Not as awesome as last week, but still great. Glad we're getting more backstory for Neal and also Pan! It sounded like Pan grew up with Rumple before either one was immortal, which would him very old indeed.
What a great episode. It had everything I've been waiting to see in a Rumpel/Nealfire reunion since season 1. Rumpel owning his life of nasty habits.... I loved it. THIS is character devleopment!
Also I was yelling at my screen when Neal inked Rumpel, but the rift between them is too great to bear any moreressure. Neal made a choice to finally give up hope on his father, and a plan that was so close to succeeding failed :(
Jennifer broke my heart in this as well. Same with Snow/Charming scene. They are both hurting after seeing Emma's pain. And I love Hook's aside with Charming. Charming is so stubborn, that's where Emma gets it from! I liked his concern for him and the emotion in his face when talking about Nealfire. I can't wait for their reunion.
Altogether, a fantastic episode! More like this, please!
I'm not sure if I like Peter Pan I'm still not liking this bad Peter cause I'm used to the nice Peter but we'll see if I like him down the line.
I feel bad for Emma she thinks she lost Neal but doesn't know he's alive. I hope they find each other soon they always do. Really liked the Neal and Rumple scenes very nice to see their reunion but Neal should've listened to Rumple he knew what would happen and did.
I can't stop crying on the inside. I'm not showing it, but on the inside I feel like blubbering up a sea of tears. That's all. AMAZING episode, so satisfying in so many areas and yet I feel like, "WHHHHYYYYYYYYY?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?" :'-( I can't wait for next week. Of course, I always feel this way every week!!!
I think they're on a roll, this season. I appreciate that they're moving the story along, not throwing in a lot of gimmicks (for the sake of shockers), and they're taking their time with the new characters. I feel like, this time last year, we were being overwhelmed with a new fairy tale character (or two) every episode.
It all feels organic and naturally developed. I do wish Tinkerbell stuck around a little longer, though.
I agree with you Neal did use a kid as bait but he knew nothing would happen to him on the other hand Rumple did want to kill Henry plus Neal already don't trust his father so I think it was an appropriate reaction but I really want to see them get along soon.
I really liked the episode the Neal\Rumple reunion, the Charming\Hook scenes was both fun and emotional and I love how hook gets emotional when he talks about Neal
The hole scene with Emma saying she still loves Neal I hope we get an Emma\Neal reunion soon she needs to know he is still alive and the conversation between Charming and Snow brought me to tears I want him to tell her but how can he it will break her heart :(
One thing I wish they did expand on was Henry no longer feeling loved. It seemed to have happened so quickly in the last minute or two. I wish Pan had been teasing him throughout the episode about no one was coming for him until it finally cumulated in the end. Seemed out of character for Henry to give up hope immediately after Pan said that to him.
What an awesome father/son theme. Was surprised that Pied Piper was Peter Pan. I wish it was someone else, like a real pied piper who was hired by Pan to kidnap children. I kinda have this naive idea that characters should be separate as how they were originally. Like I already had a difficult time adjusting that Rumple is also Beast (but now I'm warmed up already to the idea). And then, I heard many of you wanting Regina to be Ursula. Come on guys.
Anyways, it's understandable that Neal is still learning to trust his own father, and I think he regretted immobilizing Rumple now Henry is back to Pan. But please dear god don't let Rumple be back to wanting to kill Henry. It's the opposite of character development. We've been over this. Remember Regina last season when she wanted to redeem herself then back to her evil self, it's messy, people don't like it. If you want to write a character development, stick with it.
Not really buying Henry's transformation into a Lost Boy. He's spoiled rotten and adored and lives what is pretty much a life of absolutely zero consequence.
I'm glad we got a lot of Rumple's issues addressed but Neal remains such a weak and badly drawn character. I'm a little unimpressed about how they keep trying to make Belle and Rumple creepy; he 'loves' her but is basically terrible to her at every opportunity. And yeah, this is supposed to be an illusion/hallucination but it's also a way to force Emilie de Ravin into some screentime and get some Rumbelle going, so why does it come across so badly?
Am I the only one who can't stop staring at Robbie Kay's (Peter Pan) eyebrows? Haha
But other than that it was an okay-ish episode. But I do have a say from a biased point, the if you're not really bothered by Bae/Rumpel + Neal/Rumpel story line/relationship, then it may not necessarily be your favourite episode. Just an opinion :)
Besides for RC's and RK's acting, I thought this one was just "good" or "ok", as there is just too much repetition at this point and, because of Pan and Jacob/MIB parallels (Jacob's "lute"), it was easy to determine that Peter Pan is The Pied Piper. It was also easy and kind of pointless, to save Henry just to turn around and let Henry get re-caught and again driving a wedge between Bae/Neal and Rumple.
