It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia - 9x07 “The Gang Gets Quarantined” - Episode Preview

If you thought that trapped in a children's playground coil in a pair of tighty-whiteys was the weirdest we’d see Danny DeVito’s Frank this season, think again. This weeks It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia continues season 9's hot streak of outrageously funny episodes as the gang prepares to audition for a slot as “pop supergroup” Boys2Men’s opening act. There are very few things I love more than when the gang sings, and their hilarious rendition of Motownphilly has been stuck in my head since I first screened the episode (Sweet Dee’s harmonies in particular likely won’t leave your brain for a while). After an old man in Frank and Charlie’s building dies, Frank becomes obsessed with escaping the flu that’s sweeping the city, and to make sure that they don’t get sick before the audition the gang agrees to quarantine themselves in the bar with him. Naturally, everyone has wildly different definitions of what that should entail - Mac wants to get “so blacked out this entire time” while Dennis demands rigorous vocal prep (“You think FINE is enough for the Boys-To-The-Men!?!?”). It never ceases to amaze me how constantly ridiculous and awesomely fleshed-out these characters are - six days trapped in the bar and we get talk of becoming “religious, stuttering, army carnies” to gain sympathy at their audition, to Franks escalating obsession with cleanliness leading to an epically cringe-worthy sanitizer-drenched climax.

Lines You'll Love:
Charlie to Mac: "You gotta ease up on talking about dicks, man. Like, it's just too much by this point"
Deandra on how to win: "It's supposed to guilt them into voting for us, you know?" (In a stuttering Southern accent) "This bible is a bible from my daddy who just died in my arms... from throat cancer, from eating some bad pussy."
Mac to Dennis: "Holy shit dude! I think we need to call 911 for you!"
Dennis, about a troubling discovery: "What do you do with any information? You just stuff it deep down inside and you keep an eye on it."

"The Gang Gets Quarantined" airs Wednesday at 10 on FXX
