NCIS - Spring Sweeps Episode to function as Spinoff Pilot

Oct 8, 2013

Goodbye, Tiva. Hello, NOLA! This spring, watch for a two-part sweeps episode of NCIS that will also function as a pilot for NCIS: New Orleans. If the CBS drama is given the go-ahead, it could be on the air as soon as next fall.

  1. Well, that first sentence was unnecessary, TV Guide. Rude.

Wonder if they're actually filming in New Orleans. I think so.

  2. I have serious doubts about another NCIS, we all know how it ended for the RED one!!!!

  3. Maybe they will do it right this time

  4. Different city, different actors, not as slick looking as Red...it will probably get the green light.

  5. How did they get 'NOLA' from NCIS: New Orleans?

  6. NOLA is what some people refer to as New Orleans. (I'm guessing because of New Orleans, Louisiana).

  7. I see. I think CBS is trying not to spread NCiS: NO.

  8. Oooh agents in a different town? How original. At least RED had the whole "mobile" concept

  9. I don't think it's a good idea. Too many in the 'franchise' right now. Too soon after the NCIS: Red pilot failing. CBS needs to come up new ideas for a procedural (if the network wants to create more crime solving shows). I believe that this new NCIS: New Orleans concept should start when the original NCIS ends (although it's a question mark right now of when the show will end).

  10. They ordered a pilot and a full season? That's risky.

  12. Oh right, my bad! So they're gonna film the pilot and air it during the sweeps and see how it's welcomed before giving it a full season. Didn't they do that for the spin off of criminal minds? See how that turned out...

  13. It could be interesting if they were to tie in to Abby's history coming from New Orleans. I would like to see characters that nobody knows already. I'm sure there are agents around the country who don't know each other?

  14. Ouch! That first sentence hurt a little bit! Way too soon and completely unnecessary. However, I am still looking forward to checking this out in the spring sweeps two-parter episode because it at least sounds pretty cool.

  15. If they include Abby (Pauley Perrette) in the show, great. Her character's from Louisiana :)

  16. Different producers. Spinoff on a spinoff on a spinoff. "NOLA" is being co-produced by among others Mark Harmon, spun off the main NCIS show, and not NCIS:LA.

  17. I can't see Abby leaving this NCIS for another, but i guess if the money is right she might....Nah,Abby would never leave Gibbs....

  18. I suspect (and hope i'm wrong), that "NOLA" may be the setup for a possible spinoff/replacement for the main NCIS show. Despite it's popularity, 11 years is a long time. The longer a show goes on, the higher the salary for the actors become. And then there's the fact that Mark Harmon (Gibbs) is involved in the "potential" production of NCIS: "New Orleans" as well as his current production dutieis on NCIS.

  19. That's how a backdoor pilot works.

  20. Could be interesting.

  21. I don't watch NCIS LA, and frankly I don't think I will be watching anymore NCIS. The writing of late has been formulaic and the pay off to a lot of drama has been anti-climatic and disappointing to say the least (even when hyped the hell out in promos... which essentially lie). I wish Producers/Networks would have a plan for the shows for a set number of seasons, or tell the story is has to tell and then let it bow out with grace. They can also have tv movies/mini-series/spin-offs later on down the line and give themselves time to make sure the writing has time to be done well. Episodic tv is dying a death and part of that is because it has to churn out episodes with little time to really have quality writing (there are exceptions to the rule). This is why arc driven (and I know NCIS has a loose arc per season but there's more stand alone eps then not) or serial based shows are so much better which is why so many books are being made into TV series.

It turned out really well for NCIS (whose pilot aired on JAG) and NCIS LA (which aired on NCIS).
The real problem is lack of imagination, even for a procedural. And for CBS.

  24. New Orleans is my hometown. NCIS is one of my favorite shows. Putting those two together...nice, I got to see what this is going to be about other then Abby.

  25. Oh lord not again, after the Team knight rider, I mean Red team face plant you'd think they would learn? LoL at least they missed the name the US navy used as the pilots name on the airplanes converted to RC missile target drones, ensign NOLO (No Living Occupant) and Nolo would get promoted after every mission the missiles missed. The longest survivor was Vice admiral NoLo LOL.
