  1. That was much better than I thought it'd be! I loved it. The special effects are sometimes good, sometimes bad (like at the end).

Wonder how Knaves ended up in Storybrooke, though.

I hardcore ship Alice/Knave already, but it's going to be hard with Cyrus still alive.

    Can't wait for next week!

  2. So good! That changed some things from the pilot presentation that I watched but I was fine with it. The CGI was horrible in spots but the story was overall really good!

  3. It was a pretty solid first episode

    Pros

    - I like pretty much every character except the Queen of Hearts, she just seems kinda meh. I can't help but giggle a bit anytime Naveen Andrews waves his hands all magic like because all I see is Sayid. My favorite character had to be Will/Knave, I'm a sucker for accents man. I find Alice to be a strong lead and an overall badass, she really feels like a solid mix between the Tim Burton Alice and American Mcgee Alice. John Lithgow is fantastic as the rabbit, but surprised me the most was Keith David as Cheshire, he did amazing, and I hope he gets more screentime.

    - They're really using the world of Wonderland we know quite well. I'm excited to see tons more of the place before the season is over.

    - I like that they already very briefly crossed over with stuff from Storybrooke.

    - Coupled with that, a look at the real world and how dark that asylum was really impressed me. Those doctors freaked me out a tiny bit and Alice's air of hopelessness was frankly kinda depressing.

-Overall plot is pretty good. I'm interested to see what is going to happen with the Queen and the Rabbit and the Queen and Jafar. I expect quite a bit of backstabbing. I really hope Will gets a chance to show his complete loyalty to Alice at some point.

    Cons

-Fighting scenes were really trash. I'm sorry but Alice and Cyrus vs all the soldiers was poorly executed and frankly boring. The fight between Alice and the doctors was a bit better, but still obviously faked and poorly executed.

    - There was a few moments where the special effects just kinda sucked. I mean I expect as much with how much has to be done to make Wonderland seem real but still.

-I like the romance between Cyrus and Alice, but i really wish they didn't focus on it so much. All the promo for next week talked about was love and relationships. Chill out guys. Maybe focus a little on the weirdness of Wonderland? I kinda wish there was an episode where we just saw Alice's first adventure because I really want to see way more of Wonderland.

    Verdict

Great start and a good spinoff, but it has some kinks to work out. 7.5/10

  4. Love it.

Am I the only one who wants to see the Red Queen kick Jafar's ass? He just comes off as Rumpelstiltskin-lite. And we already have a Rumpelstiltskin.

  5. I loved what u had to say only thing i need to correct. That was the Red Queen not the Queen of Hearts. The Queen of Hearts is (or was) Cora. That character is featured in ALice in Wonderland. The Red Queen is from the sequel: THOUGHT THE LOOKING GLASS, AND WHAT ALICE FOUND.

  6. Loved it. Love how they changed it up a bit from the original 20 presentation. Being that this is tv and tv doesnt get a huge budget like movies when it comes to CGI i'm going to argue the CGI. Its a great start and cant wait to see where the stories go. Looking forward to next week

  7. Wow, that was just simply amazing and this show just became my favorite new show this season!

It had action, humor, amazing performances from everyone, stunning visuals (for a TV show, obviously) etc. The Knave is already my favorite character so far. He gave the best lines this episode. A+ Michael Socha. Alice is a bad ass and Sophie Lowe did an awesome job portraying her.

I really hope this show is successful because I already love it more than OUAT. Oops.

  8. I agree with you on the Alice/Knave ship. I think that they have great chemistry. I mean I saw it right away. Right when he came to break her out. I think I'll have to see more scenes of her with Cyrus in order to determine how much chemistry they have compared to her and Knave.

  9. Oh crap my bad. I thought that the Red Queen had replace Cora as the Queen of Hearts. I've never actually read the novels just kinda picked things up from other sources. Thanks for point that out :)

  10. This was pretty great and more enjoyable than the last couple episodes of OUAT. I'm reserving judgment on the Red Queen (who looked amazing in the promos but was meh), Jafar (also meh), and Cyrus (also also meh) until we get more scenes with them.

Alice kicked some serious ass. And the Cheshire Cat was terrifying!

