20th Century Fox is gathering steam on the reboot of Marvel’s Fantastic Four that will be helmed by Chronicle director Josh Trank. It has long been rumored that Fruitvale Station‘s Michael B. Jordan is likely to play the flammable Johnny “Human Torch” Storm, and the names I’m hearing for the flexible genius Reed Richards are Jack O’Connell (he’s playing Lou Zamperini in Angelina Jolie-directed Unbroken), Divergent‘s Miles Teller, and Game Of Thrones‘ Kit Harington. For the role of Sue Storm, the names are The Host’s Saoirse Ronan, 127 Hours‘ Kate Mara and The Wolf Of Wall Street‘s Margot Robbie. No decisions have been made yet, per the studio. Simon Kinberg is doing a rewrite.

ReplyDeleteUh, I'm sorry but Johnny Storm isn't black. No. And before you call me racist, I would hate if they cast a white Bishop for an X-men movie, for example. I know changes come naturally when you adapt comib books to movies, but this is too far of a stretch. I like the actors to resemble the characters from the comics.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a different version of the FF if the actors are going to be that young and the Human Torch is going to be black... don't care too much but I always feel a little bit strange when they change race from the source material.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to note, all of the potential candidates for Sue Storm (sister of Johnny "Human Torch" Storm) are white, while the suggested Johnny is black.
ReplyDeleteI honestly thought the original FF cast was pretty decent, thou I think Jessica Alba might've been miscast. There's noone else i'd picture for The Thing than Michael Chiklis. And Chris Evans has certainly matured in his acting since then. I'd rather see a FF3 with the original cast (with/without Jessica Alba), but get a better director, and better writers.
If they change Johnny Storm's race...shouldn't Sue Storm's race also be changed?

ReplyDeleteman, Disney/Marvel needs to wrangle all their titles to be under one umbrella, or nothing is ever going to improve. We really don't need a FF reboot, they need to let that franchise rest in freaking pieces.

ReplyDeleteHell, some babies have even been born split down the middle black on one side and white on the other. Although, like the black and white twins, it is so rare that if a filmmaker uses that rationale for feasibility with little more than a footnote mentioning it I think it would come off feeling unrealistic and implausible at best, politically correctness in overdrive at worst.
The only miscast in the first franchise was Jessica Alba. The other guys were pretty amazing, especially Michael Chiklis. Why reboot it so early with this terrible (rumoured) cast??

ReplyDeleteIf you're going to make Johnny Storm black, at least go all the way and make Sue Storm black as well. Either way, I'm not really looking forward to this reboot, not that the original ones were that great.

ReplyDeleteDisappointed but not surprised by the comments here, seriously there is nothing wrong with Johnny Storm potentially being black. There is no continuity issue with the other films as its a complete reboot, it is set in modern day where you know families are way more complex and Johnny or Susan could be adopted or step siblings or anything.
ReplyDeleteBoth Marvel and DC are seriously lacking in characters of colour its a major problem film wise (along with the lack of female characters). Something has to to be done to address this, Michael B Jordan is a superb actor see The Wire for proof and if he was cast I would actually be interested in this film.

ReplyDeleteIt's not about the actor, he could be the best actor in the world, it's about them radically changing the appearence of a pre-existing character, and it's not a continuity issue because of the previous movies, but because of the comic books. It would be the same as rebooting the X-Men and picking an Asian Wolverine, or a black Professor Xavier, or a white Blade, or even going so far as to change the gender of a character completely - it's not racism, the character already exists, how hard it is to pick a similar actor to play him/her?

Want a story that sticks to the comic then read the comic great acting is great acting regardless of color. Superman is British so is a majority of Your favorite tv and movie actors get over it. Know the difference between making something better and sticking to a script

You all is up in arms upset because a good actor that's on his way to being great is playing a white guy part. Smh not to mention johnny storm is a comic character. Seems like you all are more interested in fake stories than the ones that really matter
