CBS is hoping to turn the Anne Rice novel Angel Time into a possible series.
The network has ordered a drama script from Liz Garcia and Joshua Harto (Memphis Beat) that’s based on Rice’s 2009 novel. The book, which was the first in the author’s Songs of the Seraphim series, tells the story of an assassin with a tragic past who finds himself on a road to redemption. The story takes place at the historic Mission Inn in Riverside, CA.
Rice will serve an executive producer on the project, as well as Sarah Timberman (Masters of Sex) and Carl Beverly.
Joe Carnahan (The A-Team) is also listed as an exec producer, and will direct the pilot (should CBS decide to order one).

That's what has me worried. CBS absolutely sucks ass when it comes to sci-fi.
ReplyDeleteMaybe CBS shouldn't bother...they should stick to crime procedural. That's all they're good at anyways. They should forever stick in their bubble.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Whenever they do sci-fi/fantasy I end up hating it or just being apathetic. Two exceptions that I can think of...American Gothic all the way back in 1995, which CBS absolutely ruined with scheduling, and aired the episodes (of a mostly serialized show) all out of order. Then Threshold in 2005, which of course they turned into an alien version of CSI by episode three. It was still pretty good and then by episode 8 or 9 the story started getting more serialized and then it was canceled the next day, but I love the remaining episodes.
ReplyDeleteAnd then they canceled Medium after one year of having it. While I mostly prefer serialized dramas Medium was a definitely an exception. And Ghost Whisperer was very CBS-ified, and everytime it started to develop a mythology it would just vanish, and I can't help but think it was at the request of CBS. And Under the Dome started out mediocre and then I couldn't even watch it after I got halfway through the third episode.
Needless to say I will approach any future CBS genre show with a massive amount of caution, I'd rather enjoy a few episodes of a great FOX or ABC show and have it quickly canceled than sit through the mediocrity that is 85% of CBS's schedule.
I was being a tad sarcastic with my reply :).
ReplyDeleteIf CBS kept pumping out ONLY procedurals, they would get criticized for it from the critics, fans, etc even when it gets good ratings.
It's been known that the CBS audience tends to shun anything (with a few exceptions) anything "different" from CBS.
The bubble comment made me think you probably were...but I have issues with CBS, ha. But until they get new execs I just can't get excited over any sci-fi/genre show they do. It's just that they seem to be able to market traditional shows pretty well but when it comes to high concept they don't really know what to do with it, IMO.
