  1. Man, I like Roy's moves, while he was chasing Sin and finally, I guess people can move on about Laurel being such a *****.

But, I'm truly wondering what happen to Slade?!?! And Ra's Al Ghul and Black Canary!

    ReplyDelete
  2. Thought it was good. I like when Felicity goes undercover. But this time even Lance went undercover with them. I loved that whole scene. BC made a real good first appearance (and by first i mean actually in half the episode) Ra Al Ghul is asking for her! Man that's exciting!! Glad Laurel woke the hell up, now she can grieve and honor Tommy.

Quentin and Laurel having a Heart to Heart and talking about her guilty about Tommy. The Queen Family scenes were great, Roy got his 1st cast . The ep case was realy good and had a lot of the cast involved Love the whole show

so Laurel still against the arrow

  5. lmao!! That's all that matters huh? lol

  6. Black Canary was amazing. Hope she sticks around.

where did BC get that sonic bloom technology and who is she?

hm what does a batman villain want with the BC?

  9. Great episode!

Finally Laurel feels somewhat guilty towards Tommy's death. Hopefully she won't be such a cold hearted bitch anymore. I am loving Black Canary so far. I really want some more backstory on her soon. Also, nooooo Slade!! That was horrifying.

  10. ...Loved Lance this episode; his interaction and working so closely with Arrow and the Team was nice. It's a shame though we didn't get to see Roy telling Arrow what he found out about BC or Sin's connection, though it isn't much. Overall, it felt like a really good team built episode, which was good.

I am looking forward to finding out what happened to Slade and Shado back on the island.

  11. Great ep that I enjoyed very much: loved the Lance/Arrow team up (thus the name Arrow is born....) but Oliver really needs to get a mask like the Black Canary has as he was right next to Lance several times, or at least wear a ton of camo makeup, the eyepatches aren't enough.... some nice revelations and forwarding of a lot of plots with Laurel coming to terms with Tommy's death and perhaps being a little more lenient with GA from here on out, the Canary being revealed as a runaway from the League of Assassins and Ra's Al Ghul (possible future tie in to Batman? lol) and showing a bit of realism that her sonic scream was due to technology unlike the comics/also revealing that Merlyn was possibly trained by the LOA since he wore the same outfit as the one who tried to off BC. The island mythology forwarded with the capture of Oliver by ??? maybe revealing how he gets tied to the Russian Bratva, and perhaps showing how Slade becomes bad or just has a vendetta against Oliver as he was badly injured trying to rescue Oliver. There were some uneven parts that require much disbelief suspension: you'd think that Det Lance should be able to figure out that Oliver is definitely GA since he already knows Felicity, and saw Dig who he knows is his driver/bodyguard on the Dollmaker takedown, it seems that the DM would be able to move that well without pain after he had an arrow in the middle of his back that he ripped out (causing more damage). Also, it seemed highly unlikely that the ship could fire on the planewreck since it was shown to be a freighter with no deck guns or missles. Good to see Bullet from "The Killing" as BC's sidekick... she looks so much better with more hair and more filled in.

  12. Well, in DC comics, Canary was never a member of the league of assassins. But then again, this is a TV show, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  13. This Black Canary is underwhelming but maybe I just need more information about her. Felt bad for Laurel, it really took a near death experience for her to break down I liked this episode. Wonder how Moira is going to get herself out of this

Lex could be company rival and Bruce Wayne too it will interesting to see three millionaire all together

  17. Great save by Black Canary!

I love how they brought in her sonic scream without making it a super power.

    Wait.. WHAT?
Laurel says her dad should not be working the case and that he should not feel guilty for any deaths caused by the Dollmaker? Misplaced guilt and misguided vendetta advice from Laurel? SERIOUSLY?

    Holy hypocrisy Batman!
Maybe it will end or at least calm down now that she realizes she has been transferring her guilt etc... GodsI hope so!

Okay speaking of beyond my level of belief... or disbelief... Are we seriously supposed to think that Officer Lance cannot tell it is Oliver under the hood despite being mere inches away from his face? I mean it is one thing to be hidden in shadows at a distance, but up close and personal?
Okay...move on, It's a superhero show. I know, but still....

That GIANT leap of believability aside....
Oliver and Lance make a pretty good team filled with skills of all types and a lot of humor!