Obviously Peter Pan is about breaking everyone down, but I'll be more grateful when we get into his story. (and can someone turn Felix into a toad already! He's such a brooding character!)
Shippers apart. Emma is starting to understand Bae's sad childhood. I wonder when she finds out Milah fled with Hook, leaving her son behind with Rumple
This episode was good but the weakest this season for me.... seriously I don't know how I can love MRJ and young Bae but HATE AdultBae/Neal so much....I really loved Robbie Kay, Rumple/Neal first scene and Regina's few lines but I absolutly hated Emma's breakdown...
Just an okay episode for me, moved a little too slowly for me. I'm still waiting for the show to finally show what more of Pan's power, nothing we've seen so far is something The Dark One should be afraid of. Henry suddenly hearing the flute seemed a little rushed to me but I'm curious to find out how exactly Pan and RUmple know each other.
I'm kind of thinking Pan's Power might be of actually telling the truth, because this episode did kind of prove that it was Rumple who failed to faith in Bae, because he was SO sure that Pan was tricking him and so he cut to the chase...and I think it's the truth of these characters flaws that is at the heart of their own misgivings. So perhaps 'the truth is what will set them free', but I do hope there are some "happier" truths to be revealed as well, instead of only breaking them down because of their flaws...
Agree about Robert and Robbie Kay is doing a great job as Pan. I have no interest in Neal and his too-late realization of family so this is my least favorite of this season.
That's still no excuse for how Neal treated her, first when she was 17 and he promised her a forever home and then put her in jail and left her pregnant. She even went to Tallahassee for 2 years hoping he would come looking for her. Then when they did meet up in Manhattan, he again rejected her because she was working for Rumple.
She can forgive him later if he shows he's truly changed, but she should never take him back. It demeans the strength of Emma to have her pining over someone who treated her badly, no matter what his background. Milah may have left, but he still had a father who adored and protected him. Emma didn't have anywhere near that.
I really liked it. This season is really doing it for me. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it really worked for me, I am really into it and I enjoy every scene a lot. I thought the flashback made sense and added to the plot and I enjoyed all the dynamics in neverland. I don't miss storybrooke because I am really liking this. I am not even Rumple's biggest fan but I am loving what they are doing with his character. The whole Charming situation is also interesting and I loved that at the ending Pan was able to make Henry feel lost. Great acting by the guy portraying him. For me, the show is back to what I love.
i have a feeling Felix being the one to ultimately betrayal Pan. Think bout it how much abuse can Felix or other Lost Boys take before they snap and turn on him lol
The way he flipped his dagger over and over and looking at Henry sorta tells me he's hatching a plan of maybe rescuing him for maybe he figured Pan is nothing but a psychopath who doesn't give a rats ass(pied piper joke) bout anyone but himself and i believe Felix had just had enough crap from him lol
Remember those who are loyal can stay loyal to a certain point before they starting questioning their own self.
I'm really into Pan story line. How old his he? How did he get to Nederland in the first place there a lot of question that I can't wait to learn. I can't wait to see the Hook and Emma kiss I been waiting forever to see it.
It was okay. It felt a bit lackluster? Maybe because we have had like WAY too much Neal/Baelfire backstory by now. Also, where was Tinkerbell? Wish stupid Neal would just trust Rumple already, I can already see the ending of that storyline.
In most cases I agree that the back-stories we are getting are unnecessary and just don't add anything but with the Peter Pan involvement and with how much it tied with present day events (unlike in some season 2 episodes where it was just pure filler) I liked this. This being said, I think they need to find a way to reinvent their storytelling like Lost did for its last 3 seasons next year. They can't keep coming back to fairytale land around these characters ,there won't be enough to show.
Agree with this. I think it will be something along these lines. That being said, it doesn't explain why The Dark One would have to be afraid of him or even Regina, they could easily deal with that.
I don't think it was pointless to save Henry and leave it behind, I think it worked greatly as a plot point to show the conflict between Neal and Rumple. The flashback also tied in very nicely unlike other cases. I must be a strange person because I complain a lot about the show being repetitive and when everyone complains of that I disagree and don't find it repetitive ahah
Don't forget that Henry was abandoned by Emma. It's not absurd to think that he could be susceptible to this kind of manipulation. As much as he has been adored later, growing up with Regina as his mother (I love her but still) and thinking his parents abandoned him must be something that sticks and could be exploited at an easy turn, which is what Pan is doing.
I agree that I don't like with they mix up the characters too much. It seems like a way to keep the main characters present in every storyline. Sometimes it is well done because the keep that character supporting (e.g. Snow White in the Red Handed episode in season 1 which is still one of my favorite episodes of the show) but in other they just merge the characters too much. Here I didn't mind it to be honest and thought it fit.