  11. I loved to see a show down between them two. i wonder who would win??

  12. Great, poke the dragon with a stick why don't you. I'll just stand over here out of the way of the blast radius.

  13. Lol, you ship everyone :P

    ReplyDelete
  14. Really hoping they don't ruin this by being over the top cheesy, ( that's the reason I stopped watching OUAT) but I love Alice so I have real hope for this show, the casting seems solid.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I have a lot of ships, but I don't ship everyone. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hehe, I know - kidding :p

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm reserving judgment. It probably didn't help that I was doing some work while watching it.

  18. It was alright. It was the first time I actually didn't care for the villains. I already dislike the Red Queen not because she is suppose to be bad but because she seems kind of stupid. I wished Cora would have been the main female villain because she would not have let Jafar treat her like he treated the Red Queen. Here's hoping Cora will make appearances at least in flashbacks! Alice was pretty cool herself for a good character much more kick ass than Snow so far.
I was wondering throughout the show though since many characters said something to the effect that Wonderland isn't what it use to be. And I noticed the animal characters eyes were red so I wonder if they are somehow under Jafar's control?
Overall, I'm interested in what will happen next but not completely thrilled.

  19. Sorry, it's just my opinion. I did say a little bit though so I still love it.

  20. it didn't quite meet my expectations for it, but I liked it enough to rate it a "good" I get that the "I'll find you no matter what love" is the overriding theme of the show, it just felt too heavy handed in the writing to a degree. But of course this is the pilot so once all that is set up, they can soften the tone in the writing somewhat. I did like the action parts and Alice, warming to the Knave, but didn't get anything from Jafar and the RQ so far. A couple of things (in the writing) that I felt was questionable was: the doctors mentioned that Alice had disappeared a few times (presumably to go get some evidence) from the time she was a little girl, and she didn't get anything at all until she caught the rabbit as a young adult? I'd think that even a fire breathing dragonfly or something equally unusual would go a long way as proof. The other thing that felt thin (unless they explain it later) was the Knave in cursed Storybrooke - how did he get there, and how would he have known the rabbit and who he was as the curse was still in effect and the only ones who knew who was whom were Rumple and Regina. A good start and will keep watching for improvement

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think Jafar comes across more menacing than Rumple. Rumple had a comic element to him.

  22. I was…underwhelmed. I loved the 20 minute preview they showed at Comic-Con (it leaked online) and I really liked the lines, “All right Rabbit, dig your hole," and how Alice delivered, "Long ago, I helped you get back your heart. Now, you need to help me get back mine." This time it felt cheesy. But the preview had that cinematic feel which unfortunately, the pilot didn't have. The Knave was hysterical and looks to be the comic relief in the show. The Cheshire Cat looked really cool, which has me excited. Sure, the CGI looked terrible at some points, but it was a good pilot. The only part that annoys me is the Red Queen. The accent doesn't suit the character at all and makes me think they should’ve cast another actress. But all in all, it saddens me that it I didn't catch on to it like I did with OUAT, but there’s room to improve! Rate:Great/Good, still deciding.

  23. OK, Love the premiere, but a long question regarding the timeline.

The first scene with Alice establishes her as a mid to late 1800's contemporary, evidenced by the Victorian style and in her later hospital scenes (where there are no electric lamps, but candle lamps).

We first see the Knave of Hearts in Storybrook; he walks past Grumpy and Cinderella into Granny's restaurant. Now, we know from the main OUAT story that the curse starts in our time in 1984 and is broken in 2012. We even see the Knave walk down the road, almost hit by what appears to be Emma's yellow Bug car.

He goes into Granny's and the Rabbit appears, telling him Alice is in trouble. But Alice is in the 1880's (using 1880's for the sake of simplicity).

So, how exactly does this fit with the timeline of the original OUAT story? Does the Rabbit bring the Knave back in time to help Alice in the past?

Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to suspend disbelief as I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. In fact, loved it. But that opening scene seems to throw time completely out the window.

    Anyone else notice this?

    ReplyDelete
  24. OK, on rewatch, the Knave, when rescuing Alice is in modern style clothing, so it seems the Rabbit can not only dig between worlds, but time as well. Guessing that's why everyone is always "late".

