This ep is not the first time Emily has read/heard the passes from her father's diary that Nolan read to her tonight. She read that passage in the pilot. So, basically, she would never have had his approval or anything she's done since the show started.
You mean she did NOT go "too far" when: - She bankrupted that investment banker, turning thousands of people jobless? - Kidnapped her shrink? - Set a freaking house on fire. - Went along with hiding Frank's murder. - And then went along with hiding White Haired Man's murder. - And then framed Mason.
Her father would not approve of ANY of those things...
Face it, dearie, the very REASON all of us are watching this show is for badass Emily to "go too far" and to surprise us in her cunning deviousness.
The definition of what I feel about this episode would be "Conflicted".
On one hand YAY for classic revenge scenarios being back and Emily NOT tip-toeing over her revenge and actually going through with it and being all devious dark and anti-heroic.
On other hand I fear this will lead into some silly "redemption" or "forgiveness" scenario, which is NOT what this show should be about. If it went towards that, I, at least hope that the wedding shooting will set Ems back onto road of revenge again.
The show OPENED UP with telling us that "this is not a story about forgivenes". So, please, please, please DON'T make this about forgiveness and redemption.
Emily giving up her Revenge and becoming a good guy would be as uncharacteristic as Walter White giving up Crime and becoming a priest.
I just got onto this show this summer. I'm all caught up now and have enjoyed it so far. However, I could see myself at some point getting tired of Emily's continuous need for revenge at all costs. Eventually, (I'm not saying now) I would like to see her let go of her hatred and move on, settle down with Jack. Maybe they could change perspective a little. Emily has a lot of enemy's at this point who would want to seek revenge on her so she could become the hunted rather than the hunter. JMO
I'm still not adjusting to this "reset." There needs to be continuity and growth for the characters as the seasons progress. I dont think I'll be watching for long.
Well I'm kinda enjoying her going dark and dangerous.. But now after Jack's revelation I'm afraid she start to get whining about the dead 'horse' boring Declan again..
Yawn, yes, yes I will come back to hate her. Down there Declan was one too boring and useless character, there's no need for someone to avenge him at this point..
I liked it better than the premiere, but Christa Allen aka Charlotte is making me cry. Her acting was beyond bad. Not a emotion when talking about Amanda or Declan, or her miscarriage or when she was "mad" at Conrad. Come on!!!
it was pretty good, the Aiden-Hating Emily thing makes it really interesting i hated the guy before but now i hate him even more, what does he want¿? he practicly told Victoria everything! except Emily was in fact Amanda!... I loved how Emily could see that not always revenge is teh best way for things but it was too late! and now lets see how she is going to fix that.... Still Patrick looks like a Filler character i hope the writters have an interesting storyline on him but now i think about it Victoria can use him to Geet to Nolan cause as we see Nolan is now a men-whore...
Oh, but he didn't tell her the most important part, did he? What he told her was all too vague, even if it was all true. And all great lies are based on some truth. I have a feeling he's trying to gain her trust, but he doesn't intend to reveal anything that would be too damaging to Ems.
Am I the only one still confused that they did not explain what happened this summer, after the final? What exactly happened between Daniel and Aiden? Did Charlotte really have a miscarriage? I'm frustrated about this reset. I like that the show is sort of back to its roots, but I need certain answers!
Loved it. I have a very high suspicion that the french chick is in with Emily. She will likely use her to catch Daniel in a compromising position or something. Speaking of which, I was really surprised he didn't go for it. I liked everything and every storyline in this episode. I don't know what the deal is with Ayden. If he is really against Emily, he would just tell Victoria she is Amanda, there is something more to that story. Loved Emily realizing she had done the wrong thing only to realize that she had to undoit... to go full on revengy ahah!
Charlotte really had a miscarriage, she stated that plenty of times during this episode. She said to Conrad that she was sure she miscarried because of how her guilt made her feel. The Daniel-Aiden thing has to be revisited at some point, but i think they will go there once they explain what happened with Aiden.
Yeah I agree with this, he didn't reveal her what really matters. Victoria already mistrusted Emily, it didn't change a thing. There has to be something more there.
I am enjoying her way more than ever this season (early season 2 was also good actually). I am glad Declan is gone, he was the real issue for both her and Jack IMO.
I think the last scenes, in which we see her facing a devasted, broken and even human Conrad, followed by her saying she will use the priest to explore that weakness of him, shows 100% that she will not go down that path. It was like the writers were fooling with us on purpose, only to reassure us that she is deadset on revenge.
She obviously isn't the brightest character there, but without Declan any character of this show is great. Thanks God, Declan gone...
All I know is that I cried buckets over FauxAmanda, the white-trash, slutty murderer, that I didn't even like her, but I didn't shed one tear over Declan. Declan was a waste of a character, and girls like Charlotte IRL don't date guys like him. That plot was a pointless part of the show extremely far fetched and full of useless cliches.
Jack is another boring character that I can't stand. It's probably the actor and his height doesn't help him much. He looks like a freaking goblin waddling about
I thought the same thing about Aiden telling Victoria, but then, why was he trying to get the revenge-box if not to have proof of who Emily really is? ... or would she believe him without proof? I can't decide.
Not exactly. It's not as satisfying when the wrong people start getting hurt, which is happening more and more lately. Making her fiance Daniel think he might have a life-threatening disease was also pretty cruel, given that he played no role in her father's death. So I agree about her taking it too far.
I absolutely hate I when people suggest that she should stop and think about what she's doing! I mean it's nice to see a little emotion in Emily every know and them but it's still really annoying, I watch the show to see her get revenge, not to listen to people telling her to stop...
I had no idea that he would tell her that,I actually believed that he might tell her about Amanda, seeing as though she supposedly stabs Conrad after saying the words "This is for my father" (although it is presumably a dream sequence...)
Yeah you're right they mentionned the miscarriage, but for some reason I can"t believe it's as simple as that, and even it's just a "normal" miscarriage I would expect them to show a little more how it affected Charlotte and her family, but maybe it'll come later in the season. However I'm really impatient about the Daniel-Aiden thing ^^
I could be mistaken, but didn't they say that Huntington's disease runs through the Grayson line? So, he very well could have it - no matter what Emily is doing to Conrad.
The thing is - WOULD Vickie even BELIEVE him when he said that? She doubts his motives on even basic of stuff and he clearly was looking for the box in Ems house - so he might want to have some PROOF of that before revealing all his cards
For instance, Michelle Banks was still organizing a program to help children's mental health when Emily exposed her at the benefit- in fact that was the very pitch video Emily so vengefully interrupted. Tom Kingsley had to have helped some people in society as a senator, even if they weren't necessarily the most deserving.
But helping the community is a priest's job. Even the priests who molest little kids still help the community. So do dirty cops.
Most of Emily's takedown victims have already been helping people in legitimate ways as a mere byproduct of their privilege. Very good episode - unlike season 2 quite straight forward. I'm glad the show is getting better again. I like Guilty Nolscience :-) Wouldn't be surprised if Jack and Charlotte spend at least one night together.
Yes! I like it that the show isn't black and white in any way. There is no Pure Evil in the world and it's should be portrayed as such. We all do both good and evil. But sometimes we can be consumed by the Dark side :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Pretty good episode and it's moving things along nicely.
ReplyDeleteI think I've found my new addiction lol
ReplyDeleteEmily is starting to go too far with the revenge. I don't think her father would approve of anything she's doing anymore