Another creeptastic villain performance by Michael Eklund!
Can't the guy play a warm lovable teddy-bear of a guy sometime? XD
Typecast is the first thing that comes to mind with Ekllund, but a close second is AWESOME, so I can accept seeing him in the bad guy of the week roles!

Also awesome to see Bex-Taylor Klaus on Arrow!
Sin seems like a nice addition even if not a full-time character and only for a multi-episode arc.

And our first Watchtower appearance in this universe maybe too!

I got a giggle as it was raining superheroes for a minute as both Black Canary and Arrow fell from the sky! XD

Love seeing another dark archer calling BC back to the League of Assassins
I find her a nice counterbalance to the nonlethal Arrow this season.

Other than another week of nausea-inducing Laurel scenes and yet another episode with Laurel the victim, this was another awesome episode! A great villain even if we did not get to explore him too deeply. Also we got more information on Black Canary, Sin and some awesome back story on Slade and Shado.

After seeing Black Canary and Watchtower I started thinking of Smallville... Isabel Rochev reminded me of the Red Queen on Smallville before we knew her identity of course...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I hope this show keeps Slade as his own entity and does not make him Ra's al Ghul!

    ReplyDelete
  19. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F24 October 2013 at 04:50

time for Arrow to put on a mask to cover his eyes

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ya know that kinda bothered me!!! I mean ugh!! I really wanted her to have the sonic boom, but when i saw it was part of technology, i said really?? I was a little disappointed. Still it's better than Smallville's way, so i guess i just have to get used to it. I mean it wasn't THAT terribly, i guess my expectations were too high.

  21. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F24 October 2013 at 05:03

so BC is Sarah Lance? why would she not tell her family she alive and I guess only reason to attack her own sister and the cops so arrow could escape

    ReplyDelete
  22. good episode - the detective-y type feeling, But I am sure that this was only for this episode since Q.Lance needed help and all. but besides that Roy is coming along good, Seems like BC seems to have worked for a group in the past, but does not want to any more, also with the Island boat thing going on, I wonder if BC was on the boat as a Prisoner or Guard? if not there is a mystery to the group(some form of League of Assassins if not that) she belonged to. She wants to help the good that is for certain, but seems like she is at Oliver season 1 kill phase; which I kind of like. Tho really wish they would communicate more BC and Arrow.

I assume the deeper secret that Moria was talking about has something to do with League of Assassins which Merlyn also belonged to and if he was badass that is to say his group included a collective of badass people. I guess in here Ra's al Ghul was a leader in, and seems like BC was also trained like Merlyn in that group.

    ReplyDelete
  23. No, I don't think they're going to do that. It just doesn't make sense. Unless Ra's decided to go WAY deep undercover and join the ASIS there is no reason why the head of the League of Assassins would be on a rescue mission and stuck on an island for years and years.
I would really love to see Slade in the present timeline but I'm getting the feeling that that won't happen for a while. We still have plenty of stuff to deal with on the island before we start branching off to how Slade got off and is now in Starling City (if indeed he is still alive--I think he is).

    ReplyDelete
  24. that was a creppy episode but loved it every minute of it .....loving the black canary already

    ReplyDelete
  25. The police is full of idiots...one would think that they protect the guy who took down a crazy serial killer.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm pretty sure they cast the guy from Homeland as Ra's al Ghul. Navid Negahban was announced as Al-Owal, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is actually Ra's al Ghul.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Arrow hasn't really introduced powers into its universe yet. I don't think it will happen, but it's possible that Laurel does acquire powers around the time she becomes the Black Canary, so we could see a different version of the Canary Cry later.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good to know!
I was worried that CW may want to make an impact with the return of Slade at some point and ignore the comics' mythology.

I'm not a huge comic book fan, but from watching a few movies I know a little about Ra's al Ghul, and as @Arlothia pointed out, it just does not seem to fit with the DCCU mythology.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The R word!!! Ra's Al Ghul!!!!! this show is getting better and better!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I actually enjoy that aspect of Arrow!
I enjoy the concept of normal people becoming heroes by using tech and training - not super powers.

Obviously drugs and tech can come off as super human abilities, but I find it more watchable than genetic mutations and the other more superhuman powers. If they start to bring in too many characters with powers I will lose interest to some degree.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah, but they didn't even say his name correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ra's al Ghul! So, BC is either a former member of the LoA, (which would be non cannon) or a recruit that they want. Damn, imo, this show puts AoS to shame in how to tie a comic universe together. Fanfuckingtasic episode!

