on Sam everytime he shouts for Ezekiel to intercede.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I enjoyed the episode, wasn't my favourite, but entertaining none the less.
But seeing all those motorcycles in the garage just reminded me of Alaina Huffman's tweet about wanting Abaddon to ride of motorbike, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Oh, I forgot about that. I don't remember much of S5.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yeah, Dean doesn't seem to be thinking about the impact on Sam at all.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Season 1, 2, 4, and 5 are my favorite seasons so I remember those better than others. Seasons 1-5 I've had marathons on. Season 6-8 I haven't had a chance yet and am in no rush to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Wait, why isn't a character allowed to be smarter than the Winchesters?

    ReplyDelete
  79. It was an ok episode, I've enjoyed other filler episodes a lot more than this one though.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Because the Winchesters are the heroes of this particular show and to have secondary characters come along and make them look less than they are, just so a writer can pile praise on his favourite character, which is what happened with Charlie in this episode, is annoying!
    X

She was a real little Mary Sue; i doubt anyone can deny that!

Then if she had been an expert in Biology or Astrometrics,or in anything that the brothers' weren't ,I wouldn't have minded so much, but to come along and be better in everything they have been doing for the past eight years is just annoying.
    X

Even the way she was filmed, it seemed she had this otherworldly glow about her. Everything was done to make her look so so special.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Back In Black Tricksteress 95October 31, 2013 at 10:24 AM

I don't percieved him being dumb but I do wish he actually challenges Dean more which it will happen. He knows that he not 100% and it shows that there is the brotherly trust and respect for Dean. However, I do think he actually knows something up already he is just piecing it together. Overall I don't like this secret at all and I wonder if all hell will break loose when he finds out! I see a light at the end of the tunnel when this does happen :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. I agree, she is always made out to be the golden girl and can do no wrong and has to save the boys. She shows up and they totally forget every thing they have ever learned..hunting, computers, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I liked everything about it except the Wicked Witch. I'm actually liking this season quite a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Welll as it's said the writers get more dollars each time their original character is used, I'm sure we'll be treated to another episode with Supergirl Charlie.
    X

I wonder if we'll get to see Krissy again? Not that I want to, but she too is an original character and her creator might want to get her back into an episode.

Maybe she and her little buddies will be in the spin-off.It's supposed to happen in ep 20, not that far off now.

It's strange that no-one is talking about it.

The TVD one made a lot more noise!
    X

I think most people are afraid of what these bad writers might come up with. lol

    ReplyDelete
  85. TVD spin off is MUCH better than the original, but they used characters that everyone already knew. I started watching because I LOVE Elijah and could do without Klaus and Hayley, but have surprised myself and really like both these characters in this show.

Krissy is another one I would I hope never to see again. Would much prefer Becky and/or Chuck.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I can do straight marathons of only Seasons 1-3. I will not skip a single episode.
I can watch almost all of 4, but there are few episodes I never re-watched in S4. S5 was more miss than hit for me. Many of the episodes I watched only once when they originally aired. Like that Cris Angel episode or the zombie episode or the Whore of Bablyon episode - I only watched the night they aired.
I took a real liking to the first half of S6 and can watch marathon the first 14 episodes. I didn't care for the wild west one, the Titanic one, or many of the other episodes after Mannequin 3. I did enjoy TFM. That episode was hilarious, IMO.
S7 was awful, but S8 was worst! There are more episodes in those two seasons that I hate than I like, which is sad. I don't know this season will fare out, but I liked the first three episodes, which is more than I can say for last season.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I believe he's said it before in an episode from last season. I have never given even one of last year's episodes a second watch so I don't remember which one it is.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I liked even the weakest episodes of Season 1 and 2 like Hookman, Hollywood Babylon, but after Season 2 the stand-alone type episodes started to get really bad. There were really good ones but there were bad ones too. I didn't like Ghostfacers, Long Distance Call, and Time Is On My Side in Season 3. And they started an ever increasing bad stand-alone episode run for the rest of the series. I haven't loved many stand-alones since then. Not many myth-arc episodes have disappointed though, until the last couple years. I love myth-arc episodes. That's why S4 and S5 are so high on my list.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I totally loved the episode, but yeah...charlie dying was not a fun time. Thank god for DVRs and fast forwarding through commercials because I would have been sobbing the entire commercial break. It totally caught me off guard (like Cas' death last week!)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Really did not like tis weeks episode. I thought the whole Oz thing was lame.
