I really hope you're not one of the people with a Nielsen box because this would be really sad since the ratings for Castle kind of depend on people watching live. The early airing in Canada hopefully won't affect the ratings. Since I'm not from the US I don't really get this weird rating sytem but as far as I understood it it's only the people with a Nielsen box who definitely count into the ratings. That being said (and please correct me if I'm wrong) I do think also the ratings by total viewers count and just because people can now watch the episode early I don't think it's ok to just watch something else on Monday. That's the sure fire way to get a show cancelled one day. And sadly I lately read more and more comments from people who say "I've seen Castle already. Will watch something else."
Well, I run a TV ratings website, I write for SpoilerTV about ratings and statistics, and I live on the other side of the world, so my watching Castle a day early has absolutely zero effect on ratings.
It's not my fault that Castle is screened early in Canada, but I'm more than happy to benefit from it. That being said, the first 3 episodes of Castle this season have combined average ratings and audiences that are higher than those first 3 episodes last season, per my recent article here -- http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/10/stats-spotlight-ratings-highlights.html
Ah see, I didn't know this, that's why I asked. :) I'm from Europe and like you I'm perfectly happy to benefit from the early screening in Canada. I was just expressing my hope that people who commented in a similar fashion as you on other sites are also not from the US or even own a Nielsen box. That's all. I've seen the ratings the last 3 weeks and they are still pretty good (maybe except for last weeks drop of 0.3 but that may have different reasons), so I'm not overly worried. I just hope it stays that way since this season is off to an amazing start!!! And I'd hate to see this great show getting cancelled eventually just because of early screenings in Canada. :)
I don't have a Nielsen box so does not make any difference when I watch and also I am 75 so does not matter to anyone when I watch...I guess my age group does not spend money..lol
Maybe I´m wrong, but I think last week´s rating had something to do with Castle being preempted in a big market (Atlanta, I think)...let´s see if this week´s episode does a little better. I´m from Europe too and already benefited from the early screening (and it was a great episode):) But one thing is for sure...if I was in the US and with a Nielsen box, I certainly would be watching live!
It's not that your age group doesn't spend money; it's just that your tastes are more set i.e. 50+ age group is more likely to already have a favorite coffee brand, car company, beer, etc.
You may be correct, but that is NOT me, I am always trying new things, love anything tech related, but I don't watch commercials unless they are funny or have an animal in it..LOVE my hopper that cuts commercials without my help. lol
As do most of my over 50 relatives. We also remember an earlier show called beauty and the beast; which unlike this crap version starred TALENTED actors (Ron Pearlman and Linda Hamilton); and also unlike the current shows miserable harpy, Ms Hamilton was actually beautiful.
No, I'm open to new things; but crap is crap no matter how old it is. Just to ne clear; I find Kreuk neither lovely or talented; (the only quality acting I've seen on CW comes from Supernatual, Arrow and Nikita), and the character she portrays a miserable harpy.
I think it has more to do with that period of your life when you're making the biggest life changes. Trying a few new things doesn't compare to leaving home for the first time, buying your first car, renting your first apartment and struggling over what household items to buy, doing your first taxes, buying your first home, getting married, getting life insurance, having kids, sending kids to school, etc. etc. Those big decisions tend to happen between 18 and 49 and require spending money on tons new things you're not used to buying. You're almost like a blank slate....very easily influenced. I'm sure there are exceptions, but statistically speaking, it doesn't really matter. The advertisers care about overall numbers.
Saw Beauty and the Beast last night in Canada, but watching it again on the CW tonight. It is an awesome roller coaster ride, the usual high-stakes action plus they've amped things up emotionally as well. Love what they're doing with VinCat--it's very intense and edgy, and so thrilling to see Cat have to brave the new beast to find Vin buried under all that supersoldier reprogramming. Very romantic and dangerous at the same time.
You're proving the advertisers who only care about under 49 right. Apparently people your age can't deal with anything new and are already totally set in the way things were decades ago. (And that's being nice, considering you just called the lovely and talented Kristin Kreuk a "miserable harpy" as well as ugly and talentless.)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Doc Martin.