    ReplyDelete
  33. So this black canary is Sarah Lance, right??

    ReplyDelete
  34. im guessing she was also on that island, but under ra's al ghuls protection.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Awesome episode!!!!!
Loved detective/officer Lance today. Laurel should be admitted to a psych ward with her mood swings!!! In the pilot she was first angry at Oliver then not, she trusted the Hood than said he was a killer and then back to trusting him and so on - she's a nut job!!!!!!! And the look this season, her eyes are done as if she were ready to go on a catwalk - her makeup is too much!!!!
Felicity as a bait - cool, she's getting more and more into the job - loving it!!! Wonder what is Moira hiding?! Can't wait till next episode!

    ReplyDelete
  36. They pronounce it the same way in Nolan's films. That's continuity I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ah, true! I do like that theory, it brings me comfort. lol hmm so i guess i do have something positive to look forward to when it comes to Laurel. I really am trying to like her, maybe that will be my opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh yeah, I definitely enjoy how Arrow is grounded in reality. I'm just saying there may be multiple versions of the Canary Cry just like there will be multiple identities of the Black Canary. And I wouldn't worry about there being too many superpowers since Berlanti and co said that the Flash's powers will be "treated like an extraordinary event" or something of the sort.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes, they did. BtAS was wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's how it's supposed to be pronounced, Nolan was wrong. Ask any comic book reader.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Different universes and again it's wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  42. No, Nolan is right. Ra's is an ACTUAL Arabic word meaning "[the] Head", which has an ACTUAL correct pronunciation.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have a feeling Quentin already HAS figured out it's Oliver. Or at least has a strong hunch.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes and I think she knows exactly who Oliver is.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I bet in 3-4 years CW will have 3-4 DC comics shows. They see that Marvel is getting into the TV buisness, I'm guessing they want in on it too.

Establishing Ra's al Ghul as character in the Arrow universe is very nice surprise.

Also I see Slade has taking a big step into becoming Deathstroke.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah, I think so too and I think he already found out last season.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I cant be mad at Laurel's blatant hypocrysy cause that was the point, even Quentin gave her the WTF face. The whole thing was kinda in the nose, but it had to be adressed that way to show that everyone knows there's something wrong with Laurel.

    ReplyDelete
  48. "Somewhat"? It was pretty clear that her batshit-insanity all came from that.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Loved the ep, and finally we are seeing more of what's going on on Laurel's messed up head. If they play it right, they can pull off a pretty good story.

For example, I really don't want Laurel to go back into being unicorns and rainbows, I would actually prefer if we keeps seeing her a bit dark and twisty by the events, but completely self aware that she might be loosing it.

If and when and how Sarah passes the BC mantle to her would be the culmination of this tribulation period.

    ReplyDelete
  50. No he's not. The Ray'sh pronunciation is how the character's name is said. The character's creators Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams prefer this one.

    ReplyDelete
  51. But she did date Ra's for a while in the mid 90s (thinking he was a businessman called Ray).

    ReplyDelete
  52. What about the party that Oliver threw at the beginning of last season? I thought this issue had been addressed then, so people wouldn't suspect him of being the vigilante again?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think that being part of the LEAGUE OF ASSASSINS doesn't go well with having a familly, for several reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm feeling like a total dumb right now... How do you know BC is Sarah Lance?

    ReplyDelete
  55. But then again, BC is split between two characters in the show.

    ReplyDelete
  56. They seem to be taking a big influence from Chuck Dixon's work on Birds of Prey. In that she had lost her ability so Oracle developed a technology to recreate it (essentially in the form of grenades).

    ReplyDelete
  57. InvestedInYourFuture24 October 2013 at 10:20

Laurel's so bad at being a hypocrite yet Oliver gets a pass for being a hypocrite for a whole damn S1? Oh please.

    ReplyDelete
  58. InvestedInYourFuture24 October 2013 at 10:21

Still pissed at the plot-device-revival-character stealing Laurel's rightful plotlines and for the show feeling like they HAVE to punish female character for displaying grief (while Oliver is let off the hook for that), but otherwise episode was decent.

