As NCIS: Los Angeles reaches its 100th episode (despite my technical disagreements), Agent G Callen continues his bloodfeud with the Comescus, one that turns deadly for a mysterious man claiming to be... Callen's father.
Callen's rock climbing skills are substantially worse than his shooting skills, as not only has Hetty previously beaten him, but now he drew with Deeks. Stick to firefights G.
Following Sam and Granger to the house was classic Callen, and his shock horror at seeing the message on the wall summed up how much he wants to find any sort of family. This, once again, led to Hetty trying to stand Callen down. Finding multiple pictures of himself left that plan dead in the water.
Eric's discovery of Vasile Comescu proved to the team why this is happening. I thought the team had killed Vasile in 'Lange, H', but evidently not. The bloodline between the two families most recently appeared in Hawaii Five-0's 'Pa Make Loa', when Callen killed Dracul - Vasile's brother, so you can see why Vasile is angry.
Nice to see the return of Arkady. Callen's resourcefulness to enter his house was impressive, while Arkday's doubt as to whether everyone keeps a gun in their fridge was a brilliant moment. Of course, that meant the gun was cold when he.. hid it. As a recurring character, he is one of the funniest I've seen.
His idiotic plan of shooting the already dead bodies was stupid, especially when Kensi and Deeks dragged him in for questioning. We get to see his friendship with Callen, as he suggests that he doesn't want Callen to die (although the addition of the word 'today' makes me doubt how much). Seeing him stand near Hetty was humorous as to the height difference between them.
Callen's plan of putting clothes into his trunk and pouring gasoline over them seemed strange. As did his plan of trading Anton Comescu for his supposed father. However, it became quite clear after his ploy to take out Vasile and his family. The plan didn't last very long, as Callen became injured, Granger shot and Sam unconcious in an upside down car.
Finally, we come onto the opening scene of the episode. It was very well set-up tbat we were hanging on edge for the entire episode as to what happened in that scene. Sam, as usual, was the hero, while Kensi and Deeks seemed to lag behind a bit. Finally, Callen killed Vasile, a moment which I believe ends the bloodfeud (how many more of these guys are out there if not?)
Reznikov's dying words were odd. Arkady cleared it up quickly, as Hans Schrieber (Reznikov's real name) had been saved by Callen's father, and had decreed to watch over Callen for as long as necessary. The Comescus killed the wrong man.
However, Nikita Alexsandr Reznikov is the name of Callen's father, but whether or not he is alive is still a mystery. Callen seeing the film of he and his sister playing with their father was an incredibly emotional moment for him, and a great end to the episode.
As a hundreth episode, this didn't disappoint. Typically, an NCIS: LA episode featured multiple humorous scenes. This didn't, yet it did find time to embed funny moments into scenes. Despite my hopes that we might finally get some actual answers, I think we'll have to wait until the last episode of the show to reveal them. I was at least hoping we might find out Callen's name. Still, this is probably my third favourite NCIS: LA episode (behind Callen, G in second and Sans Voir in first). 10/10
Thanks Bradley, glad you enjoyed it :)
ReplyDeleteIn case anyone wants clarification on my technical questioning as to this being the 100th:
ReplyDeleteSans Voir was a two hour long episode. Technically, it was two episodes (and in the UK, they aired the parts on seperate weeks). However, I count Sans Voir as one episode, so in my mind, next week's episode should be the 100th.
I am over Callen, I want him to be killed off.
