I don't understand how BATB has low ratings. There's a HUGE fan following for the show and most of the Beasties watch it either online or buy it through iTunes/ Amazon. Many watch it on their home TVs as much as possible. I know they premiere the show in Canada a day before the Americans so that means illegal streaming is up for grabs (unfortunately) but still, the worldwide fan following is extremely large. These ratings exclude the online viewings and the DVR viewings as well as the purchases. I know for a fact CW doesn't just rely on these ratings so I believe BATB will be successful.
It doesn't matter how many people watch the show worldwide. It has to do with how many people who have Nielsen boxes watch the show...Obviously not many.
Its shocking these figures for BatB.People are just not prepared to give it a second chance and that is really a shame because all the changes have been positives the reviews are loads better, the shows is under complete new direction but it seems that this isnt enough for many,we need promtion explaining all the changes, fingers crossed CW do take a look at how well the show does with online views and streaming with i-tunes passes etc, Dont give up Beasties keep the support solid and keep ROOARING #BatB
Well...that's lame then. I've never even heard of a Nielsen box so it's obvious the device isn't advertized very well. People can believe what they want but BATB is a lot better show than what many viewers credit it for.
How I Met Your Mother, The Voice, Bones and Dancing with the Stars were each adjusted up a tenth while Beauty and the Beast was adjusted down three tenths, Hart Of Dixie and Hostages were adjusted down two tenths, and 2 Broke Girls and Mom
Lol a nielson box isnt just something you can go get at best buy. Also, I havent watched the show but i only hear bad things about it and obviously no one is watching
I keep seeing everywhere that BATB is a 'worldwide hit' or whatever. Where has this idea come from? I'm from the UK and I know it's certainly not a hit here.
Its not lame. This we where we get our ratings from,it keeps tabs,a record if you will of what we watch. One cannot buy this,it is not for sale you must be invited by the company to participate
I am not saying its perfect, and they are starting to take other things into consideration. One thing for sure no matter how popular it happens to be the networks will never keep a show on if its not making money,or just because it happens to be popular outside of the U.S...
In the UK it is shown on Watch, who watches watch? I live in the Uk but watch it online, not on watch. it is a big hit in countries such as brazil and spain and some asian countries too - there it is shown in mainstream channels I understand
No, it only comes on in Canada on Sundays (which doesn't count for ratings purposes), and illegal downloads make up such an insignificant fraction, it's statistically meaningless.
I feel sorry for fans of BatB (if not the network), as a Nikita fan I know all too well the feeling of seeing your show tank in the ratings - and some people, in places like TVbtN, making fun of it for that. If its numbers stay this way, I don't see it lasting past this season (although there's next to no chance of The CW pulling it from the schedule - it doesn't have backup plans). It *might* move to Friday or be cut to 13 episodes like Emily Owens. I just hope for the fans' sake that they have the decency to inform the show's writers long enough in advance so they can write a proper ending, unlike what they did to 90210. Screw waiting for the overseas numbers, which arrive when the season finale is half-written. I love making pretend schedules, so. This is what I would do if my current prediction comes true, which would mean: BatB doesn't improve, Reign drops considerably and TTP and The Originals continue to do well.
Monday 8 - Star-Crossed 9 - HoD (new time)
Tuesday (unchanged) 8 - Originals 9 - SPN
Wednesday (unchanged) 8 - Arrow 9 - TTP
Thursday
8 - The 100 (premiere) 9 - TVD (new time)
Friday (after Nikita's short final run) 8 - BatB (new day and time) 9 - Reign (new day and time)
Explanations: I've long felt that The CW should start premiering more shows in 8pm slots instead of 9pm. Using the network's own programming as a lead-in for a freshman show is a bad idea that almost never works, since the affiliates' lead-ins are usually higher-rated. As such, after moving BatB and Reign to Friday because of their lacking performance, I would premiere Star-Crossed and The 100 in 8pm slots behind HoD and TVD, respectively. HoD is in its third season, so I don't think the network will care that much if it loses viewers because of the move - they just want to drag that one to syndication. S-C (although I think it looks terrible and will flop) is a new show that needs a fighting chance, so giving it the better slot is just common sense. And the pairing of 2 romantic shows could work. As for Thursday - it's time for The CW to abandon the idea of TVD as a lead-in. It's not doing any favors to the shows that premiere after it. Instead, put the new show at 8 with the affiliates' lead-in. A veteran, succesful show like TVD shouldn't lose viewers because of a timeslot change.
The fact remains that a lot of fans do NOT watch LIVE through no choice of theirs. This number obviously is not taken into consideration, and you don't need rocket science for this.....it is simply not realistic.
I hope you're watching it live on Monday as well cause if others do this, then it's not us international fans who are not included in these rating figures.
Exactly, you haven.t watched the show. How can you judge the book by its 'cover'? At least watch se01 and the rest...then you CAN judge for yourself...whichever way, but you would then have your OWN opinion and not a prejudiced one.
I have actually watched more than half of the first season of Beauty and the Beast and I don't hate the show or anything (I just don't find it compelling enough to continue to watch when there is so much to watch). But the idea that people can watch all shows to make informed opinions is ludicrous. Speaking from someone who watches A LOT of TV, unless you don't work and don't have any sort of life, there is no time to do such thing rationally. Also, there is no need to watch a show to comment on its ratings performance.
As I mentioned earlier, everyone has a right to his OWN opinion. So if you watched more than half and did not find it compelling enough, it's your right and I agree. However, I found the rest of your comment confusing. To whom are you referring "from someone who watches A LOT of TV..." - the general public? As for the last sentence regarding ratings performance, I find this to be conflicting with the following: http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/10/most-popular-shows-on-spoilertv-we-25th.html (BatB, among the Top 10)
Pity one lets prejudice reign. I hear bad things and good things but I prefer to have my own opinion. But then everyone' s different. Have a good weekend.
I was just making a point that it is not possible for the majority of the population to give all shows a shot of more than 1/2 episodes and even that proves difficult.
As for your link, popularity on spoiler tv has zero to do with the ratings. It's a biased sample statistically speaking.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Really suprised HIMYM is top of the night, is it usually?
ReplyDeleteI don't watch Beauty and the Beast but its numbers make me sad :(
ReplyDeleteits gotta be one of the lowest rated shows ever
ReplyDeleteBones :)
ReplyDeleteOh yay! Bones went up!
ReplyDeleteOh,wow just noticed Beauty....