    4/5

    ReplyDelete
  59. InvestedInYourFuture24 October 2013 at 10:23

"cold hearted bitch"? I am sorry, I am trying to ignore a sexist slur, while talking to point out that EVERYTHING laurel has ever done came from empathy - the reason she was in the CNRY building was becuase she was RISKING HER LIFE to save others, the reason she was so pissed at oliver for whole season was because he DESTROYED HER TRUST AND EMPATHY TOWARDS HIM.

Laurel Lance has spent every day of her life helping others and trusting others at the cost of getting burned. Well excuse me for being outraged.

    ReplyDelete
  60. InvestedInYourFuture24 October 2013 at 10:25

If spoilers are any indication Laurel won't be loosing her "edgy" any time soon. She might no longer chase after Arrow, but that does not somehow erase the turmoil she feels and apparently she will go to quite dark places with that.

    ReplyDelete
  61. InvestedInYourFuture24 October 2013 at 10:34

The main problem with this canary is that writers are intent on STRIPPING AWAY anything that would be awesome when Laurel would take the role. They even gave this one her own canary cry device. Will there be ANYTHING original left by the time Laurel takes up the name and the role?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Excuse me for pointing out the obvious, but:
Everything Laurel has done on the show so far came because the writers wrote her storyline that way. She' s a fictional character whose role has often been clumsily written -- well, in my humble opinion, anyway. For example, the writers could have written in a dream sequence to show the fans that she was just projecting her own feelings of guilt onto the Arrow. That probably would have spared us quite a bit of fan vitriol on a lot of internet forums. On the other hand, the show runners probably are not unhappy about the controversy they have caused among fans, as it helps keep up interest in the show. Remember the old adage: In show busines, there's no such thing as bad publicity!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I agree with you that Laurel's role has been badly written. On the other hand, how could Laurel, who has spent all of her life in a civilized environment, suddenly turn into a badass, assassin-type hero? Those self-defence classes she took just aren't enough to turn her into a superhero. Otherwise every real-life city would have hundreds of superheros. The whole point of Oliver's island storyline is that it takes years of fighting for survival in an inhuman environment to make someone tough enough and ruthless enough to be a superhero-type fighting machine. They're apparently making Sarah the first BC, because that shipwreck stranded her in similarly hostile environment as it did Oliver, thus motivating her toughness. That's my guess.anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Oliver, Slade, Shado, Roy, Sara, Quentin, and Felicity ALL found themselves in distress role too this episode. Why focus only about Laurel?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Mark P said so at a press conference and revealed their secret.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think we now know the reason for Slade turning evil in the future. He placed himself in danger due to caring for Oliver and will blame Oliver for getting burned.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ah, ok... I thought I missed something on the episode lol Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  68. InvestedInYourFuture24 October 2013 at 11:56

There's a different cannotation between a male character escaping situation in distress and female character having to be rescued, due to gender privileges our society is accustomed to.

That's like arguing "hey but the show killed males too!" when a show like supernatural keeps killing female characters. That does not matter.

Call me back when Oliver was placed in distress role as many times as Laurel was and needed saving, while screaming in tears and then we will talk.

Don't think for a second that I think that Shado being kidnapped every week is in any way okay. either.

    ReplyDelete
  69. InvestedInYourFuture24 October 2013 at 11:59

You ARE pointing the obvious. I am pretty sure everyone who is rational is aware that what happened with Laurel is because this show can't write female characters, at all - they either end up in distress or as love interests.

That does not change the implications of HOW the fandom perceives the writing. And while writers could not write Laurel correctly even if to save their lives, it seems, what ALSO is true is that the sexist parts of fandom are attributing to her the negative traits that the show NEVER ever hinted at.

    ReplyDelete
  70. And here is another misconception. You think Shado was kidnapped now and I think she will be the one rescuing Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Not just female characters. In my opinion, they're generally not good at character motivations. What they're good at is writing action sequences.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Thats pretty likely, and I prefer it this way, last week it seemed like Slade was just some jealous dude because he didnt get the girl, now he at least has a legit reason to be mad at Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  73. It still won't be Oliver's fault but I could understand Slade blaming him.

    ReplyDelete
  74. No, at the end of the episode she realized that she was projecting her own guilt over Tommy on to him.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I wonder if she found out that Oliver is the Arrow and doesn't want anyone to find out?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Ah, i wasn't even thinking about BOP when i saw that....now that makes sense! That i can get on board with. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I was glad she came to terms with what she was feeling, or at least started to also. That does not change how I was struck when she first reacted how she did!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Exactly.
Every character falls victim to their own internal struggles in some cliche manner.