ReplyDeleteThis episode was pretty predictable (even down to guessing what Jack told Charlotte. It wasn't a *bad* episode but they've done better.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad they brought up the pregnancy again, Charlotte seems like a wild card, now that she doesn't really trust anybody, expect for Jack.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte's pregnancy! Yuck.

I really like Father Paul I hope he does indeed come back. Hell I even felt bad for Conrad this week!

ReplyDeleteThat would be cool for a later season for sure! For now I think there is still a lot to do! But I like your idea for the future!
ReplyDeleteI think the last scenes, in which we see her facing a devasted, broken and even human Conrad, followed by her saying she will use the priest to explore that weakness of him, shows 100% that she will not go down that path. ReplyDeleteThat's the whole point of the show since the first episode.
ReplyDeleteThat last sentence completely sounded like Rumple from OUTA. Made me smile.
ReplyDeleteI agree that nows not the time, but eventually.

ReplyDeleteAgreed. Em's herself stated in the pilot "This is NOT the story about forgiveness". That premise is the very reason the show is still on air.
ReplyDeleteYeah I did love the fact that the reason she decides to "Save" the priest is not because of guilt and all that stuff, but because she can USE him .
ReplyDeleteThat gave me some hope, but I fully expect her determination to waver as the shooting comes closer, only to be reignited by it.
The thing is - WOULD Vickie even BELIEVE him when he said that? She doubts his motives on even basic of stuff and he clearly was looking for the box in Ems house - so he might want to have some PROOF of that before revealing all his cards