Also, I agree with you that for Rumple to want to kill Neal would be for the writers to make the same Regina mistake as they did in season 2 (except here they actually took an episode to establish a motivation for the change, i.e. Neal is alive so he has a reason to live, as contrived as it may be)
Don't forget that Henry was abandoned by Emma. It's not absurd to think that he could be susceptible to this kind of manipulation. As much as he has been adored later, growing up with Regina as his mother (I love her but still) and thinking his parents abandoned him must be something that sticks and could be exploited at an easy turn, which is what Pan is doing.
My issue with the Neal being in love with Emma thing is that he was rejecting that idea vehemently and was in love and wanting to marry Tamara less than a week ago (I think, I am confused with how much time has elapsed since the events of season 2 finale)
Emma didn't abandon him at all. It's not like he's never met Emma or Neal and he's confused about his parentage. Adam Horowitz is trying to convince us that two years have passed (not at all true, but okay) so that means Henry would have been spoiled rotten by everyone for two years. And spoiled rotten by Regina for years before that, considering he had all that disposable income, no punishments and was basically just spoiled by everyone in town his entire life.
Emma gave him for adoption, that's what I meant with abandoning him. That could leave scars. As for Regina having disposable income and not punishing him, that means nothing in terms of whether or not you believe you are cared for. I didn't know about that 2 years thing, where was it said? If that is true then I am more inclined to agree with you but still, I think the giving him up thing could have left scars that Pam could take advantage of.
I understand what you are saying about Emma, Charming and Regina always doing everything for him; however, I think our viewing perception biases us. I don't honestly buy that it's been 2 years since Emma arrived to Storybrooke, but even if that were to be true, that's 2 years out of like 14 (not sure what Henry's age is supposed to be). As spoiled as he has been during this time, there is a lot of time which I could believe he spent feeling abandoned and unwanted. The fact that we never saw that time and the fact that we are always seeing all those people you've mentioned doing everything for you clouds our perception IMO.
But it kind of does, because people fear what they don't understand, which in Rumple and Regina's case is, who they really are and what their parents did to them and the nature of Neverland and/or Pan. They fear Pan because he threatens to take things away that they allegedly care about...and because he forces them to acknowledge all of the painful things about themselves.
I get where you are coming from, believe me, I often felt frustrated with the show due to the repetitive dances they do. But right now I think I am just in the mood for it because it has not bothered me and I feel like we are adding new layers to the characters. But like I said, maybe it's a mood thing ;)
It was great! Rumpel and Baelfire (Enchanted forest) always deliver, i hate the guy that plays Neal i like him being Bael, i hate him being Henry`s father i just dont see him like that, and being stupid enough to get rigth into Pan`s trap, that was just what Pan needed to make Henry feel lonely and start hearing that freaking flute! btw nice move to make Pan the same guy of that story!
I really don't know how much more fairytale-land/backstory for the current series regulars they could have. Everything just seems recycled or not even entertaining. Apart from when they introduce new characters and have other characters stories tie in with them etc. Tink & Regina.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Way to fall right into that trap Pan played on you, Neal. If you had your father with you, that wouldn't have happened.
ReplyDeleteAww at that conversation Snow and Charming had. Tell her!
Did not see Pan as Pied Piper coming. I hope Henry's just playing Pan.
Great episode!
well done ep! Great scenes with Neal/gold and Rumple/Pan/Piper.... wasn't expecting the twist of Pan as the Piper... really enjoyed it
ReplyDeleteNot as awesome as last week, but still great. Glad we're getting more backstory for Neal and also Pan! It sounded like Pan grew up with Rumple before either one was immortal, which would him very old indeed.
ReplyDeleteWow! That was one of the best episodes of the series!!! Totally changed my outlook on this season!

ReplyDeleteepisode like this a piece of Pan full story.

ReplyDeleteThis Neverland story is starting to get stale, hope they don't drag it out

ReplyDeleteI think Felix looks like the FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs - ugly, creepy and enough already!
ReplyDeleteInteresting episode but will we ever know the story of Pan because from the looks of it he is more powerful than anyone and much older.
ReplyDeleteAgree about Robert and Robbie Kay is doing a great job as Pan. I have no interest in Neal and his too-late realization of family so this is my least favorite of this season.

As I've said in another comment:

ReplyDeleteI agree, yes. That's why I said they need to reinvent storytelling. Lost faced the same issue and had magnificent, innovative storytelling afterwards.
ReplyDelete
