Hart of Dixie - Episode 3.04 - Help Me Make it Through the Night - Review

This week's Hart of Dixie episode saw a new love interest for Lemon, more weirdness in the Zoe/Wade/Joel triangle, and Dash's epic production of Frankenstein!  The Halloween hijinks were amuck (amuck, amuck) in this hilarious hour.

Lemon got an assist from her fabulously tart and merciless grandma, which allowed the ousted belle to attend the big masquerade ball and mingle with eligible gentlemen.  While Lemon's original date turned out to be a dud, who should she run into but total hottie Peter (One Tree Hill's Robert Buckley...how odd is it seeing OTH alums on other shows?  It's surreal somehow, but fun, to see them playing new characters).  While Lemon and Peter hit it off and shared a magical evening together, his work takes him all over the world and he even announces that it's not in his nature to settle down.  Yet somehow, I think Peter will be back!

The painfully awkward dynamic between Grandma and Brick, and the way that he handed his mother off to other victims at the party, was too funny.

Annabeth, poor thing, got a health scare and had to suffer the indignity of another one of Zoe's schemes to cover up a secret in the most ridiculous way imaginable.  And then after all of that hullaballoo, it turns out that Annabeth is fine...and that Lavon had no plans to propose on their big anniversary date.  I wonder if we'll hear wedding bells for these two down the road.  When Annabeth said that she'd been dreaming of Lavon proposing to her since their first kiss, it was very touching.

Zoe might not have been able to make Lavon and Joel into BFF's, but at least they're on better terms after all that she went through to mend the damage caused by Lavon's dislike of The Cicada's Lament (I'm still laughing about Lavon's Amazon review.  And the title of Joel's novel).

However, it's the Joel/Wade bromance that's really going strong, even as Wade runs around town romancing other men's ladies and avoiding his feelings for Zoe.  Yet one wonders why he is so intent on being friendly to Joel...is this the #1 symptom of his denial, or is he trying to bug Zoe with his closeness to her b.f.?  Or, does he genuinely just like Joel...perhaps it is all of these things rolled into one peculiar situation?

I loved the way George laid out Wade's whole conundrum after the consequences of Wade's lothario ways caught up with him: "I think you're getting with every unavailable women you can because you can't have the one unavailable woman that you want."  I couldn't have put it better myself, George.

  1. I think Wade is going for strategy the more he with boyfriend the more it will bug Zoe and maybe boyfriend will see that Zoe still loves Wade. You can see wade so broke up about Zoe that why he sleeping with though girls. But it really getting to me how much I like Joel I don't what to see him go but I what Zoe and Wade together. (Headache) can't wait for next week.

  2. I just watched it. It's amazing! I love the fact that the men (Lavon, Wade, and Joel) and the girls are connecting (Zoe and AnnaBeth)! I love how we are shown more of AnnaBeth this episode, I love how good she can be at being emotional and we got to see her hopes and dreams. It's an episode with the right amount of humor, touchey feely scenes, and of course, moments of revelation. I don't know, I hope more people watch it so it gets higher ratings.

  3. Ugh, I understand your dilemma! Like I too love Joel, I think he's terrific. But at the same time, I also want Zoe and Wade to be together... :(
