Freakin' awesome episode. I wanted 5 more minutes just to see the conversation between Liz and Tom.. Red continues to be a delight, but I hope that sooner or later he gets burned just a bit. When characters are always 3 steps ahead of everyone else, it gets old quickly.
Interesting observation ..maybe he is not letting anything happen to keen because she is his only leverage and by joining FBI maybe he wants to flush him out
That's what I was thinking about... We know he wanted his own protection team and to not stay in the same place more than 2 days... He is paranoid and security conscience, but that does sound a bit like someone who is hiding from someone specific as well.
Really too early to get any real grasp on Red's motivations, but I will be keeping an eye out for motivating factors like that.
It was one of the last scenes of the episode when Red was talking to his operator Grey (played by Charles Baker/ Skinny Pete on Breaking Bad).
Grey mentioned that the "one time favor" from the NSA analyst Red and Keen saved may have been wasted helping Elizabeth Keen when they could have used it to find their adversary.
I know! I thought there was something vaguely familiar about him in the pilot. I paused it and looked closely and then it dawned on me who the actor was!
BTW, in the pilot he aided Red in escaping the hospital. Elizabeth caught a glimpse of him briefly in the elevator as he escaped.
Yeah and as far as I remember, in the first scene of the pilot, it was him who gave the suitcase to Reddington saying "Must be good to be home again, sir." :)
Awesome episode. The blacklister of the week was awesome (glad to see Rober Kneper) although extremely creepy. I like the supporting cast more and more and I am glad they are developing them more and not making it all about Elizabeth and Red. Speaking of which, that relationship is evolving at such a strong pace. I found it very meaningful that he was the one she had to turn to at the end when she realized her husband really was involved in something fishy. I can't wait for the follow up of her conversation with Tom, way to leave us hanging!
That is a good theory. I have always assumed that whatever relationship he had with Elizabeth's father was a good one (as in brothers, best friends, save his life, partners in crime, whatever) but it never occurred to me that the opposite was also possible. I am not quite sure why he would be so protective of Elizabeth then though.
I wondered about that too.... I was thinking perhaps Red is less caring about Elizabeth in the fatherly sense and more concerned for her as an asset- a way to get to her father.
I still think it is more likely Red and her father were friends, or respected acquaintances etc....
I think it would be a huge twist if after a season or two of being almost fatherly to her, it turns out that Red has been using her to bring her father out of hiding! His entire reason for turning himself in was to use her to get to her father. One of those WTFOMG moments if done right.
Any opinion on the mysterious man monitoring Elizabeth? I saw him referred to as The Apple-Eating Man on Seriable and I LOVE that nickname, but still unsure as to who he is or his allegiances.
It definitely would. I am sure we would get the "he started actually caring for her" thing afterwards, but I would be fine with it I think, if it was well done. I think the guy monitoring Elizabeth has something to do with her father, but I cannot go further than that. I suck at theories though, don't trust me too much :P
How awesome to see two much beloved characters from completed series, T-Bag from Prison Break and Skinny Pete from Breaking Bad of course!
Speaking of Robert Knepper... He plays the best villains! Always unique and uniquely disturbing, but never quite like the one before! Although I did get a laugh at the scene where he could only use one hand, much like T-Bag. XD
There were so many good "Red-isms" in this episode! - "Let me put your mind at ease. I never tell you everything!" - Replying to missions having gone sideways and killing 3 people, "I'm not perfect." - "Last time I was there we had a great deal of fun, until she tried to strangle me with her stocking." - "I'll make her talk" [How?] "You don't want me to answer that." - Replying to Cooper's hollow threat if he is screwing him over "I'll consider it a bonus." - "He knows you better than I do and I know where that lovely little freckle is." - "With Dembe driving we might make it just in time to see him die." - Replying to Seth wondering how he will ever repay them, "I'm sure we'll think of something." - "The boy wishes to express gratitude. I'm merely playing my part in the ritual."
So now we know why Red went to the FBI (or at least one reason)... He has an adversary he fears. Could said adversary be Keen's father?
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
hm so Tom is involve in something criminal....he has to be some kind of former govt agent

I can't remember in which scene he was talking about his adversary. Could you tell?

Oh, thanks DarqueMode ;) Now, it's OK. By the way, I can't believe that he is Skinny Pete :D

ReplyDeleteI actually don't feel that they have made him too god-like, I think they have done a good job managing it so far.

I like your theory, that he cares about her as an asset. I would kind of like to see it unfold that way
