really enjoyed the ep, with a neat twist of who the "bad guy" really was at the end! Spader continues to carry the show for me as I'm not sure if it's the writing of the Lizzie character, or the actresses' delivery, but I'm not sold on her as yet.... still, an enjoyable ep
She told the little girl in the pilot that her dad burned her when she was little (gave her a present - referring to her scar). They also had lines that reference her dad being a criminal that worked with Red. But, honestly, I think that somewhere it is going to be revealed that her biological father is Red, not the guy who abused her.
Oops, I may have missed that. I'm down for him being her father, but if they keep dragging the reveal, since it's "obvious", it'll end up being disappointing. Maybe he'll be her uncle or close friend of her father, and clearly knew her from her childhood.
I'm really starting to like it. I liked that the titles are numbered like they are really checking off bullet points off the Blacklist but I do hope there will be a bigger baddie that will take more than one episode to take down.
This was nothing short of awesome. James Spader is actually the acting highlight of the week. The storyline is becoming very interesting. Funnily enough, I do actually trust Reddington. As much as he waits half an hour of episode (which could be however long) to get some sort of truth to the FBI, he does provide the info, and it's right.
I loved the comment from Reddington in the restaurant "Father and daughter then?" Perhaps a sign of things to come?
I think this show is fantastic. I was sold after the premiere. I am super sold now. The characters are fantastic! They just added a group of very interesting secondary (recurring players) and the plot is twisty and keeps you interested. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of Person of Interest. I adore Elizabeth, she is fast becoming one of my favorite TV heroines. I think the show will have to fight hard not to dummify the FBI too much but I trust they will be able to. I am also so intrigued with the overall arcs. What is Raymond's main goal? What is Tom's deal? What is the relationship between Elizabeth and Raymond? All so interesting. Love this.
Really? Lizzie sold me instantly. I know I am a minority here (probably like I a alone) but Spader is my only (very small) issue with the show. I feel too often that he is acting, it's a bit too unrealistic for my taste. But it should be a personal taste, I will get used to it.
Another excellent episode and once again Spader just brings it, the show is very similar to persons of interest in how its written while being different enough so as not to be an out and out copy. If it continues to handle both the COTW and the mythology surrounding the backstory and motives of the red character as well as it has so far then it's on the way to being must see tv for me.
The only thing i was dissappointed in was that Skinny Pete wasn't one of the 2 people that red got them to guard him, although perhaps that's because he'll play a much larger role on the outside of Red's operation.
The other characters came a little more into it in this episode, i'm still not sold on Lizzie but the main fbi guy and the other fbi guy both seem a little more interesting now.
One last thing, i really loved the music in this episode, using sinnerman for Red's escape was just awesome.
Spader makes it worth it. And him sparing with Isabella Rosselini was the BEST. Still pretty meh on Lizzy and what's with taking the husband back like no big deal?
Red and Lizzy's shaky partnership is what makes this show for me. I can forgive all the logic fails and plot holes if they keep the action up and continue to have Red and Lizzy uneasily coexist and poke at each other.
I'm pretty tough on inexperienced girls pretending to be badass with nothing to support it, so every time she tries to assert some sort of authority based on being totally green and out of her league and only at the table because Spader got her her seat, I get annoyed. So when Spader puts her in the "haha isn't your bravado charmingly silly, let me teach you" I don't mind her. When she yells at FBI agents while running around blind, I get annoyed. In fairness, I think my biggest niggle of the show is making the FBI and Justice department quite so aggressively stupid. So her superiors needing told what to do bugs me as much as her telling them.
To be fair, her superiors have yet to prove anything either. She has training on par with almost anyone there and there's nothing to say that her aptitude wouldn't make her more of a natural at this than her colleagues, especially with Red continually pushing her.
I agree. I'm pretty meh on the FBI and Justice at this point. She hasn't shown much natural aptitude or gifted smarts, in fact she's shown a great deal of confusion, which is totally expected since it's like her third day. So while I love, love, love, Spader walking around like he owns the joint, I dislike it when she tries to take over and I dislike it that her experience superior officers are totally clueless to the extent that they let her fumble through it. I can't even watch Covert Affairs anymore, Annie's complete incompetence but lucky success to the point where she was yelling at Joan was too much for me. It's a form of realism that I just can't give up unless they show the character to be special, but right now she's more short bus than Spader.
Lizzy will take as much authority as her superiors are willing to concede (and what Red's leverage provides) which seems to be plenty at the moment so the boneheaded TV feds strike again. It's network TV and the bar is fairly low for me in that realm.
As for Covert Affairs, as soon as the show decided to turn Annie / Augie / Joan / Arthur into a full-on family dynamic, any semblance of hierarchy and professionalism went right out the window.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Interesting twist the target is the bad person......
ReplyDeleteThat right there is exactly the sort of episode you follow a premiere with. Excellent piece of television. The camera work was the highlight for me.

ReplyDeleteI'm really liking this show, the las scene was very good.
ReplyDeleteWait, so she knows/has her father? I thought she didn't, which is why Red was a candidate for being her father,
ReplyDeleteStill need to watch this and Sleepy Hollow! Will you be posting the T25 markets again today?

ReplyDeleteI cant wait to learn more about Parminder Nagras Character! Is she going to be a regular?

ReplyDeleteI forgot to comment about the production values and the camera work, definitely highlights, yes!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I loved that part. I think that was one of the reasons why it reminded me of POI!

ReplyDeleteYeah awesome quote right there!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be too obvious at this point. I have no idea what the actual relationship will be like though....

ReplyDeleteI think the fact that the possibility of him being her father is so obvious that they'll go some other unexpected way, at least I hope so.
ReplyDeleteI think she'll wait for him to go looking for the gun and passaports to make sure they're his

ReplyDeleteLove the show. James Spader is very charismatic and Megan Boone is doing a fine job so far - but can they please get rid of her awful wig!
ReplyDeleteMaybe her dad is someone on the Blacklist? Getting close to her is just part of some long plan?

That would be more interesting but I hope they go with something we haven't even imagined
