I'm guessing she is going to run the ballistics against every database she can to see if her husband's gun turns up in any crimes. That may help her decipher who her husband is.
The hyper-realism of the show and its villains amuses me so much! Unknown bunkers more than 300 feet underground? Seriously? OF course it's implausible, but in this show's reality I love it! XD
This episode made the CIA feel almost competent which is a nice change of pace from many shows like this with "super" consultants!
I love how Red asked to be dropped off in the shade! XD
Just one of those little details so unique and so perfect to his character.
I loved how Agent Malik and the decryption tech guy spoke in Mandarin despite both speaking English fluently! XD
Elizabeth should know better than to look into her husband on her own. Trust Red for that since so far he is the only one that actually has shown her there is more to her husband than she knows.
Was that Elizabeth's father monitoring the cameras in her place? I haven't been following the press releases, any well known actors with grey hair over 50 lined up to guest star?
Overall a nice solid episode. Maybe not "Awesome" , but certainly "Great!"
I thought this but the I also thought since Red is some big time sneaky criminal he probably would have put some measures in place to make any bond undetectable if they searched for it.
Personally I do not want to know their relation any time soon! I prefer slow reveals a little bit of information at a time and that reveal will affect everything. Every dynamic on the series could be changed.
I'm really loving this show, Spader is just amazing! But the only thing that bugs me is Keen, and that's not all the time her personality generally is fine but it's like they are make her a damsel in distress, I haven't seen anything yet that shows a strong independent agent with skills, people seem to also me saving her. Maybe is the feminist in me but I wanna see her kick some ass (Like Alias' Sydney Bristow comes to mind).
I think she has shown some strength in accepting her husband is an agent, keeping that fact secret and choosing to run her own investigation to see who he is. Maybe she is not going about it in a a very stealthful manner, but I think it is a start.
Also, I'm not sure we can compare Keen to Sidney Bristow from Alias, Shaw from Person of Interest, or any other field agent. Elizabeth Keen is a profiler. She would of course have all the government training as she went through the academy, but she just graduated so she would not have any practical experience of putting those skills to use in the field.
I don't know, I guess in my opinion not every agent (male or female) should be kick ass in the field. They all have different skill sets.
For some strange reason she reminds me of Sydney, maybe because the pilot felt very Alias like in a weird way and maybe that impression is sticking with me. But a couple of scenes in the pilot also made me think of (and miss) Alias, particularly when she comes home after the torture.
I found myself a lot less interested in this episode compared to the previous 2. It was still pretty good and Spader is doing absolutely fantastic as Red. Keene is growing on me, but as of now, she is the weakest link on this show. The other characters are all decent but other then Keene's husband (Tom? I don't remember his name) none of them stick out with me yet. Solid episode 7.5/10
Another vey cool episode and once again stellar work from Mr. Spader who just owns the role every week.
Again the show reminds me of POI and again that's a good thing, rather than copy it, it's instead taking some of what makes POI such a great show on board and then adding in it's own twist to it. Giving us a little info on Red's reason to want to work with Liz without giving us too much is very reminscent of how POI doles out Fince and Reese and makes you want to know more about the backstory.
I think they'll play up on the whole idea we have that Red is Liz's father but in the end go a different route as to go that way would be a bit cliche, perhaps Red is responsible for her father's death or something like that, also considering Red left his own wife and child it doesn't really fit in with the backstory if he comes back to help another one of his children.
The backup cast needs to step up though for this show to really reach it's potential, at the moment none of them really bring anything to the table and are in danger of just looking like fillers.
One last thing is that the show really needs an antagonist to rival Red, someone who brings a sense of danger to Red's world and someone that Red isn't always 12 steps ahead of.
I'm finding myself still entertained by this show, despite some flaws. Spader is the best part about this show, for me, while the lead girl needs a bit more work. At this point, I think I prefer Reddington to be Lizzie's father, than just a weird father figure, like Alias' Sloane to Sydney. I think adding that familial bond will add more drama and a different layer of complexity to Red and Liz's interactions. I'm just waiting for that giant elephant in the room to be addressed. In the meantime, I am enjoying the show and each case/blacklist member.
I think the answer to your third and fifth paragraphs may be the same thing. My favorite theory for the Red-Liz connection at the moment is that her father is on the blacklist (perhaps even #1 on the list) and he's chosen her as part of a long play to get to him. That would be a more interesting resolution than just him being her father, and could give Red an equal to spar with.
Another awesome episode. Love the mystery and the action, love the characters. I really like Elizabeth. I also liked both the FBI and the CIA agent on this one, glad they are developing them a bit. The cases are also very interesting unlike in other shows in which they just feel like filler. Awesome stuff, this show is great!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Not as good as the first two episodes, but still pretty good. The character "Red" was made for Spader.
ReplyDeleteIf you're looking for a show that is truly living up to its full potential, then The Blacklist is the show for you. Awesome episode.
ReplyDeleteI liked this episode but they are being far too cryptic about things. Have they still not run a DNA test to rule out a familial bond?
ReplyDeleteanyone guess what it being about the ballistic report? I guessing Liz husband is more than he appears to be
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing she is going to run the ballistics against every database she can to see if her husband's gun turns up in any crimes. That may help her decipher who her husband is.
ReplyDeleteunless she stopped by her superior from knowing anything....it seem there some national security thing.....her husband is likely a former govt agent

Yep, former or current agent, but for whose government? XD
ReplyDeleteIF the CIA has info on him it could mean he is/ was working for them or against them really....
I wonder who is monitor her must be an associate of Red I guessing
ReplyDeleteprobably CIA agent who retire to have a marry life probably why he got shot because of the past...I hope we know soon than later
ReplyDeleteI took some screencaps..
ReplyDeleteWe may not know who the character is, but perhaps someone can manage to discern who the actor is?
At first I thought it was Robert Forster, then I thought maybe Campbell Scott, but who knows!

This was an awesome episode. It provides a lot of mystery and a lot of new secrets to uncover which is great.

ReplyDeleteI just watched the episode again and as I watched him drop his apple and walk away early in the episode his walk reminded me of Billy Drago!
ReplyDeleteAlthough the screencaps do not necessarily fit Drago... more like Brad Dourif.
Hell if either Drago or Dourif were cast as some recurring role on the series I will be happy!! Most likely it is neither! XD
I had a thought that lead to a wild theory...
ReplyDeleteMaybe Elizabeth's husband was hired by her dad to keep an eye on her.