    ReplyDelete
  25. yeah, I noticed this as well but I've just passed it off as that the Enchanted Forest, Wonderland, Neverland, et al are alternate universes where time moves at different rates or in the case of Neverland- doesn't move at all, as you supposedly would never age there. I aslo assume that the Rabbit (and possibly Peter Pan) can access all of these worlds by moving thru time as well as dimensions, which would explain the Rabbit/Knave travelling in this ep as well as why young Baelfire would go from TEF, to victorian London for a bit, to Neverland for a long number of years and then eventually escaping to our world where's he's aged to his current form as Neal...

  26. it was great i liked it, the premise looks good, BUT OMG those effects were HORRIBLE! they need to do something ASAP about that!

    ReplyDelete
  27. OK, like this explanation, this is what I was kind of thinking. One moment that threw me though, was near the end, when they found the mad hatters house empty and Knave said, 'Ok Rabbit, make a portal home". He was referring to both himself and Alice. So, which home? Storybrooke present, or Victorian London?

But I digress, I'm going with your explanation. Best not to think too closely about this stuff. After all, I forget sometimes, it's fantasy, not Physics.

But thanks for the well reasoned reply. Appreciated.

  28. Liked it, but lately I havent gotten too interested in anything. These TV networks have a cancel bug.

    REALLY disappointed.

    - Overuse of bad CGI. And the landscapes do not even look original as its clearly "inspired" by Madness Returns.
    - Logic-defying character stupidity from time to time.
    - Disjointed storyline.

Frankly the only relatively decent parts of the storyline so far seem to be Red Queen and Jaffar stuff(and the fact that Alice is at least partially similar to Madness Returns Alice), otherwise meh.

  30. the effects were bad, but since this was the pilot I'm not going to make up my mind just yet.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The pilot was rather underwhelming but I'll stick around to see if it improves.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, I noticed that too, he first appear in storybrooke in "our time" but Alice is clearly in another century so my guess is that the rabbit took him back in time like you said. It was a bit confusing...
I really didn't like it, the CGI were terrible and it looked like a poorly written parody of alice in wonderland. Probably the most boring pilot I have watched in a very long time. Wont watch again.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ahh, well, that solves it. Thanks man, did not know that. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. The premise and story is interesting. Alice is a good flawed heroine, and the actress is convincing enough. The Red Queen is terrible. She comes across as the bitchy, mean girl, prom queen. I can't say I was at all scared of her, unlike Cora's or Regina's evil scenes. Jafar's hair, makeup, and even wardrobe needs some improving; but the actor did a decent job. Also, there was way too much bad CGI. I guess I wasn't as enamored with this pilot as most of you guys were. I think I'll wait 'till the series/season is over and marathon it, to see the overall story.

  35. Having seen most of the previews I was surprised on the bits which were not released. I like the fact the white rabbit is an agent of the Red Queen. I like Jafar holding the genie in his thrall. I loved how Alice met up with the Cheshire Cat.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It's not bad. it was pretty much what I expected. It's just not my cup of tea. A little too....Alice in Wonderland. Which I don't mean as an insult. I only mean...I'm not into it. I really only watched because I am a Michael Socha fan.

All of that said. I was frequently disappointed that the virtual sets weren't as generally seamless as they are on OUAT. But then I realized that I'm happy they put their money into the virtual characters. I thought they were fantastic.

the only negative comment I have for the show is that I absolutely loathe the casting of the Queen of Hearts.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Do not hate me guys but I thought it was really bad. The story line was kinda boring did not like the Alice and Cyrus paring thought they had no Chemistry what so ever. I like more knaves and Alice but I wish he was the mad hatter in less I'm wrong and he was I'm a little confuse to what he is. Do not get me stared in the queen of heart really don't like who they pick for her. But am a little hard on new shows so I will watch next week and see what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I really, really liked it.
I was not that big a fan of the actress who plays the Red Queen. Kinda a let down cause this could be an epic role.

    ReplyDelete
  39. i like this show. love the whole cast but the the red queen. so happy see Naveen Andrews as Jafar.