ReplyDeletewell just watch the first episodes of season 2 on the cw - u never know, you may actually like it :)
ReplyDeleteWe are beasties!!! Hear us ROAR!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh dang, that sucks for BATB...O_o
ReplyDeleteCould it affect the rating for BATB that it can be watched on sundays also? I for one can't wait until monday when it's already online the day before.
ReplyDeleteNo, it only comes on in Canada on Sundays (which doesn't count for ratings purposes), and illegal downloads make up such an insignificant fraction, it's statistically meaningless.
ReplyDeleteHow I Met Your Mother is usually top in 18-49, when it comes to fiction ( excluding reality tv shows)
ReplyDeleteThen, you know from a wrong fact.
ReplyDeleteIt's a statistical tool. Statistics work with representative samples. Apart of some margin of error, it is a sound proof approach.
ReplyDeleteThis year, yes. 2 Broke Girls has taken a nose dive whereas the momentum of HIMYM being in its final season has kept it performing really well!

totally agree!

ReplyDeleteYes, but it's the same for ALL shows. The ratings are all relative. If a show has terrible ratings, it has terrible ratings.
ReplyDeleteNo amount of excuses can disguise that.
I hope you're watching it live on Monday as well cause if others do this, then it's not us international fans who are not included in these rating figures.
ReplyDeleteUnless they have a Nielsen box, it does not matter if they watch it live or not :)
ReplyDeleteOnly Nielsen Families are used to generate the sampling that then generates the ratings.
GOOD DAY.
ReplyDeleteSome people don't understand, others don't want to understand, some just don't want to hear it...
ReplyDeleteThe fact remains that no matter how many people watch live,if the Nielsen families don't watch this show the ratings will not go up.

That it's so true! :(
ReplyDeleteI watch the show but is not one of my favorites but it's sad that the numbers are so low...