Oliver gets a bit of a pass since his struggle is the foundation for the entire series.

    ReplyDelete
  79. when she saved him in the beginning she stopped for a second when she saw his face.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'll be anxiously waiting for the day Laurel leaves. I have no idea what the writers are trying to do, but they have created a completely worthless character.

Other than her usual pointless scenes, the episode was pretty great.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I noticed two interesting details when I watched the episode again with a friend earlier today.

First was that Oliver placed the Hozen stone on some crates inside the airplane when he and Slade left Shado looking at the skeleton.. I was never sure if the Hozen they found on the Japanese soldiers was the same one he gave to Thea. I know he said he picked it up at the airport, but I thought that was just a story....

If it is the same Hozen stone he needs to go back to the island unless Shado took the stone from the airplane when she was captured....

The second thing I giggled at was when the Dollmaker was preparing Laurel to turn her into his doll.He was pouring the liquid solution into a vial at about head height with no vacuum or way to push the fluid through the tube into Laurel's throat other than gravity. It would not have worked since the tube was so long and sagged below the level of her throat...

Oh well,it looked cool I guess! XD

    ReplyDelete
  82. Am I the only person who thought Roy woke up in a set from Smallville?

I liked the episode. The island story finally started sparking. I loved that after lecturing Oliver on getting attached to people, Slade is chasing Oliver, pel mel, across the island trying to save him from himself. Way to stay detached there Slade. :-) Loved seeing Officer Lance in action and coming to grips with The Arrow (I did chuckle that *he's* the person who gives Oliver his new name.

One thing, that did NOT bother me in this episode but when I saw it a teeny red flag started flapping. That issue was the fact that Black Canary comes onto the scene to serve as a person to do the kills that need to happen but Oliver will no longer do. It's find now because of Oliver's personal and emotional reasons for not killing, but I think, if they were to go that route, they would miss out on some really good story of him struggling to keep his word. But as I said. It's not a problem now and I shouldn't buy trouble. :-) Awesome ep.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I immediately thought of Chloe up in Watchtower when Roy woke up as well...

    ReplyDelete
  84. Aside from Laurel's annoyance I enjoyed the episode especially the proud look on Oliver's face when Lance was impressed with Felicity. Not sure what to feel if the black canary turns out to be Sarah so I will wait until we know for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Possibly my favourite episode of the show so far!! Season 2 has been so great so far and I really feel this show is just getting stronger as it goes along - very excited to see what's to come!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I'm a bit forgetful sometimes... what's the purpose of Laurel again? It keeps slipping my mind

    ReplyDelete
  87. This show is on fire this season. Loved all the storylines. Moira's death penalty thing was harsh and interesting to see her deal with, The Black Canary storyline with Roy was very good too (loved seeing Bullet from The Killing Season 3 again) and the main storyline was awesome too. I loved that Laurel finally came to terms with her guilt. People will hate on Laurel forever if they don't like her I think and it's their right but I like how complex and messed up her character is and I think Katie Cassady really brings it. The scene in which she breaks down with Lance really got me; I think she is the one that gets to me the most - the scene in the finale last year when she realizes Tommy was stuck inside the building was very emotional too. Also, I am loving this newfound partnership between the arrow (cool to have the name finally) and lance, very good stuff. I am really digging the show

    ReplyDelete
  88. I agree with you, the show keeps getting better and better!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Well, I still like Laurel

    ReplyDelete
  90. That is awesome, glad to hear that. I agree with @MeatyStakes, I don't want her to go back to the way she was (I did like her) as I think it is more interesting to watch characters evolve and change with the events of the show

    ReplyDelete
  91. That would be a twist! But I don't think so. I think it will have something to do with her connection with Malcolm.

    ReplyDelete
  92. To be fair, I doubt real world police would protect him either

    ReplyDelete
  93. Wow, I find it surprising that you find the Black Canary underwhelming, I am loving her scenes so far!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I agree with this 100%. I trust the writers that they will take the character of Laurel on an interesting road for her to get there. I don't think it would be realistic for her to have the capabilities that it would take to be The Black Canary at this point. Let her grow first .

    ReplyDelete
  95. I disagree, the end of the episode showed differently.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Agree with this, this show is so good!
